How to put a disc on a carver trimmer

By making cutting edges

  • with two tines. for young soft grass, lawns;
  • with three teeth. for young grass, dead wood, weeds;
  • with four tines. for tough grass and young tree shoots;
  • with eight teeth, mows grass without too much chopping;
  • with 24 teeth. for hard and dry grass, shrubs, thin trees;
  • with 40 or more teeth. for mowing any grass, bushes, trees;
  • 80 and more. for professional brushcutters.

Blades:

  • with two. for soft and low braids;
  • with three. for mowing weeds;
  • with four or more. for mowing grass for hay.

How to choose?

When choosing a knife for a mower, there are many points to pay attention to. For example, metal toothed discs are most often circular in shape. Teeth can differ in shape, appearance, size. For small trees and dense grass, it is better to give preference to discs with a large number of teeth.

It is worth noting such an advantage of milling discs for brushcutters, as a quick set of revolutions. However, a high moment of inertia does not have the best effect on the machine drive. For dense mowing, for high, as well as for small coarse grass and bushes, it is better to choose circles with 40 or more teeth and perforation. They are able not to chop up vegetation, and at the same time it will practically not wrap around a circle. If the number of teeth is more than 60, then you can safely mow grass and trees with a trunk thickness of up to 7 cm.

Solid discs and discs without holes are very heavy, so they should be chosen for powerful trimmers (over 40 cm3). At the same time, they are convenient for mowing rare grass, dead wood, they are also suitable for mowing with different densities.

Victory-tipped discs should be chosen for mowing plants near obstacles. If you need to mow grass for hay, then steel knives with a large number of teeth with an even sharpening should be preferred. Solid discs with 16 to 32 teeth cut well thick-stemmed plants.

For low power trimmers, paddle discs with a minimum moment of inertia are better suited. The fewer the blades, the more the tool will chop the grass. Thus, discs with two blades are most often used for mowing uniform grass. The main advantage of this species is that it throws cut plants to the side.

When harvesting hay, it is recommended to choose knives with four blades so that the grass is not chopped up.

The thickness of the blades is also important when choosing. Discs can be stamped or forged. The former are distinguished by a low price, but at the same time they can be severely damaged when faced with an obstacle. As for forged discs, they do not chip and cut when colliding with hard objects.

For electric trimmers, choose only plastic blades. Their low weight will not put unnecessary stress on the engine. Soft plastic allows the knives to not break when facing an obstacle, but simply bend or deform slightly. It is recommended to use such cutting elements for cutting thick soft grass.

How to sharpen and deliver?

With constant use, the gas cutter will sooner or later begin to need regular maintenance. One of the important points is the timely sharpening of knives. The metal disc can, of course, work in a dull state, but it cannot be used. This leads to a decrease in performance, overheating of the engine, and wear of the gearbox. Sharpening the teeth or blades is a snap, but if you want, you can simply install new knives.

  • First of all, the knife is removed from the device. It is not recommended to sharpen directly on the brushcutter, as it is unsafe.
  • Next, you need to inspect the cutting element for chips, cracks, damage. If they are, then you will need to install a new disk.
  • You can use a file, sharpener or grinder to sharpen knives. The safest tool is a file that even a beginner can handle. For sharpening, the knife is placed in a vice, and then manually processed at an angle of 30 degrees. This method is considered the highest quality.

When using a grinder, it is important not to overheat the metal, otherwise the disc will quickly become unusable. A grinder with a thin abrasive wheel is suitable for sharpening discs with many teeth.

  • At the end of sharpening, the blade can be reattached to the trimmer and check how efficiently the tool is working. Do not handle the sharp parts of the knife to avoid injury.

Over time, the knife will wear out and should be replaced. Fitting a new disc to the trimmer is a snap. This procedure takes no more than 5 minutes of time, if you follow simple instructions.

  • First you need to remove the protective cover, but on some models it may remain. For example, metal covers cannot be removed from the brushcutter.
  • Next, you should take a key with six faces (hexagon) and use it to block the gearbox. The hole for blocking must be looked for from the side or from the end.
  • After that, it is necessary to unscrew the mowing head from the brushcutter.
  • Then a disc will be installed in its place. It should be noted that the inner diameter of the knife must be completely located in the groove reserved for this. The face of the nozzle should be with the letters facing up.
  • Now you need to fix the disk with a special washer and screw the fastening nut counterclockwise. Before doing this, it is necessary to block the gearbox shaft.
  • The last step is to install a protective plastic casing.

