Making a rip fence and other useful circular fixtures

A hand-held circular saw, which is simply called a circular saw, is a convenient tool for cutting and cutting sawn timber.

The kit usually comes with accessories that help the master in the work.

But the same adaptations can be made or improved with your own hands. Yes, and work experience will sooner or later lead to the appearance of completely home-made adaptations (as they are called), which, with all their simplicity, can greatly facilitate sawing and save time.

Useful tricks and tips

There are such small devices that it is shameful to consider even a tool. At the same time, they are excellent for cutting. These are the tricks of experienced masters.

Stop for cross and corner cuts

A cross-cut device is also often used. It cuts the boards quickly and accurately at a 90 ° angle. Such an emphasis is also used for trimming boards. Its basis is a sheet of plywood 10 mm thick. A guide bar or rail with a height of at least 20 mm is fixed on it with glue or self-tapping screws. On the underside of the base, a stop is attached, perpendicular to the guide and made of the same bar.

The excess part of the base (from the guide to the saw blade) is cut off. Since this distance is different for each model of a manual circular, the device is always made individually. It is usually attached to the material to be processed with clamps.

Advanced craftsmen make their fasteners from wooden washers, one of which is in the shape of an eccentric. The clamp is carried out by a wing nut on the screw. Such a clamping device allows you to very quickly fix the stop on lumber of different widths.

If you install the same block on the other side of the guide, but fixed at an angle of 45 ° to the first, and then cut off a part of the base at 45 ° with a saw, you get an angular universal stop for cuts at both 45 ° and 90 °. A more versatile design of the corner stop will be obtained in the case of ensuring the rotation of the bar. And the observance of the angle can be monitored by the protractor fixed on top. It should be noted that making a protractor for a circular with your own hands is a more difficult task.

Guide rail

For cuts of large and long sheet lumber on the table, a long guide rail for a circular saw made by yourself will be useful.

The basis in this case is (8–10 mm) a plywood strip with a length exceeding the dimensions of the sheet being cut. The bus itself can be wooden (a bar 15–20 mm thick) or metal from a U-shaped section. The bus is attached to the base with glue or screws. On one side of it, there should be a narrow edge of the base, sufficient for attaching to the sheet with clamps. On the other hand, the first cut is made with a saw along the base. After that, the edge of the base will exactly coincide with the passage of the circular disc. When working, it is combined with the markings on the sheet, the stop is fixed and the sheet is cut.

Edge stop

This is already a rather complex device that requires time and precision in manufacturing. It allows you to cut parallel to the edge of the material being cut. It will be useful to make a drawing of it before starting work, so as not to overshoot in size. In fact, such an emphasis is included in the set of a circular saw, but its small length does not always ensure an even cut. The large size and the desired strength require the base of the stop to be made of plywood with a thickness of at least 15 mm. You can also make a persistent bar from it.

Stopper manufacturing steps:

  • longitudinal grooves are made at the base for dowels;
  • hardwood dowels are attached to a stop bar;
  • another through groove is made between the longitudinal grooves to secure the stop bar during operation;
  • a hole is cut at the base for the circular saw blade;
  • on the sides of the base, limit strips are placed for installing the circular and clamps are provided for its reliable fastening.

When placing the stop on the material to be processed, the stop bar moves in the grooves of the base to the required distance and is fixed through the through slot with a clamping wing screw. In order not to suffer every time with a ruler, you can fix it (or a piece of tape measure) on the basis of a stop along the guide grooves.

Setting bars

The simplest detail that facilitates the installation of any stop and guide along the marking is a small section bar. It contains cuts, the distance between which is equal to the segment from the end of the saw sole to the saw blade. Two of these bars will help to set any guides quickly and accurately at the required distance from the mowing line. All that remains is to fix the guide.

Blank template

When cutting a large number of identical parts, you can use the first one as a template for cutting subsequent copies. It is only necessary to fix the thrust piece on one side of the first sample with a width corresponding to the distance from the edge of the plate to the cutting disc. By installing such a template on the material to be cut, you can make many of the same parts without marking.

Option 2

Now let’s take the building rule as the basis for the tire. A model with handles that move along the groove is suitable.

  • We remove the handles, instead of them we select soft-fixing clamps with spring handles. There are models with a removable top. they just fit. Having removed it, the clamp is fixed on the rule using an adapter.
  • The adapters will have to be made independently from polypropylene on a milling machine. As a result, you should get details that resemble the letter “T” in section, they are tightly inserted into the groove for the handles.
  • We make holes in the “leg” of the adapters and fasten the clamps onto the screws.
  • The guide is laid on the sheet of material with the groove down and is securely pressed with clamps from below. There is not a single detail on the top that inhibits the operation of the circular saw. There is only one limitation in work. the length of the rule, so you need to take the longest.

Do-it-yourself circular saw blade guide

The cost of a branded guide bar is approaching the price of the circular saw itself. Is this accessory really necessary, what is it used for, is it possible to neglect the tire, replace it or do it yourself?

