How deep does a single axle tractor plow?. 3 Preparatory measures

Cultivation with a walking walking tractor

Cultivation of soil with a power tiller is working the soil by loosening it without overturning the land layers. During this process the technique crumbles and mixes the soil layer without damaging it. Using the no-till method does not affect the fertile layer of soil, so you get a good harvest. Cutters, that is, the working parts of a power tiller, can penetrate to different ground depths. have different depths. This parameter depends on the machine model.

The power and design of the machine allow it to work even with heavy and hard types of soil that are not amenable to conventional treatment. Cutters efficiently destroy weeds in the field.

Choosing a power tiller for plowing

When buying a single-axle tractor for plowing the land, it is necessary to keep in mind the other works that it is able to perform. The power unit not only plows, cultivates and hoes, but also transports cargo, removes trash and snow, and mows the grass. Watering seedbeds and harvesting crops in autumn are also operations that can be done with a power tiller. Some units have a shaft, which is connected to a variety of equipment that can saw and chop wood, pump water, provide power. This is the difference between the power tillers and the cultivators.

There are three types of machines for plowing the land: light, medium and heavy. The products of medium and light class are designed for use in the home. Their weight is within the range 50-100 kg. They are equipped with 4-8 hp engines. с. Most machines have multiple front and rear gears. Heavy class power tillers work on the land of farms. They weigh more than 100 kg and are equipped with an engine of more than 8 liters. с.

The choice of plowing helper depends on the number of functions it performs, the size of the area, and the type of soil. The denser the soil, the heavier and more powerful the machine will need to plow the land. It needs to be picked up from 95 kg. The best products are equipped with diesel engines. They have high tractive power, high lifespan, and use less fuel. But when the ambient temperature drops to 2˚C and below, the engine is more difficult to start.

For the area to be cultivated up to 15 hectares you need a single-axle tractor with the working width of 70-80 cm and an engine capacity of 3-4 liters. с. For 15-40 acres is suitable unit with a working width of up to 90 cm and a capacity of 7 liters. с. If the area of the plot is more than 40 acres and up to 1 hectare, it can be tilled by a machine with an engine more than 9 liters. с. and a working width of 1 m.

It is possible to buy a large set of equipment together with the basic power tiller. But it is better to choose the necessary devices: lawn mower, motor pump, snow thrower, potato remover. For snow removal, purchase the product with a gasoline engine. You need wheels with a diameter of 45 cm or more for carrying loads. It is good if there are height-adjustable handles.

The most expensive part of a power tiller is the engine. Domestic units are equipped with imported motors. Saving money on engines leads to frequent repairs that are more expensive than the engine. Quality engines are produced by companies:

All engines available are of two- and four-stroke type. The latter have proven to be reliable and economical. When selecting the engine, a disc clutch and serviceable gearbox are to be preferred. These products are the most functional and reliable. It is better to choose gearboxes. Worm gear systems often overheat during operation and require stopping the unit every 20 minutes.

These machines are suitable for farming and small household plots.

  • Caiman (France) with Robin-Subaru 6-liter engine. с. Has gears: forward 2, reverse 1. Ploughing depth. 32 cm, width. 90 cm.
  • Neva and Cascade are produced by domestic manufacturers and are equipped with an American engine Briggs Stratton.
  • Centaur (China) with 7 liter gasoline engine. с. Plows at a depth of 30 cm, width of the pass is 100 cm.

These machines are equipped with high-quality American or Japanese diesel engines, have a gear reducer and a disc clutch. 4 forward and 2 reverse gears allow for work with various attachments, cargo transportation.

Preparing the power tiller for plowing

Before you start plowing, you need to properly prepare your equipment. Firstly, you need to set the depth and width of plowing furrow. Optimal variants are considered: width. up to 60 cm, depth. up to 15 cm. If the soil is hard, you can increase the depth to 20-25 cm. The final quality of the work depends on the right setting. The stages of preparing the equipment also include the installation of soil hooks, attachment and adjustment of the plow.