Species overview

For brushcutters, preference should be given to special knives. They allow you to cut taller, tougher grass than line. In addition, the knife is suitable even for pruning young bushes.

There are many types of discs that differ in the cutting edge, shape and material from which they are made.

Each species has its own characteristics.

By material

The disc for the brushcutter can be made of metal or plastic. It should be clarified that plastic blades should be preferred for electric brushcutters. They fit perfectly with the curved shaft of this tool, which doesn’t separate too much between the work area and the mower’s legs. Plastic knives are good at mowing overgrown dry grass, for example, nettle or burdock trunks.

The metal knives are only suitable for the petrol trimmer. This is due to the flat bar that moves the disc away from the feet to a safe distance. Special shaped handles also contribute to safety. When hitting a hard object, part of the impact is absorbed by the engine clutch. Iron knives are suitable for mowing grass from large areas, weeds, bushes, young trees.

Manufacturers overview

There are a lot of manufacturers of discs for brushcutters. It is worth familiarizing yourself with the most popular among them. For example, the Bosch brand is known for its knives with two and three blades. The peculiarity of the knives of this company is that each of the blades can be replaced separately from the others.

Another firm known for its bladed knives is Shark. The advantage of the design is that the blades are fixed relative to each other at an angle of 120 degrees. As a result, it is easy to adjust each of the blades, which is convenient for different types of vegetation. Another feature of knives from this manufacturer is their low weight.

Husqvarna is also known for its multi-tooth knives, especially the hay knives. Ideal for dense and dense grass. Of the minuses, it is worth noting the large weight of the discs and the fact that you cannot turn the knife over if one side of it is sharpened.

Inforce knives do a good job with undergrowth and branches. In practice, the metal from which the cutting elements are made shows itself to be very durable. The only thing is that in some models the victorious soldering is erased very quickly.

The discs cope equally well with different types of grass, as well as with shrubs and trees.

Rezer discs are excellent at mowing grass, weeds, branches. The teeth can withstand well even cutting down trees with a thickness of 6 centimeters or more. However, they have a drawback in the form of winding grass on a shaft.

Patriot produces quality knives. Users note that if you choose the right disk for a specific job, then it will serve for a long time and amaze with its performance. Knives from this manufacturer are very easy to sharpen yourself.

By form

By shape, knives with disc blades and several blades are distinguished, which are at a certain distance from each other. The shape of the blades may also vary. It should be noted that this does not affect either the speed or the quality of the brushcutter’s work.

Currently, manufacturers began to offer, in addition to traditional shapes, also triangular, rectangular and trapezoidal.

As

Circular knife blades and several blades stand out in shape. The shape of the blades can also change. It should be noted that this does not affect either the speed or the performance of the motorcycle.

How to choose?

When choosing a knife for a mower, you should pay attention to many points. For example, discs with metal teeth are often circular in shape. Teeth can vary in shape, appearance, size. For small trees as well as dense grasses, it is better to use discs with a lot of teeth.

It is worth noting the advantage of milling discs for brushcutters, such as fast speed. However, a high moment of inertia does not have the best effect on the drive unit. For dense mowing, tall, and small coarse grasses and bushes, it is better to choose circles with 40 or more teeth and perforations. They are not capable of destroying vegetation, and it will hardly be wrapped around a circle. If the number of teeth exceeds 60, then you can safely mow grass and trees with a trunk thickness of 7 cm.

Hard bladed discs with no holes are heavy and should be chosen for heavy duty trimmers (over 40 cm3). It is also convenient to mow rare grass and dead wood; they are also suitable for mowing with different densities.

Victory discs should be selected for cutting plants near obstacles. If you need to mow grass in hay, choose steel knives with a lot of softly sharpened teeth. Hard discs with 16 to 32 teeth, well-cut plants with thick stems.

For low power trimmers, blades with minimal torque are better suited. The smaller the blade, the more the tool will chop the grass. Yes, double-blade discs are most often used for cutting smooth grass. The main advantage of this species is that it throws cut plants to the side.

When harvesting hay, it is recommended to choose blades with four blades to prevent the grass from being cut.

The thickness of the blade is also important when choosing. Discs can be stamped or forged. The former are notable for their low price, but at the same time they can be seriously damaged when hitting an obstacle. Forged wheels do not chip or cut when hitting hard objects.

