DIY variator for walk-behind tractor

What can be done from a walk-behind tractor

The use of specialized equipment allows solving a wide range of tasks. However, some owners want to get even more functions from the walk-behind tractor.

Homemade products are constantly inventing something and showing what can be done from a walk-behind tractor. Upgraded adapters turn into mini tractors, you can also create a snowmobile, swamp vehicle, ATV. Replacing the wheels with a caterpillar track, you get a motorized towing vehicle.

These and many other amazing homemade products, ways to create them, drawings, etc., are available at the link: https://specmahina.ru/motoblok/samodelki-iz-motobloka.html

Improvement of the undercarriage

The first thing that users of a walk-behind tractor think about is how to make a cart with a seat for it. The use of equipment in a normal mode with the use of levers involves the application of great physical effort. However, the use of a trailer reduces the stability of the vehicle. This problem can be eliminated by expanding the wheelbase. This is done using extension cords that are attached to the axle shaft with pins or bolts. Having solved the problem with stability, the operator is faced with another question: the unit is poorly controlled. The differential for the walk-behind tractor helps to give it good maneuverability. This device is made by analogy with the nodes of cars. Homemade unblockers for a walk-behind tractor are made using ordinary household tools. a grinder, welding and a grinder.

The light weight of the walk-behind tractor is the reason for poor adhesion of the wheels to the ground. Slipping is common when picking up virgin soil, working on wet ground, or driving on snow. To avoid slippage, weights are attached to the walk-behind tractors.

These devices are categorized as follows:

  • Wheeled. They are discs that are mounted on wheels or hubs. Discs are made monolithic from metal, concrete or hollow filled with sand. The weight of the wheel weights can be 30-70kg.
  • External. They are made of any heavy material (steel, lead, concrete). Attached to the body with hooks or bolts. Some craftsmen weld a frame from a corner to the body. Sandbags, bricks, scrap metal and other heavy objects are placed in it.

You can improve the passability of the walk-behind tractor by installing lugs. The easiest way to make lugs is to make a rim from a strip of metal and weld the blades onto it. The rim diameter should be larger than the rims and smaller than the tires. Fitting the rim is carried out with the tires flat. After the lug is installed, the wheel is inflated.

You can improve the transmission by installing a homemade variator on the engine. The system of belts and discs will allow you to smoothly change the speed of the unit, without jerking and vibration.

Reducing unit noise

Even the most modern and expensive cultivators make a lot of noise during operation, especially at high speeds. This factor greatly tires the operator and can serve as a reason for the deterioration of relations with neighbors. A homemade muffler will help to solve the problem. This is a task that is within the reach of any craftsman with initial skills in handling iron.

variator, walk-behind, tractor

In order to make a muffler for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands, you will need the following tools and materials:
  • roulette;
  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • electric drill;
  • hammer;
  • aluminum clamp;
  • stainless steel 2 mm thick;
  • metal shavings.

Having collected everything you need, you can begin to improve the exhaust system.

This is done in the following sequence:

  • Make 2 tubes of oval section from stainless steel. The diameter of the pipes should differ by 1-1.5 cm. Fasten the pipe joints with a welding machine.
  • In a pipe with a smaller diameter, make the maximum number of holes with a diameter of 8 mm. Wrap it with metal shavings. Coil up the shavings with steel wire.
  • Insert the smaller pipe into the larger one. Fix them in position with steel bars and welding.
  • Attach the muffler to the exhaust pipe and secure with a hose clamp.

The noise level after such an improvement will decrease several times. The service life of a homemade muffler will be at least 5 years. So, being content with little, you can significantly improve the conditions for agricultural and other work using a walk-behind tractor.

DIY Motoblock

The advantage of a homemade walk-behind tractor is its price. If it is assembled with high quality, then its characteristics will not be inferior to the factory ones.

It is necessary to determine which area will be processed by the walk-behind tractor, and what features the soil has. It depends on how much power the engine should be.