Do-it-yourself tire

The main task is to make a geometrically accurate product with your own hands, which is not easy. I would like to make a convenient and reliable device, spending a minimum of time.

As a basis, you can fit: a channel, a corner, a rectangular pipe and even a laminate. Wooden and extruded rails have a serious drawback. they are sensitive to moisture.

Option 1

Laminate guide rail. the simplest and most affordable material.

  • Cut off two pieces of laminate of the same length using a ruler (for example, 50 cm each).
  • We mill along one edge.
  • We attach with self-tapping screws to the base, also made of laminate.
  • The width of the groove is checked using a sheet of A4 paper, with a thickness of approximately 0.11 mm: paper is inserted into the device and screwed.
  • The guide is fixed to the sole of the circular saw with your own hands through the mount for the side stop. You can drill a special hole in the case, if you don’t mind and the warranty period has passed.
  • When working with the bar, extend it as far as possible in front of the hand-held circular saw. And the nose of the sole should step on the guide by a few centimeters. Now we take a disk for sawing the laminate and saw off the edges of the guides in place so that they are ideally aligned with the markings;

Such a device eats up the cutting depth a little (by about 1.5 cm), but it is very convenient and easy to do with your own hands.

Purpose of the guide rail

Anyone who has worked with a circular saw knows how difficult it is to get it straight. With all efforts to direct the tool clearly along the markings, it still strives to move to the side. As a result, material wasted and time wasted.

Some craftsmen adapt like this: they attach a bar along a ruler with a pair of clamps. However, with a manual circular, this method is inconvenient. the clamps touch the tool. There are several other reasons for using a guide rail:

  • using the rule, it is necessary to correct its position all the time. It is installed with a small offset from the mowing line of the cut, only then the disc will accurately pass along the mowing line. This method will do for single jobs. If you need to make a lot of precise cuts, the process is dreary;
  • The proprietary circular saw guide is designed so that its edge is precisely aligned with the cutting line. The master only needs to combine these two stripes and work;
  • high-quality tires are additionally glued with soft tape to prevent chipping of material, for example, MDF or laminate;
  • it is inconvenient to saw and monitor the location of the rule at the same time. A little overwhelmed or not enough. and the material is spoiled. When working with the tire, you only need to move the saw forward.

There are many types of guide rails on sale: universal or specialized for a specific model or manufacturer. The price of universal devices, as a rule, is higher than specialized ones. Therefore, many home craftsmen make tires with their own hands.

Option 3

To obtain an accurate cut with a circular saw, one important condition is necessary: the edge of the tool base, which is adjacent to the guide, must be perfectly flat.

Professional units with molded soles have this property by definition. The same cannot be said about inexpensive stamped bases. Therefore, we offer another version of the guide. the rail.

The tool will move along it without resting on the guide rail. At the same time, significantly reducing the effort required to push the hand saw.

An aluminum U-shaped profile is suitable for the rails. Two different sections are required. The smaller profile should fit into the larger one without clearance, but move freely.

Now you can assemble the guide rail with your own hands:

  • We take plywood and attach a larger diameter guide with screws. We grind the heads of the screws and screws to hide them flush.
  • We attach the guide tightly on both sides along the plywood strip 0 and also fasten it to the self-tapping screws. Chipboard can be used instead of plywood.

Saw off excess pieces in width and the rail is ready for use.

Now you need to prepare your hand saw:

  • We insert a small profile into the rail and remove the height of the “legs” so that it fits flush.
  • Fasten the cut profile to the saw blade parallel to the saw blade. For this we use a pair of M4 thumbscrews. If the platform of the circular tool is of good quality and level, you can stick to its edge.
  • We place the hand saw on the guide by inserting the profile into the guide rail, turn on the saw and saw off the extra strip in width.
  • Now, for a perfect cut, you need to put the edge of the bar on the markings and attach the guide with clamps. The main feature of the design is the rail. When using such a tire, the saw moves smoothly, does not dangle, feeds easily and cuts very accurately.

Videos show factory and homemade guide rails:

What it is?

Basically, a guide bar is a rail that allows the hand-held circular saw to slide back and forth without letting the tool deviate from the cut line. But a properly designed guide not only ensures a smooth cut, it also reduces the amount of chipping at the point of contact between the saw and the material.

Homemade guides have different designs and are made from different materials. For instance:

  • plywood guide;
  • rail miter box from the corner;
  • aluminum profile tire;
  • a ruler from a building rule;
  • outrigger carriage on bearings.

The miter box and outrigger carriage are the most difficult to manufacture. A plywood guide or a profile rail is much simpler structurally, but this does not mean at all that the cut made with their help will not be of such high quality. Most of the difference between these varieties is usability.

Required materials

For work, you will need materials that can be found in the construction hypermarket:

  • plywood 18 mm;
  • board 30×70;
  • rail 20×50;
  • T-bolt;
  • profile with a T-slot;
  • clamp foot;
  • channel profile;
  • furniture dowels with M6 bolts;
  • manual adjustment nut.

