Dilute gasoline with chainsaw oil

How to properly prepare a petrol-oil mixture for a chainsaw when running in

As already mentioned, in the process of running in the chainsaw, the parts are lapped. To increase the quality of grinding in parts, it is recommended to fill the tank with gasoline with an increased amount of oil than recommended by the manufacturer. Why is this needed? During lapping, there is an increase in friction, so the parts get hotter. To lower the heating temperature, the friction coefficient should be reduced, which is possible by preparing gasoline with an increased amount of oil.

Gasoline is of the AI-92 brand, and you should not fill in fuel with a higher octane number, as this will only harm the instrument. The buyer must be sure only that the gasoline being poured is really of high quality, and corresponds to the declared resistance to ignition under the influence of compression.

Fuel mixture oil should be used only and exclusively two-stroke. How much oil should be added per liter of gasoline during break-in? To do this, refer to the instructions supplied with the tool, where the manufacturer indicates the standardized value. As a rule, this figure corresponds to a value of 1 to 50 or 1 to 40. Rarely are the rates of 1 to 30 and 1 to 25, and often such values are presented for Chinese chainsaws. Now let’s find out how to properly prepare a petrol-oil mixture when running in a chainsaw? When lapping the tool parts, you need to rely on the manufacturer’s recommended proportion value with the addition of 20% or 5-10 ml.

  • If the manufacturer recommends diluting gasoline with oil in a ratio of 1 to 40, which corresponds to 1 liter per 25 ml. In this case, add another 5-10 ml to 25 ml of oil. This proportion is only appropriate for the running-in period of the tool, which makes it possible to reduce the overheating of the CPG. However, you do not need to be zealous, since the occurrence of carbon deposits on the walls of the CPG is not excluded.
  • When running in in winter, then at least 10 ml of oil is added to the norm, and if in summer, then it is enough to add 5 ml to the normalized proportion. An increase in the proportion of gasoline and oil in winter must be done in order to exclude excessive viscosity of the lubricant at negative temperatures, which will entail poor-quality lubrication of parts.
  • It is recommended to use only synthetic oils of type 2T, intended for internal combustion engines with an air cooling system. Synthetic oils are more expensive than mineral oils, but they help to increase the service life of your tool’s CPG.

It is not recommended to store the finished mixture for more than 2 weeks if alcohol is present in the composition. If you are sure that gasoline is not diluted with alcohol, then the storage period is increased to 2-3 months. Knowing how much oil you need to add to gasoline when running in a chainsaw, you can safely prepare a mixture and start the procedure.

Interesting to know! If the Druzhba or Ural brand chainsaws are being run-in, then when running in the engine, you need to adhere to a ratio of 1 to 15, that is, 66 ml of oil must be added per 1 liter. After grinding the parts, add 50 ml of oil to 1 liter of gasoline.

Running in

A new chainsaw immediately after purchase has a slightly lower performance than similar models that have been in operation. The rated power of the engine is reached only after 6-10 full tanks of the fuel mixture have been used up.

However, it should be noted that running in an imported chainsaw (Husqvarna, Stihl, Partner) has significant differences over domestic chainsaws. So, for example, it is not necessary to develop several tanks of the fuel mixture at idle speed. Running-in consists of cyclic work with a minimum load on the motor: first, the sawing of soft wood is carried out for 1-2 minutes, then 20-30 seconds of idling. This prevents the formation of a large layer of burn-on that occurs during prolonged operation of the chainsaw at idle speed.

Chainsaw break-in must be carried out on high-quality AI-92 gasoline without any additives and branded oil, which is recommended by a specific manufacturer. You can find out what and how much oil you need to fill in gasoline for a chainsaw in the instructions for the chainsaw itself.

In no case should products intended for low-speed engines be diluted with gasoline, as in the photo.

The proportion of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw of the corresponding brand:

  • STIHL with power less than 1.5 kW. (1:40);
  • STIHL with a power of more than 1.5 kW. (1:50);
  • Partner. (1:33);
  • Husqvarna with power less than 1.5 kW. (1:40);
  • Husqvarna with a power of more than 1.5 kW. (1:50);
  • Jonsered. (1:33).

