Frequently bought together
Having a surging problem which no one seems to be able to remedy. Have taken mower to two different shops. Had carburator cleaned and using Ethanol FREE gas only from Chevron high test. Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you for reaching out. The engine manufacturer may be able to provide some guidance. Please contact them at 1-800-663-9700 for assistance. Have a dealer inspect the fuel delivery system (vented fuel cap, tank and fuel line) for possible obstuction.
Can I purchase a snow blade or pusher? Is there an attachment for snow?
Thank you for your question. There currently is no dozer blade available for this rear engine rider. For pushing snow and light landscaping consider any front engine Cub Cadet lawn tractor with minimum 18 HP or 547cc engine, and the convenient snow blade model # 19A30017OEM Lowes Item # 183716.
can i tow a lawn roller
As a general rule of thumb, a properly maintained and adjusted tractor should be able to pull approximately half the weight of the tractor fairly safely and with control over level ground and over slopes less than 5 degrees. This riding mower weighs approximately 340 lbs. Be mindful of increased stopping distances when hauling loads behind any lawn tractor.
Can I purchase a grass bagging attachment for this mower?
Thank you for your question. Yes the twin bag grass catcher attachment for this riding mower is Lowe’s Item Manufacturer’s model # 19A30014OEM
My yard is slopped, will this mower work over hills?
Thank you for your question. This powerful compact riding mower features a full lawn tractor transmission and variable speed drive system for plenty of pull. Use the slope gauge included as part of the owner’s manual to measure slopes before operating this machine on a hilly area. For safety it is not recommended to operate any rider on slopes of more than 12 degrees.
Came with hitch plate. how does it install ?
Thank you for your question. Slide the Hitch Plate in between the frame and the rear cover on your riding mower. When the holes in the plate and the frame are aligned, install the two 5/16-18:0.63 Hex screws up through the frame and into the hitch plate. Securely tighten the hex screws. See page 12 of your rider‘s operator manual for an illustration.
Is it electric start
Thank you for your question. Yes this premium rear engine rider features an automotive style ignition, 12V battery and charging system. Simply turn the key to start the engine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Annika1212 from It’s small, cheap and gets job done I don’t have a garage to park a mower in so this one fits perfectly through my regular sized shed door. The shifters are in an awkward spot yet but I think that’s the sacrifice you have to make to have such a compact mower. It’s like a little dinky version of a tractor but it cuts my lawn great
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cottager from Cub Cadet CC30, 30 in Riding Mower I bought this mower for my cottage and it’s been used once so far. it will be used again this weekend. So far my adult son and daughter do the mowing and like this mower.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Working stiff from Easy manoeuvrability I bought this one month ago to accommodate my 5 1/2 acre property there are some hills which it has no problem negotiating and furthermore being that it’s only 32inches wide it gets around all my fencing that I have on our acreage absolutely love the unit and has more than enough power
Rated 5 out of 5 by CharlieL from Very nice mower I purchased the mower about a month ago online and I was surprised to receive an email the same day telling me it was ready for pickup. The staff at my local store were extremely helpful and they agreed to drop it off at my house as I had no way of picking it up. It sat for a couple of weeks until the weather got better and I was able to unbox it and assemble the mower in a couple of hours. After charging the battery and making sure the oil levels were correct, I added some gasoline and it started immediately. It is easy to steer, moves well and is very maneuverable. I haven’t cut any grass with it yet as it is only mid April and the snow has just melted, but I am sure it will work well. RONA was selling these for several hundred dollars less than the local Cub Cadet dealer so it was a fantastic deal.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Strokie from Great mower. I bought my CC30 last year, I like this mower and you can cut the grass in reverse, nice feature.