Circular saw guide making process

As for the size of the proposed design of the guide, it is selected individually for the depth of cut of the existing saw, as well as those blanks that will be processed in the future.

A plywood sheet is used for the manufacture of countertops. Its length can be anything. The width can be made 35 cm, which will be convenient for the vast majority of circulars. Having stepped back 10 cm from the long edge of the plywood, you need to apply a markup to install a profile with a T-slot.
It is desirable that the profile is shorter than the actual length of the table top, which will make it easier to store the machine in the future. The profile must be placed in the groove. It is most convenient to choose it with a hand mill by setting a parallel stop. When working with plywood, it is better to go deeper gradually, making a sample in several passes.

To remove defects on the surface of the countertop, you need to grind the plywood.

The T-slot profile is pressed flush into the resulting slot. It is fixed with self-tapping screws along the entire length.

For a direct guide for the power tool itself, you can find a corner, but often it has the same sides, which is not very convenient. It is much better to buy a channel and cut it lengthwise, getting 2 excellent corners with a low side.

Now you need to make stops for the guide. To do this, take 2 boards with a cross section of 30 mm, the length corresponding to the width of the plywood tabletop. In this case, their length is 35 cm. As for the width of the boards, it should be equal to the actual cutting depth of the circular plus 8 mm. Aligning the boards with each other and placing them on the edge, you need to mark 7 cm from the edge. From this mowing line, the length corresponding to the width of the saw foot is measured. The second mark should be set slightly wider, taking into account the wall thickness of the corner and a gap of 1 mm.

Clamping the boards in a vice, you need to saw down everything along the drawn lines with a hacksaw to a depth of 1 cm, and then select a groove.

Now you need to attach the boards to the table top. To do this, they are first glued, after which they reach out with screws. Note that the second board is fixed at the end of the T-slot profile, not the plywood. Before pasting, you need to envy into the T-bolt profile

On the racks obtained from the boards, you need to fix the corners from the channel directly into the groove, thereby adding rigidity. To make the structure collapsible, it is better not to screw the screws into the wood, but to install the furniture dowel and then use the screw.

circular

You can also move the guide rail so that it can be used for the router. You will need to make a couple more holes and put furniture dowels.

Let’s paint the resulting device.

For the convenience of further storage of the machine in a suspended state, a through hole can be cut on the plywood protruding beyond the working part of the tabletop.

Now you need to put the circular on the runners. It should be turned on and driven from one edge of the tabletop to the other. A slightly protruding disc will make itself a groove of about 2 mm, due to the fact that the grooves of the posts were deepened not by 8 mm, but by 1 cm.

So that when the saw moves, it does not skew and does not slow down, you can attach a furniture corner to its sole by slightly grinding it. This may not be necessary, a lot depends on the type of sole.

Using an already almost ready-made machine, you can make guides for fixing workpieces at an angle. First of all, stops at 45 and 30 degrees are useful. To do this, taking 2 rails, you need to drill a hole in them for a sliding T-bolt.

Having secured one workpiece at an angle of 45 degrees and pressing the manual adjustment nut, you need to cut off the protruding end with a saw. The resulting segment should be glued to the bottom of the back of the plank, creating an additional stop. It will rest against the side end of the tabletop, so in the future it will be possible to fix the guide without a protractor. In the same way, you can prepare special guides for other corners.

On the bolt protruding from the T-shaped guide profile, you can fix the presser foot, guides and other joinery, expanding the capabilities of the resulting machine. The production cost of such equipment is low, while its functionality is sufficient for processing medium-sized workpieces or accurate fast trimming of sawn timber.

Clear saw operation:

The advantages of homemade tires

An important advantage of working with such a device is the ability to process workpieces of any size. You just need to remember about the reliable fixation of the miter tool, as this ensures a high-quality result and guarantees safety.

Homemade guide rail for hand-held circular saw Interskol, Makita, Bosch is functionally no worse than the one made at the factory, but several times cheaper. It is easy to assemble it at home. There are several options for making homemade tires using different starting materials:

  • laminated tire;
  • a tire from a building rule;
  • rail miter box;
  • aluminum profile rail.

The following is a detailed discussion of the manufacturing process of the guide rail for each of the listed options.

DIY circular saw guide rail

Anyone who has worked with a hand-held circular saw at least once knows how difficult it is to make a clear and even cut with it. Many people solve this problem with the help of simple devices, such as a strip of plywood or plastic, which is fixed to the surface with clamps. However, it is much more convenient to use a special guide rail for this purpose.

Outrigger carriage on bearings

To facilitate the work and a better result, you can use a do-it-yourself carriage for circular bearings on bearings. Using the carriage, you will not need to worry about the tightness of the hand pressure of the saw to the workpiece, thereby greatly increasing its permissible width.

To make the carriage, you will need metal plates and a corner. The cutting width is adjusted with wing clamps, which are installed in movable grooves on top of the carriage. The carriage is mounted on an aluminum profile, the configuration of which should ensure the fastening of the C-shaped clamp inside the rails. The foot of the saw joins the carriage on one of its sides.

