How to dilute two-stroke oil for grass trimmer

On how accurately you will comply with the manufacturer’s recommended proportions of the mixture “oil-gasoline”, depends on the working life of the engine sokokosa. The fact is that the fuel-oil mixture enters the cylinders in the form of a petrol-oil mist. And the task of the oil composition is to lubricate the moving and friction parts and surfaces of a variety of parts that are in the cylinder. If it suddenly turns out that there is not enough oil, and somewhere there is not enough oil at all, the parts that are touching each other will start to damage each other. This results in scoring, scratches and chips, which will certainly lead to complete or partial engine failure (e.g., it may jam).

In the opposite case, when too much oil gets into the engine, it has no time to be fully combusted and gets deposited on the cylinder walls and with time turns into solid particles like coke, slag and the like. As you can guess, this also leads to engine failure. The most important thing is that you shouldn’t allow even a single oil shortage. It’s better to overfill a little oil 10 times than underfill just once. Often it happens that this time is enough to break the engine.

Which oil to choose

For the effective operation of the grass trimmer it is necessary to select oil for two-stroke engines. This is due to the absence of an oil sump in such a device. Depending on the chemical composition of the oil, the following classification is distinguished:

  • mineral. based on petroleum distillate suitable for low-power and air-cooled machines, but they need to be changed often and can be used only in good weather in the warmer months
  • Semi-synthetic is suitable for air and liquid cooled garden equipment;
  • synthetic oils are based on esters, do not require frequent changes and can be used at any time of the year.

The oil for 2-stroke engines is characterized by good solubility and peculiarity of complete combustion. For grass trimmer, it is recommended to use a lubricant that is suitable for devices with an air-cooled system. Most often the packaging indicates that the oil is intended for garden equipment and is labeled TA, TV or TC. The latter is preferable.

If the consumption of engine oil during the dacha season is planned large due to the presence in the garden arsenal also a chainsaw, brush cutter, lawn mower, it is advisable to buy 5 liters of oil at a better price. If you need it only to mix it with gasoline and fill up a single tool, 1 liter is enough.

Often manufacturers of chain saws produce a suitable oil, so you can make the choice easier if you pick up a liquid of the appropriate brand.

Recommendations for storage

It is better to prepare the mixture in an amount that should be enough for one-time work. The problem is the irreversible deterioration of the working properties of the mixture during storage. It is recommended to use the ready mix within the next few days.

Mixing gasoline and oil for a month impairs the engine’s traction capabilities. It also causes the formation of tar compounds in the fuel system and intensive formation of carbon monoxide in the combustion chamber, loss of piston ring mobility.

  • It is advisable to store gasoline and oil for a maximum of 2 weeks with minimal loss of quality. At ambient temperatures of 25 degrees or more, the storage time is reduced to 8-10 days.
  • To save money, an expired mixture can be gradually expended by mixing in a fresh mixture in an amount not exceeding 10% of the total volume.

To reduce the risk of fuel system malfunctions, it is best to filter the fuel-oil mix using a non-fibre material, such as chamois leather or fine twill mesh wire mesh.

Features of the brushcutter refueling

Depending on the engine type, brushcutters are divided into two-stroke and four-stroke types. In the first case, the internal combustion engine piston makes 2 moves per working cycle, and in the second case. 4 moves. Differences in the working principle of the engine cause different approaches to filling the trimmer for grass.

Filling of brushcutters with two-stroke engine

Household brushcutter models usually have a two-stroke engine. A lawnmower does not need high power and high cutting performance. It is well suited for the task at hand. It is also a much cheaper and simpler engine, but is fueled with a fuel mix of oil and gasoline. Such fuel is poured into the carburetor and fed into the cylinder in the form of an oil-gasoline mist. The oil thus lubricates all necessary parts and is burned together with the gasoline during engine operation. But when it burns, it emits a pungent smell and smoke, making the exhaust more toxic.

Important! You need to use a special oil for two-stroke engines for these brushcutters. The oil burns completely without smudging and has very low volatility. To make it mix well with the gasoline, it contains 20% of a solvent.

Fueling a brushcutter with a four-stroke engine

Four-stroke engines are used in professional brushcutter models. They are powerful and can work for long periods without interruption or refuelling. They also use gasoline and oil as fuels. but they are filled into separate tanks. This means that there is no oil in the combustion process, which makes the exhaust fumes less toxic.

Special Note! In addition to better environmental performance and less heat, brushcutter four-stroke engines are also more economical. They use much less fuel. savings up to 50 percent for gasoline and 80 percent for oil.