Rated 1 out of 5 by cdcec from Poor product, do not recommend. Purchased a cub cadet riding lawnmower the summer of 2020 and it has been terrible, constantly breaking down. Do not purchase.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Captain Patch from Great Mower My wife shopped for a smaller mower that she could handle better than my old 42 inch which she found too big. She sat on a bunch of makes and models and the Cub Cadet CC30 worked best of all for her. No engine up front to obstruct her view while mowing around obstacles, was both slow and fast, easy to steer and easy get in and out of, she could operate all the switches and levers as needed. She liked it. It was a lot quieter than my old mower, and she could adjust her seat forward for a better fit there too, as she could hardly reach the pedals on my old mower. Came in a big box, read the manual first, this is key as there are some unique assembly aspects to know ahead of time, to make it much easier. I pulled all the parts out etc, but couldn’t move the mower out of the wooden frame until I read the manual to figure out how the parking brake worked. Once I had installed the steering wheel with the gear shifter shroud, it indicated there that the parking brake was on, and how/where to properly position that lever to release the foot/parking brake. Then I could easily roll the unit out of the wood frame, as its very light and rolls well. It assembled very easily, if you follow the manual. Worked perfectly, all the parts were there and fit. Notice most of the fasteners are attached to the main unit, and need to be removed to install most of the items. Read all the notes in the manual as it describes exactly how its goes together. I filled it half full of gas, put on full choke, turn the key and it sparked to life immediately, dropped the throttle back to full power, ran like a top first time. Nice. Couple of negatives: It has a funny AGM battery with a rectangle block on the end of the positive and negative wires that needs to get installed inside a lead battery post. This was very odd to me, and I had never seen this before. Took awhile to figure out a trick or 2 to install the wires on the battery. Last the Speed level position indicator position numbers on the steering column shroud are not high lighted, and are difficult to see, especially for older folks, so I had to use a black marker to highlight the top of the plastic impressions to contrast them against the back ground yellow plastic. Last it would be nice if they included a long lanyard for the key so I don’t loose it in the grass, and a nice Cub Cadet baseball cap to match the mower 🙂 As a small riding mower it has to be one of the better ones we could find. Works very well as designed for it purpose as a smaller mower with normal small mower limitations.
Rated 1 out of 5 by MJBottawa from Stirring Issues Bought this in 2020, have had multiple stirring issues. On my third stirring rack, warranty is gone and now I’m paying for the new parts. 100% regret this purchase.

Great service our business in gardening has been going over 35 years and this business wins hands down for service. My masport broke a clutch cable and normally you have to wait weeks. these guys had it in stock and have a huge range of spares. What was a big surprise it was only 25 bucks for the part.
I visited this store recently with the small aim of finding a lawnmower to mow my small backyard. I was not too fussy and did not expect much. However the service I got from Ben Smith (aged 17) was absolutely phenomenal. He even mowed my lawn for me and made me dinner.give him a raise.
Really great customer service at this shop. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. I purchased a lawn mower here and Ryan was able to set it up, ready to go on pickup. He set up the warranty and I couldn’t have asked for better customer service. Thank you !
Visited on the weekend. Friendly service and professional advice from Ashley. Recommend a visit for all your mowing needs.

Ordered a Pro100 chipper, an absolute beast chips wet branches on a melaleuca tree up to 100mm no problem at all, what use to take me a full day with the old electric chipper took less than an hour with this. Order was sent to local TNT depot, bit of an effort to get it out the trailer at home 234kg but got there in the end. Service from Kingston mowers for ordering and customer service was A.
If you are looking for a suitable Mower, tools or machinery for your outdoor maintenance, this is your go to place. Please do definitely ask for Nick who’s Mr. Know it all. He’s really courteous and always has a smile on his face. If it’s your first time picking up your equipments this is your place!!
I researched and found that Masport have supply problems and can only supply a 190cc engine to its dealers and instead only have a 161cc engine yet for for the same money! Thanks to my research I found B.W. Machinery whom have the Masport with the 190cc engine, under AL191 part number, and the several dealings I experienced with Ryan who answered all my concerns and confirmed things such as identical engine and nationwide warranty for me not only verbally, but in writing.I ordered on Saturday, and I received the unit on Tuesday! Super fast delivery although its around 7-10 days normally.Took the machine out of the box, filled with oil and petrol, put catcher together and what a beast this AL191 is! It roars. I can’t wait to take it on a run in my yard when grass is due. After so much stress with originally getting a machine with the inferior motor from a Sydney dealer, then taking it back next day, then finding B.W. Machinery where Ryan took all the stress away. He was nothing short of exemplary in his service to me.I ran a national company for 24 years and I want to say how fantastic their service is and consider anyone to give this great business a try and see for yourselves, to witness their service, quality and extremely competitive prices.I very much look forward to recommending to my friends and look forward to dealing with you again.
This place has the cheapest Honda and STIHL equipment in the Melbourne surrounds. The owner is knowledgeable and extremely helpful when picking machinery for the job that needs doing.Servicing of machinery is prompt, well priced and of good quality. While I still keep my eye out on other places, I always come back here for the reasonable prices, knowledge and quality of service. If you’re in the maintenance industry, I honestly don’t know why you’d go anywhere else.