A tire of this design provides cutting of large-sized workpieces. Thanks to the use of bearings, the feed is easy and smooth. Carried out using a guide bar or hands.

What is the use of stops

A DIY circular saw guide will save the master from many problems when using a complex and dangerous tool. The disc may not always be cut exactly on the marked line and without chipping. Whatever the reason for the marriage. the lack of locksmith skills or experience with a saw, everyone wants a result without spoiled materials. Arguments proving the benefits of homemade devices:

  • It happens that it is enough to attach the plates with clamps, but not always. The saw will touch the clamps.
  • If you need to make a single cut, you can apply a painting rule, but you will have to constantly check it to correct the position.
  • With a proprietary guide, the direction along the mowing line of the cut is set with accuracy, after aligning the strips, they immediately begin the operation. Quality tires have an adhesive tape that protects against chipping. But factory tires are made for limited sizes.

The guide by its name indicates its purpose. to move the saw freely along a given position.

Regardless of what materials the production will be made of:

  • channel;
  • rectangular pipe;
  • laminate. it is necessary to create a geometrically correct structure.

Pressed and wooden stops have a significant drawback:

  • absorb moisture;
  • swell;
  • out of shape.

If a loose stop is placed, uncomfortable conditions are created with simultaneous sawing and control over the position of the staff. You need to monitor the strength of pressing the rule so as not to spoil the basis.

Instruction for production

Different materials for the production of guides require the same attitude. When laminate flooring is used:

  • cut off 2 parts according to dimensional marks;
  • the edge is milled;
  • fixed to the base with a self-tapping screw;
  • measure the groove in width with a sheet of paper, screw it to the device;
  • a tire is attached to the sole of the saw, it will serve as a side stop;
  • the guide is pushed to the maximum so that the sole protrudes onto it;
  • sawn off from the laminate along the edge markings.

The circular can be equipped with an outrigger carriage

DIY guide

Such a device is not difficult to create, but it absorbs the cutting depth.

Limiters are also made from the painting rule. A design with grooves and handles is suitable for this:

  • the handles are removed from the building model to install spring clamps in these places, after removing them, the clamp is fixed on the rule;
  • for adapters, propylene is used, parts are cut out in a special shape to insert into the grooves of the handles;
  • hollow recesses are cut out at the base of the adapter for screwing the screws;
  • place the emphasis on the surface, firmly fix it with a fastening element.

Fixation is carried out to the sheet with grooves located below, so as not to create obstacles for the saw to slide, only the size of the rule can limit the work.

The production of a rail miter box will allow you to cut:

  • boards;
  • bars;
  • small workpieces.
  • metal corner;
  • plank or plywood base;
  • hardware.

Marking is made along the length of the tire with fixation points. For dimensions, conditions must be provided:

  • free movement of the board under the tire;
  • not high arrangement of saw blades.

They fasten the structure with bolts with a parallel arrangement of the corners so that the base of the circular slides freely. This is achieved by sticking fluoroplastic strips, which reduce friction and reduce the force acting on the saw.

Create a device from a finished aluminum profile

circular

Metal lasts much longer than wood products. In addition, it stays stable without distortions. For installation you will need:

  • profile fragment;
  • fasteners;
  • plywood sheet.

As additional tools, you will need preparation:

  • electric drills, drills for metal;
  • wrench;
  • measuring items.

During production:

  • take 2 profiles;
  • aluminum is attached to plywood on both sides for rigidity, chipboard is used;
  • cut off excess.

When combining all the work carried out, the setting is carried out:

  • a profile with a smaller cross section is installed in the rail, the height of which should not absorb the main profile;
  • fix the structure with thumbscrews on the bottom of the circular parallel to the disc circle;
  • the saw should be on top of the guide;
  • the edges of the tire are directed to the line of the marking, fixed.

Such stops provide smooth sliding of the cutting device, create ease of control of the saw.

The simplest fixture can be made from plywood.

For correct production, you need to make markings and strictly follow the dimensions without deviations. For this:

  • measure the gap between the inner edge of the saw and the guide groove in the longitudinal cut, it is located on the support base of the mechanism;
  • cutting the plywood strip along the width less than the measured distance with the arrangement of the fibers on the material in the longitudinal direction;
  • with self-tapping screws, the obtained segment is fastened to the base with the alignment of the ends to form the working edge of the guide;
  • take a vernier caliper to determine the width in the longitudinal cut, the remaining strip should fit here, parallel to the first plate, ensuring a gap between 2 sheets.

A soft cloth is glued to the finished tires to protect the working material from damage.

Guide bar for circular saw

So the guide bar for the circular saw serves as an additional device for making an even, accurate cut.

Sometimes the tool manufacturer sells a set of parts accompanying the main mechanism. If there is no tire, it is not difficult to make it with your own hands from improvised material.