For electric trimmers, choose only plastic blades. Their low weight will not put unnecessary stress on the engine. The soft plastic allows the blades to not break when they are on an obstacle, but rather bend or deform slightly. The use of such cutting elements is recommended for cutting thick, soft grass.

Based on materials

The brush disc can be made of metal or plastic. It should be noted that plastic blades are preferred for electric braids. They are great for this tool’s curved bar, which does not delineate too much between the work area and the mowing feet. Plastic knives are good for cutting dry grass like nettles or burdock trunks.

Metal knives are only suitable for gas trimmers. This is due to the flat bar that pushes the disc out of a safe distance. The specially shaped handles also contribute to safety. When struck by a hard object, part of the impact is absorbed by the engine clutch. Iron knives are suitable for cutting grass from large areas, weeds, bushes, young trees.

Spare wheels perfectly cut grass, weeds, branches. The teeth can even withstand the cutting of trees 6 cm or more thick. However, they have the disadvantage of curling the grass on the shaft.

Patriot produces quality knives. Users note that choosing the right drive for a particular job will take a long time and amaze you with its work. Knives from this manufacturer are very easy to chop on your own.

How To Fit Disc To Trimmer Carver

Motorcycle knives. irreplaceable thing. It is enough to choose the right one, and with their help you can mow huge areas of grass. Of course, the variety of knives complicates the task of choosing them somewhat. To understand which cutting element is needed, you need to familiarize yourself with the main ones. You should also know in advance about the correct sharpening and operation of the knives.

There are many types of discs, which differ in cutting edge, shape and material from which they are made.

What knives to put on an electric and gas cutter

Before buying and putting a knife on the brushcutter, we will find out what they are and in what cases they are used. Today manufacturers offer the consumer a large number of types of these consumables. In general, all cutting tools designed for mowing grass can be classified:

  • By the type of material from which it is made;
  • By the shape of its cutting blades.

The main material for the manufacture of trimmer knives can be plastic or metal. The use of such consumables largely depends on two parameters:

  • Type of brushcutters;
  • Mowing areas.

power carving disc tool review for angle grinder

For safety reasons, manufacturers do not recommend putting steel knives on electric trimmers. Almost all brushcutters powered by an electrical network and a battery are equipped with plastic blades. Depending on the manufacturer, they can be of a solid disc-shaped design, with several blades or in the form of a special mowing head providing for the installation of removable plastic blades.

Straight bar for petrol trimmer and curved for electric

To put a metal knife on an electric trimmer is not allowed by its design features.

  • The curved bar of the machine reduces the distance from its working part to the mower’s feet. In the event of a collision of the blades with a stone or other solid object, the scythe is thrown to the feet.
  • The high torque we mentioned above, in the event of a metal blade hitting a hard object, transfers a large load to the trimmer flex shaft and its motor. What causes them to fail prematurely.
  • The handle of the electric scythe most often does not have a limiting bar acting as a stop. Which does not exclude injury to the legs.

It is these features that make it possible to use exclusively plastic knives on trimmers with electric motors. When colliding with an obstacle, the blades are destroyed, thereby protecting the mower’s legs from possible injury.

Plastic knives do a good job on overgrown and dry grass. They can mow nettles and burdock stalks.

The use of metal knives only on gasoline trimmers is also due to design features.

  • Straight bar design increases leg clearance for complete safety.
  • Comfortable U-shaped and J-shaped handles provide a firm grip. The D-shaped handles of the brushcutter are equipped with a limiter that rests on the leg of the mower, which does not allow the head to come close to the feet when the cutting disc meets a solid obstacle.
  • The clutch of the gasoline engine allows for smooth acceleration to the optimum level. And when the blade hits a hard surface, it is able to absorb part of the impact.

Thus, petrol trimmers with a metal blade installed are best used in large areas. They will successfully cope not only with high coarse grass, weeds, burdocks and nettles, but also shrubs, as well as young trees.

The shape of the disc blades supplied to the trimmer in no way affects the quality of the work performed. Speed does not depend on them either. Triangular, trapezoidal, rectangular shapes are all the marketing ploy of manufacturers.

If you plan on making hay, it is best to use knives with a large number of blades on the brushcutter. Note the discs with eight teeth, or discs with four large blades and four additional blades. Two and three bladed knives will chop the grass hard.