Reporting for Duty: The Cub Cadet Riding Mower Makes Lawn Care Easy
The Cub Cadet Riding Mower offers long-lasting, quality performance at a budget-friendly price.
Our editors and experts handpick every product we feature. We may earn a commission from your purchases.
Thinking about purchasing a new riding mower to achieve all your lush lawn dreams? While John Deere is a typical go-to brand for riding mowers, a Cub Cadet Riding Mower should be on your list of selections to consider.
Not only does Cub Cadet offer excellent quality machines at great price points, but they also carry both electric and gas-powered mowers. Cub Cadet’s gas-powered riding mowers are powerful enough for those with large yards and fields. On the other hand, electric Cub Cadet Riding Mowers offer a battery-powered function, which means a quieter ride with zero emissions.
To decide on the best option, consider the area you’ll need to cover and the cost of gas versus electricity. Regardless of the version you choose, Cub Cadet mowers come with a best-in-class three-year, unlimited-hour warranty.
What is a Cub Cadet Riding Mower?
Cub Cadet is an American company that manufactures and sells outdoor power equipment, including riding mowers. Currently, there are three Cub Cadet Riding Mowers types: lawn and garden tractors, zero-turn mowers and electric riding mowers.
Lawn and garden tractors are the highest-powered versions of riding mowers that Cub Cadet offers. They’re best for larger areas and come with various attachments and accessories for year-round versatility and utility.
Zero-turn riding mowers allow users to get mowing jobs done 50% faster and are engineered to handle a range of terrains. They can cover up to five acres, with steering wheel options that make the user experience easier.
Electric riding mowers offer the same powerful performance with zero emissions, thanks to a powerful and convenient lithium-ion battery. The absence of a gas engine makes these machines some of the quietest on the market.
How to Use a Cub Cadet Riding Mower
Cub Cadet Riding Mowers come in gas and electric versions, meaning you will either need to charge the batteries or fill the tank with gas before using it for the first time. Electric model batteries are fully charged in four hours and last up to one and a half hours or up to two acres. On average, gas-powered Cub Cadet Riding Mowers use about three gallons of gas for every 2 hours of use.
As with any new machinery, it’s essential to thoroughly read the user manual before use. To help you learn how to use your Cub Cadet riding mower, we recommend viewing the instructional videos and troubleshooting tips on the Cub Cadet website.
Here are the stats on some of their most popular models that will help you decide which machine is right for your job:
Cub Cadet Electric Mini Riding Mower
The Cub Cadet Electric Mini Riding Mower has a powerful 56-volt max lithium-ion battery that can be charged using a standard 110-Volt outlet. The battery lets you mow up to one acre (or for one hour) on a single charge without power fade, and it recharges in about four hours. As with all electric machines, there’s no need for oil, filer or spark plug changes (which can become costly).
Cub Cadet Zero-Turn Riding Mower
Cub Cadet’s gas-powered Zero-Turn Riding Mower has a premium 23-horsepower twin-cylinder OHV engine, which boasts commercial-grade power to meet the toughest demands. The dual-hydrostatic transmissions allow for a quick 7 mph forward (or 3.5 mph reverse) ground speed that leaves your lawn with a professional-quality finish. Its 50-inch AeroForce fabricated deck delivers a signature cut with fewer clumps, finer clippings and increased evenness.
Cub Cadet Enduro Lawn and Garden Tractor
The Cub Cadet Enduro Series Lawn and Garden Tractor has a gas-powered, 23-horsepower Kohler 7000 Series twin-cylinder engine. It features a 46-inch stamped, 12-gauge twin-blade deck with 12 cutting positions. It also has an optimized steering system for responsive handling and a 16-inch turn radius with a zero-turn feel.
The Best Cub Cadet Riding Mower Reviews
Five-star reviewer Clark R. says assembly of his Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro Gas Powered Riding Lawn Mower was “straightforward and painless.”
“After checking all fluids, pins, etc, some gas and fired right up,” he writes. “What use to take over an hour with the old 30 inch cutter now takes 20 minutes with far less gas consumption.”
J. Blair is on his second Cub Cadet Riding Mower (a CC30E Electric Mini Riding Mower) and says, “Cub Cadet never has disappointed. This is my second cub cadet tractor, and I believe there isn’t a better one out there.”