Rules for mixing

To prepare the fuel mix, you need to use a clean, dry container that is free of foreign particles and contaminants. Plastic containers are not recommended. After adding the liquids in the required proportion, the mixture should be thoroughly mixed for 2-3 minutes. You cannot do the following:

  • Add a small amount of oil directly into the gas tank of the brushcutter, as this will not give a homogeneous mixture;
  • First of all pour the oil, and then the gasoline. Because of the difference in density, this order of adding components also results in an inhomogeneous mixture4
  • Measuring components “by eye”. With this approach to achieve the exact proportion of gasoline and oil for grass trimmer 1/50 or 1/40 will not be possible;
  • Use polyethylene bottles, because the latter dissolves with gasoline.

Oil for brushcutters: how to choose, what proportions to dilute

Many of you have gasoline tools in your household, for example, in a private home, you can’t do without a chainsaw. You know, to prepare wood for the winter, it comes in handy at construction and repair, and in general, it’s a very useful tool. If the country house also has a decent-sized plot, then the grass trimmer or lawnmower, which also work on gasoline, is simply needed to combat the grass.

Of course, you can buy them and electric, but not everyone likes to pull a 30-meter extension cord to mow the area overgrown with grass up to the knee. That’s why most people prefer to work with gasoline-powered tools. As you know, you need to add special oil for two-stroke engines. And here we are going to talk about it, because it’s a very important aspect, if you don’t add oil and add it in wrong proportions, your engine will fail very fast and your way will be to the service center. To avoid all that, you have to use the right kind of oil and in the right proportions.

The most popular for chain saws, brush cutters and trimmers are products of the famous company STIHL. It is sold in 2 packages of 1 liter and 100 ml. For those who work a lot, a liter bottle is enough. The capacity of 1 liter costs 250, and for 10 ml 60. If you take the big one, the savings are obvious.

You add oil to gasoline in the ratio of 1 to 50, so you add 100 ml for 5 liters of gasoline, for example. As you see, a small bottle is perfect for making 5 liters of petrol mix for your chain saw or weed trimmer. The big bottle has special marks on the side by which you can tell how much oil you have drained from the bottle. If you bought a big 1 liter bottle, then buy a 20 ml syringe at the drugstore as well. It’s very convenient to add 1 syringe of oil to 1 liter of gasoline.

The experts advise you to use a brand oil for their equipment, it is ideal because it is designed and tested specifically for STIHL tools. I note that Stihl has its own brands, such as VIKING (popular models of gasoline trimmers). Also use Stihl oil for them and you won’t have any problems at all.

If you put more gasoline mixture than you can use, it’s best to store the rest in a metal canister or in a glass container. Never keep the mix in a plastic bottle. Of course, if you use up the leftovers in a couple of days, you can pour the rest of the mixture into a plastic half-cup, but if the mixture will be stored for a long time, then either a canister or a glass container. The thing is that the gas mixture corrodes the plastic bottle, microscopic sediments of plastic appear in the mixture and it is very bad for the engine. Keep it in mind if you want your machine to work a long time without problems.

The second most popular oil brand is the notorious Hooksvarna. Of course, when you think about it that way, more people use STIHL chainsaws, at least all my friends and their friends use them for work.

However, there are those who cherish Husqvarna tools and I understand them, because I personally do not see much difference between Husqvarna and Stihl, both tools are of very high quality. But I’ve seen some happy Husqvarna chain saw owners saying the saws are great. I have not cut my own saws, but I always listen to what people have to say. So, if you have a gasoline tool Husqvarna, it would be better to use a special brand oil for it. Although nothing terrible will happen if you dilute the gasoline with Stihl. But since the manufacturer recommends to use only its products, we will do so.

You can find liter bottles on sale. A black stylish bottle, same markings on the side as Stihl’s (to know how much oil has been poured out of the bottle). Seems absolutely identical to me. This bottle costs 270 and a little bit more.

Both oils are of high quality, the cost is about the same, each diluted in the proportion of 1 to 50. So feel free to buy any oil, of course, better to take the oil of the brand you have the tool then everything will be perfect, just like the manufacturer advises. Have a good sawing, grass mowing and let your gasoline tool work for a long time without failures.

What kind of gasoline to use?

Gasoline for grass trimmers should be unleaded, 92 or 95 nominal rating. As practice shows, gasoline AI-80 can cause device breakage, which is a questionable economy.

The fuel must be fresh, that is, after purchase it can be stored for no more than 60 days.

Other factors affect fuel quality, such as using special lawnmower lubricant and diluting it in a separate container. We also recommend the use of gasoline canisters, which are specially made for storing gasoline.

How much oil per gallon of gasoline is needed for the lawnmower or chain saw?

All two-stroke engines run on a fuel mixture of gasoline and oil. Fuel enters the cylinder, burns there, creating a working force on the piston, and the part of the mixture that has not had time to ignite, lubricates the moving parts of the piston group.