Why you need to put the knife on the trimmer

A trimmer with a knife mounted on it is most convenient to use for more comfortable mowing of tall and coarse grass in the country. The line on the brushcutter in such cases does not cope. Thin tears very quickly. Using 2.3mm thick cord or homemade rods with cables causes the vegetation to wrap around the spool. This increases the load on the engine. As a result, the piston group and other moving parts of the unit wear out very quickly.

Wood Carving Disc Review

If the weeds are mowed with an electric trimmer without a knife, only a fishing line, even a thick one with a curly section, will not solve the problem. There is always a risk of overheating the motor and damaging the flexible shaft. And it’s all about the large torque of the electric motor. Grass wrapped around the spindle creates strong resistance to the shaft, which resembles a speedometer cable, which does not withstand and twists.

In order to protect the equipment from premature wear, manufacturers have provided for the possibility of installing special knives on the trimmers. The design and shape of the existing cutting elements allows you to easily cope not only with coarse and overgrown grass, but also successfully deal with young shrub growth.

How to put the knife on the trimmer

With the arrival of summer, many owners of personal plots are worried about the question of how to put the knife on the trimmer. No less relevant are the questions of why and when it is advisable to replace the line on the brushcutter with a more durable cutting element. In our article we will try to disassemble all this and give useful recommendations to summer residents.

How to put a knife on the trimmer correctly

Putting the knife on the trimmer is not that difficult. The manufacturer completes its tools with a special pin that allows you to block the gearbox and a wrench with which the spool and fishing line are unscrewed. The most important thing is to observe safety precautions and the sequence of assembly and disassembly when changing cutting elements.

The algorithm for setting the knife to the trimmer is as follows:

  • Remove the protective cover;
  • We block the drive. To do this, it is necessary to align two holes. in the shaft hub and in the gearbox cup. After combining them, insert a pin into the holes;
  • We unscrew the spool with line or the fastening nut holding the boot (if the trimmer has not been used yet) from the hub clockwise;
  • Next, we install the cutting knife, so that the slots on the hub washer coincide with the recesses in the hole of the cutting disc;
  • Install the boot;
  • We tighten the fastening nut (counterclockwise) while holding the locking pin;
  • We tighten it using a tubular wrench;
  • Putting the protective cover back in place.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated. Now you can safely start mowing weeds on the site.

DIY trimmer attachment

For many summer residents, the trimmer has long become a familiar and almost irreplaceable technique. But it is not always possible to purchase a model that meets all needs. It happens that the trimmer copes with fresh young vegetation easily, but there is a desire to clear a place behind the fence or along the access road, and the tall ripened grass turns out to be too tough for the technique.

DIY trimmer attachment

We offer the option of self-production of the trimmer head from simple (almost improvised) tools.

Materials:

  • metal perforated plate (100 mm x 240 mm)
  • 2 hacksaw blades for metal
  • 4 screws and 4 nuts M5
  • 4 washers and 4 oversized washers

From a safety point of view, hacksaw blades should not be completely hardened.

Everything you need to make a nozzle

The most difficult thing in making a nozzle is to symmetrically mark and make holes for the knives and the trimmer shaft. That is why a finished perforated plate is chosen.

Progress:

First you need to make the base of the nozzle. To do this, cut a square with a side of 100 mm from a metal plate with a grinder. You need to mark it in such a way that there is a hole exactly in the center (at the intersection of the diagonals). To do this, measure a distance of 50 mm from the center of the selected hole perpendicular to the short side of the plate and outline the trim lines.

We mark the base of the nozzle

Cut off the excess and get a square of 100 mm x 100 mm. Now you need to round off the corners a little and drill out the central hole for the trimmer shaft.

Round off the corners and drill the center hole for the trimmer shaft

We cut the canvases for metal, measuring 8 cm from each end.We get 4 blanks with ready-made holes.

We cut canvases for metal

These blanks need to be shaped like knives. To do this, we outline the cut line by eye (special accuracy is not required), fasten all 4 blanks together and grind off the excess.

Cut out knives from blanks

Bowl Carving 1, 2, 3 with Maverick

As a result, we get knives of the same weight and size, they can be sharpened a little on one side. Now all parts of the homemade trimmer attachment are prepared, you can start assembling.

Everything is ready for assembly

Put a small washer on the screw and insert it into the corner hole. We put on the knife from above, placing the sharpened side in the direction of rotation of the trimmer shaft. This is followed by a large washer and a nut that is not tightened so that the knife rotates freely. We attach the other 3 knives in the same way.

Fixing the knives

The end of the screw must be riveted so that the nut does not fly off.