What is the role of the guide

The circular saw bar guides the sliding of the tool along the mowing line of the cut, preventing it from deviating. The correct design of this part determines the smooth cut of the workpieces, the absence of rejects in the places of processing.

An employee, when using a circular, controls the movement process.

To comply with safety regulations, he must:

Technical features of homemade devices

The factory guide for the circular saw does not allow for all production tasks. The manufacturer sets its dimensions, which are often not suitable for the master by the length of the board or other technical characteristics.

Guide production procedure

If a self-made emphasis is placed during work processes, take into account:

  • the size of the workpiece;
  • saw feature;
  • how often the tool is used.

Control over operations:

  • slice lengths;
  • performance and specificity of the application of technology;
  • the width of the grooves;
  • by directions of cuts;
  • density of materials.

The carpenter must correctly evaluate the workpiece in terms of size and material of production.

The correct tire will make it easier to perform precise cuts

How many types of tires does a circular tire have?

The circular saw guide not only serves as a safety feature, it also increases productivity. Devices of different design have been developed, they are:

  • bilateral;
  • unilateral;
  • symmetrical;
  • asymmetrical.

A workpiece with a non-standard shape is processed with a universal device. With such a guide, you can work with a circular and hand saw.

Circular tires

Specialized tires are used when performing professional tasks.

When the crossbars are cut at an angle, a textolite or plywood limitation is made of bars. Before installing the supports, check:

  • reliability of clamps;
  • tire surfaces for deformation;
  • for the conformity of the workpiece materials with the guide.

Thrust rails are made of metal or wood. It is important that they are resistant to mechanical stress. They did not change their shapes and sizes. Products are used for production from:

  • profile;
  • rail;
  • corners;
  • bars.

The structure is attached to the base:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • screws;
  • bolted.

There is another stubborn tool. a ruler.

It is quite simple to make it from a plywood strip. In width, the fragment is taken 20 cm more from the working area. And the base is fixed with fastening hardware. Before work, you need to check with test cuts:

  • tool behavior;
  • vibration;
  • level of physical effort to perform the operation.

Reliable safe execution of actions depends on the mountings:

  • clamps;
  • clamps;
  • movable carriage;
  • retainers.

These elements fix the workpiece in the required position. The installed limiter does not allow the sharp cutting part to deviate from the perpendicular arrangement of the wood fibers.

Preparatory activities

For work, you will need a tool kit with accessories for assembly, cutting a persistent product. You need to prepare:

  • wood blanks for processing;
  • solid wood from bars, dense plywood, laminate boards;
  • fasteners made of screws, self-tapping screws;
  • electrical appliances. circular, jigsaw, drill, screwdriver;
  • clamps.

If manufacturing is carried out in a home carpentry workshop, there should be a primitive furnishings from a table, cabinets, electricity.

Plywood bus operation

In addition to the guide, preparation of the saw for work is required. You need to saw off durable material with dimensions:

  • height exceeding the depth of the groove;
  • equal in width;
  • longer than the sole.

The fastening is carried out with the protrusion of the limitation from under the edges of the sole. To complete the work, you need to take 2 clamps with two flat bars, but larger in thickness than the part prepared for processing. The ends of the bar are mounted on a stopper so that they protrude beyond the table top. In areas of contact with wooden bars, the guide is attached to the base of the table.

On the workpiece to be cut, markings are made along the mowing line of the cut. It is placed under the guide, the direction of the cut and the working edge are combined. A circular saw with a fixed boundary strip is placed on the guide in such a position that the stop on the sole is aligned with the prepared gap. Saw the part slightly guiding the part and press the tool at the same time.

The design has proven in practice the high stability of a quality cut. For production, a metal I-beam is taken, which is attached to the lower plane of the workbench. On the surface, the platform moves on bearings with the lower edges bent into a profile. Free sliding of the outrigger carriage occurs due to the bearings, which, due to tight pressure, relieve the structure of side play. Outreach guide held by the base of the cutting tool.

Parallel corners and pipes are used for the manufacture of tires. When the sole moves, the cut to size is adjusted. Thanks to the support platform, which fits snugly against the workpiece, the stability of the cutting depth is not compromised.

The manufacturer of circular saw tires should take into account the working conditions, where the rules of use must comply with:

  • the mode of use of the saw. the more often the tool is used, the stronger the raw material for the manufacture of the guide must be;
  • processing parameters. you need to make sure that the disc completely cuts the thickness of the workpiece;
  • technical capabilities of the mechanism.

In addition to the guide, a high-quality cut is affected by:

  • the condition of the saw, discs;
  • position of the support platform.

Blunt disc teeth leave chips on the material. Tires significantly expand the functions of the circular saw, but poor tool care negates all the capabilities transferred by the manufacturer.

What is the role of the guide

The circular saw bar guides the sliding of the tool along the mowing line of the cut, preventing it from deviating. The correct design of this part determines the smooth cut of the workpieces, the absence of rejects in the places of processing.