The motor will fit from other agricultural equipment (from a chainsaw), but in this case it is necessary to supplement it with a forced cooling system. You also need to create a frame to which the engine, wheels, handle will be attached.

Potato digger for walk-behind tractor

Various types of potato diggers are very popular among farmers. These devices save people from hard manual labor, speeding up the harvesting process several times. The digger for the walk-behind tractor has a very simple design. It can be made from metal that remains after the construction and repair of the house.

To work you will need:

  • Bulgarian;
  • welding machine;
  • electric drill;
  • heavy hammer;
  • anvil;
  • profile steel pipe 20×40 mm;
  • reinforcement 12 mm;
  • tin (preferably stainless);
  • bayonet shovel without handle.

The attachment to the walk-behind tractor is made in suspended or trailed (modular) design. The hanging tool only digs out the tubers, leaving them lying on the surface for subsequent manual harvesting. The modular type potato digger not only extracts the crop from the ground, but also collects it in a mobile container on the chassis.

The digger is made in the following sequence:

  • Drawing up a drawing. The width of the digger should be within 25-30 cm.The angle of attack of the point is taken perpendicular to the opener so that the tool does not burrow into the ground.
  • The reinforcement is cut into pieces of a given length. Using a hammer and anvil, they are given the required bend.
  • A container for tubers is assembled from a profile pipe and sheet metal. The chassis or runners are welded to the container frame. The runners are made from pipes, and the chassis is taken from an old stroller, cart or lawn mower.
  • The holder and reinforcement rods are welded to the shovel. The drawbar is welded to the holder, which is fixed to the assembly container. Connections are made movable by bolts or hinges.
  • Rust and weld build-up are removed. The finished product is treated with an anti-corrosion agent and painted.

Adjustment and adjustment of the digger is carried out using stands and steel ties.

In the kit for the digger, you can immediately make a disc hiller. This tool will be needed when planting tubers after they have been buried in a plow trench. Hillers are made from old lids from pots, shaped pipes and bolts. A trolley is assembled from pipes and small wheels, onto which holders for lids are welded at a certain angle. After sharpening on stone, the discs are mounted on holders.

Homemade variator for a walk-behind tractor

The variator allows you to smoothly change the speed without sudden jerks, saves fuel by transmitting torque. Engines from a walk-behind tractor are often used as a generator to provide electricity to living quarters, local areas, as well as to operate lathes.

A homemade variator can be made in different ways, the easiest is to use a ready-made variator, which can be altered for a specific walk-behind tractor. Another way is to use finished parts from gearboxes and other mechanisms. Also, parts can be made independently, subject to the availability of special equipment (hot stamping is required for discs). Diagrams and videos for creating parts and assembling pulleys are easy to find on the Internet.

You can make a variator from wheel hubs, the main thing is to make a hole diameter suitable for the crankshaft. In addition to pulleys for the variator, a belt is needed, which is one of the most important parts. The belt must be strong and all parts of the variator must be regularly lubricated.

Homemade loader from a walk-behind tractor

A loader from a walk-behind tractor is a necessary thing in the household. Buying a ready-made forklift is very expensive, it is necessary only if there is constant work with the transportation of goods, clearing the area, etc. Mostly forklifts in the household are used to remove snow and transport various goods, so it will be cheaper and more rational to make a forklift with your own hands.

Craftsmen are constantly coming up with new versions of this equipment, so there are many modifications, among which there is a suitable option for everyone. A loader can be assembled from special parts, or you can use what many have in garages. Parts from old cars and motorcycles are suitable.

The walk-behind tractor must be equipped with a powerful engine. The heavier the loads, the more powerful the equipment should be. Even motoblocks with 15 hp motors lift no more than 250 kg. Counterweight is required.

As a basis, you can take the drawings of the fracture mini-tractor. The frame is made of a channel, the fracture unit is a fist from a VAZ, a steering column and shortened axles from any car, a P40 hydraulic valve, a bucket can be made independently, or you can use a ready-made.

