How to cut fiberboard at home

How to cut fiberboard at home?

The initial raw material for PVC wall panels is polyvinyl chloride, which is poured under high pressure in the die (mold).

This method is called the extrusion method. To add color to the material they add ground natural chalk, the amount of which is usually not more than 40%.

In addition to painting, decorating the panels is performed using thermal printing or offset printing, but the latter method is used less frequently, due to its higher cost.

Thermal printing is applied on a special machine with a hot roller that presses the thermal film to the surface of the product. Thus it is possible to achieve rapid transfer of the image and a clear and bright print, and the panel itself does not need to be varnished, in contrast to the use of offset printing.

Universal cutter

The universal cutter has different names. It has many manufacturers. When we bought our tool, one of the leading manufacturers was Bosch.

The tool is not cheap. But once you’ve bought it, you can’t do anything else.

The cutter, unlike all other tools, vibrates.

We basically use two main types of saws: wide. 25mm40mm and narrow. 10mm20mm.

Very often during installation, you need to trim the PVC panel on the spot. Often you can do it only with a Boschev cutter. You can’t get to the hard places with any other tool.

Cutter makes the work very easy and fast. Wall products can be cut lengthwise and crosswise. You can even cut the top or bottom layer of the panel.

Let’s talk about the disadvantages. The price of tools and consumables is off the charts. For example, a jigsaw blade will cost 100 rubles, and the saw blade for the cutter at 800 rubles. Saw blades wear out quickly.

Fiberboard panels are an excellent finishing material. Ease of installation makes them probably one of the best options for finishing off corridors, hallways, loggias, offices, etc.д. Fibreboard panels can be installed on the ceiling or walls. Fiberboard panels can also be installed with tile, plastic or wood paneling. This is possible thanks to special connection profiles. However, fiberboard is not recommended for use in wet areas, as they are made of wood dust, and by nature wood from moisture swells.

Installation Fibreboard panels are made on wooden bars crate, but wood itself is not a cheap thing, and to save on the crate, I recommend assembling it from profiles CD, UD for drywall.

Mounting the Fibreboard panels.

I will explain the installation of panels on the example of the loggia. The same way to install the panels in any other room.

Assembly of the sheathing begins with the screwing of the UD profile to the ceiling and floor around the perimeter of the loggia. Fasten the profile, as always, on plastic dowels with screws. Also do not forget to observe the verticality of the plumb line. The upper profile must match the lower one.

If there is a window sill you also need to screw the UD profile underneath it.

The next step is to fix the CD profile in all corners. Also mount straight hangers for the horizontal profiles. Horizontal profiles, it is best to fix them every 40-50 cm. Or they can be fixed at the level of the knee, waist and shoulder.

Fasten the horizontal profiles. Measure the distance between the corner CD-profiles and add 8 cm to cut the “ear”. Cut out the “ear” on both sides and attach to the corner profiles.

If you do not have enough length profiles, and at hand do not have a connector for the CD-profile, do not throw everything and run to the store. The connector is very easy to make yourself. For this we cut a piece of CD profile 12 cm long and cut off the rounded ends.

How to cut fiberboard panels at home?

Panels are more than two meters long, so they are cut in the store, especially if you do not have your own transport, or it is inconvenient to carry them. And what to do at home, if you need to saw?

The following equipment is recommended for cutting:

  • Hacksaw for wood. it is not recommended to take with a very large tooth, otherwise the edge will turn out loose, in addition, the teeth can catch and pull the decorative film behind itself;
  • Metal hacksaw. cuts accurately and carefully, but slowly, so it can be used for single cases when you need something to fit;
  • Angle grinder with a cutting wheel. cuts quickly and accurately, but generates a lot of dust, so it is suitable for working outdoors, or during major repairs;
  • Electric jigsaw. suitable for indoor work, as it is possible to connect a vacuum cleaner to it.

As a single case, to fit and you can use a metal sharpening, or mounting knife, provided that the thickness of the panel is not more than 3 mm.

the blade is pressed forcefully against the material, then a sharp cut is made and the fragment is broken off by hand, while cutting off the foil on the opposite side with the knife, similarly can be used scissors on metal.