It is quite simple to make it from a plywood strip. In width, the fragment is taken 20 cm more from the working area. And the base is fixed with fastening hardware. Before work, you need to check with test cuts:

  • tool behavior;
  • vibration;
  • level of physical effort to perform the operation.

Reliable safe execution of actions depends on the mountings:

  • clamps;
  • clamps;
  • movable carriage;
  • retainers.

These elements fix the workpiece in the required position. The installed limiter does not allow the sharp cutting part to deviate from the perpendicular arrangement of the wood fibers.

Instruction for production

Different materials for the production of guides require the same attitude. When laminate flooring is used:

  • cut off 2 parts according to dimensional marks;
  • the edge is milled;
  • fixed to the base with a self-tapping screw;
  • measure the groove in width with a sheet of paper, screw it to the device;
  • a tire is attached to the sole of the saw, it will serve as a side stop;
  • the guide is pushed to the maximum so that the sole protrudes onto it;
  • sawn off from the laminate along the edge markings.

The circular can be equipped with an outrigger carriage

DIY guide

Such a device is not difficult to create, but it absorbs the cutting depth.

Limiters are also made from the painting rule. A design with grooves and handles is suitable for this:

  • the handles are removed from the building model to install spring clamps in these places, after removing them, the clamp is fixed on the rule;
  • for adapters, propylene is used, parts are cut out in a special shape to insert into the grooves of the handles;
  • hollow recesses are cut out at the base of the adapter for screwing the screws;
  • place the emphasis on the surface, firmly fix it with a fastening element.

Fixation is carried out to the sheet with grooves located below, so as not to create obstacles for the saw to slide, only the size of the rule can limit the work.

The production of a rail miter box will allow you to cut:

  • boards;
  • bars;
  • small workpieces.
  • metal corner;
  • plank or plywood base;
  • hardware.

Marking is made along the length of the tire with fixation points. For dimensions, conditions must be provided:

  • free movement of the board under the tire;

Metal lasts much longer than wood products. In addition, it stays stable without distortions. For installation you will need:

  • profile fragment;
  • fasteners;
  • plywood sheet.

As additional tools, you will need preparation:

  • electric drills, drills for metal;
  • wrench;
  • measuring items.

During production:

  • take 2 profiles;
  • aluminum is attached to plywood on both sides for rigidity, chipboard is used;
  • cut off excess.

When combining all the work carried out, the setting is carried out:

  • a profile with a smaller cross section is installed in the rail, the height of which should not absorb the main profile;
  • fix the structure with thumbscrews on the bottom of the circular parallel to the disc circle;
  • the saw should be on top of the guide;
  • the edges of the tire are directed to the line of the marking, fixed.

Such stops provide smooth sliding of the cutting device, create ease of control of the saw.

The simplest fixture can be made from plywood.

For correct production, you need to make markings and strictly follow the dimensions without deviations. For this:

  • measure the gap between the inner edge of the saw and the guide groove in the longitudinal cut, it is located on the support base of the mechanism;
  • cutting the plywood strip along the width less than the measured distance with the arrangement of the fibers on the material in the longitudinal direction;
  • with self-tapping screws, the obtained segment is fastened to the base with the alignment of the ends to form the working edge of the guide;
  • take a vernier caliper to determine the width in the longitudinal cut, the remaining strip should fit here, parallel to the first plate, ensuring a gap between 2 sheets.

A soft cloth is glued to the finished tires to protect the working material from damage.

  • the size of the workpiece;
  • saw feature;
  • how often the tool is used.

Control over operations:

  • slice lengths;
  • performance and specificity of the application of technology;
  • the width of the grooves;
  • by directions of cuts;
  • density of materials.

The carpenter must correctly evaluate the workpiece in terms of size and material of production.

The correct tire will make it easier to perform precise cuts

  • channel;
  • rectangular pipe;
  • laminate. it is necessary to create a geometrically correct structure.

Pressed and wooden stops have a significant drawback:

  • absorb moisture;
  • swell;
  • out of shape.

If a loose stop is placed, uncomfortable conditions are created with simultaneous sawing and control over the position of the staff. You need to monitor the strength of pressing the rule so as not to spoil the basis.

Appointment

A person who has dealt with a circular saw knows how difficult it is to ensure a smooth cut. Although you try to direct the tool along the markings, it still strives to wiggle. If this happens, it turns out that the time is wasted and the material is spoiled.

Some get out of the situation by attaching a pair of clamps to the strap along the ruler. But with a hand-held circular saw, this method is inconvenient, because the clamps touch the tool.

Other reasons for using a guide:

  • With a rule, you need to tweak it all the time. The tool is positioned with a small offset from the mowing line to cut, and then the disc follows exactly along the mowing line. This method is suitable for single jobs. Takes a long time when many precise cuts are required.
  • The branded tire is designed in such a way that its edge clearly coincides with the cutting line. It remains only to combine the two stripes and get to work.
  • High-quality tires are additionally glued with soft tape, which prevents chipping of material, MDF or laminate, for example.
  • It is inconvenient to simultaneously saw and monitor the position of the rule. Squeezing or not pressing enough will ruin the material. Guide bar circular saw only requires forward movement of the saw.

