How to Saw Fibreboard Panels Without Chipping

Features and recommendations

Experts and connoisseurs advise doing this kind of work with electric jigsaws, just because an ordinary hand hacksaw is too rough. It does not allow you to cut the material straight enough. The correct sequence of steps is as follows:

preparation of tools (ruler, jigsaw, measuring tape, awl or other sharp device for drawing on chipboard);

addition of these tools (if necessary) with a square for laying right angles;

measuring the desired part (with a margin of 0.2 cm so that you can fit);

actually, the cut along the laid mowing line;

completion of the saw cut with sandpaper;

with very poor quality of the end. rubbing it with a fine, similar in tone to a chipboard.

What else do you need to know?

When it is planned to saw off everything without chips on one side, it is permissible to use saws with both upper and lower teeth. Most craftsmen prefer small, straight-toothed files. Such devices chip less material, but at the same time they work pretty well. After the saw cut, it is best to process the ends with emery stretched over even bars. If there is no ready-made crayon of a suitable color, you can mix different crayons, like paints in the artist’s palette, and get a new color.

To cut without errors and moreover quickly, you must always take into account the brand markings. There is no universally binding standard for designations yet, but almost all companies strictly follow the classification developed by Bosch specialists. Or at least indicate it along with their own abbreviations and terms. For cutting wood and wood-based products, CV files (sometimes referred to as HCS) are well suited.

For processing laminated panels, Hardwood saws are intended (they are also useful, we note, when processing hardwood).

Some inscriptions indicate in which mode the tool works optimally:

basic. a simple blade that allows you to make a clean cut of high quality;

speed. a device whose teeth are set apart (this allows you to cut faster);

clean. a canvas that has not been diluted (usually gives the cleanest cut).

If the workpiece is relatively thick, preferably a saw blade with large incisors that have not been set, then there will be minimal deviation from the vertical. The longitudinal (in relation to the fibers) cut is most often made with helical saws. For a transverse, a straight blade is better. When you plan to make a blank for furniture, it is advisable to choose a less productive, but more accurate tool. Since most of the saws produced now cut the material when retracted, the workpiece will need to be processed from the inside out.

How to Saw Laminated Chipboard with a Jigsaw Without Chipping?

Laminated chipboard is one of the most widespread materials used in the independent manufacture of furniture. You can talk about its advantages and disadvantages for a long time. But it’s much more important to learn how to cut Laminated Chipboard with a jigsaw without chipping.

Completing of the work

When the file is selected, you still need to properly saw the laminated board at home. Experts recommend sawing along a guide (a rail clamped in clamps is also suitable). If you use a new, unworn blade, you can cut the chipboard as cleanly as you would with a circular saw. It is advisable to turn on the jigsaw at the lowest speed possible. This will significantly increase the resource of each file used.

The canvases themselves are placed at right angles to the sole of the jigsaw. The easiest way to adjust the angle is with a square or protractor. Important: the straight line passing through the cutting edge of the tool must be parallel to the rigidly fixed part of the jigsaw. It is recommended to use special inserts to reduce the chance of splitting. But to make them work more efficiently, they usually cut the laminate layer on the side where the blade will come out.

Tools and materials

If possible, it is best to cut the chipboard with a hand milling cutter using homemade guides. This method is not very convenient when cutting large sheets, because when working with this tool, a table is required. In addition, with this method, the cutters have to be changed frequently. But as a result, you will get cleanly processed, “chamfered” edges.

Electric Jigsaw. Most Popular Cutting Tool Particle Board

Some craftsmen use a jigsaw in their work, however, in the absence of skill, it is difficult to cut exactly, and chips can form.

You can try to install a bimetallic blade with teeth, pointed inwardly, designed for laminate on the jigsaw. Cutting with a jigsaw should be increased by increasing the speed, with a small feed, so that no breaks are formed.

If such methods do not suit you, then for cutting the Chipboard at home, we will prepare for work:

  • a hacksaw with fine teeth (one that is best suited for metal work). In this case, the teeth must be divorced by 1/2 of the blade thickness and be hardened;
  • paper adhesive tape;
  • file for rough processing of the cut mowing line;
  • sanding paper for finishing the cut line.

