How to make a moisture detector with your own hands

Since the design of the moisture detector does not include high.tech elements, it is quite possible to make an air drainage for compressors with your own hands from improvised materials.

Cyclone (vortex) moisture detector

A cyclone.type vagar separator can be made from a liquefied gas cylinder, an unnecessary fire extinguisher or trimming a metal pipe of a suitable diameter. The length of the pipe can be arbitrary.

The device is made in the following order.

  • Drill a hole in the lower part of the case and weld a regular valve. It will serve to drain condensate accumulated in the container. Below is a drawing of a home.made vortex moisture separator, according to which you can make this device from a metal pipe.
  • In the upper part of the case, the output fitting should be welded.
  • A hole is made in the lower part of the pipe (cylinder) (not lower than 150 mm from the bottom) and the input fitting is welded so that the air enters the container along the tangent. Thanks to this, a twist will occur in the container, which contributes to the purification of the flow from pollution.
  • Further, to the body it is necessary to weld 3 legs equipped with heel (for stability).

Homemade adsorption moisture separator

A homemade air drainage is easy to make from a filter for water and silica gel filler for cat toilets.

A small tube of metal or plastic and adhesive gun will also be required.

The air purification filter from condensate is made as follows.

  • Cut the tube of such a length that it enters the lid and takes out to the bottom of the filter.
  • In the tube, it is necessary to drop a few holes through which compressed air will pass from the compressor.
  • At one end of the tube, you need to insert a plug so that when lowering it into silica gel, it does not clog.
  • The upper end of the tube must be inserted into the filter cover and seal the junction with a glue gun.
  • In the upper part of the tube or in the lid, it is necessary to install a grid that will prevent the filler entering the duct.
  • Next, you should fill the silicahele filler into the flask, insert a pipe with a lid into it and tighten well.

Now you can connect the hose from the compressor to the input fitting of the moisture separator, and the hose leading to any pneumatic tool, for example, to the spray gun.