What homemade products for a walk-behind tractor can be made with your own hands: amazing inventions and adaptations

Homemade products for a walk-behind tractor are invented and made by almost all owners of this technique. The purpose of these actions is to expand the functionality of the unit with minimal financial investment. In the basic configuration, the cultivator has extremely limited capabilities. Installing various options on it can turn a small car into a full-fledged mini-tractor. Often, homemade devices are in no way inferior to factory-made counterparts. In order to improve the walk-behind tractor with your own hands, a set of tools that are available in every workshop of a country house or summer cottage is quite enough. The materials you need can be found in a junkyard, in a barn or at a scrap metal collection point.

Repair sequence

  • First, check all filters. The state of the air can be assessed “by eye”. If it is covered with dust, straw or bird feathers (and this is not uncommon when working on a subsidiary farm), replace it and try to start the engine again. The fuel filter is checked by running gasoline through it in the opposite direction. If you see a thick, dark slurry, the filter is clogged. Replacement required.
  • Then disassemble and rinse the carburetor with acetone. Evaluate throttle free play. Check the integrity and reliability of the fastening of the elements of the fuel line.
  • Flush the fuel tank and mixture supply valve with clean gasoline.

Before starting the repair of the cultivator, especially related to the disassembly of components, take pictures of the assembled blocks and units. This will facilitate reverse assembly.

After cleaning the carburetor, check the flow of fuel into the cylinder. To do this, press the button of the float chamber, gasoline should appear from its cover. After making sure that the assembly is correct, try starting the engine. The problem is likely to be repaired.

Features of repair of worm gearboxes

The diagram of the device in the illustration:

These types of construction are used on low-power compact-size cultivators. The simplicity of execution and low cost makes this gearbox popular among gardeners. However, not everything is as simple as we would like.

With an increase in the load, the place of articulation of the worm and the gear is intensively worn out. The design feature does not allow you to independently adjust the load, and the teeth very quickly become unusable.

Gears that have been ground or crumbled cannot be restored. They need to be changed.

When operating complex equipment, sooner or later breakdowns occur. It’s good if your walk-behind tractor is under warranty, and the service center has no reason to refuse you a free repair.

And such a situation can arise when you do not know what to pour into the cultivator, and the wrong operating fluids led to a malfunction.

If the operating conditions are not violated, and maintenance is carried out on time, breakdowns occur only due to wear of rubbing parts, or factory defects.

In order not to puzzle over why the cultivator stalls, or how to disassemble the gearbox, we will consider the main malfunctions of this garden assistant. Knowing the design of the unit, you can understand how to repair any of its components.

All breakdowns can be divided into the following groups:

  • Malfunction of the engine fuel system (open or clogged fuel line, clogged carburetor, failure of the fuel pump);
  • Malfunction of electrical equipment (failure of components of the ignition system);
  • Mechanical faults (gearbox, engine piston system, drive axle or power take-off shaft);
  • Clogged filters. air, fuel;
  • Lack of fuel or its low quality (no matter how trite it sounds).

Gearbox check and repair

Transmission failure symptoms:

  • The rotational speed of the working shaft does not correspond to the speed of the engine;
  • The belt on the cultivator burns, or slips under intense load;
  • You haven’t immersed the cutter in the ground yet. and the engine is “bogged down” from the load;
  • The output shaft of the motor rotates while the operating shaft is stationary.

Before inspecting and repairing the gearbox, you need to understand how to disassemble and correctly assemble this complex unit. Special care should be taken with the gear retaining rings and shaft seals. The general diagram of the gearbox is shown in the illustration:

Check the oil level in the housing first. If you cannot answer the question: “What kind of oil is poured into a motor cultivator?”. carefully re-read the instructions.

Special lubricants are used for the moving parts of the gearbox as they work under extreme conditions.

After separating the body halves, carefully inspect the chain and gears for damage. Check chain tension.