How to Saw Chip-Free Chipboard?

Before starting to cut a chipboard, especially a laminated one, we cut a line with a sharp tool, along which we will cut and glue paper tape with a sticky layer along it. This will help to minimize damage to the decorative layer.

To keep the chips as small as possible, it is necessary to direct the movement of the hacksaw at an acute angle to the surface (no more than 30 °). Movements should be smooth, without excessive pressure on the plate and sharp jerks.

If chips still could not be avoided, we process the cut first with a file, working in the direction from the edges to the center, and then with a fine-grained sandpaper. It is also possible to mask all defects by applying a flexible profile where possible.

Sawing Chipboard. Methods and Processing Methods

[contents] If you have tried to cut a chipboard at home at least once, then you know for sure that this work is by no means easy and requires not only skill, but also a good tool. Particularly difficult to process is laminated chipboard, when sawing it often produces a lot of chips. That is why many craftsmen, faced with such a problem, come to the conclusion that it is better to saw the chipboard when buying, especially since many trading organizations provide such services and the price for them is quite acceptable.

Sawing Chipboard is carried out using precise panel saws, which will help to obtain workpieces of a given size and shape.

Modern models allow you to cut plate materials evenly, not only horizontally and vertically, but also at an angle.

In addition to cutting sheets, they will help you calculate and provide in the form of a visual video file several options for competent and economical cutting of sheet material (using special computer programs) and, if necessary, perform edging. However, if for some reason you prefer to do this work yourself, you will have to do some preparatory work before sawing the chipboard.

Figured cutting

It is even more difficult to obtain curved surfaces of a given configuration at home, while you will have to spend additional money on purchasing a router, which will help you get rid of chips and jags formed when you cut the chipboard.

The price of a manual router can fluctuate significantly, depending on the manufacturer, power, and the availability of additional functions. If you do not plan to be engaged in the production of furniture professionally, then it is advisable to purchase an inexpensive model.

To cut the chipboard, follow these steps:

  • having marked out the contours of the necessary part on the chipboard sheet, we cut it out with an electric jigsaw, trying to cut, retreating just a couple of millimeters from the intended mowing line of the cut;
  • we make templates of the design radius from Fiberboard or plywood and carefully grind the ends with sandpaper;
  • attaching the template to the part to be trimmed, clamp it with clamps and process it with a manual copy milling cutter with a bearing, removing excess material exactly to the intended mowing line.

In this case, it does not matter which cutter (with two or four knives used). The only condition is that the knives must grasp the cut thickness being processed along the entire height. After processing, it remains only to stick the edge on the part. How it’s done. look at

What You Can’t Saw Chipboard

If the volume of work is large enough and the quality requirements are low, some craftsmen advise to saw the chipboard at home using a grinder (an angle grinder, commonly called an “angle grinder”). In doing so, they use a disc designed for working with wood. To make cutting easier, a guide bar is fixed along the mowing line of the cut with the help of clamps. Sawing chipboard using an angle grinder can sometimes be seen in the video.

Attention, important! This method is absolutely unacceptable, since the probability of injury during work is very high, especially if large-diameter discs are used and the protective cover is removed from the grinder.

How and How to Cut Fiberboard?

A controversial issue, everyone has their own opinion on this matter.

You can use any tool (angle grinder, jigsaw of any type, hacksaw, saw :)), but in order to get it without chips and scoring, it is better to use a circular saw or you can try with a circular saw. If this is not possible, then I prefer an electric jigsaw, and a file with fine teeth to it, but here the main thing. reliable emphasis. It’s hard to do it straight without flaws at all. I have not done such a delicate job as you, with Fiberboard, but you can use a jigsaw, and then walk on top with a block to trim everything.

And yet, I didn’t have to work, but I heard that there are special nozzles with a reverse direction of the teeth, they are kind of designed specifically for Laminated Particleboard and Fiberboard.

