In what position to store the chain saw

Storing a lawn mower in the winter. Preservation of brushcutters, gasoline trimmers

Modern garden equipment. they are reliable assistants of a gardener and cottager, allowing effective, with the least effort and saving time to look after a garden or a summer cottage. At the same time it can let us down at the most inappropriate moment, in spring, when the “hot” days of preparation, planting, garden chores will begin, and the spring grass is growing fast and exuberant. The fault can be as improper storage of lawnmower in the winter, and not fully executed preservation of benzotrimmer for long-term storage. Consider general tips for preserving your lawn mower, brushcutter, gasoline trimmer for winter storage. These recommendations will be true for preparing for long-term storage of any petrol-driven garden equipment.

This question is controversial in many aspects. Many gardeners are of the opinion that branded garden equipment, using high-quality fuel and lubricants, does not require preparation for winter storage at all. And in spring, after the filling and pumping of gasoline or fuel mixture, it will continue its work without any problems.

However, everyone has absolutely different storage conditions for garden equipment. Some people can afford to store it in a warm room, while others have it lying in a damp and frosty shed all winter. And the concept of “high-quality fuel and lubricants” we have pretty vague.

My opinion is that if you can avoid the deposition of moisture (dew) when storing a gasoline engine, then the preservation of the cylinders and garden equipment elements for the winter is not necessary. It will be enough to simply drain and drain the remaining gasoline or fuel mixture. Moisture can be avoided in several ways: store the engine at room temperature, or provide good insulation of the engine, for example, store it in a dense box, upholstered inside with mineral wool.

Storage of lawn mower in winter. goals and objectives.

Proper lawnmower winter storage consists of several preparatory steps. The main one: Preparing the brushcutter engine for an extended winter storage. It prevents the rings from being pressed into the piston, prevents the oil from hardening and condensation on the internal parts of the engine with corrosion.

  • We clean the gasoline braid from dirt.
  • Drain the gasoline or fuel mixture from the garden equipment and screw on the gas tank lid. I do not recommend to use the drained mixture as fuel for the equipment in the future. How much fuel mixture for two-stroke engines can be stored read here.
  • Start the machine and wait for the gasoline residue in the carburettor, primer and fuel line to come out at idle speed. Residuals are few and the gardening equipment will not run for a long time, Before stopping, the engine will slightly increase revolutions, due to the depletion of the fuel mixture.

Preservation of the brushcutter. treatment of the engine cylinders.

  • Remove the spark plug.
  • Unscrew the spark plug. Check the overall condition of the lawnmower.
  • Using a syringe, spray 2-2.5 ml of oil through the spark plug hole in the cylinder cavity, which is designed to make the fuel mixture of your garden equipment. It is possible to use any antiscale, anticorrosive agent, ideally a specialized product for the internal preservation of the engine of motor vehicles.
  • Turn the piston several times with the hand-held puller with the ignition off.
  • Screw in the plug.
  • Put the candlestick on.

Attention. If you accidentally overflowed oil and your lawn mower won’t start in the spring. First unscrew and degrease the candle.

Where best to store the lawnmower?

During the spring and summer season, grass and weeds are mowed several times, and maintenance consists of cleaning the grass cutting parts and changing the gasoline and oil.

When the season of use is over it’s time to think where best to store the mower so that it will be in the same good condition after the winter, will not corrode or need repairing!

In order to ensure that your unit, which is a modern and complex, and usually not cheap device, and after the winter was intact and in working order, you must first of all study the instructions for use and maintenance of the purchased lawnmower, which necessarily has and the Rule of lawnmower storage.

On the observance of the rules of use, correct maintenance, timely preventive maintenance and repair, using only original spare parts and correct storage, depends on the quality and performance of your lawnmower.

Rules for storing the lawn mower

The machine must be kept in a dry, cool, at least room temperature and with moderate humidity. Do not forget to observe the fire safety regulations.