In any case, the gearbox should be disassembled (carefully fixing the location of the elements) and all parts should be rinsed in kerosene. Defective or missing parts (e.g. gear teeth) must be replaced.

Assemble the structure carefully. Make sure that all parts mesh with each other and that there are no distortions of the gears. Change the gasket if necessary or mold it from a suitable sealant.

Before installing on the cultivator, rotate the gearbox shafts by hand. Make sure the rotation is even and there is no clanking or grinding noise. Fill the gearbox with new lubricant.

Start the cultivator without attachments. Make sure there is no leakage from the gearbox housing. Then do some simple work with a cutter or other devices. If working capacity is restored, your efforts have paid off, and you will not have to visit the workshop.

Ignition system repair

Signs of a malfunctioning ignition system:

  • With normal fuel supply, the engine will not start. The fuel supply can be checked by removing the spark plug. If it is wet, it means fuel is flowing. Place the connected spark plug on the engine housing and turn the starter vigorously. You should see a spark between the electrodes. If it is not there, look for a malfunction in the chain generator. ignition coil. high-voltage cable;
  • The motor runs intermittently at idle;
  • Can stall at idle.

First, check the condition of the plug. If chips, cracks or other damage to the insulator are visible, the spark plug should be replaced.

Check for carbon deposits on the electrodes and adjust the gap.

Inspect the condition of the high voltage cable and spark plug cap. Very often, from overheating or the ingress of fuel when refueling, the cable is damaged. In this case, the “spark” goes through the insulation to the motor housing, and the mixture does not ignite.

If everything is in order at this stage, the fault may be in the coil or generator. Connect a gauge to the generator terminals and rotate the starter pulley as if you want to start the cultivator.

The reading should be between 12-16 volts. Check the cable from the generator to the breaker. If all components are in good working order, then the ignition coil is out of order. Replace it and engine performance will be restored.

Checking and repairing the fuel system of the cultivator

You can repair the fuel system of the cultivator yourself, while you must adhere to the assembly and disassembly sequence, which read below.
Signs of a malfunctioning fuel system are as follows:

  • The engine will not start;
  • Runs unevenly at idle;
  • The cultivator smokes heavily, or drops of liquid erupt from the muffler;
  • The unit stalls when the load is applied.

Self-repair of a motor cultivator is a rather complicated procedure, but with due diligence, you can easily save on visiting a branded service.

Torus variators

For greater transmission of torque, torus variators are used in comparison with V-belt drives. For them, the disadvantages that exist in V-belt transmissions remain, the effort in both one and the second gear occurs with the help of friction.

The cost of a torus variator is higher than that of a V-belt, this is due to the details of its construction, made of high-strength steel, and a special frictional lubricant is used in its maintenance.

When working on a lathe, very often there is a need for different speeds of rotation of the workpiece. This is because different operations require different speeds. As a result, lathes, and not only, are equipped with whole groups of pulleys. These pulleys, in turn, allow you to change the speed of rotation of the workpieces, transferring the transmission belt to a certain point. There are some disadvantages in this, due to the fact that the machine must be stopped, and so on. Therefore, as a solution to the problem, we suggest you make a homemade variator for the machine.

This is not to say that this option does not have any problems and disadvantages. On the contrary, there are such disadvantages, and the main one is the significant slippage of the belt, in comparison with the V-belt transmission. But, such slippage is a good protection of the motor from jamming of workpieces. In addition, even such a simple method will allow you to change the rotation speed of the workpieces, without turning off the machine, and the rotation speed will be controlled very smoothly.

Well, let’s see how to make such a variator with our own hands. First of all, you need to make wooden cones, while choosing a hard wood. The cones do not have to be made with a machine. They can be made from jigsaw-cut discs. So, you need to cut them at an angle that will be equal to the angle of inclination of the cone. Therefore, to perform such an operation, it is far from necessary to use an electric jigsaw; a manual one is also quite suitable. When all the discs are cut, they need to be assembled into one single cone. So, the disks can be planted with good glue, or knocked down with nails. At the same time, use small nails and note that they need to be hammered evenly so as not to break the center of gravity of the cone later. Thus, be extremely careful.

