How To Cut A Csp Slab

Important properties

In essence, a cement-bonded particleboard is a hardened cement mortar in which chips are used as a reinforcing substance. That is, the material is harmless in terms of environmental friendliness. It can be cut with different tools. A hacksaw is difficult and slow, a jigsaw needs a special file for concrete, but an angle grinder (angle grinder) is cut quickly, but the process is very dusty. If necessary, it is well milled.

What thickness of DSP to put on the floor: manufacturer’s recommendations

DSP board is not affected by fungi and insects. It can be glued with wood, metals and polymers (plastic). If necessary, you can lay two layers one on top of the other. If you want a monolith, use a cement-based tile adhesive.

Low flammability is one of the important aspects. Not fireclay brick, of course, but when exposed to high temperatures it slowly charred, then crumbles.

How to fasten and the step of installing fasteners

DSP can be fastened with nails or self-tapping screws (self-tapping screws). The selection of fasteners depends on the thickness of the board. The length of the nail or self-tapping screw must be at least three times the thickness of the board. For example, fix a 16 mm board. Screw or nail length 48 mm or more (16 mm 3 = 48 mm).

With what step to fix the DSP

  • Along the perimeter of the sheet;
  • Along cross beams.

Along the perimeter of the sheet, screws or nails are placed backing some distance from the edge. This distance, as well as the installation step, depends on the thickness of the sheet. All data are shown in the table above. These are the maximum distances allowed. For the floor, this is not as critical as for installation on vertical surfaces, but, anyway, it is possible to install fasteners less often, it is no longer desirable.

Application area

If we talk about the advantages of DSP, first of all it is worth mentioning the incombustibility of the material. It is non-flammable and does not support combustion. The second positive point is the absence of synthetic components that emit styrene and formaldehyde. This explains the popularity of this material in frame housing construction. Even despite the solid weight of the slabs, they are used for the cladding of the first and second floors.

Scope of CBPB boards walls, ceiling, floor, formwork

DSP board for the floor is also used. But it should be said that the material has an unstable geometry. This is explained by technological features. So it’s difficult to get a perfectly flat surface without steps between the sheets.

Second point. DSP boards are plastic. In the sense that if they are laid on an uneven surface, over time they will take the shape of the surface. On the one hand, this is good where some sheet materials on uneven floors can break, the DSP will simply repeat the shape. On the other hand, even a thick sheet will not sag over time on logs with a long distance. On a subfloor or other substrate with minimal gaps, it can be used without problems.

Cement particle board (DSP) application for the floor

The floor in the house and apartment should be flat and warm. This can be achieved by pouring the screed, but it is easier to lay sheet material with suitable characteristics over the subfloor. One of the options is a DSP plate. It is a durable, non-flammable material that can be used for leveling, as a base for flooring.

DSP on the floor: how to use

It is recommended to make a floor made of DSP from plates with a thickness of at least 20 mm. Theoretically, slabs of this thickness can also be placed on logs, but it is better to make the installation step small. Thinner sheets can be used on a solid even base (concrete screed or subfloor), but the thermal and sound insulation characteristics will be lower.

Dependence of the thermal insulation coefficient on the thickness of the slab and the weight of one sheet of different thickness

As a base for laying a topcoat, this is one of the good options. You can lay both soft (linoleum, carpet, PVC tiles, cork) and hard (laminate, parquet, parquet board) coverings. Lay on DSP and tiles. In this case, take a cement-based glue and see that the base is stable, there is no movement. When laying out, try to make sure that the seam of the tile does not fall on the joint of two sheets.

Under hard coverings (in particular under tiles), it is possible to lay DSP not along the walls, but obliquely. This way, when laying straight, you will definitely avoid overlapping seams. There is more fuss with such laying of plates, but the load on the seams will be lower. Less chance of cracks in the seams or breaks in the tile, swelling of the laminate seam.

How to close up DSP joints

Since the cement-bonded particleboard has thermal expansion, the boards are not laid close to each other, but with a gap. Joints need not be sealed under hard flooring (open seam). The seams must fall on the base (beam, logs, lathing), so the joint will not be empty. For better insulation, a strip of waterproofing material is laid on the beam with an open seam. It can be a dense plastic film, roofing felt or more modern waterproofing materials.

How to patch up DSP joints on the floor

If the floor is made of CBPB boards under a soft floor covering, the seam is filled with an elastic sealant. When choosing a sealant, pay attention that after drying it retains elasticity, otherwise it will simply crumble and sag. It must also be compatible with wood and cement. The best copolymers in this regard, but they are expensive.

