Best Lawn Mower Snow Blower Combo Review

Pairing a riding lawn mower with a snow blower attachment gives you the ultimate four-season versatility you need to keep your yard tidy.

These riding lawn mower snow blower combos are generally very easy to install on your lawn mower, allowing you to stay prepared for anything – even if it’s 18 inches of snow.

Best Overall: NorTrac BE-SBS50G 3-Stage. Snow Blower – 50″ Intake

Width is the name of the game with this attachment!

Having a clearing width of 50 inches, the NorTrac BE-SBS60G blower can clear a bunch of snow off your driveway every time it passes by.

It also has a reasonable throwing distance of 25 feet, which gives you enough room to work with. The chute deflector of this device is impressive as it can be adjusted into five different positions.

The manual-crank chute also rotates as much as 340°, so you can throw the snow at your desired angle. The auger is bolt-protected and runs a chain-driven shear.

This snow blower is made of steel, the most durable material you can use to combat snow.

The only real downside to this (aside from the steep price) is its weight of 612 pounds. It will take more than one person to attach this lawn mower snow blower combo to your lawn mower.

Best Value: Arnold MTD Genuine Parts 2-Stage Snow Thrower

One thing right off the bat that will set you at ease with this snow thrower; it is compatible with newer models of the Troy Bilt Super Bronco XP riding lawn mower. This can be a big deal if you don’t want to play any guessing games to determine which snow blower fits which lawn mower.

You will also appreciate the high-volume accelerator of this device. It wastes no time chopping up frost and quickly removes as much as 18 inches of snow in one go!

This snow thrower may not be the most visually appealing, but it is highly productive and something I can see myself using.

Most Efficient: NorTrac BE-SBS60G 3-Pt. Snow Blower – 60″ Intake

If you liked NorTrac’s 50-inch wide lawn mower snow blower combo, then you will love this attachment!

How about 10 inches wider for snow intake? The clearing width of 60 inches makes this snow blower the most productive option on this list. It also has a better throwing distance than the 50-inch wide option, as it can throw snow as far as 40 feet.

This larger version of NorTrac’s 3-part snow blower attachment for lawn mowers also has a 5-position adjustable chute deflector to help guide the snow. You can also rotate the manual-crank chute 340° to throw the snow in the angles of your liking.

The main problem you may have with a snow blower this large is that you will need a lawn mower that will accommodate its size. A serviceable option to pair this snow blower with would be the Husqvarna 54″ 24 HP zero-turn riding mower. However, be prepared to save up some money to pay for it.

Most Durable: John Deere 44-inch Snow Blower for 100 Series Tractors

If you are in need of big snow removal, then this best lawn mower snow blower combo can answer the call!

No matter the snow condition, this snow blower works well for removing snow from your driveway. Though it is best suited for snow removal around recreational and industrial parks, you should have an easy time getting a feel for this device.

This is a two-stage blower, which means that the low-speed auger of the blower accumulates the crusted material as it moves the snow toward the second stage. Single-stage snow blowers don’t have this feature.

This snow blower has a rear ballast consisting of two 42-pound Quik-Tatch weights, which are recommended for additional traction. John Deere is a recognizable brand, so don’t worry about anything fishy going on with this product!

Most Versatile: Husqvarna Two-Stage Lawn Tractor Mounted Snow Thrower (Manual Lift)

This model is a good and well-rounded riding lawn mower snow blower combo. If you love Husqvarna products and own a riding mower, this snow thrower is what you need. It has a spacious clearance intake of 42 x 20 inches, which means it will pick up a good amount of snow.

After attaching the mounting and pulley frame brackets, you can easily remove the snow thrower with standard tools. It also has a replaceable wear plate and skid shoes.

One great thing about this snow blower attachment for lawn mowers is the 2-year warranty it has. Gotta love those warranty plans!

Best Lawn Mower Snow Blower Buyer’s Guide

Using your lawn mower along with a snow blower attachment for the winter may sound like a daunting task.