Installing the soil hooks

Soil hitches are special wheels on a singleaxle tractor for plowing. Their diameter is usually 50 cm, width. 18 cm. If a smaller size is chosen, the machine will “wobble” on both sides and you will not get an even furrow. It is required to position the single-axle tractor itself on a level surface, remove the main wheels and set in their place prepared with axles hitches. Only after that do we move on to mounting the plough.

Hitching and adjusting plough

Various types of couplings are used for coupling. First connect the plow itself and hitches. It is attached by one side, the backlash on the horizontal plane should be about 5-6 degrees. There are a few things to remember. If both sides (pins) are used, or if there is no backlash, the connection is too rigid, and this is a typical mistake.

The plow is then attached to the hitch of the machinery. The nuts should not be screwed in tight. adjustment is still needed. It is better to do it with a helper. the single-axle tractor is placed on supports of about 25 cm (they can be made from natural materials).

The soil hooks are secured, the single axle tractor must stand level, without being out of balance, this is necessary for quality ploughing. The plough bed is positioned so that the heel is parallel to the ground, the adjustment is done by means of bolts. After the stands are removed, and the plough blade is lowered to the soil level, the back part of it should be higher by about 2.5 cm.

Starting the power tiller

Many owners have no idea how to start the engine correctly. Most people do not even touch the instructions. But mistakes can be made that will lead to a breakdown of the entire device, and repairs are often expensive.

First check the oil and fuel level. Two-stroke engines should be filled with gasoline, diluted with oil, the necessary proportions are given in the description to the device. Gasoline is used brands A-92 and A-95. For diesel engines, fueled with diesel fuel, consider the temperature outside, and use it as a guide when choosing fuel.

Before the start itself, the clutch, reverse, throttle, rudder are checked. The choke lever is set in “Start” position, make about 5 starter movements. After switching on the ignition, start the engine, move the choke lever to the “Work” position. The next step is to cultivate the land with a power tiller.

Important notes

Plowing with the power tiller is vertical, when it begins to deflect, the farmer uses his own forces to redirect it in the right direction and subsequently monitor the correct movement of the tool. To make the task easier, loosen the nuts in the adjustment slot and tighten them again when finished.

Often the engine blocks are used for dipping potatoes, and for this purpose they hook other attached equipment. an ocular. It undercuts the ground to the same depth as a plow. There are two types: regular and disc. convenient to use. disc-shaped, but it is significantly more expensive.

The single-axle tractor is known as a handy tool for harvesting. Instead of a hoe or plow, there is a tool attached that is a mixture of weeder tines and gratings. Its work consists in the fact that it lifts the ground, picks up the root crops and pours the soil back out so that the harvested crops remain on the surface.

How to properly plow with a power tiller: plowing the land, working with different attachments

The multifunction power tiller helps you do a wide range of work in the field, in the country or in the garden. Together with the device use different types of attachments, which help to quickly and efficiently carry out the processing of arable land and virgin lands. The most common and best tillage unit is the plough. Instructions on how to prepare it for work and how to plow it correctly are described in our article.

The main working elements of the tool are the metal ploughshare and mouldboard. The plough blade ploughs, it undercuts the top layers of soil and directs them to the mouldboard. The mouldboard turns the soil lifted by the ploughshare, crumbles it and throws it into the furrow. This process deeply loosens the soil, so that it becomes oxygenated and gets rid of weeds.

The figure (diagram) shows how the plow looks like a plow designed to plow with a cultivator, power tiller in the vegetable garden. Different models of ploughing tools may have some differences between each other, but for the most part all of them are designed like this.

Before you start to plow land with a cultivator, power tiller, you assemble a detachable plow. This is done by attaching two bolts to the tool carrier. The assembled unit should be attached to the bracket of the cultivator, slightly fixed and then make adjustments according to the parameters:

To adjust it to the required tilling depth roll the machine out onto 12-20 cm high supports and set it as evenly as possible, so that the board is in full contact with the ground and the stand is perpendicular to it. Adjust the mounted plough to the position required for ploughing, and then secure it with the adjusting screw and locknut.