The prepared mixture can be stored for up to two months, and then there is a risk of engine breakdown due to the inevitable decrease in the octane number of gasoline.

Is it possible to pour 95th gasoline into a chainsaw?

This question is most often encountered by novice users of chainsaws. Quite often, they buy 95th gasoline instead of the 92nd recommended by the manufacturer, considering that the higher the octane number, the better the fuel quality.

In fact, this is not the case. The fact is that fuel of the 95th grade in its quality is sometimes not only not superior, but also significantly inferior to the 92nd gasoline. This is due to the fact that the composition of the AI-95 fuel is quite often “catching up” due to the introduction of various additives to it, designed to increase the octane number of gasoline.

In this regard, it is best to use gasoline exclusively of the AI-92 brand for refueling the chainsaw. This will make it possible to prevent serious damage to the chainsaw mechanisms and improve its performance in difficult operating conditions.

Features of running in a new tool

This concept includes a gentle operation of the chainsaw at the initial stage of its operation. The technology also provides for the operation of the engine on a mixture with an engine oil increased by 20%.

The running-in time in engine hours is indicated in the attached instructions. In practice, for the tool to reach the working level, it is enough to generate 3-5 refills of the saw’s gas tank.

New models do not need running-in, but the first hours of operation are not recommended for the chainsaw to be used with heavy loads.

Gasoline, as well as engine and chain saw oils play a key role in the stability of the tool. The durability of the main working mechanisms of the saw depends on their quality and properties, therefore, the choice of fuel and lubricants must be treated with special responsibility. Regular use of high-quality lubricants and fuel is the main guarantee of long-term operation of the chainsaw without unforeseen breakdowns.

Features of the two-stroke engine

Without dwelling on the details of the operation of two- and four-stroke engines, it is worth noting one distinguishing feature. In a four-stroke engine, the lubrication of its parts is provided by a separate system. At the same time, the grease does not burn out during operation and lasts for a long time.

In a two-stroke engine, lubrication is carried out with a mixture of gasoline and oil, which is then burned out in each operating cycle. Such a lubrication scheme simplifies the design of a gasoline engine, reduces its weight and, with an equal working volume, increases power. That is why two-stroke engines are widely used in various hand tools, despite the increased noise and lower efficiency compared to four-stroke.

Gasoline to chainsaw oil ratio during normal use

Any chainsaw will need a fuel-oil mixture for operation. gasoline and two-stroke lubrication.

Gasoline requirements:

Chainsaw Basics: Fuel and Oil

  • fresh, without cloudy sediment, unleaded;
  • gas alcohol (ethanol) should not exceed 10%, and methyl butyl ether (MTBE) should not exceed 15%;
  • octane number should not be lower than 92;
  • no alternative fuels or additives allowed.

To understand what kind of oil should be poured into gasoline for a chainsaw and how much can be diluted, it is necessary to look for the manufacturer of the required saw on the branded product label. Under no circumstances should ordinary engine oil be diluted. this can lead to carbon deposits, abundant smoke emission and increased engine wear.

Ideally, only branded oil should be used. Chainsaw manufacturers, of course, do not produce their own chemicals, but they monitor the quality of certain brands, and this fact is indicated on the packaging. The label also indicates in what proportion to mix gasoline with chainsaw oil. This is often:

  • 1:40;
  • 1:50;
  • 1:33.

When mixing, you need to understand how to dilute gasoline with chainsaw oil:

  • Can only be mixed in a clean, dry container.
  • Under no circumstances should you mix directly in the chainsaw tank.
  • You must first pour gasoline into the container, and then oil, otherwise it may “stick” to the bottom and mix insufficiently.
  • The ratio of the components should not be changed. An excess of lubricant leads to unnecessary waste, and a lack of lubrication leads to overheating and the appearance of defects.
  • The use of gasoline with an octane number higher than 92 is economically impractical, especially since 98 often contain additives that negatively affect the chainsaw engine.
  • In no case should you apply working off.
  • It is recommended to mix gasoline with oil just enough so that nothing remains after work, as over time the octane number of gasoline decreases.