However, if you know what to look for, you will find the right combination. You are looking for the snow blower combo that not only works with your riding lawn mower but also makes you feel comfortable.

Before purchasing a riding lawn mower with a snow blower attachment, here are some factors to consider.

Why Do You Need a Snow Blower?

A snow blower is a device that the user guides from behind. Its mechanics are very basic. It almost always has a rotating blade, shaped like a corkscrew, that lifts, chops, and throws away snow.

If you live somewhere where it snows often and you can’t get onto the road, manually shoveling your driveway can be a huge setback. Having a snow blower will save you time and money.

What Is the Difference Between a 1-Stage vs 2-Stage vs 3-Stage Snow Blower?

The design is the main difference between a 1-stage, 2-stage, and 3-stage snow blower. As you might have guessed, a 3-stage snow blower offers more power and can clear heavier snow than a 1-stage or 2-stage snow blower.

Here are the basic differences between single-stage, 2-stage, and 3-stage snow blowers:

Single-Stage Snow Blowers 2-Stage Snow Blowers 2-Stage Snow Blowers
A single-stage snow blower only has one auger. The auger sucks up the snow and then discharges it. A two-stage snow blower has an auger and an impeller. The auger will suck up snow, and the impeller throws it away from the machine. Three-stage blowers have an auger, an impeller, and an accelerator auger.
Single-stage snow blowers only clear 16 to 20 inches of snow. Two-stage snow blowers can clear more than 20 inches of snow. Three-stage snow blowers can clear more than 20 inches of snow faster than a two-stage blower.

Two-stage snow blowers are usually self-propelled and free up one of your hands. They perform at their best when working on an incline. However, they can clear deep snow as well as a 3-stage blower. They are just slower than 3-stage models.

3-stage snow blowers can clear snow and ice 50% faster than two-stage snow blowers because of the additional impeller. The additional auger in a three-stage snow blower is called an accelerator auger, specifically designed to speed up the snow throwing process.

If you live in an area that sees very heavy snowfall that can easily form compacted ice, then getting a 3-stage snow blower is a wise choice. The extra augers break the ice, and the impellers finish the job.

What’s The Best Lawn Mower Snow Blower Combo For a Long, Wide Driveway?

You should absolutely get a snow blower if you have a long or wide driveway because you will save time and money. Instead of doing back-breaking work with a snow shovel for hours, a snow blower can scale back the amount of work you need to do.

The best snow blower attachment for lawn mowers for people with long or wide driveways is the NorTrac 3-Pt. Snow Blower – 60in.W Intake since it is a three-stage blower with a very generous 60-inch intake area.

Should I Have a Gas Mower or an Electric Mower for My Snow Blower?

You’ll find that most lawn mower snow blower combo products are made for gas mowers. This is because you’ll see more power overall with a gas mower, and with heavy snow, you’ll need all the power you can get.

All the lawn mower snow blower attachments in our review are for gas lawn mowers. However, there are electric snow blowers you can use that don’t need a tractor, and you can see some of the best ones in our review best electric snow shovels.

Should Horsepower Be a Concern?

Horsepower should be a top concern if you want to be productive in the snow. When you pair a riding lawn mower with a snow blower attachment, your mower will need to be able to push through that snow without giving in. So, the more powerful your engine, the bigger your snow blower can be.

Most lawn tractor snow blower combinations list the ideal horsepower for the snowblower to work correctly. So, just read the label before settling on a specific model.

You should also consider the auger width of a snow blower attachment, how much you can adjust the chute and deflector, and the overall durability of the snow blower’s materials.

What Type of Tires Do You Need for Snow Throwing?

For starters, always think about traction!

Some lawn mower tires, unfortunately, have poor treads, which are vulnerable to skidding. If you have tires you know won’t perform well in the snow, replace them for the winter season as soon as possible. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Consider getting snow chains and rear ballast weights, too. Read up on the best lawn mower snow blower combo of your choice – many manufacturers recommend tires, chains, and weight ballast options.