Guide bar for circular saw

The proprietary circular saw guide bar costs almost like the saw itself. However, the device is very important. Why? When it is applied, is it possible to do without it, is it possible to replace it with something or make it yourself? The circular saw guide offers certain advantages during work. This article describes these benefits and provides answers to various related questions. The manufacture of a guide rail with your own hands is also considered here.

Making at home

The main thing is to accurately withstand the geometry. The basis can be:

  • channel;
  • pipe with rectangular section;
  • corner;
  • laminate.

A serious disadvantage of wood and compressed tires is moisture sensitivity.

Option 1. Laminate tire.

  • Cut off two pieces of material of the same length along the ruler.
  • We mill one edge.
  • We attach to the base (also made of laminate) with self-tapping screws.
  • We check the width of the groove using an A4 paper sheet with a thickness of about 0.11 mm: the paper is inserted into the device and screwed on.
  • The bar is fixed to the base of the circular saw with a side stop bracket. A hole can be drilled in the housing if the warranty period has expired.
  • The tire extends as far as possible in front of the hand-held circular saw. The nose of the sole should protrude a few centimeters into the guide. With a disc for sawing laminate, we saw off the edges of the guides so that they are aligned with the markings.

This will absorb the cutting depth (about 1.5 cm), but such a device is convenient and easy to manufacture.

Option 2. The building rule serves as the basis. A model with handles that slide along the groove will do.

  • The handles are removed, and instead of them, soft-locking clamps with spring handles are selected. Models with a removable top will do. Having removed the upper part, the clamp is fixed on the rule using an adapter.
  • Adapters are made of polypropylene on a milling machine. The result should be details that resemble the letter “T” in section. They fit tightly into the handle groove.
  • Holes are made in the “leg” of the adapters and screwed onto the screws with clamps.
  • The tire is laid down on the sheet with a groove and is well pressed from below with clamps. There are no parts on top to inhibit the operation of the saw blade. Restrictions in work. just the length of the rule.

Option 3. To obtain an accurate cut, it is necessary that the edge of the tool base adjacent to the guide is perfectly flat. Professional tools with molded soles differ in this, but inexpensive stamped bases are devoid of this property. Therefore, we offer the rails option. The tool moves along it without resting on the guide rail. At the same time, the force required to push the saw is significantly reduced. The rail can be made of an aluminum U-shaped profile. We need two segments with different sections. The smaller profile fits into the larger profile without clearance, but free movement must be ensured.

Now the guide rail can be made with your own hands:

  • A larger diameter rail is attached to plywood No. 3 with screws. The heads of screws and self-tapping screws are ground down so that they can be hidden flush.
  • On both sides of the guide, we tightly attach strips of plywood No. 10 and also fasten them with self-tapping screws. Plywood can be replaced by chipboard.

Extra wide pieces are cut off, and the rail is ready.

We prepare a hand saw:

  • The small profile is inserted into the rail, the height of the “legs” is removed so that the profile fits flush.
  • The cut profile parallel to the saw blade is attached to the sole. For this purpose, a pair of wing screws M 4 are used. If the platform of the circular saw is smooth and of high quality, its edges can be adhered to.
  • The hand saw is placed on the guide by inserting a profile into the guide rail. Turn on the tool and saw off the extra strip in width.

For a perfect cut, the edge of the bar is applied to the marking and the guide is attached with clamps. With the rail, the saw moves smoothly and does not wobble, cuts accurately and easily feeds.

The guide for the “circular” is an extremely useful device, because every craftsman knows how important it is to ensure a smooth cut. The use of a guide when working with a circular saw makes the process convenient and fast.

Guide from a rule, clamps and a piece of polypropylene

Implementing this construct would require:

  • building rule (used for finishing work);
  • fastening clamps (the number is determined by the number of fastening points);
  • pieces of propylene (thickness is selected depending on the thickness of the entire structure).

Guide from a rule, clamps and a piece of polypropylene

The manufacturing procedure is as follows:

  • If the selected rule has handles, they must be dismantled. Clamps will be fixed in their place.
  • Adapters are cut from a piece of dense propylene. The thickness of the adapters must be greater than the groove depth of the rule.
  • The holes remaining from the handles are drilled through together with polypropylene adapters.
  • The resulting structure is fixed to the bar being processed.
  • The finished tire is glued with soft tapes. This avoids the formation of chips of workpieces at the time of the cut.

It will ensure quality work. The use of a ready-made building rule requires periodic adjustments to its location. Attachment should be made close to the cut line. This allows the circular saw blade to follow the intended line of the mowing line.

A straight edge is a simple and straightforward element

This type of tire as a stop ruler is the simplest, easiest to manufacture and use. When making it, it is necessary to remember, no matter how simple the design is, it must ensure reliability and safety. A well-made stop fence can be used for electric jigsaw, hand-held circular saw, simple hand saw. Manufacturing is carried out in the following sequence.