In order for the chainsaw to start “from half a turn”, not to stall and not break too often, it is required to strictly observe the ratio of the mixture poured into the gas tank. How to dilute gasoline for chainsaws Stihl, Husqvarna, Partner and other foreign manufacturers can be in the instructions for these devices themselves. In this case, gasoline is usually taken 92, and branded two-stroke oil.

How to choose for lawn mowers?

For two-stroke engines, lawn mowers use AI-92 or AI-95 gasoline. Most often. the first of the named. There is always information about this in the technical data sheet of the product. If, for some reason, it is not known exactly on what gasoline the trimmer should work, you can pick it up by testing both brands of gasoline in action. Global changes in the engine will not happen from this, and it is quite possible to determine what kind of gasoline this or that model of the unit “likes” more, according to some factors. This will be shown by the developed power, and throttle response, and engine heating, as well as its stable operation at all speeds.

But it is much more difficult to determine the proportions of oil to a certain volume of gasoline. In this case, you need to know at least something about the manufacturer of the equipment. And already according to the standard proportions for this manufacturer, select the proportion for a specific model, taking into account the type of oil.

For example, for Chinese low-power trimmers, two ratios are mainly used. 1: 25 or 1: 32. The first is for mineral oils, and the second is for synthetic oils. We have already talked about the choice of standard proportions for lawn mowers of European and American manufacturers in connection with the type of oil. According to the class of oils for household trimmers, it is necessary to use TB oil according to the API classification. For more powerful. vehicle class.

For information on the ratio of gasoline and oil needed for lawn mowers, see the next video.

Why is gasoline mixed with oil for refueling chainsaws

It is necessary to dilute gasoline with oil in order to avoid the failure of the internal combustion engine. The reason for this is the design features of the lubrication system for two-stroke motors. In the design of such engines there is no chamber for filling engine oil, and if you fill in fuel without lubricant, then the crankshaft, piston, bearings and connecting rods will not receive lubrication. This will significantly reduce the service life of all the listed parts, therefore, it is prohibited to fill in clean fuel.

Gasoline and oil for the chainsaw must be poured in the appropriate proportions, which makes it possible to effectively lubricate the rubbing parts. Lack of lubricant or its excess will lead to negative consequences in the form of carbon deposits. In order for the tool to work properly, it is necessary from the first day of operation of the tool to fill it not only with high-quality materials, but also observe the correct proportions.

For the engine to work properly, the main thing is to fill it with clean fuel without contamination.

Gasoline with chainsaw oil. how to dilute and why it is done

Chainsaws from different companies are based on a two-stroke internal combustion engine, which drives the cutting headset of the tool. To drive the internal combustion engine, the proportions of gasoline with chainsaw oil are used. Combining gasoline with oil is a mandatory procedure, so if you just bought a tool, then you need to understand the features of its refueling.

Chainsaw. first start: assembly, proportions of oil and gasoline, care and storage

How to prepare your chainsaw for the first start? How to prepare the correct fuel mixture and quickly change the headset? In this article, we will answer these and many other questions, as well as give some tips for maintaining and storing your chainsaw.

Assembling a chainsaw using the example of Fubag FPS 56

Like most analogues, the chainsaw is supplied unassembled: a body, a separate tire and a saw headset. In addition to the main parts, the kit includes: a set of tools, a container for gasoline mixture, a tire cover, a bumper, a file for sharpening a chain and reliable safety goggles.

Everything is clear with the kit. let’s move on to the assembly:

Move the guard towards the front handle to make sure the chain brake is disengaged.

Loosen the nuts and remove the chain cover.

Install the cutting link (for the FUBAG FPS 56 chainsaw, it is included in the kit).

We turn the chain on the sprocket, and at the same time install the tire on the saw body.

How to mix fuel for chainsaw

Check if the direction of rotation of the saw chain is correctly set.