Characteristics

Fibreboard. It is a unique building material in the form of panels of medium density fiberboard. Since the boards are made by dry pressing of wood chips at high temperature and pressure with the addition of urea resin, they are extremely strong and durable in operation.

Decorative finishing with such panels has many advantages.

  • Easy installation. The material can be installed in any direction: diagonally, across or along the wall surface. In addition, the installation of the panels does not require thorough preparation of the work base. The condition of the walls in no way affects the quality of the cladding.
  • Aesthetic appearance. A huge palette of color palettes and textures allows the use of wood-fiber board for any style of design. In addition, during installation, there is a small space between the panels and the base of the wall, which can be used to conceal insulation and wiring.
  • Good thermal insulation. The material has excellent heat dissipation, so when the fibreboard is installed, the room becomes additionally insulated.
  • Easy to maintain. To clean the panels from dust and dirt, simply wipe them with a soft sponge dampened in warm water. If damage occurs during work, there is no need to completely replace the skin. Faulty panel can be removed and replaced with a new one.
  • Durability. Such cladding will last more than ten years reliably.

Despite the positive characteristics, fiberboard has a number of disadvantages.

  • Low moisture resistance. The material deforms under the influence of moisture. Therefore, it is recommended to use special boards with a protective layer to decorate rooms with high humidity.
  • Unstable to mechanical damage and loads. Decorative panels require careful installation and maintenance.
  • High risk of fire. Electrical wiring that is treated must be placed in a fire-resistant enclosure.
  • Forming hollow walls. Because the fiberboard is attached to the frame, there is a “gap” between the body, so when you need to attach furniture to the walls, you must use long nails or dowels.

Generally, the most common products on the market are 7 mm to 14 mm and size 2600 × 200 mm, size 2600 × 153 mm, 2600 × 325 mm. The wall blocks are usually fastened to glue or boxes of wooden beams and metal profiles. It is much easier to mount the boards on a wooden frame, but before installation, the wood should be covered with antiseptic solutions to protect it from mold and mildew.

Today, fiberboard panels are widely used in a variety of applications. They are lined with walls, door frames, window sills, ceilings, and screens made of material for heating and ventilation systems and arches. This finish looks great in modern interiors, as the panels mimic not only expensive wood, but also natural stone.

How to cut laminated fiberboard?

While cutting unfinished fiberboard can be done with an ordinary machine, laminated board requires a machine with an additional bottom saw. This is especially important when sawing boards with a double-sided finish. Sawing Fiberboard can be done at home with an electric or hand-operated jigsaw.

  • A wood hacksaw. It is recommended to use a hacksaw with a fine tooth so that the edge would be smooth.
  • Hacksaw for metal. Cuts precisely and smoothly, but very slowly.
  • angle grinder. Cuts quickly and accurately, but generates a lot of dust.
  • Jigsaw. Also a lot of dust, but it is possible to connect a vacuum cleaner. The best variant.

Angle grinder with a cutting wheel. cuts quickly and accurately, but generates a lot of dust, so it is suitable for working outdoors, or during major repairs; Electric jigsaw. suitable for indoor work, as there is an opportunity to connect a vacuum cleaner to it.

It is a good variant. A mitre saw with an adjustable angle of attack (and make sure the kerf is deeper than the height of your skirting board). An easier variant. Hacksaw for metal Jigsaw.

How to join the fibreboard panels together?

Connecting with each other by a tongue and groove, each of the panels has one side pointed and the opposite side bifurcated, so, putting the tip in the groove, get a prefabricated structure.

For straight cuts in decorative materials (coated board or laminate) the T101BR (medium-sized reversible teeth) is the right choice. Lumber or thick wood is best cut with the T344C (long blade with large teeth). Saw blade size should be chosen based on the thickness of the material to be sawn.

