How to make a drill with your own hands

6 ways to make a DIY mini drill at home

Therefore, if there is no mini-drill at hand, and there is neither time nor desire to spend your own hard-earned money on buying it, you can use the advice of experienced craftsmen and design a tool at home using available tools and materials.

  • From an old tape recorder
  • From a fishing reel
  • Economical option without housing
  • Alternative options

From an old tape recorder

Another basis for a mini-drill can be the electric motor of a well-worn player or tape recorder that rotates a CD blank. The standard motor of such devices operates from 6V voltage, therefore, you may need to additionally purchase a portable power supply or build a mount for a battery or battery.

With the help of two soldered wires, the power unit (with or without a switch button) is attached to the motor and fixed with tape or glue in a homemade tubular case. After that, the same collet chuck is attached to the shaft, which holds the drill.

Important! To avoid “eights” and vibration of the drill, the diameter of the collet hole should correspond as closely as possible to the size of the engine shaft, as a rule, 1.5. 2.3 mm, and sit tightly on it.

Drill example

The original case is also made independently in such a way that the engine is tightly fixed inside, while leaving a gap or an open part in the place of heating.

The body of the mini drill can be any plastic tube.

There are models in which a tube from a sealant, a syringe, a plastic tube from toothpaste or from children’s sweets was used.

A piece of plumbing plastic pipe, filed to the required length, is also suitable, but in this case the open ends will need to be plugged with some kind of movable “plug”, for example, acrylic or cut from plastic.

The resulting tool is a versatile option; Depending on the type of repair, this chuck fixes various attachments: drills, milling cutters, discs with a cutting edge or screwdriver heads.

Necessary materials

Before proceeding to the description of the various methods of making a homemade mini-drill, you should determine what structural elements this tool consists of.

There are four of them:

  • The drive is the heart of any instrument. It can be either mechanical or electrical, in the form of an electric motor. At the same time, based on safety rules, the masters recommend using a low-power unit with an operating voltage of up to 12 Volts for a mini-drill.

Electric motor RS385 12V

  • Cartridge clamp. If desired, you can find a universal chuck suitable for both the drill and the screwdriver. Such are, for example, collet mechanisms. they are cheap, and consist of a chuck and replaceable drills, which are fixed in the chuck with protruding bolts.

Small chuck 0.7 mm. 3.2 mm

  • Miniature battery or power pack to power our mini drill. If possible, it is better to use a unit with an adjustable supply voltage, this will allow you to change the shaft speed.
  • Shroud or housing.

Reference! There are options for a mini-drill with a manual or electric drive, in the manufacture of which individual elements are excluded from the design (for example, a power unit or a housing).

Economical option without housing

The most budgetary model of a mini-drill is an ordinary electric motor, to which a power unit is connected through a wiring without a case.

A 12-volt motor will require a power supply consisting of a 30-watt transformer and a rectifier bridge, for example, on a 1N1007 diode.

Protecting the motor from pulsating winding oscillations during the voltage rectification process will allow the inclusion of a simple capacitor in the circuit, up to 25 V with a capacitive characteristic of 1000 microfarads.

The chain works reliably, but as the load increases, for example, when drilling through dense material, voltage will drop, which will cause rotation to stop. The voltage can be stabilized by adding stabilizers to the KR142EN8B or L7812CV circuit

After the drive unit is ready, a chuck is made or bought. even a rod from the handle, in which the drill is fixed with glue, can be suitable for home drilling of miniature holes. Also, the cartridge can be replaced with the previously proposed collet or screw terminal.

From an electric toothbrush

An interesting option is the mini drill, which can be converted from an outdated electric toothbrush.

The engine and gearbox installed in it are capable of transmitting enough torque to drill a hole in thin metal, plastics or computer boards.

The main thing that is required from the master is to replace the cleaning head on the shaft with the same engraving or collet chuck. Before buying a chuck, it is important to determine the diameter of the shaft so that the chuck is securely fixed on it. sometimes this will require sawing off the fastening screws.