The mower’s engine must be cooled down before storing the appliance. And all the gasoline is drained. The engine starts when the fuel is used up and waits until the engine stops when the fuel is used up. Because its fumes can ignite if there is source of naked flames nearby.

After that, in order to prepare the lawnmower for long-term storage, you need to wash and dry the machine. Use a small brush for external cleaning. Do not use harsh detergents and household scented oils as they can damage the plastic parts of the lawnmower. Then wipe everything dry with a clean cloth. All mechanisms and removable parts should be well oiled and a special rust and corrosion preventative applied to the metal surface.

Store the machine upright with the spark plug facing upward. To protect the lawnmower from damage and dust, it is necessary to put a cover of thick cloth or put it in a container so that no one can use it for anything else. The machine must be kept out of the reach of children. And the place itself should not only be dry but also well ventilated.

Today, if special companies, which not only help to prepare the garden equipment for its proper storage, but also provide sets of original details to each individual unit of one or another company-manufacturer. Also in these specialized stores you can buy additional parts and accessories. A flexible shaft, spools with a fishing line, oil and all kinds of grease, candles. All products meet modern quality standards, which increases the service life of the units.

Trimmers should not only be properly treated, but also properly stored. Often the owners of garden equipment, not thinking about the properties of gasoline or electric mowers, simply throw the tool into the pantry and lock it up. Under these conditions, there is a chance that the grass trimmer will break. Let’s understand how the grass trimmer should be stored correctly.

If you put the grass trimmer in the closet at the cottage for a week is one thing, but preparing the tool for “wintering” in the garden cottage is quite another. Before storing an electric trimmer, all cords should be checked, and a petrol trimmer should be emptied of gasoline and oil. However, some, on the contrary, advise not to do this, in order to avoid drying out of gaskets in the mechanism. In our opinion, gasoline still should be drained. both from the engine, and from the carburetor, because after 2-3 weeks in the liquid can be formed sediment, and this will lead to damage to the mechanism of lawnmowers.

The best place for storage will be a dry elevated pantry or a glazed plastic loggia. But any place away from open flames, isolated from large temperature fluctuations, with normal humidity will do. If there are no options, and the humidity in the room is high, it is worth to cover the trimmer for grass with moisture absorbers. This saves the appliance from freezing and icing. If you notice that the grass trimmer has frozen, it is worth moving it to another place, such as a closet in a heated room. However, not every gasoline-powered power tiller will fit in a closet; this is more likely to apply to small portable and folding power tillers. So it’s easy to move the gasoline trimmer into the garage.

How to Store a Gasoline Saw in Winter

This is perhaps one of the very few tools you can use in cold weather. True, the operating temperature range of a chainsaw is usually low because it contains frost-resistant parts, gasoline and oil. If the manufacturer guarantees operation at.10°C, this is a very good indicator and such a saw can be used almost all year round. If you leave the cottage for a long time, then take care about the proper preservation.

“The heart of any chainsaw is a carburetor-type, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine. Another important element is the chain. It is the care of these two elements that is the focus of much of the preservation advice:

  • First, drain the fuel tank, carburetor, and oil to lubricate the chain. You can run the chainsaw at idle and wait for it to run out of gas to use up all the fuel. Afterward, wipe the gas tank dry so it doesn’t start rusting. This is an option for long-term preservation, at least 3 months. But there is a second option for those who log or do other winter work. In that case it is advised to fill the tank up to the brim with quality gasoline and leave it in that state for storage. If you urgently need to cut down a tree. great, you have fully prepared equipment at your fingertips. But remember, the gasoline that will start to resemble kissel in consistency after 2-3 frosty winter weeks can put even a first-class engine out of operation;
  • With the help of wire dipstick or a homemade nozzle take out from fuel and oil tanks filter-tips. Rinse and put them back in after drying or replace them with new ones if necessary. Do the same with the air filter;
  • Remove saw chain and guide bar and clean them of sawdust, sawdust and dirt;
  • remove the clutch cover, rinse it thoroughly under running warm water and let it dry. Lubricate the worm gear and side chain tensioning screw;
  • take out the spark plug and clean it of carbon deposits and fuel residue. Pour 5-7 ml of engine oil into the spark plug hole and turn the crankshaft 3 to 4 turns to distribute the oil over the crankarms and cylinder-piston group. Leave the piston at its highest point (raised). Then reinstall the spark plug, but do not put on the ignition terminal;
  • Lubricate the bar and chain with barrier fluid and wrap in a piece of oil-soaked paper or cloth;
  • Pack the tool and put the removed parts away in a dry, dark and dust-free place.

