How to Install a Circular Saw Stationarily

A hand-held circular saw is necessarily in the arsenal of all those involved in construction or carpentry. The most convenient models that are installed on a workbench or table and are used stationary.

The first circular saws were developed by SKIL in the 20s of the last century. Since then, the appearance of the tool has undergone significant changes. Manufacturers are constantly working to improve the design, which today withstands fierce competition. What are the structural differences between a fixed-mount tool and what models are on the market, read on.

How to Install a Circular Saw Stationarily

The circular saw is designed for transverse and longitudinal cutting of relatively soft materials: wood, wood boards, plastics, non-ferrous alloys. Hand tools work quickly and accurately, therefore they are widely used in various carpentry work, as well as in:

  • Roofing;
  • Flooring;
  • Making furniture.

Replacing the disk on a manual circular, you can cut soft metals and profiles. And having installed it on a workbench using a special device, turn it into a machine tool.

The main elements of a circular saw:

  • Electric motor;
  • Gearbox in the housing;
  • Guide;
  • Platform;
  • Protective box;
  • Stationary mount.

The tool body is made of durable plastic and only in single metal models. Since a lot of dust and chips are produced during operation, manufacturers provide a chip removal system. As a rule, this is the output for connecting an industrial vacuum cleaner. There are models with an integrated dust container. A convenient solution for one-time work.

On modern manual models, only collector electric motors with a capacity of 750. 2500 W are installed. This indicator determines the number of revolutions of the disk and the capabilities of the tool. The most powerful models have a speed of up to 5000. A powerful motor requires cooling, which is provided by the ventilation system of the case.

The platform is of great importance when choosing. She may be:

  • Stamped. Cheaper, suitable for the amateur;
  • Cast aluminum. Does not deform, strong and stable.

Often, a graduated scale is applied to the platform, helping to more accurately saw the workpieces.

Guide rail. Serves to make a smooth cut. Some manufacturers equip their tool guide. But this does not always happen.

When choosing a guide, the model and manufacturer of the manual circular should be considered. The tire is often quite expensive, so it is more advisable to purchase a tool that is already equipped with a guide.

Additional devices

Laser pointer is a convenient option that allows you to cut a part with markings covered with sawdust. It increases the cost of equipment, but is welcomed by professionals.

The ability to replace the disk. Modern models are equipped with a spindle lock, which allows you to quickly and easily remove the disk for replacement. Otherwise, the disk is removed with two keys. A long and inconvenient procedure.

Fixed mount for circular

This simple device slightly increases the cost of the saw, but significantly expands its functionality. This is especially true for powerful heavy devices. Fixed mount is:

  • A pair of clamps that fix the mechanism to the workbench;
  • A pair of legs;
  • Protection retaining plate;
  • Clip for the start button (the button is clamped in the “ON” position).

Holes are provided for fastenings in the upper part of the tool body. After installation, three fulcrum points are formed that securely and firmly hold the saw up with cutting teeth. It turns out a mini-circular machine with a working surface equal to the platform. It is very convenient for cutting a large number of medium-sized parts.

Mounting the saw on a fixed mount

  1. We attach the legs: we take out the plug-bolts and instead we screw in the bolts to fix the legs.
  2. We attach the plate fixing the protection. The protection must be inserted into the housing and pressed against the plate.
  3. Using clamps, we attach the tool to the workbench by inserting hooks into special holes.

Only specially designed models are installed upside down! Otherwise, an overload of the tool or jamming of the disk, which entails expensive repairs, is likely. Many manufacturers of hand-held circular saws warn of the inability to use the tool upside down. Look for information on this in the instruction manual.

There are few models on the market with the possibility of stationary installation. This is mainly domestic products. Distinctive properties. A large circle diameter and a powerful electric motor.

Criteria for choosing a stationary circular saw

Although the choice of models with stationary fasteners is not rich, among them you need to choose the most suitable.

Power

Sawing wood requires considerable effort, so the work of powerful saws is more efficient. And the tool life will be longer, because a powerful engine requires less effort, it does not overheat. However, the more powerful the device, the heavier it is. But the issue is partially solved by the presence of a desktop stand.

The smallest and weakest mechanisms have a power of 1200 watts, the largest 2500 watts. You should choose based on the mode of use of the tool.

Cut depth

This is also an important parameter, although it does not differ much between large and small saws. Particular attention should be paid to the maximum cut at an angle. Modern models have the ability to cut to a degree. The cut value for a degree is always much less than in a straight line, it is this indicator that you should pay attention to when searching for a small hand saw.

Saw blade

Each manufacturer offers many options for picking their products. The most important additions are:

  • Limiter. Used to remove the smooth edges of the material, turn unedged boards into edged, sawing long strips of material from a piece;
  • Ruler. Bolted to the platform and helps measure the width of the cut piece.

Most of the additional accessories from inexpensive saws made in Asia. Famous brands are usually limited to a meager set of the device itself and the limiter. The rest will have to be purchased.

Saw blade compatibility

Saw blades differ in the number, shape and size of the teeth, material, bore and outer diameter. 32 discs cannot be mounted on a 30 mm cartridge. A large disk with a diameter of 200 mm does not “fit” on every low-power circular.

The number of teeth in a circle determines the capabilities and quality of work. So, with more teeth, a better cut is obtained. For cutting pressed plates, discs with 36 to 48 teeth are optimal. To work with the board is enough 20. 24 teeth. Carbide surfaced discs are more durable; they are capable of sawing even a nail accidentally hammered into the board.

By the shape of the teeth, the disks are divided into active (sharpened at a positive angle) and passive (sharpened at a negative angle). The wiring of the teeth along the direction of movement of the saw wheel is characteristic of a positive sharpening angle. And the wiring against the movement is for the negative. Hard materials are sawn with passive ones (metal alloys, tin), and wood and plastic are sawn with active disks. If you saw a tree around with a negative sharpening, the cut will be torn, with sticking fibers.