Reference! Many brushes, including older ones, are already equipped with a speed controller and are sold with a battery pack.

From a fishing reel

A simple and effective version of a mini-drill can be constructed using the reel mechanism of an ordinary fishing rod as a drive. Such a tool will work like a drill, in which the torque of the handle is transmitted through a gear gear.

The master will only need to dismantle the line bobbin of the coil and cut the axle, after which, in their place, weld or glue a collet or a chuck from a non-working drill, in which the drill will be fixed.

The model is mechanically driven, does not require power supply, and is manually driven.

Materials that will be needed. corner for PVC pipe, adapter for the same pipe, only T-shaped. The body will also be made of PVC pipe, but its inner diameter must match the dimensions of the selected engine. The electric brushed motor itself needs a 775 class. You will also need wires and a button with which the drill will be turned off and on. Prepare 3 rechargeable batteries, necessarily of a certain format. 18650, a 3S BMS controller, a standard type power connector, a drill chuck and plastic plugs corresponding to the dimensions of the connectors on the pipe from which the drill body will be made.

You just need to assemble a homemade product, it is important to do it correctly so that the tool works properly. We solder two wires to the electric motor, each 20 cm long. The engine should fit well in the corner of the cuts, where it will be fixed. We install the engine in a corner, but first insert the wiring.

Now we make a handle out of a pipe, you can choose the length yourself, which will be convenient to use. A through hole must be made in the PVC pipe body, where the button will be placed. First, we make marks with a marker and only then cut a hole, you can use a soldering iron. Then, with scissors, we simply remove the pieces of plastic and expand the hole in the still warm pipe. The button must be firmly fixed.

All the wiring from the electric motor is pulled through the finished hole, the pipe with the angle must be connected. All this is done simply, without glue, since the corner is well attached to the pipe on its own. One wire needs to be pushed inside the case, the second one too, but you need to leave a loop in the hole for the button. The loop is cut with scissors, we remove the insulation from the ends of the wire and solder the button to it, then put it in place.

We connect all three batteries with glue to each other, solder a wire to them, connecting everything in series. We take a controller that will monitor the battery charge level, connect it to the battery, as shown in the video. We take a T-shaped pipe adapter, install batteries in it, whose wires we connect to wires from the engine. We fix the power connector at the input of the power controller. Now you need to install the chuck on the motor shaft, fix it with a hexagon. We install plugs on both sides of the case, charge the drill and check how it works.

Shell options

If, in order to make a clamping device, it will be necessary to go to Aliexpress or another similar portal in search of a collet chuck, everything is much easier with the casing. To create it, rubbish will fit, which, as usual, is thrown away.

Let’s look at several variations.

  • Antiperspirant deodorant bottle. Individual containers made of plastic perfectly fit the dimensions of the motor from an audio tape recorder or a CD player. In a situation where the engine is slightly larger, insert it with a slight stretch. In the lid of the antiperspirant bottle, a hole must be cut to remove the collet. For greater practicality, at the very bottom you can put a socket for connecting a power source, and on the side there is an on / off button. This makes it possible to keep the drill away from the unit.
  • Holder for connecting incandescent lamps. The option, of course, is of little use. making a hole in such a strong plastic will not work, therefore, the power button will need to be fixed on the shell with glue.

The back cover can be made from a container for soap bubbles.

  • The tube is the correct size. Any material will do. steel, plastic or rubber. True, not as neat as the options listed above. Do not forget that when fixing the motor to the casing, there should be no gaps, otherwise the drill is likely to run out during operation. Cold welding or super glue is allowed for auxiliary fixation.

Clamping mechanism

The next important component of the device is the chuck used to hold the drill. To make a clamping device, you must purchase a collet in advance. It is a clamping device capable of firmly holding cylindrical objects. After fixing the drill in the collet chuck and clamping it tightly on the motor axis, you just need to connect a power supply device or batteries to the motor.