About once a month, rotate the crankshaft to regrease the connecting rod and piston and cylinder bearings.

If your saw is electric, all you need for preservation is to lubricate the bar and chain with a protective lubricant.

How to store the chain saw in the winter

This machine is set out for a “well-deserved rest” in the fall, and is removed towards the end of spring. Because lawn mowers are inactive for so long, there are very high requirements for their preservation.

Gasoline lawnmower

The gasoline lawnmower’s main components are the engine and the cutting parts. These are the parts you should pay the most attention to:

  • The first condition for proper storage is a room with humidity not exceeding 70%, as well as the absence of sharp temperature fluctuations that increase the humidity;
  • If you mow a lot, grass particles and the resulting moisture can get inside the machine. So be sure to wash, clean and dry the blades and other parts within reach. Remove grass and leaves from the housing, exhaust pipe, engine cooler, etc.д.;
  • Opinions are divided on fuel. Some dacha owners drain its leftovers and wipe the gas tank dry, so that over the winter no condensation will form. The other half, on the other hand, fill the tank to the brim and leave it that way for the winter. In this case, however, low-quality gasoline can give sediment, which will make it difficult to start the engine in the spring. It is still easier to remove residual fluid from the carburetor than to clean it of plaque and sludge, so we recommend the first option;
  • Inspect the cutter blade to see if it needs sharpening and repair. In any case, take it off and sharpen it for the winter. Consult a professional if necessary;
  • The oil level should be as recommended in the instruction manual (for 4-stroke engines);
  • Store the mower so that its wheels do not touch the floor, either in a hanging position or on a stand.

Electric lawn mower

Before cleaning the unit for the winter, check the integrity of all contacts and inspect them for oxidation and rust. For the rest, the electric motor does not need any special preservation measures. Recharge the battery for the winter, clean the body, deck and blades of grass and sharpen them if necessary.

How to store the chainsaw in winter

This is perhaps one of the very few tools you can work with in the cold. True, a chainsaw’s operating temperature range is usually small because it contains frost-resistant parts, gasoline and oil. If the manufacturer guarantees you can keep it at.10°C, it is a good indicator and you can use it all year round. If you leave the cottage for a long time, then take care of proper preservation.

position, store, chain

“The heart of any chainsaw is a carburetor-type, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine. Another important element is the chain. It is the care of these two elements that is the focus of most of the preservation recommendations:

  • First drain the fuel, carburetor and chain oil from the tank. You can run the chainsaw at no load and wait until it runs out of gas to get a full load of fuel. After that, wipe the gas tank dry so it does not begin to rust. This is an option for long-term preservation, at least 3 months. But there’s a second option for those logging or doing other winter work. In this case, it is advised to fill the tank to the brim with quality gasoline and leave it in that state for storage. If you urgently need to cut down a tree. great, you have at hand a fully prepared technique. But remember, the gasoline which after 2-3 frosty winter weeks will start to remind a jelly-like consistency, can put even a first-class engine out of operation;
  • Using a wire dipstick or a homemade nozzle, remove the fuel and oil filters from the fuel and oil tanks. Rinse and put them back in after drying or replace them with new ones if necessary. Do the same with the air filter;
  • Remove the saw chain and guide bar and clean them of sawdust, wood dust and dirt;
  • Remove clutch cover, rinse thoroughly under running warm water and let dry. Lubricate the worm gear and side chain tensioning system screw;
  • Remove the spark plug and clean it of soot and fuel residue. Pour 5-7 ml of engine oil into the spark plug hole and turn the crankshaft 3-4 times to distribute the oil over the connecting rod and piston group. leave the piston at its highest point (in the raised position). After that, reinstall the spark plug, but do not put on the ignition terminal;
  • Coat the bar and chain with barrier fluid and wrap in a piece of oil-soaked paper or cloth;
  • pack up the tool and store the removed parts in a dry, dark, dust-free place.