Here are some tire chains to show you an example:

The Greenworks 2600502 snow thrower boasts numerous positive reviews and is a popular budget-friendly choice. I have two friends who have been using it for more than one season to keep their lawns nice and clean during the winter, and they don’t regret getting it, to say the least.

2600502 is an electric corded machine that’s a breeze to start. It also comes with an effective 180-degree directional chute, which might exceed your expectations given the model’s price and makes the process easily manageable.

This model by Greenworks shows great performance provided that the area to process and the weather conditions are up to moderate. The 120 Volt, 13 Amp motor is just 2 Amps away from the US regulatory maximum and allows snow blowing for 10 feet at best, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you have a huge property to clean. Another model by Greenworks, 2600402 looks very much like 2600502 on steroids. While much pricier than its affordable counterpart, it is still popular and enjoys positive feedback from many users. This Pro machine stands out at once due to being a cordless model powered by a Li-ion system.

A rechargeable 2.0 Ah battery will last for up to 45 minutes, which is mostly sufficient for small to medium areas when the weather is really bad. Please mind that you won’t be able to fit a 4.0Ah battery because the lid won’t close, although there is a 4.0Ah modification of this model. The battery and charger are included. This spares you a lot of hassle with the cord but might result in the need to remove the battery and let it warm up for about 10 days on colder days before you can start.

Powered by a quiet brushless 80-Volt motor, the unit is easy to operate and hardly requires any maintenance. It’s suitable for use at any time of the day because it comes with a bright LED headlight for improved nighttime visibility. Complete with a sturdy polyethylene plastic auger, this machine can clear up to 10 inches of snow over a width of 20 inches and does so in fewer passes than 2600502. Compacted snow is not a problem unless it is extremely thick.

The adjustable 180-degree chute ensures the cleanliness of the operation. With a weight of just 33 pounds, the unit is lightweight and easy to maneuver and will fit most body types. Given the ease of use, this might be a viable solution for people who experience mobility issues or back pain.

Lawn Tractor for Snow Removal Buyer’s Guide

When choosing the lawn tractor for your garden, there are some points you need to keep in mind. The main five are the fuel consumption, compatibility of details, the horsepower generated, the adjustable deflector angle, and the tires.

Some of the factors to consider about the top-rated lawn tractors include fuel usage. Electric tractors and attachments are more efficient than gas-powered machines in regard to maintenance and fuel cost.

Also, the best lawn tractors should be compatible with most attachments. Without compatibility properties, it is difficult to find the proper attachments on tractors. Thus, look for the lawn tractors with a plow as they are always customized for snow removal tasks.

best, lawn, mower, snow

The horsepower generated by a tractor should be a top concern as this determines the productivity of the machine. When thinking of which lawn tractors snow plow to go for, consider the auger width, the adjustability of the chute and deflector, and the durability of the equipment.

The Ability to Adjust the Deflector Angle

Good snow removing machine should allow the operator to determine the direction in which to throw chopped snow and the distance of throw. The auger width determines the area cover and the amount of snow that can be cleared at a go. The greater the auger width is, the bigger is the area that can be cleared at a time.

Also, the tires should be able to provide solid traction even when working on an intensively snow-covered lawn. Some tires have poor treads, which are susceptible to skidding. Also, good equipment should be easy to use and simple to manage. It shouldn’t be a rigorous task to use a snow thrower attachment.

Keeping in mind these five factors, you are already prepared for choosing the best lawn tractor and the most useful snow removal attachment for your garden. Now, let’s move on to the equipment I have personally used for snow removal in my lawn that I can profoundly recommend to any gardener and householder.

Which Is Your Preferred Lawn Tractor for Snow Removal?

Now that I’ve reviewed you the most reliable tractors and snow blowers, choosing the snow removal equipment shouldn’t be a big deal for you. Efficiency is always the top priority when it comes to selecting machines for clearing lawns and gardens. Also, the best lawn tractor for snow plowing should have a long service span, owing to the investment put in the purchase.

However, the featured products in this review are the best lawn tractor for the money, and any model would be a great addition to your outdoor and gardening equipment. If you are planning to work past daytime, be sure to go for equipment with headlights to facilitate enhanced visibility.