A similar simplified version of the mini-drill is already capable of drilling holes.

If you have no desire to further burden yourself, and you will not use the tool very often, you can leave it as it is.

However, holding the “naked” motor in your hands is uncomfortable, and the mini-drill looks unattractive. To bring what you started to the finish line, you will need a shell and separate control components.

What to make?

There may be several options for making a mini-drill made by yourself. Your imagination is constrained solely by the availability of the necessary ingredients. The best is a portable drill made with your own hands from an engine from electrical appliances. Engines from a wide variety of instruments can be used.

Let’s list some of them.

  • Hair dryer. This option will be the best, since the resource of the motor from the hair dryer is quite enough for the drill to be able to carry out all its basic tasks. The limiting number of revolutions per minute of this motor is 1500-1800.
  • Audio tape recorder. Due to the fact that the power of the motor of the audio tape recorder is extremely small, the only thing that can come out of this idea is a drill for the boards. The motor is powered from 6 volts, which means that you will need to find a suitable charger or battery.
  • Fishing rod reels. A small drill can be made from a simple ouda reel. Its design will be used as a motor, and by manual rotation it will drive a chuck with a drill. The advantage of this method is the ease of creation and the absence of the need for power from a battery or an electrical network.
  • Radio controlled toys. Engine power depends on the manufacturer. Chinese consumer goods are mainly equipped with weak motors. Examples of famous brands such as WLToys, Maverick or General Silicone are equipped with high quality, durable and, most importantly, strong motors.

The mini-drill assembled on this basis will simply “fly”.

  • From a blender covered with dust somewhere in the bins, you can also make such a useful device as a mini drill or engraver.

Since we do not have to “reinvent the wheel”, since the blender already has its own body and electric motor, we made a separate description of how to make a drill from this device at home.

So, we need:

The scheme for creating our homemade product is as follows:

  • disassemble the blender body;
  • we insert the switch into the case, then we connect it to the electric motor;
  • now we need a collet chuck, we put it on the motor axis;
  • make a hole in the casing to match the size of the clamping device;
  • we assemble the casing, and our homemade mini-drill is ready for use;
  • install a drill or an engraver attachment into the clamping device and use.

It should be noted that the electric motor of the blender is not intended for long-term operation, therefore it must be turned off from time to time to prevent overheating.

However, such a device is quite enough to carry out simple work, for example, drill holes in the boards or engrave parts.

Scope of application

Mini drill is widely used for various tasks.

  • Making holes in plastic, circuit boards for microcircuits and other objects. Of course, the device will not be able to drill through thick iron, but to make a hole in a sheet up to one millimeter thick, there will be enough strength.
  • Screwing and unscrewing small hat and thread screws. Such fasteners come across mainly on automatic machines (switches), electrical wiring boards, in office equipment, as well as in small-sized low-power electric motors.
  • Equipped with special attachments, it can be used as an engraver or grinder; for this, spherical attachments with a rough working plane are placed in its chuck. During rotation, the nozzle processes the part or applies the required pattern.

To improve the result and not overheat the surface, it is advisable to use an oil emulsion that minimizes the friction force.

These are the main areas where mini-drill is practiced, but, in addition to them, it has found extensive use in everyday life, for example, for processing (cleaning) two glued objects made of plastic or glass. When preparing the joints, both products are cleaned, after which the surfaces are adjusted so that the pieces are closely adjacent to each other.

How to make a mini drill with your own hands?

  • Scope of application

  • Power and control components

For small work, in particular, the manufacture of electrical microcircuits, a drill is needed. An ordinary electric drill will not work. It is known that a lot of necessary and useful tooling for a home workshop can simply be created with your own hands. One of these curious homemade products is the mini drill.

Having rummaged in old supplies, it is quite easy to find motors from all kinds of household electrical appliances or toys. All other elements necessary for activity can also be found among old objects.