Sawing workpieces with a jigsaw, according to the angles described above

Now that the cones are ready, they need to be planted on metal rods. over, you need to plant it as deeply and firmly as possible. After you have installed the cone on the rod in the final position, do not forget to fix them with screws.

This is how the cones are fixed

In order for the belt to move freely along the cones and lock in the desired position for us, it is necessary to make a guide on the rollers. In the figure below, you can clearly see the design of the guides, and as rollers you can use wooden spools, on which threads are usually wound.

And this is how the guide on rollers looks like

Also, ordinary ball bearings can be taken as rollers. Even if they are not wide enough, you can install two, three or more bearings, depending on what size they are, and what size the track along which they will move. And of course, you can use fluoroplastic rollers, as shown in the figure, but this option will cost more than others.

After the guide is ready, it will have to move along the cones by moving the nut. In turn, this nut is screwed onto a rotating screw (and freely rotating), or a threaded rod. But, so that the screw cannot move along our cones, two washers are screwed on at the end of it, which are tightened relative to themselves. If using a threaded rod, do this on both sides. You can glue the guide nut with glue, or solder.

Also, you need to make a handle that will rotate the screw. Here, you can do it as your experience tells you, but as an example, we will give a picture with the execution of just such a pen.

In this case, the handle does not need to be soldered. It is enough to clamp it between the nuts, of course, if there is a hole in the center of this plate.

We remind you that the stable and normal operation of the variator will be using a belt with a round section. Therefore, do not miss important details, and start making a homemade variator with imagination, experimenting on this or that solution.

about the machines:

Today, the variator gearbox is very popular, which is primarily due to the simplicity of the design. Nevertheless, in order to repair the variator, you need to have some knowledge and skills. This is due to the fact that this device includes different systems and components, improper use of which can lead to their breakdown. There are no big differences when repairing a Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi or Tayota variator.

Most often, breakdowns of a continuously variable transmission occur as a result of non-observance of the main rules of maintenance and operation:

  • – Violation of the timing of the renewal of the transmission;
  • – Driving in bad road conditions;
  • – Violation of the timing of filter change;
  • – Increased sharp deceleration;
  • – Use of low quality lubricants;
  • – Driving at maximum speed;
  • – Incorrect driving.

In order to protect the CVT from possible malfunctions, the following maintenance should be observed:

  • – Oil renewal every 30,000. 40,000 km and;
  • – Replacement of shaft sensors and stepping motor after 70,000 km of run;
  • – Timely replacement of filter components.

Please note that repairs are more expensive than diagnosing them.

How the variator works

On modern cars, two types of variators are used:

  • V-belt transmission.
  • Torus gear.

The V-belt transmission consists of 2 pulleys, between which a specially made belt is stretched. The first pulley is connected to the engine of the car (driving), the second pulley (driven) is connected to the driving wheels of the car. Sliding pulleys are used, they consist of 2 halves, when they come together, the belt is pushed out, and when they move apart, it falls through. There is a synchronous change in the radii of rotation, with an increase on one pulley, a decrease on the other pulley. This achieves the smoothness of the gear ratio

When the radius of the drive pulley is smaller and the follower has a larger radius, it is a low gear. In the case of a belt rotation along a large radius on the driving pulley and a small one on the driven pulley, this is an overdrive.

Despite its simplicity, the use of a variator in cars began recently, this was facilitated by the invention of a special belt. A simple belt is not suitable for this purpose.

Blade for walk-behind tractor

The dump is a necessary device that is needed at any time of the year. The front knife is used to clean snow, plan the area, dig holes and move bulk materials. Such equipment for the Neva walk-behind tractor is of good quality, but not everyone can afford it. Do-it-yourself dumps require minimal financial investment. By installing the front knife on the Neva walk-behind tractor, you can solve many household tasks. With levers and hydraulics, a homemade shovel can also be used as a loader.