There are other essential factors to consider, including the adjustability of the deflector angle and horsepower generated, that I’ve already mentioned at the beginning of this article. These are crucial factors when it comes to performance preference for the operator as one can determine the distance of throw and the direction.

Can a Lawn Tractor Pull a Plow?

Plows – or ploughs – are among the most revolutionary tools of all times, and they’ve changed how we develop the land. From large fields to small plots of land, plowing the soil can yield endless benefits. And if you already have a lawn tractor, you might be wondering whether you can attach a plow to it and turn your plot into more fertile land.

A lawn tractor will not pull a plow well because of its lightweight frame, 2WD, and weaker connection points. A lawn tractor will have 15-25HP and is built for mowing grass, while the minimum power needed to pull a plow is 20-30HP. Garden or row-crop tractors are better for plowing.

If you have a plot of land, it’s only normal to look into the tools that can help you take care of it and obtain the best results. While lawn tractors are excellent for mowing the lawn, they’re not all suitable for plowing – here’s all you need to know!

Can You Pull a Plow With a Lawn Tractor?

If you have a garden or a lawn, you need to have a lawn tractor. It can help you keep your landscape in check and effortlessly cut the grass when preparing for an excellent season.

However, if you’re thinking of turning a part of your land into farmable land, you might wish to use your lawn tractor to pull a plow. Of course, investing in a new tractor can be an extremely costly choice, so it’s worth looking into what you can do with your tractor before investing in a new tool.

However, before pulling a plow with a lawn tractor, it’s crucial to understand what sets this machine apart from others.

Lawn tractors – also called yard tractors – are machines designed to cut grass. They’re lightweight enough to be easily picked up. Their construction is steel and highly streamlined, making the tractor not sturdy enough to pull a plow.

Additionally, lawn tractors only yield an average horsepower of 15-25HP. Smaller models may have only 1-10HP, and larger, newer models can reach the threshold of 30HP. While this might be enough to pull a small plow, the lawn tractor’s construction might make it uncomfortable or unsafe to pull.

How Much Horsepower Does It Take To Pull a Plow?

On average, the minimum horsepower needed to pull a plow is 20-25HP per bottom. The most potent lawn tractors might be able to achieve these power standards and pull a 1-bottom plow.

However, horsepower isn’t the only factor to consider to learn whether your tractor can pull a plow. Other elements to keep in mind include:

  • 4WD vs. 2WD (most lawn tractors are 2WD)
  • Engine type – whether it runs on gas or diesel
  • The plow size
  • The condition of the soil

Lawn Tractor: Features and Characteristics

Trying to pull a plow with your lawn tractor can cause you to damage your garden tool and fail to work the land properly. Therefore, it’s essential to understand the characteristics that make a tractor able to pull a plow – and why a lawn tractor might not be the most suitable choice!

Here’s a rundown of the characteristics that might make a row crop or garden tractor a better choice for your project!

A Lightweight Construction and Frame

If you try to pick up a lawn tractor from the back and lift it off the ground, chances are you can do so. Lawn tractors, which are also called yard tractors and riding lawn mowers, are designed for cutting your lawn’s grass.

Because of this scope, they’re simple to drive and maneuver – and lightweight! Thanks to their steel frames and minimal components, they won’t weigh much more than 300-600 pounds (135-270 kg).

Thanks to this feature, they’re incredibly versatile and move seamlessly across a flat field. However, if you’re looking to pull a plow, their light frame can become an obstacle. That’s because a plow, depending on size and bottoms, can weigh much more than 650-800 pounds (300-385 kg).

The plow’s weight, coupled with the lawn tractor’s reduced horsepower, can make it impossible for you to pull such heavy machinery.

Steel Connection Points

Another factor to look into before attaching a plow to your tractor is its connection points. You’re likely to find a hoop designed to attach implements at the rear of the tractor.

However, when looking at a lawn tractor’s connection point, it’s immediately clear that these aren’t sturdy enough to pull a plow. A lawn tractor’s connection point is usually made of steel – even if created with a sturdier design.