Power and control components

It’s great if you have a power supply with a controller of incoming power. this will make it possible to change the speed of the drill during operation. If you use an ordinary power supply, it is advisable to install a power button on the casing for even greater comfort. You can use both a 2-position on / off switch and an interrupter button. it depends on your tastes. It would not hurt to equip the shell with a plug suitable for the power supply.

How to make a birdhouse: from boards and logs for different birds

Attracting birds to the site is both useful and pleasant. It is useful because they destroy pests, it is pleasant to listen to their singing and observe the behavior of birds. Therefore, many people come up with the idea. to build a birdhouse with their own hands. People over 40 years old, at the same time, can remember their school years: in labor lessons, boys made houses for birds. But it’s not just site owners who make birdhouses. Often, residents of apartment buildings hang them on trees near the house, on balconies and loggias.

Singing birds wants to be planted in the city

What to make

The answer is unequivocal. from wood, and hardwood: conifers are too resinous. The resin can stain the plumage, resulting in death of the bird. You should not use plywood, chipboard or OSB either. In such birdhouses, rarely anyone settles: glue and binders scare away birds. For the same reason, we collect and fasten the workpieces only with nails or screws, we do not use glue.

Most often, birdhouses are made from boards. The thickness of the boards is at least 20 mm. This thickness is sufficient to maintain a stable temperature inside, which is important when breeding chicks. over, the boards need non-planed, in any case the inner surface should be rough. The front part under the taphole is also specially scratched: along these notches, chicks and birds rise to the taphole.

The wall under the taphole is additionally scratched

To prevent cracking when assembling the boards, we pre-drill holes for the screws. Diameter. slightly less than the diameter of the screw.

Where to hang

Where to hang a birdhouse is also a science. If they are assembled on a tree, then at a height of at least 2.5-3 meters. There should not be paths or busy meta near the selected tree. a well, a bench, etc.

You also need to choose the right place

When choosing a place on a tree, keep in mind that there should be no large branches in front of the entrance: the approach should be free. In this case, you need to deploy it so that the “window” looks to the south. All this increases the chances that tenants will settle in your birdhouse.

Another point: you need to tie or nail it so that the “house” is tilted slightly forward. So it will be easier for the chicks to get out, and less rain will clog.

We make a nesting house. a birdhouse from a log

If the feathered people have a choice. to settle in a nest box or a birdhouse made of boards. they will choose a nest box. It looks more like the usual “dwelling”. a hollow, there are no cracks in it on the sides and, therefore, it is warmer. They are less visible on the tree, which means there are more chances to grow offspring. These are pluses from the point of view of birds. Now about the pluses from the point of view of “producers”: a fallen tree is used for work, but it is free. If you find a suitable one, it will be enough for a large number of birdhouses. On the cons. making the nest boxes longer and more difficult: you have to manually pick out the core, leaving the walls intact.

From the nest to the flight

Now how to find a suitable tree. Aspen is best suited: it usually rots from the inside, and remains firm along the outer edge. Therefore, we go in search of an aspen forest, and there we are looking for a suitable one among the fallen trees: we saw several trunks. It is important to find with a whole edge and a rotten middle. work will go faster.

It is advisable to find such an aspen. with a rotted core, but strong edges

Often such trees have rotten bark, which makes them look unsightly. We clean off the bark, pull the log to the dacha or to the house. There we cut into blocks of suitable size. The dimensions are determined by the diameter. For a birdhouse, the inner diameter of the nest box should be 22-30 cm, respectively, the outer diameter is 27-36 cm.For the titmouse, the segments closer to the top are suitable. the inner diameter is 15-22 cm, the outer diameter is 19-26 cm.

The height of the block also depends on the type of house. a titmouse with a height of 20-40 cm (but they are more willing to settle in low ones), a birdhouse. from 30 to 45 cm.When sawing, try to make the bevel that is below, even, and at the top. at a slight slope. so that rainfall poured from the roof. For the manufacture of roofs and bottoms, you will need trimming boards, you can use unedged and slab.