A few words. about oil and filter

I cannot remain silent and speak out about this point in more detail. The oil in the CVT is also a very important component in the operation of the entire device as a whole, like the oil filter itself. Many manufacturers, official dealers can assure you that it is filled here for the entire service life. THIS IS EXTREMELY WRONG!

The oil and filter are consumables and many manufacturers say that they need to be changed every 60,000 km, and in difficult conditions (which are our Russian realities. frost, snow, heat, rain, dirt and traffic jams in megacities) it is worth changing even more often. personally, I would advise after 40,000 km.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DO NOT CHANGE?

The oil wears out and often burns (from high mileage), forming deposits inside, which can clog various channels and filters. The main filter can also become clogged with deposits, metal dust and other “work products”. As a result, the pressure drops from the oil pump to the valve body lines and the cones themselves, which are reduced on the shafts. The variator starts to slip, kick, or even go into emergency mode.

In early November, the X-Arena, a sports and entertainment complex for active and extreme recreation, hosted a presentation of a modernized version of the most popular domestic snowmobile. Taiga Varyag 550 V from.

“Taiga Varyag 550 V” has become even more maneuverable and more comfortable, while retaining all its unique operating parameters and affordability.

The snowmobile “Taiga Varyag 550 V” has a number of additional features, is equipped with modern components, thanks to which its driving and operational qualities have significantly improved. Its appearance is due to the needs of the inhabitants of Central Russia. Their lifestyle puts forward different requirements for technology.

“If in remote regions. in Siberia, the Urals and the North. snowmobiles are used in the overwhelming majority of cases for economic purposes, then in the middle lane. for active leisure. If in the first case a snowmobile is a technique for work, then in the second it is for rest. Snowmobile “Taiga Varyag 550 V” is specially designed for residents of Central Russia who prefer outdoor recreation, value comfort and know how to count money “. introduced the potential owner, the head manager of the marketing and advertising group Innokenty Dik.

“Taiga Varyag 550 V” meets all the requirements for modern snowmobile equipment. He received a front telescopic suspension from a powerful and high-speed Rybinsk snowmobile “Taiga Bars 850”. The stroke increased to 143 mm for a smoother ride and less steering effort. The new rear suspension, whose travel is increased to 277 mm, has a horizontally positioned shock absorber, which gives more energy and smooths out bumps. The 31-millimeter lug on the Magnum caterpillar provides high cross-country ability in deep snow, improved dynamics during acceleration and braking, and stable cornering. The Canadian CVT allows the snowmobile to work smoothly in any modes, to get under way smoothly at lower rpm, to develop high speed without increasing fuel consumption. The mechanical brake is replaced by a hydraulic one, which reduces the effort on the lever, provides ease of control, increases the reliability and safety of the equipment. New high leather-wrapped steering wheel improves the sled’s ergonomics and appearance.

Making two wheel behind tractor part 1

“Taiga Varyag 550 V” is a modern, comfortable, cross-country snowmobile with an optimal set of functions, simple to operate, easy to operate, and affordable. At the same time, the manufacturer emphasizes that the updated model does not compete with the serial “Varyag”, since, in fact, it is its special equipment and is aimed at the local target group. In addition, the 2013 season and the serial “Varyag 550” meets in an updated form. Snowmobiles now have hydraulic brakes, an improved cooling system, and the latest insulating materials in the engine compartment. The new windshield is made of durable polycarbonate. In the event of an impact, the material does not prick, but only bends, retaining its original shape. The lighter trunk has become more spacious due to the transfer of the headlight, and the seat locks are more convenient.