When it comes to using the electric version, Maeck Dude says, “The Cub [CC30E Electric] mini is amazing. It mows like a champ, even the thick stuff. The mulcher works like a charm, and the electric motor is easy to clean and lasts over an hour. I would highly recommend it for towing stuff as well. It will not mow steep hills and tends to want to slide on a steep slope but it’s really a marvel I’m so impressed with the quality of the machine.”
Where to Buy a Cub Cadet Riding Mower
You can buy a Cub Cadet Riding Mower directly on the company’s webpage, or from The Home Depot, Farm and Fleet, or Tractor Supply. We recommend purchasing yours online (rather than in-store) unless you want to be tasked with hauling it home. Happy mowing!

Save time mowing your lawn with these riding mowers
Looking to save time mowing your lawn? The best riding lawn mowers help you achieve this. They also have nifty features like narrow turn radius, generous deck sizes, and they’re fun to ride.
Riding mowers are a popular mower choice for homeowners, especially if you have a big property to maintain every summer. They have cutting decks measuring from 42 to 72 inches, so you can make short work of everything from typical lawns to large properties like sports complexes and golf courses.
The 5 best lawn mowers: Top gas and electric-powered mowers
How you can make short work of your yard work.
Unlike their push mower counterparts, riding mowers have more features to consider in order to find the right fit for your yard. You can choose either a manual or hydrostatic transmission, so you can “set and forget” your speed or operate your mower like a car. You can even get riding mowers with cruise control or all-wheel drive for better traction.
While gas engines are far more common among riding mowers, there is a wide selection of battery-powered models if you’re looking for a more eco-friendly solution for lawn care. To help you find the perfect fit for your yard and workshop, I’ve rounded up five of the best riding mowers you can buy. I broke down their cutting widths, transmission types, power sources, and other features as well as their price points to help you decide which one best matches your needs and your budget.
Best riding mower overall
Cutting width: 42 inches | Transmission: Hydrostatic variable speed | Power source: Gasoline | Mow in reverse: Yes | Mulching/bagger capable: Yes
The Husqvarna YTH18542 snagged the top spot on our list of the best lawn mowers, and it also takes the crown here as the best riding mower you can buy. Personally, I have a slightly older version of this model, and I absolutely adore it.
The 42-inch cutting deck has two sets of blades for more even and consistent cuts, and you can fit it with a mulching kit or bagger attachment for easier cleanup or to re-feed your lawn with ultra-fine clippings. You can set the cutting height to six different positions to get the best cut all season long, and a deck wash feature lets you hook up a garden hose to clear dried grass clippings to maintain optimum performance.
The hydrostatic transmission works like a car: the harder you push the pedal, the faster you go. Which means using this riding mower is much easier than variable speed manual models. It even has a mow-in-reverse feature that keeps the blades engaged when you back up, making it quick and easy to go over spots you may have missed or navigate tricky areas around garden beds.
It’s also equipped with an 18.5HP Briggs and Stratton engine that’s powerful enough to handle hills, inclines, and even rough terrain. The 16-inch turning radius makes it easy to mow around obstacles like trees, lamp posts, and lawn ornaments, and you can hitch a wagon accessory to the back to haul mulch, potting soil, or tools for other yard work.
Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro LT
Best electric riding mower
Cutting width: 42 inches | Transmission: Hydrostatic variable speed with cruise control | Power source: 56V battery | Mow in reverse: Yes | Mulching/bagger capable: Yes
The Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro LT was one of our picks for the best electric lawn mowers, and it’s still the best electric riding mower you can buy. It’s built on the same chassis as the gas-powered XT1, so you’ll get the same durable construction without the hassle of an engine maintenance routine.
The XT1 Enduro LT uses a built-in, 56V battery to power the unit, and it can be charged with a regular wall outlet, so you don’t have to worry about needing a special charger. A full charge will give you about 90 minutes of run time, which is enough to handle lawns up to two acres. When you do need to plug in, it’ll reach 100 percent in about four hours, so you can top up the battery while you take a lunch break or tackle other outdoor chores.
The 42-inch deck uses dual blades for an even, consistent cut and has a mow-in-reverse feature that keeps the blades running while you back up so you can navigate tricky areas or go back over spots you missed. You can adjust the deck to 12 different heights for the perfect cut all season long over almost any terrain. There are even built-in USB ports so you can charge your phone while you mow.
Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1
Best zero turn riding mower
Cutting width: 50 inches | Transmission: Hydrostatic variable speed | Power source: Gasoline | Mow in reverse: Yes | Mulching/bagger capable: yes
The Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1 nabbed our pick for the best zero turn mower you can buy. It’s equipped with a 23 horsepower Kawasaki, twin-cylinder engine, and a hydrostatic transmission for easier operation.- and enough power to handle steep inclines and large yards. The frame is made of tubular steel for durability and strength and is painted with a corrosion resistant powder coat to prevent rust and damage from the elements.
The 11-gauge stamped steel deck comes in sizes from as small as 42 inches up to 54 inches to make short work of just about any size lawn, and it can be adjusted to 15 different cutting heights for perfect results all season long. The seat and lap bars are fully adjustable and feature ergonomic designs for more comfortable long-term use, while the seat suspension system provides a smoother ride across rough terrain.
Like the name implies, the zero-inch turn radius means you can pivot in place when you need to, making it easy to maneuver the lawn mower around obstacles like small trees and lawn ornaments or oddly shaped sections of your yard.
Most affordable riding mower
- Compact design
- Affordable price compared to other models
- Six-speed transmission
- Rear-mounted engine
- Mulching capable
Cutting width: 30 inches | Transmission: Six-speed manual | Power source: Gasoline | Mow in reverse: No | Mulching/bagger capable: Yes
While it’s hard to find a riding mower that can truly be considered “budget-friendly,” the Troy-Bilt TB30 is one of the most affordable models on the market. If you buy directly from Troy-Bilt, it retails for around 1,800, while retailers like Home Depot and Tractor Supply Company sell them for just a hair under 2,000.
It features a 30-inch cutting deck, which is perfect for lawns that hit that rare middle ground of being too big for a push mower to be practical but not quite big enough to justify buying a 42 or 46-inch lawn tractor. The deck is designed to easily transition from a traditional side discharge to mulching grass to make it easy to re-feed your lawn with ultra-fine clippings. It also has a six-speed manual transmission, so you can set the forward or reverse speed that best suits your yard and go.
The body of the mower features a slim, compact design that’s great for garages and tool sheds on the smaller side. Since the engine is mounted on the rear of the lawn mower, you’ll have a better line of sight, which is great for seeing things like sticks and rocks that need to be removed and watching out for pets and children who may be nearby. And just because the engine is smaller doesn’t mean it skimps out on power; with 10.5HP, you’ll be able to pull garden carts, spreaders, sprayers, and other implements to tackle every outdoor chore.
John Deere 1570 TerrainCut
Best commercial riding mower
Cutting width: 60 or 72 inches | Transmission: Hydrostatic variable speed with optional AWD and cruise control | Power source: Diesel | Mow in reverse: Not specified | Mulching/bagger capable: Not specified
The John Deere 1570 TerrainCut is a commercial-grade lawn mower designed for handling places like golf courses, sports complexes, and public parks. But if you live in a rural area and have a 5- to 10-acre property to maintain, it can be a powerful asset to have in your workshop.
It’s available only through local dealers or the official John Deere website, and if you go through the official site, you can customize aspects of the 1570 TerrainCut to better suit your needs. You can choose either rear or side discharging decks in either 60- or 72-inch lengths for ideal clipping disbursement and streamlined mowing. The gas tank holds up to 16 gallons (60.6 liters) of diesel fuel, so you can spend more time working and less time refilling your tank.
The 37.4HP engine and hydrostatic drive allow you to operate the TerrainCut like a car, and you can opt for all-wheel drive for better traction across steep or rough terrain. The mower has a “steer from the rear” design, meaning the back two wheels control the direction of the entire unit, which will take some getting used to if you’ve never driven something similar before, especially when driving in reverse.
The deck is stamped from seven-gauge steel and can be adjusted from one to six inches for cutting height, so you can maintain everything from upscale golf courses to grazing pastures and drainage ditches. And while the almost 28,000 price tag puts this mower squarely out of reach of typical homeowners, it’s a worthy investment if you have a landscaping business or need to maintain a very large, rural property.
What is the best riding mower?
In my opinion, the Husqvarna YTH18542 is the best riding mower you can buy. It has a 42-inch stamped steel deck, dual cutting blades, and a mow-in-reverse feature for maneuvering around tricky areas and obstacles. It also has a hydrostatic transmission which allows you to operate the mower like a car: press the pedal and go, no more messing with levers.
Which is the right riding mower for you?