Install the chain cover on the main saw body and tighten the nuts by hand.

Adjust the chain tension by turning the tensioning screw until the connecting link touches the underside of the guide.

Raise the end of the tire and finally tighten the nuts.

Manually check the uniformity of rotation and the degree of saw tension.

If the chainsaw has a gas-powered tensioning system, as, for example, the FPS 37 saw model, then the assembly process will take no more than a minute. For this you need:

Place the bar and chain on the chainsaw pins in the correct way (the cutting teeth must be in the direction of travel).
2. Install the cover. For correct installation of the cover, adjust the position.
pins on it so that they go into the holes of the tire.

Pull out the screw stop and tighten a little until the bar and chain do not dangle, but there is some freedom to adjust the chain tension.
4. Adjust the chain tension by rotating the wheel.

Pull out the stop and tighten the cover, ensuring reliable fixation of the equipment.

It is not necessary to tighten the chain all the way, because it may soon stretch again. The chain should have a small margin, slightly sag. It’s not hard to check with your hand Ideal if it lends itself to bend off the tire by a millimeter.

Why do you need to dilute the lubricant

At the very beginning, it is necessary to understand the reason for the dilution of the fuel. The mixture used for the chainsaw is diluted primarily to prolong the life of the owner. The instructions for it strictly prohibit operation without diluting gasoline.

The basis of the chainsaw motor is a piston internal combustion engine. It consists only of a cylinder, therefore it does not have additional systems for lubricating parts. The mixture enters it, settles, lubricates the piston rings and walls. In tools such as chainsaws, oil and gasoline are a one-of-a-kind lubricating fluid. The mixture extends the life of the functioning of all parts.

In addition, it contains additives that are beneficial for engine operation. Possesses antioxidant, preservative and other properties, which are also useful for the engine and its parts.

The proportion of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw: how to dilute

All modern chainsaws are equipped with a two-stroke engine. Its long and trouble-free functioning directly depends on whether the proportion of oil and gasoline is correct for the chainsaw. The variety of tool brands and the features of each of them are the reason that this procedure is not easy for most novice users of chainsaws.

How to dilute the components of the mixture

As mentioned above, gasoline with oil should be diluted in a specially prepared container. Do not do this in a gas tank. The latest technology will cause some of the oil to enter the carburetor. As a result, you will have to disassemble the engine and wash it.

Standard dilution ratios are 50: 1 and 40: 1. Such a mixture will not interfere with the combustion of gasoline in the gas tank and will improve the lubrication of the rubbing parts of the mechanism. When running in a new tool, it is advisable to add twenty percent more lubricant. It is recommended to dilute with a large amount of oil in areas with high air temperatures.

Many owners will be interested in information on how to dilute gasoline with oil if there is no measuring container. A twenty cc medical syringe is suitable for this. Although most often measuring containers are included in the kit for chainsaws.

The neck of the gas tank must be cleaned and degreased before diluting the fuel. It is advisable to pour it through a filter. Any rag will serve as a filter.

After use, the remaining mixture must be drained and disposed of. Remember, it is better to overfill than underfill. What will happen if you do not take into account the recommendations, read below.

If you do not follow the instructions, you can render the tool inoperative. For example, if the fuel is not diluted, then carbon deposits will form more often, the necessary lubrication of the pistons will not occur, as a result of which the temperature in the engine will rise. This will cause the pistons to break. Or the owner of the saw will inhale large quantities of toxic fumes throughout the entire operation. Thus, he will earn health problems, break the instrument.

Mixing oil and gasoline

If you use poor quality lubricants and fuels, they can also damage the engine. It is not recommended to dilute engine oil made for cars. Fuel must be purchased with a high octane rating.

Chainsaw Oil to Gasoline Ratio

How much engine oil needs to be diluted per 1 liter of gasoline will be told by the proprietary operating instructions for the garden tool. For American, Japanese and Swedish models, the proportion of chainsaw oil and gasoline should be 1:40 or 1:50. This means that in 1 liter of pure gasoline you will need to dilute 25 and 20 ml of engine oil, respectively. In these cases, the gasoline mixture will be as balanced as possible and suitable for refueling powerful engines, which are equipped with most chainsaws of well-known brands.