The demonstration performances in drag racing proved that the serial Varyag is in service and that it is not afraid of snow, rain, or impassable slurry. In one of the races, a domestic snowmobile and an imported ATV with the same engine displacement entered the starting line. The track by this time was a solid mud bath. Skeptics did not give the car any chance, but technical-savvy spectators spoke of a larger track-to-surface contact area, the ability to quickly start and accelerate. And they were right. On a straight section of the track, the snowmobile is faster than an ATV, but it is inferior to it in maneuverability when turning, requiring a larger radius. The result of two races 1: 1, the technique has proven its reliability and increased cross-country ability, while maintaining the intrigue in the confrontation with multi-season vehicles.

Every year, competitors are increasingly striving to enter the segment of low-cost snowmobile equipment, so it becomes more and more difficult for a domestic manufacturer to maintain a leading position. However, both “Taiga Varyag 550” and “Taiga Varyag 550 V” have a significant price advantage over comparable models of foreign production. In addition, this year was decisive for Russian Mechanics in terms of the development of the motorcycle business.

“We will seriously develop the summer direction in order to become a full-fledged participant in the quad market. A separate subdivision has been created in the structure of the company, and work on expanding the model line has already begun. The nearest plans are to more than double the lineup. Within two years, “Russian Mechanics” will release at least six new ATVs “. said about the future prospects of the company Innokenty Dik.

To implement the plans, “Russian Mechanics” is waiting for a production update. The technical re-equipment program of the company provides for investments in the amount of 250 million rubles. This will not be just an increase in the number of ATVs produced, but the introduction of new production stages. One of them is our own large-sized plastic molding, which will provide a new quality of performance, a fundamentally different appearance of products.

“The company has one task. to develop. This means that you and I will have something to do in the coming years, ”Innokenty Dik said in the final and invited journalists to test drives of numerous new products.

about the machines:

The CVT gearbox is gaining more and more these days, and there is a fairly simple explanation for this. First of all, it is the simplicity of the design. But, nevertheless, the service and repair of the variator requires certain knowledge and skills. The gearbox consists of various components and systems, which, if used incorrectly, can malfunction and it will be difficult to repair them.

Many variator malfunctions are the result of non-observance of the basic rules of operation and maintenance:

  • non-compliance with the terms of fluid replacement;
  • failure to comply with the deadlines for replacing filters;
  • the use of low quality lubricants;
  • driving errors;
  • driving at top speed;
  • frequent sharp braking;
  • driving on bad roads.

To avoid many troubles with the variator box and then not to repair, adhere to the following simple maintenance rules:

  • every thirty thousand km. mileage change the oil;
  • change the filter elements in time;
  • after seventy thousand km. mileage change the stepper motor and shaft sensors.

Do not forget that diagnostics of the variator is much cheaper than repairing with your own hands, even at a service station.

DIY CVT repair

For a better understanding of the issue, consider what the practical design of the variator consists of:

From the above material, it can be seen that the variator can be considered as a type of automatic transmission and it is not easy to repair it yourself

for this you need to have skills and know its construction:

  • The clutch function on a car with a variator is performed by a clutch package; instead, a torque converter can be used. The clutches are easier to use, they are smaller in size, but the smooth engagement of speeds is better for the torque converter, it lasts longer, its parameters are better at the time of acceleration of the car.
  • Planetary gear drives the vehicle backward.
  • The control system includes: control unit, hydraulic pulley interaction system, sensors. It works according to the principle of collecting data (engine speed, what is the speed of the car, in what position the gas pedal) and determining the best gear ratio for them.
  • The hydraulic pump provides the required pressure in the hydraulic system, as well as lubrication of the variator structural elements. The system maintains a pressure proportional to the torque, when it is greater, the discs are compressed more, the belts do not slip.

On the example of the automatic transmission of a Nissan car

you can consider in more detail the repair of the variator with your own hands. The problem arises when the car moves at a speed of 50-60 km / h, the variator starts to make an unpleasant noise, this is a common disease for this car brand.

Tools needed to repair the variator:

  • Impact screwdriver, not electric, powerful.
  • Clamps 6 pieces.
  • Hammer.
  • Key set 10-14.
  • Prepare a container for small spare parts.