To adjust the angle of the mouldboard tilt the cultivator is tilted to the side. For this purpose, the support is removed from under the right wheel (or tines), leaving only under the left wheel. Loosen the nuts on the hitch and slowly turn the plough to the optimal position for ploughing.

Changing the angle of heel tilt (field board) is done by turning the adjusting screw of the cultivator’s hitch. If you want to increase the height of the heel in relation to the share, turn the screw clockwise and vice versa. When adjusting, make sure that the distance does not exceed 3 cm, otherwise the nose of the plough when plowing in the garden will start to dig deep into the ground and reduce the traction force of the cultivator, but also of the power tiller or tractor. After adjustment is complete, all nuts are tightened well with a wrench. For a more detailed look at the process of setting up a plow for plowing with power tillers Salyut, Neva and others, see the video.

After making the above adjustments, the plow is completely ready for use, you have been able to set it up, and you can try plowing in the vegetable garden. Before ploughing begins thoroughly, especially in virgin land, do the test plowing and assess whether the plough is adjusted correctly, what is the furrow penetration and quality of mouldboard. How to correctly plow with a cultivator is well shown on the video on the example of Neva motoblock. Also you can watch the video of how the heavy single axle tractor Zirka behaves when plowing the virgin land, notice how the plow is deepened.

If the plough is adjusted correctly the machine moves evenly without jerks during plowing, without burying the “nose” of the share deep into the soil. The furrows from under the moldboard are obtained even and do not go “overlapping” with each other when plowing. If the land is hard, plowing is done in two passes. During the first plowing it is set to a given shallow depth, during the second plowing it is set to a greater depth. The same way you should plow virgin land. For the cultivation of small areas, mainly use a cultivator and ploughing cutter. Medium-sized plots are also cultivated with a cultivator, but with the use of a stubble cultivator or a light plough, and heavy and virgin land. with a powerful motor cultivator (for example, Neva) and a mounted plough. You can develop your own technique for setting up a plow that suits your power tiller. Hitching a plow to a single axle tractor is easy.

Rules for plowing land with a power tiller

Technologically this process is not complicated, but it requires compliance with generally accepted rules, which ensures maximum efficiency of the process and quality of the result.

To begin with the machine set on the edge of the field, the gear is set to maximum, and thus the single-axle tractor is moved forward from itself towards the opposite edge of the plot, holding it by the handles. At the end a U-turn is made at 1800 and a similar pass is made

It is important to note that each additional ridge should be positioned no more than 10 cm behind the previous one. This can easily be done by centring the right rear tip in the middle of the next furrow. At the beginning it is recommended to go at low speed, controlling on the first part of the line flatness, perpendicularity of the plough position to the ground and depth of the result

If any of these parameters are not as expected, work must be interrupted and the plough must be readjusted accordingly. Ideally it should not move jerkily, nor should the coulter tip dig deep into the soil. Then the speed can be increased.

It is advisable to shallow hard soil and virgin land at least twice: first at a shallower depth and then at a greater depth.

Correct land ploughing with a power tiller

Before plowing, the wheels with a diameter of 50-60 cm and a width of 18-20 cm are hinged. It is important to maintain these parameters. if the wheels are too narrow, the tool is likely to wobble from side to side. Insufficiently large diameter will result in a small clearance between the ground and the gearbox. If the rim is solid, it is more likely that the soil will collect in the ribs.

You need a partner to attach the equipment. He will help you to lift the machine and put it on a support, on the recommended height of 15-20 cm. The share’s edge must touch the ground. The plough leg is positioned vertically and the ridge is set horizontally. Set the right-hand edge in line with the inside edge of the right wheel. This allows the machine to cut the ground evenly, roll off easily and run smoothly. Before setting up and operating the machine check the Operator’s Manual of the machine manufacturer.

