How To Clean Trimmer Spark Plug

Checking the engine spark plugs

The spark plug electrodes must be clean and sharp so that the spark is powerful enough to ignite the fuel. The more the spark plugs are worn out or dirty, the more voltage and the greater the force on the starter is required to create a powerful spark.

If you have not recently adjusted the engine, your mower does not start and (or) you have to scroll the starter several times to start the engine, the cause may be a damaged spark plug. These problems can also lead to excessive fuel consumption, deposits on the cylinder head and oil dilution.

Fortunately, spark plugs are one of the elements of the engine that is easiest to repair and inexpensively replace.

When to check replace spark plugs

When servicing a standard lawnmower engine and a small engine, you must check and / or replace the spark plugs:

  • Once a season;
  • Every 25 hours of use;
  • If your lawn mower or outdoor power equipment does not start.

How to check for dirty or damaged spark plugs

  • Stage 1: Disconnect the spark plug wire. Then clean the area around the spark plug to prevent debris from entering the combustion chamber when you remove the spark plug.
  • Stage 2: Remove the spark plug with the spark plug key.
  • Stage 3: Clean off light deposits from a candle with a wire brush and a candle cleaning spray. You can get detailed cleaning instructions below.
  • Stage 4: Inspect the spark plug for very hard deposits or for cracked porcelain or electrodes that have been burned. If any of these conditions exist, replace the spark plug.
  • Stage 5: Check the spark plug clearance and adjust if necessary.
  • Stage 6: If the spark plug appears to work, replace it, taking care not to over tighten it (MAXIMUM 15 ft-lb) and reconnect the spark plug wire.
  • Stage 7: Engine starting

If the engine tries to crank (even for a second) and then stalls, then there is a spark. This indicates that the problem is probably in something else (fuel, carburetor, valves, etc.). If the engine does not spin at all, the problem may be with the ignition system. The first thing to do is replace the spark plug.

How to clean heavy soot on spark plugs

In order to safely clean the spark plug, you must use a wire brush or cleaning spray specifically designed for this part of the ignition system. You can also use a sturdy knife to clean hard to remove deposits.

Note. Never clean the spark plug with a shot blasting machine or abrasive materials.

Replacing spark plugs in lawn mowers, snow blowers equipment

If the spark plug does not pass the above test, you need to replace it. This is one of the easiest steps when servicing a lawnmower or small engine.

For pre-season adjustment and storage at the end of the season, consider the Briggs small-volume engine tuning kit Stratton, which contains everything you need, including parts (spark plugs, oil filter, air filter) and fluids (oil, fuel stabilizer, etc.) for your engine.

  1. Find the correct spark plug (s) adjust the clearance.
  2. Disconnect the candle wire and remove the candle with the candle key.
  3. Replace it with a new spark plug, being careful not to overtighten (MAX 15 ft-lb) and reconnect the spark plug wire.

What is the soot on the spark plugs and how to make a simple cleaning of the spark plugs of the car, this article will tell. Formally, car candles are consumables.

Then what’s the point of courting them? But the experience of generations of motorists noted that the performance of the engine, its power and gluttony depend on the condition of the candles.

A driver who is more or less delving into the work of his four-wheeled assistant will undoubtedly spend part of his time examining the candles when servicing the car, and if necessary, caring for them.

To analyze the performance of a candle, there is no need to resort to testing it on sophisticated equipment. The appearance of the electrodes and the thermal cone of the insulator can already tell a lot to an experienced driver.

Nagar on spark plugs. What will it tell?

1. If a black soot forms on the cone of a candle, this means that the candle is too “cold” for the engine. But this effect can cause an increased level of oil in the crankcase, as well as wear on the piston rings and cylinders.

2. Dry soot of the same black color indicates a lack of loads for the engine, or is it still “cold” candles for the model of your engine.

3. If the candle comes to your attention with a dry, clean cone of white or light color, which often has signs of fusion, this means that either the candle is too “hot” or the ignition controls contribute to the early ignition of the combustible mixture.

A normally working candle can withstand 25-35 thousand kilometers. If the operation of the engine occurs in intensive mode (you wind more than 15 thousand kilometers on your car per year), it is recommended to regularly clean the candles and adjust the clearance.

If the mode of your car is more gentle and does not exceed the specified annual mileage, then candle service can be limited to two times a year. As a rule, they coincide with the seasonal maintenance of your car when changing the autumn-winter cycle of operation for the spring-summer and vice versa.

How to clean spark plugs yourself

Do not use sharp metal objects to clean the candles. Set the awl, screwdriver and knives aside. A scratched insulator of a candle will quickly become covered with soot, and it will clog the electrodes, rendering the candle unusable.

For this event, a brush with thin steel hairs, small plastic and wooden plates are suitable, but the chemical method of cleaning candles is the best way.

Cleaning procedure chemically, we begin by degreasing the candles. To do this, wash it in gasoline and dry it. At the next stage, we immerse the candles in a solution of ammonium acetate (also known as ammonium acetate) of 20 percent concentration. Aging is carried out for half an hour with a non-intense boil.

You can not bring to a boil, but how then to make sure that the temperature of the liquid does not drop beyond the 90 degree mark on the Celsius scale. We clean the cooked candles with a nylon brush (you can use any other, but stiff) brush, rinse thoroughly with hot water and dry.

To carry out these operations, you need a well-ventilated room or you need to carry them out on the street. Do not breathe in pairs of acetic acid released during the boiling of a solution of ammonium acetate.

Gently bending the side electrode, we achieve the desired size. To measure the current gap, use a cylindrical probe. The wear of a candle leads to the appearance of a recess in the side electrode, which is difficult to determine with a flat probe. As a result of such a measurement, an erroneous result can be obtained that does not correspond to the actual value of the gap.
