How to correctly insert a bit into a screwdriver?

The start button is arranged in such a way as to adjust the rotation speed by pressing force.

How To Get A Bit Out Of A Screwdriver

The principal element of a screwdriver is its power source. If the drills are produced in modifications both with a mains supply and in an autonomous (battery) version, then screwdrivers, due to the peculiarities of implementation, are practically only battery-powered. The battery is the heaviest and most expensive part of a screwdriver.

Household models of screwdrivers are usually equipped with nickel-cadmium (designated Ni-Cd), and more expensive professional lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries. Their difference lies in the fact that nickel-cadmium ones have the shortest service life (about 1000 recharges), they also have one unpleasant feature: if the battery is discharged a little, its capacity is miniaturized the next time it is charged.

However, whatever the battery, its capacity is limited by the weight of the tool. Therefore, even the most expensive models of screwdrivers are able to work continuously for less than some time. Some domestic manufacturers solve this problem by introducing a second spare battery into the screwdriver set. But, this significantly increases the price of the instrument. The battery is charged from an ordinary network. The charging speed, again, depends on the model and ranges from 2-3 to 6 hours, although some models of screwdrivers provide fast charging in 10-15 minutes.

How to use the screwdriver battery

Before starting work, make sure that the battery of your screwdriver is fully charged. Insert it into the charger and pay attention to the indicator. A green light indicates that the battery is charged. The red light indicates that it needs to be charged.

In order to increase the operating time of the screwdriver, it is enough to have a second battery. After the first is discharged and you replace it with the second, insert the first into the charger. After the battery is charged, do not keep it in the charger. This shortens the overall battery life. Also, the temperature of the room in which the screwdriver is operating is too hot or too cold has a detrimental effect on the battery life. One battery lasts five hours.

Device and principle of operation of the screwdriver

By the way of power supply, screwdrivers are divided into two types:

  • Network, connected to networks with a voltage of 220 V;
  • Battery, using the energy of the accumulated charge.

Recently, instruments with a combined method of feeding have also appeared. They combine all the advantages of both varieties.

The external and internal device of the network and battery models is almost the same. In general, a power tool consists of the following structural elements:

  • Housing;
  • Cartridge;
  • Power buttons;
  • Switch for the direction of rotation of the electric motor (reverse);
  • Speed regulator (number of revolutions);
  • Inclusion blocking buttons;
  • Tightening force regulator (torque switch).

The photo below shows the design of a battery-type screwdriver.

A number of models are additionally equipped with backlighting, which is constructively implemented in different ways. Not every product has a speed controller and a power lock button. Networked electric screwdrivers have a power cord, while cordless ones have a charge storage device instead.

The body of a power tool is most often made of plastic, much less often of alloys of different metals. For convenience, it usually consists of 2 halves. Inside the case are the following main parts:

  • Electric motor (direct or alternating current);
  • Pay;
  • Capacitor;
  • Reducer;
  • Clutch.

The wiring diagram depends on the model.

The electric screwdriver can be equipped with different types of chuck. The most widespread is the quick-clamping three-cam version of this part. The cartridge also consists of separate parts, which are shown in the following photo.

It should be borne in mind that if the purpose of the screwdriver is highly specialized, then this may introduce some design changes.

The principle of operation of both network and cordless screwdrivers is the same. It consists in the fact that electrical energy drives an electric motor in rotation. Through the gearbox and the shaft, force and speed are transmitted from the motor to the nozzle fixed in the chuck. She is already drilling a hole or screwing in or unscrewing the fasteners. A feature of the process is that the electric motor for network models operates at an alternating voltage of 220 V, and for battery models it operates at a constant voltage, the value of which can range from 3.5 V to 36 V.