The end of the screw must be riveted

The attachment is ready. It is installed with nuts to the ground and fixed in the same way as the three-blade knife that comes with the trimmer. When colliding with a stone, the knives fold and go inside a little.

This idea was suggested by our regular video author Tatiana (Tula region). You can see in more detail the whole process of making such a trimmer attachment and find out some of the nuances by watching the video that she prepared.

When working with a trimmer, it is important not to forget about safety, using any attachments, especially homemade ones.

We suggest discussing this idea in the comments to the publication. Share your thoughts with us, and also tell us about your good solutions.

Without accepting any of the sides of this sharp (literally and figuratively) discussion, let me show you one of the latest models of brushcutters from the German company Robert Bosch. It provides for both a deflecting knife and an arcuate bracket, which excludes the knife “striking” on objects not intended by mowing. I show the general view of the brushcutter and the knife itself, in two positions. General view of brushcutters

Knife in a deflected state

Folded knife

Good evening everyone!
Exactly three years have passed since the discussion of the “acute” problem for the trimmer. Over the past 1000 days, a clear picture has emerged: “Glory to the author, the craftsman, who conducts an experiment on himself to reach the yield point of the metal from which these knives are made. He has every right to risk his own health. ” Nowadays in stunt films you can often see a frvza. “Do not try to repeat the movie stunts that were performed by professional stuntmen.” The very first article was supposed to end with approximately the same phrase: “Dear summer residents. This is my personal experiment. If you are not confident in your locksmith’s abilities, please do not repeat it. AND MOST IMPORTANT. I am not responsible for the operation of the tool, made in the footsteps of my articles.”
And the last thing. Do I see errors, judging by the photographs, of the execution of this tool. Yes, I see, and a rude one. Look closely at the plate, which is the carrier for the four knives. Look closely at the FAR RIGHT HOLE in the photo.

Alas, the author of this device does not even suspect how the hole for the shaft should be made.

I inform you that the distance from the point of the hole closest to the edge of the plate to the very edge should be NOT LESS than the diameter of the hole itself. Students of mechanics will learn this truth no later than the second year of the institute. What do we see here? A thin isthmus resembling a narrow PEREKOP, making a peninsula out of the Crimea. This is a priori the place that is weak in this design. it experiences the same loads as other knives, but the “digging” there is very thin.
Where it is thin, there and.
I would like to hope, and quite sincerely, that over these three years this isthmus has not undergone loads comparable to the yield point of this metal, but rather the alloy from which the perforated plate is stamped.

Review on Trimmer petrol CARVER GBC-043M

Everyone knows what a petrol trimmer is needed for, aka a petrol cutter. I will not describe for a long time about my agony of choice, I will only say that in this model I was attracted by a few little things when compared with other such Chinese. I did not consider expensive models like husqvarna, because I am not a professional haymaker.

Packaging and equipment

The trimmer is supplied in two separate boxes. In one there is a bar with a gearbox, in the second there is a motor and everything else.

Disassembled dimensions are small. Fits into a passenger car without any problems.

The main characteristics are indicated on the box with the engine.

as well as the trimmer itself is shown next to the list of pseudo “technologies” invented by marketers.

The Carver brand belongs to URALOPTINSTRUMENT LLC, the box contains a Russian barcode, but we all know where the legs grow from all these trimmers.

Packed well, cardboard is thick, all parts are in bags. If you do not throw, there will be no problems.

The package bundle pleased me, there is everything you need:

  • Trimmer (motor handles, shafts, casing)
  • Disc for coarse grass / weeds / bushes
  • Line cassette
  • Measuring canister (only 600ml with a tank volume of 950ml)
  • Unloading
  • 2 hex keys and spark plug wrench
  • Plastic blade guard
  • Warranty card with instructions

Appearance

The place where the casing is attached to the shaft looks good. The nuts are sealed in plastic. The plastic itself is good for such a price.

The gearbox is lubricated from the factory. The manufacturer recommends adding grease every 10 hours of operation.

Place of attachment of the rod to the engine:

Mating part of the bar:

The bar is attached with 4 hexagon bolts. The bolts have a spring washer to prevent loosening. The metal of the engine is rawhide silumin, therefore, with the slightest effort, the thread breaks off, and these are complete hexagons with a scanty lever! Caution!

Place of attachment of the handles to the bar. It looks good, but it’s still the same rawhide silumin. It is impossible to fix the handles properly, or the thread will break, or the handle will dangle. My right handle was constantly shifting during work.