single axle tractor

A single-axle tractor is a serious machine that needs proper care. The abundance of details and complicated structure of this device does not always allow you to completely clean it from dirt, but you should try to do it nevertheless. So, before wintering it is necessary:

  • Clean the plow and cultivator blades of dirt, wash, dry and treat them with oil or solidol. It is better to store them separately. in a dry, ventilated room;
  • Clean the engine with a brush, remove the combustion products in the muffler area. Drain the petrol and work off the rest. Before the engine cools, remove the oil and pour in new oil;
  • renew the paper air filter or wash the foam filter with warm water and detergent. Allow the filter to dry and soak it in machine oil;
  • Remove the spark plug, clean it, soak it in gasoline and dry it. Pour 15 ml of oil into the cylinder and turn the shaft slowly so it spreads over all the parts then put the spark plug back in place.

During the inspection of the motoblock and remove dirt from the gearbox, cutter and other parts should not use iron scrapers. you can easily damage the protective layer and provoke rust. It is best to use a stick or spatula to wash the parts under running water. After “water procedures” it is necessary to wipe everything with a napkin and dry.

position, store, chain

It is worth covering your power tiller nozzles and removable metal parts with a protective oil film, wrapping them in wrapping paper and storing them separately, placing them in a wooden or plastic box. Like a lawn mower, keep the single axle tractor in a dry, ventilated room in winter.

Preparing units with four-stroke engines

In this case, pay special attention to the gas tank.There are different ways to prepare this equipment for winter:

  • Fill the gas tank with fuel with a special additive. This is to keep the fuel from segregating while it is being stored. Using this method you can be sure that no condensation will form inside the gas tank during cold storage.
  • Empty the tank. Having stopped at this method, it is necessary to treat the inner surfaces of the gas tank, intake manifold and cylinders with agents that prevent oxidation. Drain the oil from the manifold before winterization to avoid sludge formation and loss of properties.
  • Safeguarding of hoses and cables

Over the wintertime wires and hoses can oxidize or lose their elasticity. To avoid this, it is recommended to use aerosols with wax and silicone in their composition. They are convenient in that after the winterization it is not necessary to remove the coating from the surfaces before putting the equipment into operation.

For protection of wheels and tires during long storage it is recommended to remove them from equipment or to install equipment on special racks. In addition, do not forget about the temperature of storage, specified by the manufacturer of the rubber.

The most exposed to temperature jumps and changes in humidity are rubber seals, gaskets, and rings. The main danger is that moisture can penetrate into the moving parts of the machine in the form of condensation and freezes and cause mechanical damage as it expands.

Low temperatures are safe for most models of gasoline technology. The main thing is to protect the storage location from humidity.

How to Store a Grass Trimmer in Winter

Trimmers should not only be properly handled, but also properly stored. Often petrol or electric grass trimmers are simply dumped in the barn, where they lie until spring. Such carelessness can cost you dearly.

Gasoline grass trimmer

Gasoline-powered trimmers are powerful, compact machines designed to cut the grass. Proper storage is a prerequisite for trouble-free and long-lasting use.