Soil preparation

A cord is stretched along the ground, which serves as a guide for further movement. It is usually set on the first row. These rules help inexperienced plowers keep their bearings, as the plow is pulled to the side. On the second row, the cord is removed. As a rule, a person who has done this kind of work before has no problem keeping the right distances and makes all the rows straight.

Working with the land

After the preliminary preparation the plowing begins. For less unnecessary movement, the single-axle tractor goes along the side that is larger. This allows fewer turns, which saves both the effort of the worker and the time it takes to redefine the direction of the block. The handle turns to the left for easy movement on unplowed ground. It’s important to keep a moderate block pace to keep the motor from getting hot. In case of overheating, work is suspended until the unit cools down. It is also not advisable to push the plough.

Each field is unique and has a different ground hardness. The normal ground quality is considered to be friability, when the ground is easily penetrated by a metal stick to a depth of 50 cm. Hard soil makes it difficult for the plough to move and negatively affects the serviceability and further operation of the tool. In this case the ground is moistened with ordinary water or special solutions, and the plot is plowed twice. The first one is preparatory, and the second one is used for plowing to the full depth. In some cases it is necessary to consolidate the result and go a third time.

Preparing your Moto-Block for plowing

Before plowing a plot of land, you need to prepare your power tiller. What to do? Let’s look at it one by one.

It is desirable to bring a single-axle tractor to the plowing site without a plough and trailing shoes. Usually, uncompleted single-axle tractor is transported in a car to the country site. If you have a plot of land next to your home, you can prepare your power tiller for ploughing on any chosen flat spot.

When the singleaxle tractor is brought to the place where it is prepared for work, the transport wheels (B) must be replaced with special shoes. To make it easier to remove the transport wheels, a stand (A) can be placed under the tractor hitch at the back of the tractor.

Use extra-long hubs (A) instead of the hubs on which the unit transport wheels are mounted. This is necessary to increase the distance between the cleats to ensure the stability of the walking tractor while plowing.

Once the hubs are in place, proceed to install the grousers (A). Make sure you pay attention to correct installation. The herringbone-shaped tread (B) should point in the direction shown in the photo. the tread taper is the forward direction.

When both cleats are in place, you can remove the plow stand (A) and begin the next step, preparing the plow for work.

Potato processing

Weeding

A week after planting, it is worth loosening the soil. During this time a heavy crust has formed on the ground that prevents the plant’s stems from sprouting and oxygen from reaching the ground. Weeding is done on a weekly basis. This helps to combat weeds that negatively affect the root crop.

Trailed harvesters are agricultural machines used for harvesting grain and leguminous crops. The trailed combine harvester is reliable, high quality and productive.

Snow ploughs are ideal for countryside owners, because they can clear snow with their own two hands. Follow this link to see the different models and characteristics of the Lynx snowthrower.

The tracked and wheeled Challenger tractors are used to work in difficult terrain over large areas. The Challenger tractor is a reliable and smart helper.

A rotary or reticulated harrow, tines and weeder are used for weeding.

Ducking

Sprouts appear in 3-4 weeks. Now, after planting, the potatoes need to be dipped. A single-axle tractor will help. For hilling, a one-, two- or three-row hoe is good. If you want to fertilise, you can also fit an auxiliary nozzle.

Harvesting the potatoes

a single-axle tractor is used not only for planting, but also for harvesting. By autumn, the potato tops dry out, and everything is ready for harvesting. Digging the potatoes should be in August. September, in dry weather. For digging with a power tiller a hinged plough or a potato digger is used.

But you can do with a single-row hoe, which will lift the soil and the potatoes will lie on the edge of the ridge. Walk through and harvest the potatoes. Planting and cultivating potatoes with a walking tractor is not all of its applications. Technical innovations have made the life of gardeners much easier.