In turn, this kind of connection system is more suitable for attachments on wheels rather than heavy-duty plows. Attaching a plow to a yard tractor might cause you to damage the connection point.

Horsepower and Scope

The scope of a lawn tractor is to mow the grass. For this aim, it’s one of the most versatile and powerful machines out there. Thanks to its hydrostatic transmission and lightweight body, you can drive your riding lawn mower across any garden without much training.

Manufacturers have developed yard tractors to meet all gardeners’ needs, including adding towing power to attach a wheelbarrow on wheels.

At the same time, these tools might not be suitable for pulling a plow because of these factors:

  • They offer a limited horsepower that’s usually below 20-25HP.
  • They don’t have proper braking systems in place to safely tow a plow downhill.
  • On wet or muddy terrains, it can be impossible for your yard tractor to pull a plow.
  • While higher torque standards are available, most riding lawn mowers don’t have enough to pull a plow.

Generally, the average towing power of a yard tractor is 250-580 lbs (113-263 kg), which is a fraction of what’s needed to pull a plow.

Garden Tractor vs. Lawn Tractor

While they’re often put in the same category, garden tractors are incredibly different from lawn tractors. As we’ve seen, a lawn tractor is specially designed for cutting grass and towing green waste. While garden tractors have a similar name, they might be a more suitable choice for pulling a plow.

You can find a comprehensive overview of the differences between the two – or read on in the video below:

  • potent than yard tractors, with 25-35HP on average
  • They’re much heavier
  • They’re constructed in a heavy-duty metal
  • They boast cast-iron axles and connection points
  • They’re more suitable for heavy-duty attachments such as plows
  • They’re ideal for sloped or hilly terrains

Ultimately, garden tractors are more suitable than yard tractors or riding lawn mowers to pull a plow – thanks to their build and torque power. However, other types of tractors might be even more suitable for plowing, such as row-crop tractors.

These tractors are suitable for leveling, harrowing, and seed control tasks. While they’re also more expensive, they can be a better choice than lawn tractors if you have a large land plot that needs caring for regularly. You can also opt to rent one of these tractors from a nearby farmer or cooperative.

A lawn tractor is a tool designed to take care of smaller land plots and cut the grass. They’re more affordable than garden tractors, and they yield 15-25HP. While they’re powerful machines for their scope, they might not be suitable for pulling a plow efficiently.

And, due to their lightweight frame and weak connection point, you might accidentally damage your lawn tractor by trying to pull a plow with it. suitable alternatives include garden tractors and row crops tractors.

Is a Atv with a plow better than i garden tractor with a plow

im not sure on wat to get yet either a atv with a plow or a Husqvarna garden tractor with a 48in snow plow and a cab wat do u thinks btter and wat would you get?

Well it depends. Is the tractor 4×4. If not go with the atv. 4×4 are so much nicer no chains to deal with no issues of digging up drives. Also you can have fun with atvs. But if you buy an atv buy a suzuki or an arctic cat I swear you will never regret it. If you have any questions let me know.

thank you for your help nice set up you have there. i have a side street thats pretty big not too big but i would need to plow that with a atv or a tractor but i dont know if it could handle it i would keep up with the snow and have 2 machines running the whole storm but im not sure if a atv or garden tractor is capable of handling it

Well before my 500 ac. I had a 2000 arctic cat 400 2×4 with a 45″ plow. it had tire chains. It plowed 3 foot of snow last year during the valentines day snow storm no problem. Now i have a 2000 arctic cat 500 4×4 auto and it pushes like you cant believe. Trust me you could handle an atv. Just get an automatic that is around 400-500cc and you should good just get a4x4. I run 3 machines during a snow storm all by myself. a kubota b6000 bucket loader 4×4. a 2000 arctic cat 500 54″ plow. and a 2003 FORD f250 with 8ft fisher mm2. If you have anymore questions let me know because I was once new to plowing with an atv too back in 2003. only plowed with a truck.
