Carburetor Adjustment Husqvarna 142

Adjustment options

The Husqvarna 142 chainsaw has a fuel setting and chain tension adjustment. As with most chainsaws, the tension is carried out using the adjusting screw; termination criterion. The chain does not sag and, at the same time, easily walks along the bus. Carburetor adjustment is required when weather conditions and fuel quality change. Symptoms for which it is necessary are as follows: the chain rotates at idle speed, the chainsaw stalls when you press the gas, does not develop speed, and greatly slows down when cutting. If you need to tune your chainsaw, we recommend reading our article on how to adjust the Husqvarna carburetor, which describes in detail all the nuances of adjusting Husqvarna saws, and also read this

Husqvarna 142 chainsaw review, from device to repair

The Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is a household tool and is used only for sawing wood materials. Its distinguishing feature: the affordability of a well-known brand is combined with impressive technical characteristics. Check out the results of our review and see for yourself.

Husqvarna 142 in use

The fuel mixture was prepared by us on the basis of AI 92 gasoline and Husqvarna HP branded two-stroke oil in a ratio of 50 to 1. It is interesting to note here that in the absence of oil added in the indicated ratio at hand, the manufacturer permits the short-term use of high-quality oil diluted with gasoline in the ratio 33 to 1.

We operated Husqvarna 142 for about an hour. It fits perfectly as a household chainsaw: almost complete absence of vibrations in the hands, quite tolerable noise level and, most importantly, excellent cutting ability. Trunks of fresh pine and dry birch with a diameter of 26 cm were repeatedly sawn for an average of 7 seconds each. The dry oak gave in a little more slowly; it took about 14 seconds to cut a log with a diameter of 24 cm. Sawing speeds are slightly lower than those of the professional chainsaws that we tested, but these are also saws of a different order of magnitude. The Husqvarna 142 is not afraid of working at full power, high revs are even recommended by the instructions. The brake is perfect. The chain stops instantly.

User’s manual

This is the only lifesaver in many situations, which is why it is never ignored in our reviews. Looks not intimidating: only 32 pages, two blank of which are for personal notes. There are no traces of translation by electronic systems, but in two places there are phrases that are slightly cutting the eyes, for example, “the spark plug does not light”.

Characteristics 142 of Husqvarna are presented fully with a slight caveat. Only one Champion spark plug model used is shown. But nowhere is it written explicitly that the use of any other models is strictly prohibited due to design features. As a rule, manufacturers either indicate several suitable models, or describe in detail the characteristics of the required plugs. Therefore, the section describing the ignition system could be more informative. This remark is not important, since experienced owners know how to use specialized catalogs of manufacturers and in most cases select an analogue of any candle.

The assembly procedure for the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is described in detail with drawing explanations.

Special attention is paid to self-correction of minor problems that arise during the work. How to troubleshoot a Husqvarna 142 chainsaw that won’t start or start and stall is described in great detail. But the section in which the carburetor setting is described could be more informative. In particular, to adjust the quality of the mixture, it is indicated what to turn, but the criterion for the end of the adjustment is not clearly stated.

In general, the operating instructions for the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw are convenient and contain the minimum necessary knowledge of operation and repair.

Governing bodies

Here in Husqvarna 142 is a classic minimum. They are represented by a switch that takes the On or Off position, a choke position lever that can be in one of three positions, and a combined throttle position control lever with a stopper. Only “suction” needs to be explained here. Between the fixed positions of the open and closed throttle, there is a third stable position, corresponding to the half open throttle of the chainsaw carburetor. It is used when starting a cold engine after several jerks with a closed choke starter. Husqvarna 142 has no primer. Primary fuel pumping is carried out using the starter handle. Well, the fewer nodes, the less breakdowns!

Secondly, its cutting headset is standard for Husqvarna and, if necessary, replacement will not lead to a long search or waiting. Thirdly, the manufacturer focuses on undemanding gasoline quality, without specifying the minimum permissible octane number. Therefore, the conclusion at the first step of the review is as follows: the characteristics of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw are suitable not only for working in the country, but also for semi-professional use.

Fuel mixture preparation

When operating a chainsaw, a fuel mixture of gasoline and oil in a ratio of 15: 1 by volume should be used, that is, 1 liter of oil should be added to 15 liters of gasoline and the mixture should be thoroughly mixed. The amount of gasoline and oil in the fuel mixture is shown in this table:

ATTENTION! Application of oils: Lukony-2T; TNK-2T OIL: AZMOL Sport 2T GD “and others, and the waste oil in the fuel mixture will lead to failure of the needle bearing of the connecting rod.

What is responsible for supplying a mixture of fuel and oil

For accurate delivery of fuel with oil, the operation of the fuel pump is used, which is mechanically driven from the crankshaft. The carburetor itself is equipped with a diaphragm and a special needle valve, which are responsible for regulating the pressure in the system. Thanks to them, the correct operation of the metering chambers and the pump is organized, which improves the operation of the chainsaw.

When carburetor adjustment is necessary?

The reasons why this unit will need to be adjusted can be listed for a very long time.

Among the main malfunctions are the following:

  • Increase in idle speed;
  • The appearance of a large amount of smoke during operation;
  • Deterioration of starting properties;
  • Insufficient tool power when cutting.

This is not a complete list of all known faults. Sometimes a procedure such as adjusting the carburetor on a Husqvarna chainsaw needs to be done after a major overhaul of the power plant or after maintenance.

The developers of Husqvarna 137 write in the passport that the carburetor adjustment must be carried out before and after running the tool.