  • Find a good place to store it. It should be a dry place with normal humidity, away from bright lights and naked flames. Do not let the trimmer freeze, it is better to cover it with moisture absorbers (for example, an old blanket);
  • Drain all the fuel mixture (gasoline and oil) and let the device idle until it stalls;
  • Remove grass residue between the blades and fixed parts of the trimmer and from the blades. Do not be lazy and carefully inspect the body for organics;
  • Remove and inspect the spark plug. The normal color of the electrodes is reddish; if they are covered with carbon deposits, they should be cleaned or replaced;
  • Remove the metal cutting blade and keep it clean and free of dirt. Check the blade for damage, replace it if it is cracked or chipped. Store a dry and cleaned blade separately;
  • If your trimmer has a trimmer cord (trimmer line), remove it and put it in fresh water for the winter. This way it will retain its original flexibility, withstand tension and last longer;
  • Store the brushcutter hanging from the ground. If the handlebar is in the way, turn it the other way or unscrew it.

Check trimmer before winter storage for damage to cables, insulation and contacts. Do not allow sharp temperature fluctuations and do not keep the grass trimmer in the cold. Formed condensation can disable contacts and other elements of the device.

Grass trimmer

Proper storage of these powerful, yet compact grass trimmers is a prerequisite for long and trouble-free operation. Before you send the grass trimmer to a well-deserved rest, it is necessary to perform a few important actions:

  • Drain all the fuel mixture (gasoline and oil) and let the device idle until it stalls;
  • Remove grass residue between the blades and fixed parts of the grass trimmer and from the blades;
  • Unscrew the spark plug and inspect it. If the electrodes are reddish, everything is fine; if they are covered with carbon deposits, they need to be cleaned or replaced;
  • remove the metal cutting blade, clean it of dirt and check its integrity. If cracks or chips appear, the blade will have to be replaced. Dry and dirt-cleaned blade should be stored separately;
  • If you have a trimmer cord fitted you should remove it and leave it in fresh water for the winter. that way the line will keep its original shape, hold up under tension and last longer.

The best place to store the brushcutter is in a dry, cool, humid room, away from sources of bright light and naked flames. To prevent the grass trimmer from freezing it should be wrapped in an old blanket. Experts recommend hanging the brushcutter in a hanging position. If the handlebar is in the way, turn it to the other side or simply unscrew it.

How to store the cultivator and single axle tractor in winter

Such “serious” agricultural machines like cultivators and power tillers need proper care. The abundance of parts and the complexity of the device does not always allow you to completely clean the cultivator and even more so the single axle tractor from the dirt, but it is still worth trying to do it.

  • the first step is the preservation of the engine. Drain the gasoline and run out the rest of it until the engine stops. Remove the oil and replace it with new oil before the motor cools;
  • renew the paper air filter or wash the foam filter with warm water and detergent. When it is dry, soak it in machine oil. Clean the fuel filter;
  • unscrew the spark plug, clean it, soak it in gasoline, and dry it. Pour 15 ml of oil into the cylinder and turn the shaft slowly to distribute it over all parts. Put the spark plug back in place;
  • During inspection, clean all parts, components, engine ribs and muffler of dirt, earth and oil stains. When removing dirt from the gearbox, cutter, and other parts, do not use iron scrapers, or you will damage the protective layer and provoke rust. It is better to take a wooden stick or spatula and rinse the parts under running water. After “water procedures” wipe everything with a cloth and dry it;
  • Use a cloth soaked in engine oil to clean the cutters and gearbox exterior. Also wrap extra tools and other metal parts in oil-resistant cling film, wrap them in wrapping paper, and put them in a wooden or plastic box.

If you make use of our tips, in the spring you will get your hands on some absolutely ready-to-use equipment, which will make your outdoor work much easier and help you to achieve a higher yield with a minimum of effort.

Proper preservation is much more important than where to put the petrol-powered tool in winter storage. Often people leave fuel in the system, and in the spring can not start the engine and carry at the peak of calls to the service, which in the spring is already overloaded. The following is a quote from chainsaws-portal.ru/

Preserving your lawn mower and chainsaw before winter storage:

Mow everything that needs to be mowed (and use fuel at the same time, so that it is not left for the winter).

