Bobcat Quickcat Stand On Mower Review

The Bobcat QuickCat 4000 stand on mower has been out for a couple of years now. We have been able to demo this mower a few times since its release. It is Bobcat’s first jump into the stand on mower market, outside of a few upgrades.

At first glance, it looked like a decent stand on mower. Nothing too flashy but definitely a machine that is capable of competing with some of the leading competitor brands.

There are definitely a few things I would like to see changed on this mower but nothing major. Overall, it is a durable stand on mower that may be the right option for you!

The mower is powered by different size Kawasaki FX series engines. They are available in four different sizes depending on the deck size. The engines have a displacement of either 603 cc or 726 cc. These engines are proven within the industry and used on many other brands.

The larger decks on this stand on mower (48″ – 61″) are equipped with the Hydro-Gear ZT3400 transaxles. These are fairly common in the industry and do a good job.

The 36″ model has the ZT3100 transaxles. These are a step down from the from the ZT3400’s but will do just fine with the small frame and less weight.

Cut Quality

The Dura-Deck heavy duty cutting system is patented and proven. It comes in four different sizes as mentioned above. They are 36, 48, 52 and 61 inches.

The cutting deck is fully equipped to cut long, tall, and wet grass with ease. The cast-iron spindle assemblies on the decks ensure durability and longevity for many years.

Overall, you will find the cut quality quite impressive. This mower proved to cut well each time we demoed one.

You will have quite a few positive things to talk about as far as durability is concerned. It comes with 60 years of engineering experience and could be considered as one of the toughest and reliable mowers in its class.

We ran this mower through some tough stuff and it held up just fine. We have also talked with several lawn care companies that rave about the overall durability of this stand on.

They seem to be built very well and hold up for a long time. The design of the mower definitely helps with the longevity of this machine.

This definitely isn’t the most comfortable stand on mower by any stretch of the imagination. I’d say it is a decent ride quality.

The platform is vibration-dampened. I’m not sure exactly what this does as you can still feel a lot of the bumps while riding. Maybe it does a little, but nothing like some of the other stand on mowers with suspension platforms.

It also has a flip-up operator platform. This allows the users to walk if and when necessary. This is kind of a controversial topic when it comes to stand ons. Some people love being able to fold the platform up and others don’t see a need for it.

I’d say having a flip-up platform is at least convenient for when you need it. But I’d take a more comfortable platform that doesn’t fold up any day. The plus side is you can truly take this mower about anywhere you could take a commercial walk behind mower.

Controls Design

This is my one main problem with this mower… the overall dashboard and controls and far from superior in my opinion.

First, I’m not a fan of having the operator sensor in the handle bars. This is something they have to do if they have a flip on flatform design. I understand it’s the only way to be able to walk behind the mower with the blades engaged. However, it just isn’t comfortable to me and especially not on rough terrain.

Second, I don’t like where the height of cut adjustment is located. I almost have to get off the mower in order to change the height of cut which isn’t convenient.

Lastly, and this may be picky, but I wish there were a foot deck adjustment like there is on the Gravely Pro Stance. This would probably be tough to implement on this design since the platform is moreover the wheelbase but it would still be nice if it could be done.

These will all depend on personal preference but I wasn’t really a fan of the overall design of controls on this mower.

The overall appearance and ergonomics of the Bobcat QuickCat stand on Mower is not bad. It is the traditional deep green appearance that other Bobcat mowers have.

This mower isn’t the flashiest and won’t turn many heads though. In future iterations of this mower I would like to see a more modern look like some of the competitors have done.

Overall, not bad and not exactly the most important part of a commercial lawn mower. Other factors are way more important, in my opinion.

Build Quality

It is built to last and handle some of the toughest mowings and cutting jobs with ease. From my experience I see the build quality of the Bobcat QuickCat to be very good.

It is built heavy duty and has some great engineering behind it to ensure the mower will hold up over time.

The deck also has a high build quality. It is made of 7 gauge steel and definitely one of the more sturdy decks on the market.

Fuel Tank

The fuel tank at 6.5 gallons is a bit small. Especially for Kawasaki carb engine options there is no way this mower will last a full day in the field without filling up.

Most larger zero turn mowers have almost twice this size fuel tank. Even other stand on across the industry usually have 8 gallon size tanks. This is primarily for the 52″ and 61″. The 36″ has a much smaller frame so it gets a pass.

The little tank doesn’t make much sense and something I really would like to say changed on this mower. It is centered well and keeping the weight low it just simply isn’t large enough for a commercial application.

The warranty of the Bobcat QuickCat 4000 is one of the best in the industry. It may very well be the biggest selling point of this mower.

6 year or 2000 hour warranties is one of the longest commercial warranties I have seen on a commercial lawn mower. This shows that Bobcat truly stands behind their machines.

There is no doubt that safety is one of the most important points to be kept in mind when it comes to buying a stand on mower. The Bobcat Stand on is known to offer unmatched stability.

This is because of the platform being positioned over the rear wheelbase. It improves the center of mass stability quite significantly and therefore the users can easily ride on slopes and hills without the fear of the mower tripping or tilting and falling.

On top of that, as mentioned above the platform is a flip up design so if you get in a tricky situation on a hill you can always get off and walk behind the mower.

Our Rating

Cut Quality:

We were unable to get the exact pricing on this stand on mower. However, our guess is you will be able to find this mower for around 8,000 – 10,000 at your local dealer.

Bobcat is usually running some rebates and promotions during the fall and spring so be sure to check their website for these before heading to a dealer.

Wrapping It Up

Overall, the Bobcat stand on is a pretty good mower with a great warranty. If you have a very good Bobcat dealer in your area it may before worth getting these mowers.

They are solid machines that are built to last. I hope there are some minor changes in the future that would make this mower great!

The Bobcat Company was originally founded in North Dakota in 1947 by Edward Gideon “E.G.” Melroe and his brother, Leslie Melroe. The company initially produced a small, self-propelled loader designed for cleaning barns, but quickly expanded its product line.

In 2007, Bobcat was acquired by Doosan Infracore, a South Korean conglomerate that specializes in the production of mowers, especially industrial machinery. Doosan Infracore merged Bobcat with several of its other equipment.

Where are Bobcat Mowers Manufactured?