A little differently, you need to dilute gasoline for a Chinese-made chainsaw. In the manuals for these models, their manufacturers indicate that the proportion of the components of the fuel mixture for their refueling should be 1 part of gasoline to 25 parts of engine oil. This means that 40 ml of oil will need to be diluted in 1 liter of fuel. This difference between Chinese gasoline-powered tools and technology produced in other countries is due to the fact that garden tools made in China have a greater distance between the cylinders and pistons than more expensive branded models. Accordingly, they need 2 times more oil for mixing in gasoline.

Oil and how to dilute with gasoline for a chainsaw

To keep your chainsaw running smoothly, its engine requires engine oil. It is the lubricant for the internal combustion engine that is responsible for the stable operation of the garden tool motor at high speeds, fuel consumption and the amount of recycled gases emitted by the chainsaw. The selected oil can significantly extend the life of critical chain saw components and make it more efficient and productive to use on site.

How to dilute gasoline with chainsaw oil?

In order for the chain saw to last as long as possible without flooding the spark plug and deteriorating the carburetor performance, its owner must properly prepare a mixture of gasoline and oil. This rule must be observed constantly, since frequent violations in the proportion of fuel and oil will lead to a gradual increase in the wear of clutch parts and the ignition of garden tools.

You need to prepare the fuel mixture for refueling garden tools in the following order:

  • First, you need to pour the required amount of engine oil into a previously prepared container for the mixture;
  • Then you need to pour gasoline into a container with oil. At the same time, it is not necessary to pour all the fuel into the vessel at once. only half of it will be enough;
  • Next, you need to thoroughly stir the contents of the container;
  • After the fuel mixture acquires a uniform shade, you need to add the second half of the gasoline to it and shake the vessel sharply several times.

The prepared fuel mixture must be immediately poured into the tool tank and used. Otherwise, due to prolonged downtime, engine oil mixed with gasoline will lose the ability to lubricate engine parts.

What gasoline to pour into a chainsaw?

Gasoline is just as important as the engine oil used. The engine thrust and the speed of its operation in different modes largely depend on the quality of the fuel. In addition, it is gasoline that affects the coherence of the elements of the ignition system of garden tools.

Different petrol chainsaws need to be filled with petrol with different octane numbers. Some equipment manufacturers advise using AI-80 gasoline for refueling, others. brands that produce newer gasoline saws recommend preparing a fuel mixture based on 92nd gasoline.

In any case, the only thing that is required of the owner of a chainsaw is not to experiment with the octane rating of the fuel. If the manufacturer advises to fill the fuel tank of the chainsaw only with 92nd gasoline, then this is what needs to be filled. Otherwise, the owner of the saw risks damaging the cylinder-piston group of the engine and violating the factory settings of the carburetor.

What to use chainsaw oil?

Information on which chain oil for your chainsaw is best can be found in the model’s instruction manual. However, not all garden tool owners have a chainsaw manual. In such cases, when choosing an oil, you need to study its characteristics and the main requirements for lubrication.

The first thing to pay attention to is the chain lubrication property for adhesion. During daily operation of the chainsaw at medium and maximum permissible speeds, the chain moves along the tire at a fairly high speed. Thus, oil that is not released by high adhesion will fly off the chain by inertia. As a result, only the upper part of the chain will be lubricated, while the lower, at the same time, will work under the influence of increased friction.

Chainsaw chain oil must meet a number of other requirements.

These include:

  • protection of the chain from corrosion. the lubricant must repel moisture, which provokes the appearance of rust on the teeth and links of the headset;
  • resistance to wear. as a result of intensive use of garden tools, chain parts are subject to increased stress, which leads to their premature wear. The use of a quality lubricant will help prevent this;
  • no carbon deposits. the oil selected for chain lubrication should not accumulate and dry out on the chain elements. Over time, this leads to the formation of bumps that impede the rotation of the chain on the tire;
  • the ability to work in a wide temperature range. high-quality chain lubrication should not freeze at the first frost and boil under the influence of high temperatures. The optimal range is between 15 and 40 ⁰C.