Remove the cap of the tank, turn the lawnmower (chainsaw) and drain all the fuel from the tank into a container for technical use (canister or bottle with a funnel for washing engine parts during maintenance). Start the lawnmower / chainsaw and drain the rest of the fuel from the carburetor until it stops (if you leave fuel in the system, after a while the fuel will separate and in the carburetor channels will form oxides and resinous deposits, which will later interfere with the normal operation of the engine).

How to store a gasoline grass trimmer in the garden in winter

Before you put the gardening equipment for winter storage, you need to painstakingly prepare it. canning it. The more difficult the device, the more attention it will require. We’ve compiled the best preservation methods for you.

At the end of the season, the “heavy” gardening equipment is put away for storage until the following spring. Often it is simply driven into the shed or closed in the house, wiped a little with a rag. If you have not prepared the technique to the winter, in the spring it may not start, because the usual criteria in the changing temperatures and humidity regimes. a severe test for devices. This applies mainly to power tools, they need to be treated with particular care. Although the owner’s manual usually gives you plenty of advice, here are the main rules for storing your gardening equipment.

What affects the performance of a grass trimmer

The technical condition of the brushcutter may change during storage for the following reasons:

  • The quality of the machine itself. If the manufacturer used a low-quality materials and components, they themselves are sharper deteriorate, for example, rusted.
  • Packaging. Must protect from dust, water and mechanical damage.
  • Temperature. Must not drop below 0°C. It is especially urgent for battery models, because the battery rapidly degrades in the cold.
  • Humidity. Excessive water causes corrosion damage to parts.
  • Preparing. The unit should be properly serviced before storing.

Start of gasoline triimeter

Regardless of the type of starting, there are 6 actions that you always have to do:

  • fuel priming;
  • putting the choke shutter in the “start” position (“closed”, “off”);
  • Moving the switch to the “on” position (“on”, “on”);
  • pressing and locking the gas button;
  • pull starter rope with selection of a free stroke;
  • putting the air damper in the “operation” position (“open”, “on”).

The first 3 points in this list can be done in any sequence, but pull the cable air starter can be only after their. neglecting the fuel pumping will lead to the fact that pull the cable manual starter will have more than one dozen times, that the moving piston of the engine pumped enough air to suck out of the carburetor fuel.

Neglecting air damper will lead to strong overpopulation of the consistency, which is great for a working engine, but very bad for startup, because this mixture is perfectly ignited only inside a warmed cylinder.

When the choke shutter is closed there is not enough air flow to keep the engine running at idle speed and you have to press and hold the gas pedal or engine speed regulator. The on / off button covers the motor ignition system, so before starting, turn it to the “on” position.

How to store the gasoline trimmer

Store the chain saw in a dry place, like a garage or a warm shed.10 °С). To protect the equipment from scratches, you can cover it with corrugated cardboard or bubble wrap.

Saw lubrication

It’s best to use original oil for your chain saw. It is designed specifically for use with tools of its own brand and will not cause any damage to internal components. Its implementation is completely non-hazardous.

The oil tank should not be emptied one hundred percent because it would be bad for the tire and the chain.

Preparing the mowing line reel for winter storage.

  • Remove the mowing head from the gardening equipment.
  • We disassemble it and clean it from the remains of grass and dirt.
  • Rewind line for trimmer from the reel.
  • Keep trimmer line in a wet place to avoid it drying out and becoming brittle. Wrap in a bag with water, for example.

Tip. If mowing line for trimmer still gets coarse and brittle in spring, put it in water for a few hours. It will partially restore its characteristics.

If you have time, do not hesitate to lubricate the gearbox.

Proper storage of lawn mower during long layovers, especially during winter, preservation of its engine and cutting tools will ensure its trouble-free work in the next season. In addition, it will save a lot of nerves and money, which, as is clear, there is not much.