The sleeve between the handles doesn’t help. It is hollow and made of soft plastic. The manufacturer presents its presence as a feature and work on errors (see the manufacturer’s website).

The handles are well done. Rubber coated. The control is convenient. There is a fuse and the ability to fix the gas.

A sticker on the case with the main characteristics:

Warning / reminder on filter housing:

Another useful sticker, albeit with a typical Chinese mistake. No need to guess about the position of the damper.

Starter. I did not let me down, but usually this is a weak point in such trimmers.

Rubber plug for the wire going to the candle. Caution! Do not put your hand here when you wind up, the insulation breaks through!

The filter cover can be removed without tools. The filter also consists of a piece of foam rubber.

and metal mesh.

Next is the air damper.

The throttle cable inlet looks good. The carburetor is adjusted adequately from the factory. Strong vibration occurs only when the fuel runs out and the mixture is lean.

This is how the candlestick looks “technologically”. In fact, it is a spring, stuck with its ends into a wire. In addition, it cannot be removed together with the protective rubber, and this is necessary to unscrew the plug and add oil to the cylinder before the first start. Burrs on the plastic are also noticeable.

Candle of unknown origin. Twisted VERY tight. Unscrewing with a complete key without an additional lever is almost unrealistic.

Let’s look into the top hat. What is it? scratches and cutter marks? Where is the additional “porous chrome plating” so painted on the packaging? Oh, those Chinese.

The unloading was quite comfortable, the shoulders do not rub, if the position is adjusted normally.

Carabiner for fastening the scythe. The carabiner itself is fixed on the unloading with a latch with a rubber tail.

Protective shield made entirely of plastic.

The latch on the chest is also plastic.

The line spool has a button for quick line release during operation. Out of the box, for some reason, all in scratches, as if she had already been mowed.

Line “twisted square”.

Gas cutter assembly:

Experience of use

My task was to mow 13-16 acres in such grass mixed with weeds:

Benzokosa, although with reservations, coped with its task. I only mowed with a disc. It all took 5 liters of 92 gasoline and a little oil.

The braid starts up without problems. Enough power with a margin.

Further about breakdowns.

The left handle came off almost immediately. The right one, fortunately, is fixed with a screw.

After a couple of hours of use, the carabiner clip fell off on unloading. I wonder who thought of fixing elastic rubber with rivets at the place of dynamic load? Solved the problem by installing two mini-carabiners instead of this latch.

The appearance of the protective shield after 13 acres. I’m afraid it won’t last long.

Here you can see the quality of “powder” painting of the gearbox, which is touted on the manufacturer’s website. By the way, there are no complaints about the disk, it mows perfectly.

Cheap and cheerful, as they say. If you are ready to put up with all of the above disadvantages and fix them yourself, then this is a good choice among similar Chinese trimmers, otherwise look at more expensive models from well-known manufacturers (husqvarna, calm, makita, etc.).

No extra vibration

Power with a margin

Review on Trimmer petrol CARVER PROMO PBC-52

Good day, I present to your attention my review of the CARVER PROMO PBC-52 trimmer. I decided to summarize the material that I dug up when choosing a trimmer for personal relatively infrequent use, I hope it will be useful to someone

Let’s start, part one CHOICE (or why exactly PBC-52)

Trimmers are different, but they have a similar design: a bar (pipe) on one side of which an engine is fixed, on the other a mowing mechanism (a knife or a reel with fishing line), and a handle is also attached to the bar (it can be of different shapes: in the form of the letter T or U ( bicycle), D, J). All this simple design is suspended on the beloved one with the help of a shoulder strap. You guessed it the most important part. this is an engine, let’s dwell on this in more detail.

Motors are: 1. Electric. pluses: lighter, quieter, no need for refueling and preparation of a fuel mixture; cons: attachment to the outlet (extension cord; battery charge, if any, etc.). 2. Gasoline. pluses: high power, freedom of movement; minuses. heavier, you need to refuel. Gasoline engines are: A) two-stroke. the most common. since cheaper, mixtures of gasoline and oil work; B) four-stroke, more expensive, but less noisy.

After weighing all the pros and cons, my choice fell on a gasoline two-stroke engine. Among them, the choice is also quite large. What I paid attention to: power (measured in watts or horsepower) and engine displacement. Directly dependent parameters. Of course, the more the better, but keep in mind that more powerful specimens “eat” the fuel mixture more (while they have a larger volume of the fuel tank and generally weigh more.