We take the cut block and begin to pick the core with a chisel. The task is to dig a through hole. After that, even tough wood is easier to chip off. To make the process go faster, you can drill holes with a drill, then break out the jumpers with a chisel.

The task is to dig a through hole

As a rule, the rotten core ends quickly, then you have to chop off pieces of wood with a chisel and a hammer or mallet. But with a hole in the center, it is much easier. longitudinal pieces are chipped off, the work proceeds at a normal speed.

We work with a chisel and a hammer

The walls should remain about 1.5-3 cm. We try to earn the middle more or less smoothly, without large chips. When the walls are selected, we make a tap hole. If there are bitches, you can hollow it out. Or take a crust and a drill, drill in a suitable place. If there is no crown, we take a regular drill, drill holes in a circle, then, using the same chisel, cut through the remaining jumpers.

make, drill, hands

A do-it-yourself birdhouse from a log is almost ready

A piece of board 2-2.5 cm thick goes to the bottom. It is nailed or screwed onto screws. The protruding parts are cut as close to the walls as possible.

It remains to nail the roof. The same board or croaker will do. Before screwing in the self-tapping screw, drill the holes, otherwise the board may split.

Actually, you have already made a birdhouse with your own hands, it remains to protect it from attempts by woodpeckers. If there are knots on the walls, it is advisable to smear them with plasticine (ordinary, children’s). They can also fill up the gaps that remain between the bottom and the roof and the walls: it is rarely possible to fit everything clearly. If you don’t want to cover with plasticine, you can bury it with a hemp rope. It is applied to the gap, and driven into it, with a flat screwdriver (in general, there are special blades for caulking, but they are large. this time, and for “one-time use” to buy them.). If “goes” badly, you can knock on the handle with a hammer.

Caulking “seams” with hemp rope

Security

It is a shame and a pity when birds’ nests are ruined. This is mainly done by cats, and even woodpeckers. Therefore, when you make a birdhouse with your own hands, increase the overhang of the roof. In almost all drawings, it is drawn 5 cm long. In order to protect the birdhouse from the cat, it is necessary to make sure that it cannot reach the entrance. For this, the roof should protrude at least 7 cm, and it is better to add a couple more. for large specimens. This ledge will also protect from slanting rain: the likelihood of chicks getting wet becomes even less.

Another option is to drive nails onto the lid. The cat is unlikely to get hurt, but it will not work out at ease. they will not give nails.

Make the roof protrusion larger so that the cat cannot reach the chicks with its paw

There are several ways to protect chicks from woodpeckers:

  • upholster the entrance with tin:
  • drive a few nails around the taphole;
  • nail an overlay made of wood, the fibers of which run horizontally, onto the taphole area.

All this will prevent the woodpecker from expanding the entrance and getting to the eggs or chicks. The last trick. an overlay. will also complicate the cat’s task: it is more difficult to reach the chick through a long entrance.

Measures against enemies: 1. from woodpeckers, 2.3. from cats

They still save themselves from cats and possible invaders with the help of protective belts. They are made either from tin strips or from “brooms”. You will understand everything by looking at the picture. Please note that the distances must be kept within 3-4 cm. Then the animals will not be able to jump over the protective belts. There should not be knots, feeders and other possible supports between them and the birdhouse.

Birdhouse sizes for different types of birds

To attract different species of birds, the size of the house must be varied. Basically, the proportions of the “body” itself and the entrance area change. The task is to create more familiar nesting conditions for this species.

Bird species Bottom size Birdhouse height Entry size Note
Starlings 1010 cm 30-40 cm about 5cm notch is preferable to a round shape
Titmouse. tits, flycatchers, redstarts, sparrows, passerine owls 10-12 cm 25-30 cm 30-35 mm round entrance
Lesser titmouse or flycatcher (flycatchers, redstarts) 108 cm 25-30 cm 30 mm
Half-duplex 108 cm 20 cm height 33-50 mm across the entire width of the wall notch. longitudinal slit in the entire width of the front wall

As you can see from the table, basically only the height changes. The width remains more or less stable. It’s not worth making more birdhouses. They will stimulate the laying of a greater number of eggs, and the birds will not be able to fully feed a large number of chicks, as a result, the offspring will be weak and, most likely, will die.