Storing the lawnmower in the winter. Preservation of brushcuts, benzotrimmer updated: November 19, 2017 by: Elena

position, store, chain

single axle tractor

A single axle tractor is a serious agricultural machine that needs proper care. The richness of the details and complex device does not always allow one hundred percent to clean the device from dirt, but to try to do it all the same worth. So, before wintering you need:

  • Clean plow and blades of cultivator from dirt, wash, dry and treat with oil or solidol. It is better to store them separately. in a dry open room;
  • Clean the engine with a brush, remove the combustion products in the muffler area. Drain the gasoline and let the residue dry. Before the motor cools down, remove the oil and pour in new oil;
  • To renew the cardboard air filter or wash the foam filter with warm water and detergent. Let the filter dry and soak it in machine oil;
  • Unscrew the spark plug, clean it, soak it in gasoline and dry it. Pour 15 ml of oil into the cylinder and turn the shaft slowly to distribute it on all parts, then put the spark plug back in place.

During inspection of the tiller and to remove dirt from the gearbox, cutter and other parts do not use steel scrapers. it can simply destroy the protective layer and cause rusting. It is best to use a paddle or spatula and rinse under running water. After the “water treatment” it is imperative to wipe everything with a cloth and dry.

Power tiller implements and removable iron parts should be covered with protective oil film, wrapped in wrapping paper and stored separately in a wooden or plastic box. Like a lawn mower, a single axle tractor should be kept outdoors in the winter in a dry place.

How to properly store various types of equipment and implements

Shovels, shovels, pitchforks, hoes, and rakes

The easiest to preserve, both temporarily and permanently.

  • Dirt off metal parts and handles.
  • Wash and dry.
  • Sharpen sharp edges.
  • Coat the handles and handles with varnish, wipe the metal parts with an oiled rag.

Hand tools

  • Remove dirt, wash, dry.
  • If necessary, we replace any broken parts.
  • Grease to prevent rust.
  • Putting them in their cases.

Important: Hand tools should only be stored flat.

Electric saws

They are much easier to handle. Clean the chain saws of dirt with a damp cloth. You should clean chains and tires particularly carefully, then coat them with a protective barrier grease.

Gasoline lawnmowers

  • First remove grass particles from the blades and other parts of the mower.
  • Then empty the fuel tank and wipe it down so that no condensation can form.
  • Check the oil level against the amount specified in the instruction manual.
  • Pay close attention to the cutting attachment. Determine if it is blunt or if it needs to be replaced at all. Respectively, either sharpen or replace with new blade.
  • Hang the mower ready for maintenance on the wall or put it on the stand.

Electric lawnmowers

Electric lawnmower before winter storage should be inspected for damaged (oxidized) contacts, blunted knives and dirty housing.

Benzotrimmers

The algorithm is very similar to that of the gasoline lawnmower.

  • Drain the petrol.
  • Determine what to do with the oil in a particular model, according to the manual.
  • Remove, clean and check blades.
  • Changing the spark plug.
  • If there is a line for the trimmer, it must be removed.

Store the grass trimmer in a hanging position in a dry, ventilated room without excessive moisture.

Electric trimmers

Before looking at the mower for storage check that all connections, contacts and insulation are intact. Clean blades and remove trimmer line. Here everything is similar to the previous types of equipment.

Power tillers and cultivators

These are the most complicated machines because of the abundance of details.

  • To start their general preservation we need to preserve the engine: get rid of fuel residue and change the oil.
  • Next, work on the air filters: change the paper filter, and wash the foam filter with water and some detergent.
  • We also clean the fuel filter.
  • Changing a spark plug. Before you put a new one, experienced gardeners advise to pour 15-20 ml of oil into the cylinder and turn the shaft to disperse it over the parts.
  • All nozzles and metal parts of the machine are covered with grease, wrapped in paper and placed in a box.

Important: When inspecting your power tiller or cultivator, do not leave any dirt on any part of the machine. engine, subassembly or muffler.

These are ways to help keep your tools and equipment safe and sound until next season. Maybe you have your own “winter” maintenance secrets that you want to share with other 7-gardeners?