Most often, owners use ForestPlus, SynthPlus and BioPlus compounds to lubricate chains of gasoline household saws. These oils are highly stable, able to withstand the most challenging weather conditions, as well as corrosion protection.

Oil for two-stroke engines of chainsaws

Lubrication of engine parts can ensure the proper operation of the factory mechanism only if it meets certain requirements.

These include:

  • the ability to lubricate parts. the composition should create a uniform oily film that will penetrate into the smallest grooves of the engine, and also prevent friction of the internal combustion engine elements and exposure to high temperatures;
  • smoke formation. good quality grease should not smoke. If black smoke comes out of the chainsaw muffler, then the engine lubricant must be replaced;
  • no carbon deposits. during operation, the oil should not form carbon deposits, which, settling on the walls of both the carburetor and the muffler, reduces their performance and service life;
  • detergent properties. while maintaining the engine’s operation, the engine oil for the chainsaw should clean the walls and engine parts from accumulations of tar and dirt;
  • the ability to work at extremely low and high temperatures. a high-quality lubricant for engine parts should not freeze in frost or boil in direct sunlight. It is best to choose formulations that are capable of working in the range from 20 to 40 ⁰C;
  • the ability to protect against corrosion. when operating a chainsaw in conditions of high humidity, condensate inevitably seeps into the engine, which provokes the formation of rust. Engine oil should protect the internal combustion engine components from rust. To do this, it must contain appropriate additives.

An important role in choosing a lubricant for an engine is its type. Most often, you can find mineral and synthetic oils on sale. Means of the first type have a less balanced composition. which lacks most of the useful additives. Synthetic oil is more popular because it more reliably protects engine parts from wear, corrosion and carbon deposits. That is why synthetic lubricants are more expensive than mineral ones.

There are a number of oils that are popular with both general users and experienced fellers.

These include:

  • Stihl HP. this grease shows high stability and reliable engine protection in all weather conditions. The oil resists corrosion well and practically does not smoke. The composition of the product contains all the additives necessary for the operation of the engine, including components that prevent the formation of carbon deposits;
  • Stihl HP Ultra. belongs to the group of oils of the highest category. The product has excellent lubricating properties, good resistance to wear and corrosion. It contains ashless additives, which guarantees the absence of carbon deposits on the carburetor and muffler;
  • Husqvarna HP. a product of this brand stands out for the presence in its composition of additives designed to compensate for the poor quality of gasoline used. The lubricant is made on a semi-synthetic basis and has a high resistance to corrosion.

When choosing oil for 2-stroke chainsaw engines, it is very important to study the shelf life in advance. It must be remembered that a high-quality grease will not last more than 5 years, even if it is stored in a closed container. Therefore, it is best to buy products that have a shelf life of 2-4 years.

How to lubricate the needle bearing of a chainsaw?

To reduce the stress on the tool sprocket and extend its life, this part is equipped with a needle bearing. For its proper operation during intensive use of the chainsaw, the element must be regularly lubricated.

The Stihl brand universal compound is best suited for needle bearing maintenance. It reliably protects the bearing from wear and corrosion, but the price of this branded grease is quite high. To save money, you can use Litol or Litol 24 brand agents to lubricate the bearing. They stand out for their high viscosity, due to which they cover the bearing with a thin but sufficiently strong oily film.

To add funds, you will need a syringe with a volume of 5 cm3. To lubricate the part, the contents of the syringe must be squeezed into a small hole located in the housing directly above the needle bearing.

If the lubrication of the element has not changed for a long time, then the part must be thoroughly rinsed before changing the oil. To do this, you need to remove the right side part of the chainsaw body and dismantle the bearing. Then the part will need to be placed in a container with clean gasoline. After 24 hours, the bearing will need to be removed from the container and dried thoroughly. At the end, the element must be installed in its original place in the chainsaw.