Part 2 PURCHASE

Looking for a compromise between power / weight / price for a long time, I stopped the CARVER PROMO PBC-52 device with the characteristics: power 3.0 hp. / weight 8 kg /.

Ordered, a day later this devay arrived, in this form (rod box)

The scope of delivery includes: manual, engine with fuel tank, clutch, non-collapsible bar, knife, reel with line, reducer for fastening the knife / line, handle (collapsible, consists of two parts), protective cover, shoulder strap, container for preparation of the mixture, bolts, hexagons, screwdriver-wrench.

Assembly diagram and location of the main elements of the gasoline trimmer:

Assembling the trimmer is not a complicated process, but it requires attention and perseverance. I will briefly describe it, tk. some points are omitted in the instructions.

We assemble the handle, which consists of two parts, connected by an appropriate bracket:

We attach the clutch to the engine !! IMPORTANT !! LONG bolts:

We attach the reducer to the rod, to the side of the rod where the hole is closer to the edge:

We put a clamp on the bar for fastening the belt:

We connect the free end of the rod to the clutch:

We fix the handle on the bar (the accelerator lever should be on the right:

disc, carver, trimmer

We attach the belt to the appropriate clamp:

Install the line cutter on the protective cover:

We install the protective cover over the gearbox:

As a result of the performed manipulations, we should get something as follows.

!!IMPORTANT!! Be sure to check that all screw connections are properly tightened and that the cutting tool and guard are properly and securely fastened.

We lay the unit on a flat surface.

First you need to prepare a fuel mixture, the composition of which is oil for two-stroke engines, gasoline. The proportions you are on the package with oil. The manufacturer of this trimmer recommends to overexpose exactly them and any of their own recommendations. The only remark is that for the first start it is recommended to increase the amount of oil by about 10% of the specified rate. Pour the prepared mixture into the gas tank. Set the throttle position lever to the closed position. We pump fuel into the carburetor by pressing the fuel pumping button (in the photo there is a transparent silicone “pimp”), while a mixture should appear in the fuel pipe.

Press the accelerator lever on the handle and fix it with the button to the start position.

Everything from preparation. We pass to the start itself: we sharply pull the starter starter rope handle. We repeat these movements until the first characteristic exhaust appears, after which we move the throttle lever to the “ON” (open) position. Pull the starter rope handle again, the engine should run at increased speed.

PART 5 MAINTENANCE (well, or a little from personal experience)

The key to long-term performance of your trimmer. this is his timely service.

Therefore, I recommend: 1. Removing visible dirt after each work session 2. Cleaning the ventilation windows 3. Lubricating the gearbox (meaning the cavity inside the gearbox) 4. Cleaning the muffler 5. Changing the fuel filter element. 6.cleaning the spark plug or replacing it (if the gap between the electrodes is outside the limits of 0.6-0.7 mm.)

In general, I am satisfied with the unit, the operating experience at the time of writing the review is 1 month, no complaints. In terms of quality, of course, this is not Husqvarna or Stihl, but the price tag here is completely different. Ideal for those looking for an inexpensive, powerful trimmer for their private garden.

When is the use of knives relevant?

When using brushcutters in summer cottages, the most popular attachment is the fishing line. It has a low price, is suitable for different trim heads, and is safe to use. The disadvantage of using a fishing line is that it is convenient only for mowing low growth. In other situations, the string will kick in immediately, regardless of whether a petrol or electric trimmer is used. In addition, vegetation is wound around the spindle, which creates significant resistance on the shaft and leads to its breakage. It can also provoke failure of the piston system in petrol cutters or engine burnout in electric trimmers.

Therefore, for mowing tall or hard vegetation, various attachments are used. So, for harvesting high and coarse grass, thin shoots of trees and shrubs, it is better to install and use a disc. This nozzle clogs much less often, which contributes to the greater wear resistance of the equipment.

On a note! Due to the fact that the engine of electric trimmers and battery models is less powerful than on petrol cutters, therefore the use of discs is more relevant for petrol mowers.

Features of discs for brushcutters

Knife discs are available in plastic and metal, as well as in various shapes to perform diverse tasks.