Which birds settle in which birdhouses

If you want to attract wagtails, make a nesting box laid to one side: its height will be 10-12 cm, and its width. 35-40 cm, with the same small entrance located approximately in the middle. Wagtails have weak legs, and they cannot climb the high wall to the tap hole. Therefore, such a choice of nesting sites. in the wagtail, it is also advisable to make a trap about 10 cm wide in front of the entrance. so that they can enter “on foot”.

Wagtail birdhouse

The half-duplex requires some explanations. Some birds are accustomed to nesting not in hollows, but in hollows between branches. They rarely settle in a completely closed artificial nesting site. If you want to attract, for example, a gray flycatcher, make a small box for it, in which the entrance goes to the full width of the front wall.

Half-house for gray flycatcher

USB бормашинка своими руками? / Simple USB drill with your own hands

Just keep in mind that some types of squirrels also like to settle in such houses.

There is one more nesting place, which the birds often like more. the nesting house. This is a birdhouse hammered in from a piece of log. Often a dead tree is sawn into blocks of suitable size, turning it into apartments for birds. The height and diameter are selected based on the dimensions that were indicated for a regular birdhouse. The bottom and roof in the nest box are made from a piece of board.

Duplyanka. a birdhouse made of logs

If there is a small entrance in the birdhouse, the lid is made removable. This is necessary in order to be able to process the insides from parasites. Sometimes it happens: birds live in a row for several years, and then they stop settling. It’s just that parasites have multiplied inside. After removing the lid and throwing out the old nesting place, the birdhouse is scalded with boiling water. This is enough. You can also treat the inside with a weak solution of potassium permanganate (slightly pinkish).

How to decorate a birdhouse

While the birdhouse is new, it looks relatively good, but after a couple of months it will darken. This is good for birds. it will become less noticeable and they will only benefit from this. But not all homeowners enjoy looking at such an unsightly “decoration.” To improve the appearance, the birdhouse can be painted, but the colors must be chosen “natural”. brown, gray, shades of green. Do you want your birds to survive? This means that their nest must be masked, and not painted in all the colors of the rainbow, attracting all possible predators.

New meeting with childhood

Products made on their own have been called crafts for a long time. The word is familiar to many from childhood, as well as the occupation itself. Who does not remember how, as a child, he collected cones in the forest and made funny animals out of them. Or the same acorns are an excellent natural material that contributes to the development of children’s imagination.

For the same purposes, colored plasticine, paper, plastic and glass bottles, and so on were used.

Sometimes for adults, making beautiful crafts with their own hands is a kind of invisible thread connecting them with childhood.

And today’s children, like mothers and fathers before, sculpt figures from plasticine, glue applications, assemble stands from cardboard or photo frames.

Parents themselves are ready to sit with their children with pleasure, observing and helping them in difficult moments. If there are any snags, the Internet usually comes to the rescue.

In other cases, beautiful illustrated editions help, where photos of hand-made crafts are located and working stages are described.

What can be turned the most common objects

For example, consider the following handicrafts from improvised means:

Sea pebbles are stones polished by water. The surface of the pebble is covered with red paint, a thin black line is carefully drawn in the middle, small dark dots made of fabric or paper are glued, beads are glued instead of eyes and the ladybug is ready.

She can be placed in a flower pot or glued to it so that it seems that she wants to climb a flower.

Plastic containers (bottles) are taken as blanks for original vases. The plastic is trimmed from above (the upper part is removed), leaving a wide throat. Sand or fine shavings are poured inside to a certain level. This makes the bottom heavier and makes the bottle stable.

