Depending on the chemical composition, lubricants are divided into the following main groups:
Mineral. They are made on the basis of oils obtained from petroleum distillates. They are characterized by high viscosity and require frequent replacement. The material is intended for low power appliances with an air cooling system. Recommended for use in warm weather.
Semi-synthetic. They represent a kind of “golden mean”. They are based on a mixture of mineral and synthetic oils. A similar lubricant can be used in 2T and 4T engines, gardening and other equipment with air and liquid cooling.
Synthetic. They are made on the basis of special synthetic components containing esters. They are characterized by low viscosity and long service life. Can be used all year round, regardless of temperature conditions. Ideal for demanding, demanding applications with constant variable performance.
Any two-stroke oil, due to its 20% solvent composition, mixes well with fuel and has the feature of complete combustion. Their second characteristic feature is the color, which can be green, red or blue. Of course, this does not mean that some lubricant is better, but some worse. This is done solely so that it is convenient for the user to distinguish oil from pure gasoline.
Classification of engine oils:
The required parameters of oils for 2T engines are prescribed in the requirements of API TC JASO FC, API TC JASO FC ISO GD and API TC JASO FC E-GC. The most widely used classification systems are API. Based on this, 2T engine oils are divided into 4 large groups:

How much oil to pour into lawn mower gasoline?

As for the storage of fuel, its period should not exceed 3 months. Over time, gasoline loses its properties, the resin becomes higher and a polymerization process occurs, which adversely affects the combustion chamber. Recommendations for use and storage
The fuel is ready, poured into the fuel tank, the first spurt and the long-awaited start. After the main elements of the system have been thoroughly lubricated, the load can be increased.

Stihl synthetic and mineral oils for chainsaws are sold in bottles or cans of different capacities: from 100 ml to 5 liters. Mineral ones have a lower cost, while semi-synthetic and synthetic ones ensure complete combustion during engine operation, i.E., no carbon deposits and a minimum of toxic compounds in the exhaust.
In addition, synthetic oils retain their properties over a much wider temperature range, and also contain special additives that are useful for engine operation: antioxidant, detergent, preservative, etc.
You can choose an engine oil for your tasks depending on the saw model and the frequency of its use: the oil consumption during the operation of the device is low, and given the shelf life of semi-synthetic and mineral lubricants, there is a risk of simply not having time to use even a liter bottle to the end.
So with a small estimated volume of work, you can not buy a bulk canister, but limit yourself to a bottle. Only Stihl mineral greases do not have an expiration date.
How to breed
Stihl saw fuel mixture is prepared by mixing high-octane gasoline and two-stroke engine oil. The proportion of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw is as follows: if the power of the unit does not exceed 1.5 kW, then the ratio will be 1:40 (i.E. 25 ml of oil per liter of gasoline), and with a power higher than this value. 1:50 (20 ml 1 liter).
Looking at the table of proportions, we will analyze, using the example of two saws of different power, how to mix oil gasoline.
- For the low-power STIHL MS 180 with a 2-stroke engine, the dilution will be 1:40. The volume of the fuel tank is only 0.25 liters. In order to mix fuel and oil for one filling, we need 6.25 ml of oil for 0.25 liters of gasoline.
- For the STIHL MS 660 heavy-duty professional chainsaw, dilute oil and gasoline in a ratio of 1:50. This model has a fuel tank capacity of 0.825 l. In order to understand how much oil to pour for such a volume of gasoline, multiply 0.825 by 20. It turns out that 16.5 ml of engine oil is required.
In practice, of course, it is not necessary to calculate how much of the lubricant will be diluted in the volume of gasoline per filling. Usually, the fuel mixture is diluted in a volume of 1-2 liters, which is enough for several refueling of the chain saw.
You need to dilute gasoline for the Stihl chainsaw in a separate canister, in no case pouring the components into the saw’s gas tank separately. These engines do not have an oil pump and the possibility of installing it, so only ready-made fuel is poured into the tank. There are even special canisters with two necks on sale to make it easier to dilute the mixture, but you can add oil to gasoline for a chainsaw and in an ordinary canister.
It is better to observe the proportions of refueling the chainsaw as accurately as possible: excess oil will create carbon deposits on the spark plugs and pistons and provoke detonation during fuel combustion. This can shorten the engine life. In addition, the user of the saw in this case is forced to inhale the exhaust gases with unburned fractions. At the same time, excess gasoline can damage pistons due to insufficient lubrication.
Some craftsmen, in the absence of special measuring accessories, advise using a plastic bottle: a full cap (from the same bottle) of oil is poured into a half-liter container filled with gasoline. The output is approximately 1:50.
It is better to calculate the amount of mixture for refueling in advance based on the expected amount of work and the declared consumption of this engine. The volume of the tank in most chainsaws is about 0.5 liters, a 2 kW engine will consume about 1.2 liters per hour of operation (for more precise characteristics of the saw, see the instructions). Thus, it makes no sense to prepare a mixture in quantities exceeding 3 fillings in a row.
Before starting the preparation of the mixture, it is recommended to thoroughly clean and dry the neck of the canister and the area around it in order to avoid the ingress of impurities: dust, water, etc. The same is done with the tank before filling the fuel: the lid and neck are cleaned of dust and adhering dirt, so that it does not get into the gas tank, and then into the engine.
The first question that the user faces before starting work is what gasoline to pour into the Stihl chainsaw.
Gasoline for the Stihl chainsaw is filled exclusively with unleaded high-octane gasoline, that is, with an octane number higher than 90. If you fill it with low-octane gasoline, it is fraught with engine overheating, piston seizure and engine failure. Therefore, it is optimal to pour AI-92 or AI-95 gasoline into the chainsaw, but here the question of fuel quality arises.
Poor-quality AI-92 may “fall short” of the declared octane number, and AI-95 often contains many additives that do not bring any benefit to the engine. At the same time, a good 95 can harm the piston system. “burn” it. Thus, some users have found a way out: to fill the chainsaw with AI-92 gasoline mixed with AI-95. This achieves an optimal balance between the octane number and the amount of additives.
Fuel mixture: the proportion of oil and gasoline for the chainsaw
The chainsaw engine is the heart of the tool, so it is very important to use a properly prepared fuel mixture.