There is another option for filling the joint of CBPB boards on the floor with an elastic cord made of foamed polyethylene. It is laid in the gap, and from above it can be covered or painted.

Frost resistance

When moistened, CBPB absorbs little water. This determines its good resistance to low temperatures. CSP frost resistance 50 freeze-warm cycles without visible damage and at 90% residual strength. According to this parameter, the plates are suitable for use outside heated premises, provided they are protected from moisture accumulation.

Moisture exposure and biostability

DSP is resistant to moisture and biological factors. Biostability is ensured by special processing of chips with mineralization. Moisture resistance is the merit of cement. Cement stone does not lose strength with any moisture. Water absorption during prolonged immersion in water does not exceed 16%, and the swelling of the slab in thickness is 1.5%.

Xylolite

This material is made using Sorel’s magnesia binder. Insensitive to water. It is used for cladding floors, roofs and other structures where frequent wetting of the slabs is possible.

Fibrolite

These are boards filled with wood fibers, the so-called wood wool. A filler of this shape provides a better fibration, which has a positive effect on the strength of the material and its resistance to cracking. Fiberboard is relatively soft, has a relatively low density and is often used for thermal insulation and as a sound absorber.

Cement particle board. Characteristics, properties, types, application

Cement particle board is a composite sheet material made from a mixture of wood chips and cement. Thanks to this, partly contradictory combination, the DSP board has received valuable characteristics and is widely used in construction.

Formwork

Typically, in monolithic construction, formwork is a temporary structure that is removed after the initial hardening of the concrete. The use of DSP allows you to combine the preparation of the formwork with finishing work. Permanent formwork is made of these slabs, which remains part of the wall, immediately forming a flat surface that does not need plastering.

Characteristics and properties

DSP board is a relatively new material, not yet widely used in private construction. This is because not everyone can imagine how he behaves in the long run. To understand whether it is good or not for your purposes, you need to know about all the properties.

Mounting methods

The DSP board can be fastened with nails or self-tapping screws. When installing on a frame, the plates must be mounted strictly vertical.

Scope of cement-bonded particle boards in private construction

For fixing cement-bonded particle boards, you can use:

  • Galvanized screw nails with a diameter of 2.5 mm. The length is selected depending on the thickness of the sheet and the entire cake. The restrained part of the nail must be at least double the thickness of the slab, but at least 10 nail diameters.
  • Screw and self-tapping screws with pre-drilled head holes. The length is chosen according to the same principle.

When installing DSP boards, it is necessary to strictly monitor the number and order of installation of fasteners: the material has a large mass, so fasteners must be installed at least the recommended values. The distance between nails or screws depends on the thickness of the board and is indicated in the table.

How and with what frequency to install fasteners when installing a DSP

Each sheet of cement-bonded particle board is fixed around the perimeter, retreating a certain distance from the edge of the sheet. The installation frequency along the long and short side of the sheet is the same, but depends on the thickness of the material. In addition, there is also an intermediate mount in the middle of the height. Here, the frequency of installing screws or nails is half as often as along the perimeter.

For interior and exterior finishing works

Another area of application of cement particle boards is leveling of floors and walls. Compared to other materials, the DSP board has better sound insulation characteristics, is not susceptible to fungal attack, and tolerates climatic influences well. Therefore, they are often used when creating ventilated facades.

Examples of using DSP in the construction and decoration of private houses

For interior decoration, DSP boards can be used for the following works:

  • Soundproof and fireproof partitions and walls.
  • Internal facing of premises for any purpose (residential and non-residential, including those with high humidity).
  • Window sills.
  • Rough floor.
  • Ceilings.

The good news is that there are cement-bonded particle boards, sanded and unpolished. Sanded have an absolutely smooth surface. When using them, you can only close up the seams and then paint, glue wallpaper, use other finishing methods.

Fire hazard and frost resistance

DSP board belongs to hardly combustible materials, fire does not spread over the surface, toxic or harmful gases are not emitted during combustion. Fire resistance limit (ability to hold back fire) 50 min. This means that the material will collapse after 50 minutes in the fire.

High frost resistance decrease in strength after 50 freeze / thaw cycles no more than 10%, which allows the material to be used for building houses even in the Far North. The service life of this material outdoors is 50 years.