Is it necessary to prepare gasoline gardening equipment for the winter period?

This question is controversial in many aspects. Many gardeners are of the opinion that the branded garden equipment does not need any preparation for winter storage if high-quality fuel and lubricants are used at all. And in the spring, after refilling and pumping gasoline or fuel mixture, without any problems will continue its work.

At the same time, the storage conditions for all garden equipment is completely different. Some can afford to store it in a warm room, while others have it all winter in a wet and frosty shed. And we have a rather vague concept of “high-quality fuel and lubricants.

My opinion is that if you can avoid moisture (dew) when storing a gasoline engine, then the preservation of the cylinders and elements of the garden equipment for the winter is not necessary. It will be enough to simply drain and work out the remaining gasoline or fuel mixture. The appearance of moisture can be avoided in several ways: keep the engine at room temperature or provide quality thermal insulation of the engine, for example, store it in a thick box, upholstered inside with mineral wool.

Storing the lawnmower in winter. goals and objectives.

Properly storing the lawn mower in winter consists of several preparatory steps. The main one: preparing your brushcutter engine for extended winter storage. It will prevent the rings from being pressed into the piston, avoid the consequences of oil hardening, condensation of moisture on the internal parts of the engine with subsequent corrosion.

  • Keeping the chain saw free of dirt.
  • Drain the gasoline or fuel mix from the garden machine and close the gas tank lid. I do not recommend further on to use the empty fuel mix as fuel. How much fuel mixture for two-stroke engines can be stored read here.
  • Start the lawnmower and wait for the residual gasoline in the carburetor, primer and fuel line to work out at idle speed. There is not much residue and the garden equipment will not run for a long time, before stopping, the engine will slightly increase the revolutions, due to the depletion of the fuel mixture.

Preserving brushcutters. treating engine cylinders.

  • Remove the spark plug.
  • Unscrew the spark plug. Check the clearance and its general condition.
  • Using a syringe, spray 2 to 2.5 ml of your gardening equipment fuel mixture through the spark plug hole into the cylinder cavity. It is possible to use any anticarbon, anticorrosive agent, ideally, the specialized means for internal preservation of the engine of motor vehicles.
  • Turn the piston several times with the hand starter with the ignition off.
  • Screw in the spark plug.
  • Put on the candle holder.

If you accidentally overflowed oil and your garden equipment won’t want to start in the spring. First unscrew and degrease the spark plug.

Preservation of lawnmower. treatment of carburetor and cleaning the air filter.

Lawn mower storage in winter. Preservation of brushcutters, petrol trimmer updated: November 19, 2021 by: Elena

Your lawnmower mowed a lot of grass during the summer months and you can thank it for that by storing it comfortably over the winter months so it won’t get in trouble next year as well.

Carry out cleaning.

Thoroughly clean the tool in preparation for storage, open and clean the air filter.

Drain the fuel

Do not keep a brushcutter filled with fuel. To avoid clogging the fuel system, drain the fuel from the tank and then start the mower. Let it idle until the engine stops. The fuel system is now ready for storage.

Checking the spark plug

Remove the spark plug and inspect it. A reddish color indicates the spark plug is in good condition. If the plug looks different, it should be cleaned or replaced.

Checking the metal cutting attachment

If you have a metal cutting attachment on your brushcutter, remove it and check that it is clean and free of dirt. Check the blade for cracks. If there are any cracks on the blade do not use it (it could be tragic). Store the cleaned cutting attachment in a dry place.

Significant seasonal fluctuations in temperature and humidity define one of the major challenges for owners of any diesel or carbureted household equipment, including chainsaws. It consists in ensuring normal conditions for storage of tools and equipment with internal combustion engines, or their intended use in the cold season. The procedure for putting in and taking out of service is regulated by the manufacturer and is practically always described in detail in the instruction manual. However, it is better to know about some peculiarities of storing and operating a chainsaw in winter. That’s a good way to boost performance and extend the working life of your machine.
