How to use

How to use a circular saw

To work with a hand-held circular saw:

Check its serviceability (you can just turn it on by weight).
Check that the type of disc is suitable for the material being processed and that it is securely attached to the spindle.
Check the integrity of the disc, the absence of cracks and the presence of all victorious soldering on the teeth.
Use a face shield or at least goggles.
Do not turn on the hand-held circular saw with the blade against the workpiece, the blade must be free.
Do not press down hard on the tool to avoid overloading it.
Clean the saw after work, especially the moving parts.

To work with a circular saw:

All circulars are made under right-handed people, so position yourself to the left of the workpiece.
Before starting work, check that there are no nails or other metal elements in the header.
If there are large knots in the wood, at the moment the disc approaches them, you need to slightly slow down the rate of advancement of the workpiece due to the hardness difference.
If it is necessary to replace the disc, the machine must be completely de-energized by removing the plug from the socket.
Before starting work with the circular saw, you need to start the blade and wait until it picks up speed. It is forbidden to immediately feed the workpiece, and even more so to abut it against a static saw blade.
You need to move the workpiece using special pushers. As a last resort with hands on either side of the saw blade, but not on the same axis with it.

What discs to take

The saw blade is the most important part of the circular, the working body for which it is made. The entire design of the machine is also tied to it, so you need to decide in advance which discs we will use in work, and how to choose the one you need in absentia (online) according to the designations on it or in the description.

Saw blade types and designation systems

The most common are 2 notation systems. According to the first (item A, pos. 1 in the figure), the following are sequentially indicated:

diameter of the disc at the tops of the teeth, mm;
cutting width, mm;
mounting (landing) hole diameter, mm. Typical (default) tolerance of 0.05 mm is not specified;
atypical landing tolerance (possible);
number of teeth;
with the letter T or with a pictogram. the presence of hard-alloy soldering on the teeth;
rotation speed. operating (nominal) just in numbers, the maximum allowable with the prefix max.

According to the second system, it is necessary, in numbers separated by hyphens, to indicate the size of the disc: diameter at the bases of the teeth, their number, and the bore diameter (the default tolerance is the same). For example, 190-36-30 in item B pos. 2 means a disc with a diameter of 190 mm (there will be 200 at the tops of the teeth) with 36 teeth for a fit of 30 mm. The speed is indicated separately, but here it is the maximum by default; working 10% less. The rest of the parameters are indicated either by symbols (item B, pos. 2) or textually. The minimum rotational speed at which the proper cut quality is still ensured for certified discs with stabilizing slots (pos. 1, 2, 4, 5) is 50% lower than the working speed, and for solid discs. 25% less.

There are quite high-quality “off-system” disks on sale (pos. 3-5). But in all cases, simply “on wood” (pos. 2-4) denotes the corresponding TU industrial wood, plywood, chipboard, laminate, etc. sufficiently high-quality wood materials. Sawing with such a disc an unseasoned raw tree is dangerous. it can jam and fly apart. For cutting wild wood, special discs are produced with the designations Forest (forest, pos. 5), Wildwood (wild tree), Timber (timber), Log (log), etc. Discs with such designations are used in stationary pendulum saws, circular sawmills and other equipment for sawing raw wood.

Finally, many unmarked saw blades go on sale, pos. 6 in Fig. In general, they saw, but with them you need to be more careful: the linear speed of rotation of such a disk is better not to give more than 40 m / s. To get the rotational speed from it (for calculating the gear), we measure the diameter of the disc at the bases of the teeth D (in mm), and calculate its working rotational speed as 60 (40,000 / (3.1415xD)). For example, the working speed of rotation of a “turbid” disk by 200 mm will be 3815 rpm; better take 3500.

Cut the same pieces. If you need to cut multiple pieces of the same size, place the sheets on top of each other and make sure all the edges are aligned. Then hold or secure the stack to prevent it from moving and cut all sheets at the same time.

How to work with a circular saw

Start with a good drive

For clean cross-cuts in solid wood, decorative plywood and other sheet and panel materials, replace the standard 24-tooth blade, which is available on most models, with a 50-60-tooth blade. And for most cuts where quality requirements are not too high, use a 40-tooth blade. And only for ripping solid wood, reinstall the standard 24-tooth blade.

Get rid of chips in one of three ways

The saw blade teeth rotate forward and upward. The underside of the workpiece, where the teeth enter the material, is almost always clean and free of chips. On the contrary, the top side is usually so chipped that it cannot be used in visible parts of the product (compare three photos with different degrees of chipping). Therefore, if possible, always lay the sheet or strip face down for cutting. And if you have to cut to the right side, use one of these techniques to keep the cut edges clean.

Cut two times instead of one. The first shallow cut will cleanly cut surface wood fibers so they will not be ripped up in the final cut.

2.Use an anti-splinter pad

Attach a hardboard plate to the base of the circular saw to press down on the surface wood fibers, especially on materials covered with firewood veneer, and to prevent chipping where the teeth of the blade come out of the material. The distance between the edge of the base and the fence should be 10-12 mm more than the distance from the saw blade to the edge of the sole of your saw. File the edge of the guide bar by pressing the sole against the stop. Now one edge of such a tire will act as a splinter pad, pressing the fibers from above. Before cutting, put the tire on top of the future part, since chips will appear on the other edge of the cut, where the fibers are not pressed.

The most common bed can be made from an old dining table or thick wood plywood and a few slabs. Holes are drilled in the tabletop to fix the circular itself and an incision is made according to the size of the saw blade.