Cut Fiberboard can be cut with any cutting tool that is suitable for cutting wood. But the best will be an electric jigsaw with a saw on metal or any other saw with a fine tooth. After choosing the direction of sewing Fiberboard, we measure and cut the panel to the desired length.

How to cut fiberboard panels?

If you are going to saw Chipboard, then you need to choose a saw with fine teeth. Before that you need to sharpen it. The saw needs to be pressed lightly and driven at an acute angle; However, if you want to make a cut Laminated Fibreboard with a jigsaw, you must first scratch the trimmer line on the board.

Tools and materials If possible, it is best to cut chipboard with a hand router, using homemade guides. This method is not very convenient when cutting large sheets, because you need a table to work with this tool. In addition, this method requires frequent change of cutters.

How to saw the fiberboard at home?

The main thing is to make a precise mark before sawing the board. To do this, use an angle, ruler, tape measure, laser level or an ordinary level. You can also cut fiberboard with a metal saw. This tool cuts carefully and accurately but very slowly.

How to cut corners properly Fiberboard?

You can cut fiberboard with any cutting tool that is suitable for wood. But an electric jigsaw with a metal file or any other fine-toothed saw is best. After choosing the direction for the fiberboard insulation, we measure and cut the panel to the desired length. At the first panel it is necessary to saw off a spike along its entire length.

Tools and materials If possible, it is best to cut Fibreboard with a hand-held cutter, using homemade guides. This method is not too convenient when cutting large sheets, because when working with this tool requires a table. In addition, the cutters must be changed frequently with this method.

Cutting other types of panels

Sawing Fibreboard is different from cutting chipboard. The high density of the material quickly dulls the saw teeth, so it often has to be resharpened or even replaced. Cutting uncoated chipboard can be done on a standard machine, but laminated board requires a machine with an extra bottom saw. This is especially important when sawing panels with a double-sided surface finish.

Sawing fiberboard can be done at home with an electric or hand-operated jigsaw. Of course the saw blade must be sharp, with a fine tooth and the jigsaw should be set to the maximum rpm. Place the Woodblock horizontally on the support, which should not hinder the sawing (between two tables or chairs, for example), fix it, if necessary, with clamps.

Electric jigsaw should be held with both hands, pressed firmly against the surface, move smoothly, strictly along the line of marking, without jerks and pressure. The same is true when working with a hand jigsaw.

In the case where you need to cut a lot of sheets of material, it is more convenient to contact a specialized firm. It will save you time and effort.

How to saw a tabletop with a circular saw

When working with a tool called a circular saw, a fine-toothed circular saw blade is needed. A circular saw is more useful than a jigsaw for making long, straight cuts. However, splinters are formed much more during such work, as the side with the teeth plunges into the material and breaks off pieces.

But even when working with a finishing disc on one side of the countertop, there are many chips, which must be worked on for a long time afterwards. And not the fact that after processing is not left millimeter chipping or microcracks, which in the future would lead to failure of the material or a strong moisture penetration.

That is why it is better not to use this variant for sawing worktops. It is better to leave the use of the circular saw for other work. If this is the only option for you, you have to deal with a lot of work when it comes to finishing the cut material.

How to cut a chipboard

Chipboard is very popular with craftsmen and craftsmen in various fields. This versatile material is used in all kinds of applications, from house building to furniture production. You are of course aware that the preparation of components for chipboard furniture requires skills and certain knowledge when cutting and sawing Particleboard. If you cut the panel properly, without splitting or scoring, it is possible to follow our recommendations.

Choice of materials for staining

In principle, all fiberboard paints are formulated according to the composition of the material. And this, first of all, is a small wood fraction, which means that for the work are suitable paint compounds for wood. But in order to get a really high quality coating, it is better to use a special consistency.

Sanding

The work begins with sanding the surface. It is quite a labor-intensive activity, which must be performed carefully.

The panels are grinded with sandpaper with a grain size of 100 20 to 200 40 units. The process is carried out in several steps and with different materials. Everything has to be done very carefully without spending too much time in one area. It is used to remove small bumps and fluff that cover the whole surface.