In the process of disassembling the variator, we place all the parts on the working surface in the sequence of their removal, this will help when assembling the device.

Actions performed in order:

  • We unscrew the bolts from the cover of the transfer case, there are 6 of them.
  • Use a screwdriver to catch on the edges of the transfer case and remove it.
  • We see a tapered bearing, which must be removed and placed in a container, in which there are already 6 bolts.
  • Flip the variator.
  • We take out in this position part of its body and shaft.
  • To remove the lid, tap it with a hammer, remove the lid, this is 50% of the work.
  • Gears open, remove them, put them in another container.
  • We unscrew the available pump screws, remove the gear with the pump chain.
  • Access to the oil pump has been opened. We remove carefully, by the tip of the shaft in an upward movement, the pump moves away.
  • The shaft is removed. On the other side of the box, everything is filmed.
  • Turn the variator over again and remove the cover with a screwdriver.
  • Access to the variator assemblies is opened, these are two shafts and a belt. Inspection of nodes is carried out visually from all sides in good lighting.
  • You can tighten the belts with clamps, then remove the pulleys with a belt from the variator housing.
  • On the working surface, remove the pulleys from the belt. The bearing opens, if you pull on its ring, you can feel uneven play, which is the cause of noise.
  • We replace the bearing and reassemble in the reverse order.

Thus, the noise in the automatic transmission was eliminated with our own hands.

it should be noted that all units are washed with gasoline during disassembly, and when elements that require special lubrication are assembled, they must be lubricated.

An old washing machine is a real treasure

If there is a working motor from a washing machine, then this is a very valuable find, since many useful devices can be made from it. The easiest way is to make an excellent emery from the engine from a washing machine for sharpening knives, various tools and drills.

The main problem in the manufacture of the device is the attachment of the sharpening stone to the engine housing itself. In most cases, the whetstone has a hole that does not fit the motor shaft. That is why you need to make a flange that, on the one hand, can be pressed onto the shaft, and on the other hand, it will have a thread, which will allow you to screw in and fix the grinding wheel.

Experienced craftsmen recommend that beginners use old pipe cuttings of 32 mm and no more than 20 cm long as a flange. The other end of the pipe is heated with a soldering iron and slipped onto the shaft. To better hold the pipe, it can be bolted together. After that, take 3 nuts and screw them onto the flange from the thread side to the stop, then put on a washer and, finally, a grinding wheel, then again a washer, secure with a nut. At the end, you can add a locknut.

Hub for walk-behind tractor with differential

The hub for the walk-behind tractor is the main component in the operation of such equipment. It is designed to be attached to the walk-behind tractor of attachments designed for performing agronomic manipulations.

The hub can be used to attach equipment such as pneumatic wheels.

There are two types of hubs:

  • ordinary;
  • differential hub.

It is generally accepted that the differential hub is universal for all types of motoblocks. It makes it possible to simplify the maneuvers of equipment and is suitable for both a cart and a walk-behind tractor. The differential hub consists of a retainer and several bearings. To perform the turning maneuver, you just need to unlock the required lock. The hub with bearings is used for the walk-behind tractor carriage and is universal for all walk-behind tractor units. When using a hub with a differential, you simplify your life and improve the functionality of the walk-behind tractor, thereby prolonging its performance.

Motoblocks with wheels are standardly equipped with these elements, but it is not very convenient to remove them every time if it is necessary to attach attachments. Therefore, it is logical to acquire another pair. This will save you time and reduce wear on key components. Below you can familiarize yourself with a diagram of how to make a hub for a walk-behind tractor.

Hubs for a walk-behind tractor: how to make it yourself?

The need for these devices for a walk-behind tractor is undeniable. Different types of such structural elements are used for motor vehicles. They can be purchased on the motoblock equipment market or made with your own hands. This process is straightforward if you follow the instructions exactly. It is enough just to make a hub for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands using the following drawing.

When making a part by hand, it is best to use the highest quality materials. There is a need for the element to be durable, since a large load falls on it during operation.