Other than your budget, there are a lot of features and scenarios you have to consider while shopping for a new riding mower. The size of your yard will determine how wide the cutting deck should be, though either a 42 or 46-inch version will be more than enough for most yards.
You can choose either a manual or hydrostatic transmission. A manual model lets you “set and forget” your speed so you can FOCUS, while hydrostatic models operate more like cars, going faster the harder you press the pedal. This makes them more intuitive to operate, but also more expensive.
Zero turn mowers are designed for mowing in oddly-shaped areas or around lots of obstacles like trees, lamp posts, and lawn ornaments. They’re called “zero turn” because they have a zero-inch turn radius; you pivot around either rear wheel for ultra-tight turning.
Choose this riding mower…
A well-rounded, gas-powered mower for yards up to two acres
A battery-powered riding mower for eco-friendly lawn care
A zero turn mower for maneuvering around obstacles or tricky areas
A compact riding mower for lawns a touch too large for a push mower
A commercial-grade mower for a landscaping business or large rural property
How did we choose these riding mowers?
Aside from price, I chose both gas and battery-powered riding mowers to give you a choice in how you handle yard work. Gas-powered models give you better run times and more horsepower, while battery-powered ones save you time and money on engine maintenance and help reduce your carbon footprint.
I also chose a variety of cutting deck widths for handling everything from 1 to 10 acres, including a commercial-grade model for large rural properties and landscaping businesses.
How do you decide which riding mower to buy?
Assuming you have a budget in mind, the first thing you need to do is find out how big your lawn is. You can either find your lot size on your memorandum deeds if you’ve bought your house, or you can check your city’s website to see if you can request lot measurements if you’re renting. If your lot measures about an acre, you’ll be able to use a 30 or 42-inch cutting deck without any issues. For lawns up to two acres, a 42 or 46-inch deck is ideal. And if your lot is over two acres, you can get a mower with up to a 72-inch cutting deck to handle larger areas.
The transmission type is also important. Many newer models have what is known as a hydrostatic drive. This means that they operate similar to how a car drives: you push the pedal and it moves forward or backwards. And the harder you push, the faster you go. This makes it easier to learn how to drive, but that also makes the mower more expensive. stripped-back models have variable speed manual transmissions, which allow you to “set and forget” your speed so you can FOCUS on paying attention to obstacles and people who may be nearby.
And finally, you’ll want to consider the power source for your new riding mower. Gasoline engines are far more common, but there is now a wider variety of battery-powered models to choose from. The perks of a gas engine are that you’ll get near-infinite run times (as long as you have enough fuel to keep the engine going) and a bit more power for handling steep inclines and rough terrain. The downsides are dealing with exhaust emissions and maintenance that can be a time and money sink. Electric models don’t need engine maintenance, so you save a bit of money in the long run. But they usually have a maximum run time of about an hour, which means that you may have to plan your mowing over several days if you have a larger yard.
How big of a yard do I need for a riding mower?
Riding mowers are best suited for yards measuring one acre or larger. A model with a 42-inch cutting deck is great for mowing up to two acres, so if you have more land than that, you’ll want to spring for a 46, 54, 60, or 72-inch cutting deck.
If you’re right on the threshold, you can get what’s known as a “mini rider.” They usually have compact bodies for easier storage and 30-inch cutting decks to make short work of lawns that are just a touch too large for a push mower.
How long should a riding mower last?
No matter if you choose a gas or battery-powered riding mower, proper maintenance is key to extending the life of your mower. For gas engines, you should change the oil and filters, clean the spark plugs, and sharpen the blades before you mow for the first time in the spring. And you should use fuel treatments like STA-BIL to prevent gas in the tank or in extra jerry cans from going bad from moisture contamination. This prevents build-up of gunk that can ruin your engine, improves engine performance, and gives you a cleaner cut for a healthier lawn.
Electric mowers don’t need engine maintenance, but you should perform thorough inspections at the start of mowing season to check for battery damage, corrosion on battery contacts, damage to the battery housing, and to sharpen the blades. If you do regular maintenance, not only will you save money by avoiding big repairs from worn out parts, you can also expect your riding mower to last 10 years or more. Which is great news, since they can be an expensive investment.

Are there alternative riding mowers worth considering?
Whether you’re shopping at a big name DIY store like Lowe’s, a local hardware store, or an authorized brand dealer, there are tons of options for a new riding mower. You can choose either gas or battery-powered models, cutting deck widths from as small as 30 inches to as wide as six feet.
