Analysis of the above data allows us to note 3 interesting features. Firstly, the Husqvarna 142 has about 20% less power than the average saw power of professional saws for a household chainsaw. Secondly, its cutting headset is standard for Husqvarna and, if necessary, will not lead to a long search or wait. Thirdly, the manufacturer focuses on the undemanding quality of gasoline, without indicating the minimum allowable octane rating. Therefore, the conclusion at the first step of the review is as follows: the characteristics of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw are suitable not only for work in the country, but also for semi-professional use.

User’s manual

This is the only lifesaver in many situations, so in our reviews it is never ignored. It does not look intimidating: only 32 pages, two blank of which are intended for personal notes. There are no traces of translation by electronic systems, but in two places there are phrases that hurt the eyes a bit, for example, “the spark plug does not light.”

Almost a third of the instructions are devoted to safety when working with the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw. I was pleasantly surprised by the description of the methods of working not only with trees, but also with knots: detailed schemes for safely creating cuts are presented. The influence of the shape of the end of the tire on the probability of a rebound is very clearly explained.

Characteristics 142 Husqvarna is fully represented with a slight reservation. Only one model of Champion spark plugs used is specified. But nowhere is it written explicitly that it is strictly forbidden to use any other models due to design features. As a rule, manufacturers either indicate several suitable models or describe in detail the characteristics of the required candles. Therefore, the description section of the ignition system could be more informative. This remark is not important, since experienced owners can use specialized catalogs of manufacturers and in most cases choose an analog of any candle.

The assembly procedure of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is described in detail with drawing explanations.

Special attention is paid to the independent correction of minor problems that occur during operation. How to troubleshoot in which the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw does not start or starts and stalls is described in great detail. But the section in which the carburetor setting is described could be more informative. In particular, to adjust the quality of the mixture it is indicated what to twist, but the criterion for completing the adjustment is not clearly stated.

In general, the manual for the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is convenient and contains a minimum of necessary knowledge for operation and repair.

Governing bodies

Here at Husqvarne 142 is a classic minimum. They are represented by a switch adopting the On or Off position, the air damper position lever, which can be in one of three positions, and the combined throttle valve position control lever with a stopper. Here, only the “suction” needs clarification. Between the fixed positions of the open and closed damper there is a third stable position corresponding to the half-open damper of the chainsaw carburetor. It is used when starting a cold engine after several jerks with a starter with a closed shutter. Husqvarna 142 has no primer. The primary pumping of fuel is carried out using the starter handle. Well, the fewer nodes, the less damage!

Husqvarna 142 in use

The fuel mixture was prepared by us on the basis of AI 92 gasoline and Husqvarna HP branded two-stroke oil in a ratio of 50 to 1. It is interesting to note here that if there is no oil at hand added in the indicated ratio, the manufacturer allows short-term use of high-quality oil diluted with gasoline in the ratio 33 to 1.

We exploited Husqvarna 142 for about an hour. It fits perfectly as a household chainsaw: almost complete absence of vibrations in the hands, quite tolerable noise level and, most importantly, excellent cutting abilities. Trunks of fresh pine and dry birch with a diameter of 26 cm were repeatedly sawn for an average of 7 s each. Dry oak yielded a little slower; it took about 14 seconds to cut logs with a diameter of 24 cm. The saw speeds are slightly lower than the professional chainsaws that we tested, but these are already saws of a different order of value. Husqvarna 142 is not afraid of working at full power, high speeds are even recommended by the instruction. The brake works perfectly. The chain stops instantly.

Adjustment options

For the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw, fuel tuning and chain tension adjustment are available. As with most chainsaws, tension is carried out using the adjusting screw; termination criterion. The chain does not sag and, at the same time, easily walks along the bus. Carburetor adjustment is required when weather conditions and fuel quality change. Symptoms for which it is necessary are as follows: the chain spins at idle, the chainsaw stalls when the gas is pressed, does not develop revolutions, and significantly reduces revolutions during cutting. If you have a need to adjust the chainsaw, we recommend reading our article on how to adjust the Husqvarna carburetor which details all the nuances of adjusting the Husqvarna saws, as well as check out this

Do not tighten the adjusting screws outside the adjusting heads. If this is not observed, carburetor repair may be required.

DIY troubleshooting

Faults are simple if they are not required to disassemble the chainsaw. For Huskvarna 142, the methods for finding them, as well as eliminating them, are no different: they all come down to checking the condition of the spark plug, fuel level in the tank, etc.

In the event of easily fixed malfunctions, it is necessary to remove individual units, replace or repair them, and then assemble the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw. This is how shock absorbers or carburettors are replaced and the starter is repaired. To fix the starter, it is better to first familiarize yourself with its device, for example, from the.

If the chain is not lubricated, we recommend that you watch a in which the lubrication system, its disassembly and assembly are discussed in detail.

If complex faults arise, complete disassembly is necessary. The device of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is not complicated, but you must be sure that you can:

  • Get the drawings of the device with a description and the strength you detail;
  • Perform troubleshooting and reassembly.