The outer walls are painted with paints, one or several colors. Children love to paint. Undoubtedly it will be a bright palette.

For such a vase, dry branches with a cotton imitation of a willow are very suitable.

Glass vases. DIY bottle crafts usually involve the use of plastic and glass.

But glass is dangerous for small children, so do-it-yourself children’s crafts made from glass bottles are best trusted to be done by children when they are old enough.

The procedure for making a decorative glass vase is simple. The surface of the walls is coated with plasticine. Then small “details” are attached to the coating. Such elements can be white and dark beans, large beads, dried watermelon seeds.

You can advise the child to develop a specific drawing in advance to make it easier to create. Perhaps during the period of work, he will have his own ideas.

Many people are engaged in needlework. Some people believe that they have this temporary hobby, but for some it becomes a lifelong favorite hobby.

Handicraft encompasses many activities. Embroidery, knitting, wood cutting, painting, modeling, other interesting work. Some are interesting for both men and women. The phrase means. work, do it yourself. In a word. create.

Interest plus development

The benefits of independent work are enormous. It is not surprising that children are taught from an early age a love of independent creativity. And crafts play an important role.

As a result, many of them become not just decorative elements, but carry a useful, practical purpose. They give the child the opportunity to develop, learning the secrets of the world around him.

Children show interest in everything. Therefore, any material at hand will certainly cause them a storm of imagination and an immediate desire to do something with it.

Tree branches, fallen leaves, seashells and pebbles become interesting for children. From such materials, a lot of interesting things are obtained.

The widest free assortment

However, you can make original items using any suitable, improvised materials and devices that are at home. They can often be found in nature, in the forest.

The results are homemade crafts. They become decorative elements of home design or, for example, a summer cottage landscape.

You can supplement the tools at hand with craft materials such as epoxy for creativity and polymer clay. Such products retain their original shape for a long time and delight with their appearance.

Remember repair

The house has been renovated, so it is worth taking a look at the remnants of the building material. There are pieces of wooden plinth, trimmings of plywood or plasterboard sheets and other remains of building products unsuitable for finishing work?

You don’t have to throw everything in the trash. Some of them can be used as handy material. Real intelligent craftsmen do just that. Their skillful hands produce beautiful coasters for tablets and books, finishing boards, shelves and other things necessary in everyday life.

Safety engineering

  • Use linen gloves to keep out the splinter.
  • Wear safety glasses to keep sawdust out of your eyes.
  • The working tool (knife, saw) must be sharp. Remember that a blunt instrument can easily be injured, it does not fit well in the tree and strives to slip.
  • Check the health of the power tools.
  • Use the ladder to hang the finished birdhouse.
  • If you want to paint your birdhouse, use a water-based, odorless paint that is not bright colors. Try to keep the birdhouse invisible to predators.

DIY birdhouse

At the moment, in big cities there are few hollow trees, and it is difficult for birds to find a house for themselves. Let’s help them and make a birdhouse with our own hands. Thus, we will save the birds from the cold. In this article, we will look at: how to make a do-it-yourself birdhouse?

What to make a birdhouse?

The best material for making a birdhouse is natural hardwood, for example: oak, aspen, linden, birch. Fiberboard (fibreboard), chipboard (chipboard), and plywood are also suitable for a birdhouse. You can use thick cardboard, but such a birdhouse will only last a couple of months. Do not use coniferous wood, as it gives off a sticky resin and negatively affects the health of birds.

Master class for making a birdhouse

You will need: untreated hardwood boards, nails 4 cm long, impregnation or odorless non-toxic water-based paint (optional), a hacksaw or jigsaw, tape measure, hammer, pencil, drill with a 5 cm cutter, brush.

  • Paint and decorate your birdhouse (optional).
  • Hang the birdhouse at a height of 3 meters with a slight inclination forward so that moisture does not get inside.

The bird house is ready! I recommend watching the video master class!
