Chainsaw Grasps But Doesn’t Start

If such a nuisance has occurred, it is very important to find the cause of the malfunction and eliminate it as soon as possible. For this, it is not necessary to contact the services where the equipment will be put in order for a fee. Sometimes the breakdown can be so insignificant that it is not difficult to cope with it yourself.

How is the tool factory?

Chainsaw equipped carbureted two-stroke engine, which is practically its main element. Its power depends on the model of technology and its direct purpose.

Chainsaw headset includes:

The larger the headset has, the more powerful and productive it will be, and therefore the cut will be deeper. Therefore, the engine must not be inferior to it in power, otherwise the tool will be inferior.

The chainsaw is lubricated with special oil directly from the second tank located on the hand block. Its mass has such features that the fuel and oil intended for the engine end simultaneously.

We familiarized ourselves with the main elements of the tool, now it will be easier to understand the reasons why the chainsaw may stop working and how to eliminate them.

Causes of malfunctions and solutions

Chainsaw Grasps But Doesnt Start

Almost every owner of a chainsaw at least once encountered the fact that the tool either does not start at all when you press the gas, or starts and after a while stalls. The reasons for the failure of the device may be many. Some of them are quite simple and easily eliminated. Therefore, it is worth exploring the main reasons so that in the event of an elementary breakdown, do not carry the tool to the chainsaw repair service.

Why does the chainsaw start and stall right away?

There may be several reasons for this:

  1. Not enough fuel in the gas tank. If the tool stopped working immediately after the factory, then first of all it is necessary to check the presence of fuel in the gas tank. If it is not enough, then you need to add fuel mixture, which is prepared strictly according to the instructions attached to the tool. The fuel for a chainsaw consists of gasoline with the highest possible octane rating and oil, the brand of which should be registered in the instrument data sheet.
  2. Poor contact between spark plugs and high voltage wire. The gap between the tip of the candle and the wire should be no more than 0.5 mm. If a candle forms on the candle, then it must be cleaned and dried. Experts recommend periodically updating the candles, even if the old ones still work properly.
  3. Pouring candles. A large amount of fuel is collected between the electrodes of the candle, so if the candle is filled, a spark will not form. To eliminate such a breakdown, just remove the candle and dry it. Using a gas burner will be useful to heat.
  4. Dirt in carburetor nozzle or fuel filter. To clean the gas filter is quite simple on its own, and it is better to entrust the cleaning of the carburetor to specialists.

Chainsaw malfunction at idle

The cause of such a malfunction may be dirty silencer. Therefore, in order for the tool to work properly, sometimes you just need to clean the exhaust silencer from tar tar.

Quite often, an air filter is clogged in the instrument, air intake in the system is clogged, and this leads to the device stalling at idle.

To clean the air filter, it must be carefully removed, making sure that dust does not get on the carburetor. Next, the filter is thoroughly washed with detergents, dried and put in place.

The chainsaw may stop idling due to fuel filter problems. To check it, you must disconnect the gas line from the carburetor. If during pumping up fuel almost does not flow out of the hose and flows to the carburetor weakly, then most likely the filter is clogged with garbage.

To clean it, you must first drain all the fuel, and then remove the filter from the tank. This is done using a wire hook through the filler head of the tank. Then the filter is disconnected from the hose and cleaned.

For normal operation of the chainsaw, air and fuel filters are recommended to be replaced every three months.

The chainsaw may stall at idle when it has damaged fuel line. Therefore, each time before starting work, it is recommended to inspect the mechanism, its components and blocks for possible mechanical damage to the housing and fuel supply, and fluid spills.

If the instrument was stored in a damp place for a long time or was exposed to temperature extremes, then the tube could simply crack. In this case, it must be replaced with a new one.

If the chainsaw does not want to work at idle, then the reason for this may be non-compliance with the ratio of gasoline to oil when preparing the fuel mixture. The proportions must strictly comply with the instructions attached to the chainsaw. If they are not observed, then the engine will not be sufficiently lubricated, as a result of which the mechanism will begin to stall.

Chainsaw does not work at high speeds

At high speeds, the tool may begin to stall due to malfunctions:

  • Gas pump;
  • Fuel filter;
  • Air filter.

To believe a gasoline pump, you need to see if fuel leaks through it or not. If it is damaged, then most likely the chainsaw stalls at full speed because of this, and the pump needs to be replaced with a new one.

To check fuel filter, it is enough to disconnect the hose from the carburetor and see if gasoline flows from it or not. If it flows in full stream, then everything is fine. Otherwise, the fuel filter must be cleaned or replaced with a new one.

To clean the air filter, you just need to wash it under running water and then dry it thoroughly.

Tool motor does not withstand loads

If the chainsaw often began to stall when cutting thick logs, then problems should be found in the air filters or the fuel supply system.

When operating under heavy load, the engine may simply not receive enough fuel and stop. Therefore, this problem can be eliminated by cleaning the air filter or replacing the fuel, which should be prepared strictly according to the recommendations of the instruction.

The new chainsaw does not want to work

In principle, there should be no problems with the new tool, but if it still does not start, then most likely it manufacturing defects or all instructions are not complied with.

To fix this problem, you should first see if everything is screwed and connected, as required by the instructions.

The cause of the malfunction may be improperly prepared fuel mixture. The performance of the chainsaw may be affected by the poor quality ingredients from which the fuel was made. It is best to choose a tool oil for a well-known manufacturer, so that later there are no problems during operation.

If everything was done strictly according to the instructions, but the chainsaw still does not work, you will have to contact a service workshop.

Failure of the cylinder piston group

If all the above malfunctions are eliminated, and the chainsaw stalls when you press the gas anyway, then the reason will need to be found in the engine, or rather, in its cylinder.

Sometimes you can determine the performance of the cylinder-piston group simply visually. It will not work to start the saw if there are teasing, chipping and other defects. In this case, the spare parts must be replaced.

When you press the gas, the tool may not start or stop working altogether if the piston rings are damaged. Therefore, if there are no other obvious reasons, it is necessary to examine the rings, damage to which leads to a loss of engine power. The fact that the time to change the rings, says their free play in the grooves of the cylinder.

However, in order to fully understand the technical condition of the cylinder-piston group, the engine should be completely disassembled. This work is laborious and only a specialist can do.

Undoubtedly, a breakdown of equipment can upset its owner. But you should not despair ahead of time, because some breakdowns can be eliminated on your own. If the chainsaw does not start when you press the gas, this does not mean that it must immediately be carried to the workshop. In some cases, it will be enough just to follow the advice of specialists, which are described in this article.