Often European manufacturers indicate that it is possible to use A-90 or A-92 gasoline, but in post-Soviet countries the quality of gasoline is inferior to that of Europe, so in our realities it is better to use higher quality gasoline.
As for the proportions of petrol-oil mixture, then everything is simple: you need to follow the instructions for the tool. All manufacturers of chainsaws indicate the required ratio in the instruction manual or in the passport of the tool, in addition, the proportions for refueling the chainsaw may differ depending on the model of the chain saw. As a rule, the proportion of oil and gasoline to a chainsaw of famous manufacturers is a ratio of 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part of oil for, for example, 40 parts of gasoline. Now arithmetic 1 liter of gasoline = 1000 ml of gasoline, divide by 40 and we get 25ml of oil. If you follow the same steps for the ratio 1:50, then we get 20 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. As for budget chainsaws made in China, the situation is slightly different. The ratio of gasoline to chainsaw oil made in China 1:25, that is, divide 1000 ml of gasoline by 25, we get 40 ml of oil. The thing is that in branded chainsaws, a solid assembly and the distance between pistons and cylinders in the engine is much less than that of Chinese chainsaws, therefore, the required amount of oil differs almost twice.
Use a conventional medical syringe with sufficient volume to measure the correct amount of oil.
Another subtlety. First fill the dry gasoline can with gasoline and then oil. The procedure, on the contrary, is fraught with a low quality fuel mixture, because the oil is more dense, it will stick to the bottom of the canister. What a good mixing there is.

Consequences of violation of the ratio
The service life of the motor scooter depends on how accurately you follow the manufacturer’s recommended oil-gasoline ratio. The fact is that the fuel mixture enters the cylinders in the form of gasoline-oil mist. - First, pour gasoline into the canister for preparing the fuel mixture, and then oil.
- To dilute the mixture, first pour only half of the planned volume of gasoline into the container.

- Mix the contents of the dilution container thoroughly. It is best to stir by making circular movements with a tightly closed container. - Add the rest of the gasoline to the mixed mixture and mix thoroughly again.
- You can fill the mowers’ fuel tank with the prepared mixture.
It should be borne in mind that the ready-made fuel mixture should not be stored for more than 14 days, as it loses its properties, stratifies and evaporates, which leads to changes in proportions, and hence a deterioration in trimmer performance.