  • Two-, three- and four-bladed knives with pronounced blades are used for mowing grass and tree growth. However, they are not suitable for making hay, as they grind the shoots, chopping them several times.
  • Massive four-blade discs are designed not only for clearing the ground from grass, but also for mowing hay. They prevent repeated cutting of the shoots, thus making them suitable for harvesting for the winter.
  • Discs with cutting edges around the perimeter are relevant for beveling reeds and reeds. These knives are very heavy. a necessary quality to cut through thick stems.
  • Professional saw blades for hedge trimmers and brushcutters for cutting small trees and bushes.

Plastic knives are used as an alternative to metal discs. They do not need to be firmly fixed in the head, but they rotate as a result of centrifugal force. The strength of plastic knives is high, so the service life is quite long.

On a note! The advantage of plastic discs is that, hitting an insurmountable obstacle, they bounce off, and repeated contact does not occur.

How to install a disc on a trimmer

Attaching the blade to the trimmer is very simple. For this, a complete wrench is used to disconnect the cutting attachment and a pin that locks the gearbox. The procedure is as follows.

  • First of all, the electric trimmer should be disconnected from the network, the petrol trimmer should be simply turned off. Disconnect the protective cover and move to the side.
  • Next, you need to align the holes on the gearbox and the shaft in order to insert a pin into them and block the drive.
  • If a spool with line was used, it must be unscrewed clockwise.
  • Then you need to find a nut to twist the knife.
  • The next step is to install the knives. Trimmer owners often wonder which side to put the disc on. This must be done so that the marking with numbers and letters is on top.
  • Then you need to put the boot on top, and above it. the fixing nut, which must be tightened tightly with a wrench.
  • The last step is to install the protective cover.

As you can see, the procedure is very simple and the same for many brands, whether it is Shtil or Husqvarna.

On a note! If the owner of the device wants to replace the disc back on the line, you can install the reel with it in the same way.

Disc sharpening

Regardless of the quality of the disc, over time it becomes dull and begins to chop grass poorly. If the knives are still relatively new, and replacement is impractical, you can sharpen them yourself.

Important! For sharpening, only those discs that are not soldered from hard materials are suitable. Such parts are thrown away, and new ones are acquired instead.

To sharpen discs, you must:

  • disassemble the trimmer, remove the knives;
  • carefully inspect the disc. if cracks are found, it is better to replace the part with a new one, since its further operation is unsafe;
  • bent blades can be gently bent with a hammer;
  • given the size of the disc, you need to choose the right file for metal, this will ensure more convenient work;
  • sharpen all upper cutting edges of the discs at an angle of 30 °;
  • reassemble the trimmer in reverse order.

To sharpen the disc, you can use an emery machine at low speeds with a medium grit grinding wheel. With such a tool, the process will move much faster. For safety, you need to wear gloves on your hands, and a protective mask or goggles on your face.

So, for mowing grass on gasoline and electric trimmers, plastic and metal discs of various shapes and with a different set of blades are used. They are selected in accordance with the type of work performed and the size of the cultivated area. If the blades on the mower are dull, it is easy to sharpen them or change them yourself. Despite the simplicity of the procedure, you need to be careful and remember about safety, so as not to injure yourself through negligence or damage the equipment. A more detailed description of replacing the knives in relation to a specific trimmer model can be found in the operating instructions or on the manufacturer’s official website. For clarity, the general scheme of the process is shown in the video.

Disk selection criteria

It is necessary to choose a plastic or metal knife, taking into account the area of the site that is planned to be processed, as well as the type of trimmer. electric or gasoline. The number of blades will depend on which growth needs to be removed with the tool. You can choose the desired disc shape, the number of blades and the material of manufacture using the instructions for use of the device. Usually it prescribes which cutters are recommended to be used for solving certain tasks.

Rules for replacing knives on the grass trimmer

If the trimmer disc is used regularly, it will need to be removed from time to time and sharpened or replaced with a new one. This part can be made of metal or plastic, have a different number of blades, but the replacement process remains the same. over, this procedure is similar for equipment from different manufacturers, be it Carver or Huter, but slight differences are possible. It is quite simple to change the knife on the trimmer if you follow the safety precautions and know the correct procedure, the description of which can be found in the user manual. The whole process of replacing step by step, as well as the method of self-sharpening knives, will be described in this material.

Blades

The number of blades is important when solving diverse tasks. So, to grind the grass, two or three pieces are enough. To harvest hay, it is necessary that there are four to eight blades on the disc. To destroy small shoots of trees and shrubs, instead of blades on the disks, there should be a large number of small teeth.