And the best option. take material with dimensions (or already finished cutting) and go to the point with special equipment, this service is not so expensive, the main thing is. deliver a sheet there, if there are no problems with this, then feel free to contact such a workshop

Fiberboard is a very easy-to-use material, so it can be cut with any tool at hand, but if you want to get a very smooth cutting edge immediately, without additional processing, then use hand-held circular saws. In particular, in the picture below you can see a mini circular saw, with which the worker cuts the panel. The cut turns out to be very even, and in the future it is enough to trim it a little with zero, sandpaper. To get an even cut, the most important thing is to make neat and correct markings. For marking, we use a tape measure, ruler, corner, level or laser level. Marking the cutting line, place the Fiberboard sheet on the workbench, where there should be space under the sheet to pass the cutting edge of the circular saw.

The photo below shows a Makita circular saw. This is a more powerful tool and will suit both thicker material and larger jobs.

In principle, in some cases, when the issue of convenience of work will be decisive, you can use a special electric saw for plywood, and this is the third photo.

Anything. any woodworking tool designed for sawing: a hacksaw (both for wood and metal), an electric or ordinary jigsaw, a circular saw, a router.

Fiberboard. the material is equally strong, so it can be cut equally in any direction. At the same time, it is better to keep its glossy surface up so that it does not scratch and (if the fibreboard is covered with a film) bulge during the working movement of the saw.

Tools that can be used to saw panels

As already mentioned, Fiberboard panels are an excellent cladding material. Most often they are used to decorate an office, loggia, hallway, corridor. Of these, you can mount not only walls, but also the ceiling.

They go well with wooden or plastic clapboard, tiles. Experts do not advise using such boards in damp rooms, since the moisture will swell the wood. A variety of equipment is used to cut the fibreboard.

Cut Melamine With No Chips

Many people recommend cutting slabs with a jigsaw. Such a tool is suitable when cutting will be carried out indoors. Then it will be possible to connect a vacuum cleaner to it. The result is a straight cut. In which case, you can trim it with sandpaper or zero.

The main thing is to outline a neat marking before sawing the slab. To do this, use a corner, ruler, tape measure, laser level or an ordinary level.

You can also cut the fibreboard with a metal hacksaw. Such a tool cuts carefully and accurately, but very slowly. Therefore, it is recommended to use a hacksaw when you need to adjust something. The angle grinder will cut the slab much faster.

The cut is accurate, only during operation the tool generates a lot of dust. It is best to work with an angle grinder on the street, or when the house is undergoing major repairs.

How to Saw Fiberboard Panel?

Fiberboard is a particle board. Such a plate is environmentally friendly, because there are no phenol and paraffin compounds in it. The panel contains wood dust, which was obtained from sawdust. They are pre-crushed, then dried and sent to the oven for heat treatment. When heated, sawdust releases lignin.

It is he who glues the powdery mass. Then the mixture is sent for pressure testing. When the product cools down, it is processed again and cut into certain pieces. Next, they are pasted over with melamine film, which imitates the pattern of wood.

The resulting panels have good thermal conductivity. Their only drawback is that the melamine film is easily damaged. It often has scratches and stains. But it is easy to fix it with paint. This material is easy to work with. Note that the panels differ in size and design, although they are made using the same technology.

So, on sale you can find veneered panels. in which the top layer is a natural wood veneer. Such a product looks natural and expensive. Laminated panels are in demand. They are often used for wall cladding. There are also panels painted with paint.

Installation of slabs

At first glance, the installation of Fibreboard appears to be very difficult. But the structure is as easy to assemble as a regular children’s puzzle. The connection of the panels is the same as for PVC: using tenons and grooves. One side of the panel will be pointed and the other will be forked. Therefore, by inserting the edge of the panel into the groove, you will receive a prefabricated structure.

If the panel will be attached to the wall, then it is imperative to equip the crate. Fiberboard does not like moisture. The air gap will provide air circulation. over, the crate is best done from wooden planks. Fix the panels on them with glue or mechanical fasteners.

As already noted, the panels can be installed with glue. This is the most common and simplest option. “Liquid nails” are used, which must be applied in a thick layer from the seamy side to the board Fiberboard.

This method is suitable for flat surfaces. over, the consumption of glue is very high. You can also use staples as fasteners. Also an easy option. A construction stapler is used in this case.

Any home craftsman sooner or later is faced with the need to cut a chipboard. This can be DIY furniture or wall cladding with Fiberboard or Particleboard. As you know, it is not difficult to cut a chipboard, but making a cut even and without chips is not an easy task.