Comparison of DSP and OSB in terms of flammability

It is these properties that make DSP the preferred material in frame housing construction. The structure turns out to be more reliable in terms of fire safety.

Density and mass

Density of CBPB is 1100-1400 kg / m³. The high density gives the frame structures an increased level of rigidity. If this material is used for interior decoration, such walls have sufficient load-bearing capacity to support shelves, cabinets and other sufficiently heavy objects.

Specific resistance to pulling out self-tapping screws from a DSP board

The material is quite dense and heavy. One sheet with a height of 2700 mm, depending on the thickness, weighs from 37 kg to 164 kg. This makes cladding on the second floor and higher inconvenient. This can be considered a disadvantage.

Cement particle boards (DSP): properties, dimensions, application

Sheet building materials are used in many types of construction work, which are commonly referred to as dry. One of these materials is a particle board. It is a durable material that can be used in the construction of frame houses and outbuildings, for interior and exterior finishing works.

Electric tile cutter

If you are looking for a way to cut ceramic tiles quickly and efficiently, then use an electric tile cutter.

An electric ceramic tile cutting machine consists of a motor, a platform on which a cutting element (most often a diamond-coated disc) is fixed and a container with water. In some models, the blade is partially submerged in water, in others only the cutting area on the tile is wetted. This principle of operation reduces the amount of dust, prevents tiles from cracking and extends the life of the cutting blade.

Electric tile cutter is a universal tool. It is suitable for cutting ceramic tiles of any hardness; makes straight cuts with smooth edges that do not need additional processing; cuts pieces of tiles less than 5 mm wide. In addition, it can be used to make a cut at an angle of 45 degrees, as well as a hole or recess.

Such an acquisition only makes sense if you plan to use it regularly.

How to cut ceramic tiles? Tools and technique

When choosing how to cut ceramic tiles, you need to decide on the upcoming volume of work and its type. A tool that can handle wall tiles easily will not work with floor tiles. Radial cutting requires a different tool than simple cutting.

How to cut tiles for wall cladding?

Ceramic tiles, which are commonly used for wall decoration, are relatively soft. Therefore, cutting it, in comparison with other types of this finishing material (floor or wall tiles), does not present any particular difficulty.

How To Cut A Csp Slab

Manual tile cutter

With a large amount of work, a manual tile cutter is more suitable for cutting ceramic tiles. It consists of a base, guide tubes and a cutting element.

Place the tiles inside the device to work. Advance the cutter wheel away from you while trying to keep the pressure even. When finished making the cut, press down on the handle to break the tile.

Disadvantages the tool is not universal, you cannot cut strips less than 5 millimeters wide on it. The edge of the fracture is sometimes uneven and must be sanded by hand.

Angle Grinder

The main advantage of this method is that cutting ceramic tiles with an angle grinder does not require special skills and is available to a non-professional. The principle of operation is very simple: we connect to the network, press the start button and, after the disc picks up the required speed, we cut from ourselves according to the markings applied in advance.

It is advisable to cut the ceramic tiles with a tool that has the ability to adjust the speed. It is recommended to work at a speed not exceeding 3.5 thousand rpm. At a higher speed, ceramics begin to crack, and hot shavings and dust fly in all directions at great speed.

Angle grinder is an inexpensive and easy-to-use tool. But it has several significant disadvantages. First, when cutting, a huge amount of dust and debris is generated. Secondly, the edges of the tiles are not very neat. They have to be processed additionally: remove the jagged edges with nippers, process the cut with a file and sandpaper.

Also, despite its simplicity, this tool requires careful handling. In order not to harm yourself while working, you need to know how to cut ceramic tiles correctly. Always hold the tool firmly in your hands to keep the space in front of the saw blade clear. Be sure to use safety glasses, gloves and a respirator.

Glass cutter: regular and oil

If you need to make a quick cut of ceramic tiles in small quantities, then it is most convenient to use a roller glass cutter. It is not difficult to work with this tool. We put the tiles on a hard and flat surface, make markings with a marker. We roll the glass cutter along the intended mowing line, pressing evenly towards you. A visible line should remain on the surface. After that, we break the tiles along the cut mowing line. To do this, put a match or a carnation under it, and gently press on both sides.

The handle of this tool has a reservoir into which a mixture of kerosene and machine oil is poured. Flowing down a special channel, this mixture enters the roller and greatly facilitates the cutting process.

The advantages of the tool include speed of work, low price and ease of use. At the same time, with a glass cutter it is difficult to cut a large number of tiles in one go.