When drawing up a fuel mixture for a lawnmower or chain saw, you need to calculate how much oil you need per liter of gasoline, based not only on the standard proportion, but also on what brand of gasoline and oil is used. In the case of two-stroke motors, this is very important.

For trimmers, a special two-stroke oil is produced, which should be marked “2T” on the package. It is strictly forbidden to use automobile oil, especially transmission oil. Two-stroke oil is produced in three types:

It all depends on what substances make up the base of the oil. Mineral oil is the cheapest and most unreliable. Its use is justified only in domestic-class trimmers, which work for 30 to 60 minutes a day with long breaks. Most brushcutter manufacturers at this level indicate that TC-W3 class oil is suitable for the engine. This means that you can use mineral, synthetic and semi-synthetic 2T oil.

For professional-grade brushcutters, it is advisable to buy only the oil brands recommended by the manufacturer. Usually they are semi-synthetics and synthetics with special additives.

Manufacturers label oil with letters:

  • ? TA. for two-stroke engines up to 50 cc;
  • ? TV. for engines of 50 to 200 cubic centimeters;
  • ? TC for motorcycle engines, snowmobile engines, etc.д.

For brushcutters, if the oil type is not specified in the manual, all three modifications can be filled. How much oil to add to the fuel of your grass trimmer depends on the brand of the tool and the quality of the gasoline. But they are often marked with the letters FA, FB, FC, etc., which are not included in the oil package.д. They indicate the smoke level. The closer the second letter is to the beginning of the alphabet, the more smoke is emitted during combustion. As a rule, quality oil has very few. This rating has no effect on oil selection.

important are “self-mix” and “pre-mix. The first word combination means that the oil dissolves on its own, and the container with the second mixture must be shaken several times.

If the manufacturer’s instructions do not specify what gasoline to use, you must stop at AI-92. If it is recommended to use AI-95, do not use other brands of gasoline.

Some users believe that adding more oil to the fuel mix will help. It is not. Oil that is not burned will not be expelled from the engine with the exhaust fumes, but will settle inside as soot. This buildup threatens the integrity of the piston. If you use a mixture with too much oil regularly, the grass trimmer will smoke a lot, and a drop in power is inevitable.

If there is not enough oil, the grass trimmer will overheat, the piston rings will collapse and the piston will jam. If oil shortage is negligible, the grass trimmer will work for 30 to 40% less resource. If the lubricant is lacking more than 20%, the engine will jam after 20. 30 minutes of intensive work. Each instruction to the trimmer provides proportions on how to dilute the fuel mixture. Usually it is 1:25. 1:40 or 1:50.

  • Use of an anti-vibration system to prevent the grass trimmer’s vibrating elements from harming the operator’s hands and other body parts.

Features of operating Huter GGT-1500TX

Grass trimmer operation is not very difficult and after carefully studying the instructions and assembling the obtained product you can proceed to prepare the grass trimmer for work. Let’s consider briefly how to assemble Huter GGT-1500TX and prepare it for operation. At the initial stage perform the installation of control handles with a special wrench included in the delivery set. Always check that everything is securely in place when connecting the components. Now you can proceed to the next step: connecting the boom to the motor. The assembly is performed with the help of OEM bolt set. After the boom is connected to the motor, the blade guard and cutting elements can be installed. Read more about the step-by-step assembly of the grass trimmer in the User’s Manual.

After the grass trimmer is assembled, it is now ready for the work that awaits it in the field. Preparing for operation begins with preparing the fuel mixture. At this stage observe all recommendations of the producer of fuel mixture, as well as follow the exact procedure of its preparation, which is actually not very difficult.

As the Huter GGT-1500TX is equipped with a two-stroke engine with air cooling, then to prepare the fuel mixture requires high-quality oil, which is specially produced for the aforementioned type of engines. API TV/API TS, JASO FB/JASO FC. We recommend you use Huter oil, labeled Huter 2T. The second component of the mixture should be gasoline of high quality, the octane number of which is not lower than 92. It is strictly forbidden to use in the fuel mixture oils that are produced for water-cooled engines. The fuel mix is made in the ratio 1:40 (1 oil, 40 gasoline) or according to the recommendations of the oil manufacturer.

Use a special measuring cup for the mixture preparation process. The amount of mixture should be calculated only for one cycle, so that after completing the work in the tank there is no residual fuel mixture (do not leave it in the tank until the next cycle of work). Also never use the tank itself to prepare the mixture, as well as do not perform operations with the fuel mixture components near the hearth of fire and do not smoke during fuel preparation.

After a correctly composed fuel mixture is poured into the tank, you can proceed to direct preparation of the grass trimmer for work. To do this the user should first put on the backpack type belt and fasten it securely but comfortably. After that, using a special carabiner, the grass trimmer is attached to the belt and adjusted if necessary. For details on preparing the grass trimmer for operation, see the Owner’s Manual.