  • Prepare a strip of wood or plywood. The width should exceed the width of the platform of the used circular saw by 20 centimeters.
  • A ruler is made from this strip. The remaining plywood sheet is used to make the base.
  • The finished structure is screwed to the base. For this purpose, wood screws are used.
  • The protruding part of the ruler is carefully cut off. The edges should be milled.

When starting to work with a ready-made tool, it is advisable to carry out several test cuts on secondary wood products. It is necessary to get used to the fact that moving the saw along the length of the ruler, you must apply different forces. Therefore, one should acquire some experience. Then proceed to the fine cut.

Aluminum profile guide rail

The finished aluminum profile is one of the ideal materials for the future design of the guide rail. Using metal instead of wood will create a more durable structure. In addition, the metal structure reliably prevents the entire structure from distortion. To assemble such a tire, you will need:

  • ready-made aluminum profile (it is better if it is U-shaped);
  • fasteners (bolts, screws, washers);
  • a sheet of plywood, you can use the remaining pieces from previous work (the main thing is that they correspond to the design of the future tire).

Aluminum profile guide rail

From the tool you will need: an electric drill with a drill for metal, a wrench of the required size, a measuring tool. The manufacturing sequence is as follows:

  • In the manufacture, two profiles of different sizes are used. First, a larger profile is fixed to a thin plywood blank.
  • Plywood sheets are rigidly fixed on both sides of the aluminum profile. The use of particle board or oriented particle board is allowed. These blanks are attached to wood screws.
  • Excess pieces of workpieces are measured. Cut them off with a circular saw. The resulting structure is called a rail.

After the work done, they begin to prepare the circular saw. The following preparatory operations are carried out:

  • a profile with a smaller section is placed in the rail;
  • in height, it should not exceed the height of the main profile;
  • the profile prepared in this way is attached to the sole of the circular saw. The mount must be strictly parallel to the saw blade. It is produced using special thumbscrews with M4 thread;
  • the circular saw is positioned on the surface of the guide bar;
  • to obtain an even cut, the edge of the guide rail is oriented along the previously made markings and fixed with clamps.

The use of such a guide allows the saw to move smoothly. As a result, it is possible to achieve cutting accuracy, simplicity and ease of feeding the circular saw.

How to use the circular saw guide?

To perform the functions assigned to the bus, the following rules must be followed.

  • Prepare the tool for work (remove existing debris or sawdust from the surface).
  • Check the reliability of the existing fastening system.
  • Check that the selected bar matches the prepared material for cutting with the characteristics of the circular saw.
  • The guide for the circular saw is installed in a pre-prepared place.
  • Attach to base or workpiece.
  • Press the saw firmly against the bar surface.

Using a circular bus

Further actions should be carried out in accordance with the rules for working with a particular saw.

Laminate guide rail

The use of this material is determined by its availability and ease of processing. The manufacturing sequence for a circular saw bar is as follows:

  • Lay out the laminate into two strips of the same length (it will be a guide, the other will be the base). The length is chosen based on the tasks. Then they are neatly cut out.
  • All edges should be carefully milled. This will produce a machined safety edge.
  • Self-tapping screws for wood screw the guide to the base.

Laminate guide rail

For ease of use and safety, the bar should be pulled forward as far as possible on the circular saw. Using a disc designed for sawing laminate, saw off the edges of the guides. Such an action is necessary for accurate alignment with the applied markings. This will slightly reduce the depth of a possible cut, but provides additional convenience in work.

Guide rail functions

Any guide rail: factory-made or made independently, performs a number of important functions;

  • Provides high precision and good cutting quality;
  • Allows to perform not only straight cutting, but also cutting of a given configuration;
  • Allows longitudinal and cross cut;
  • Adjust the length of the cut part.
  • Carry out precise facing of one or several workpieces at the same time.
  • Ensures compliance with the rules of safe handling of such a complex tool.

What are miter saw stops for?

All kinds of additional devices: stops, clamps, fasteners are used to securely fix the workpieces. The miter saw stop helps you make precise cuts across the grain of the wood. The factory stop has one drawback, which significantly reduces the scope of application. The cut cannot be made more than the width set by the manufacturer. This parameter is individual. Sawing boards of wider width requires a rigid fixing of the stop.

Materials and tools for making circular saw attachments

The implementation of your ideas will require a simple set of tools and a small number of non-scarce components:

  • wooden blanks (usually 10mm thick bars or wood materials are used: plywood, wood-based panels, laminate);
  • hardwood bars with a thickness of more than 10 millimeters (it is possible to use thick plywood, various types of wood-based panels, for example, laminate);
  • hardware (screws, screws, bolts, nuts);
  • an electric jigsaw or the circular saw itself;
  • electric or hand drill with a chuck up to 10mm;
  • an electric screwdriver or screwdriver with a set of bits (mostly flat and cross-shaped);
  • clamps.
