Lawn Mowing Balancing

How to adjust the mounts of the lawn mowers. Knapsack belt

Lawn Mowing Balancing

From correctness lawn mounts the comfort of the gardener and, as a result, the speed and duration of his work depend on the backpack belt. Many people do not want to spend time adjusting the mounts of the gas trimmer on the two-shoulder belt, and perhaps this is justified if it is necessary to mow the grass only in a small area or near the fence, but for large areas the issue of convenience and endurance will become paramount if we do not want to stretch the mowing for several days. In addition, a correctly adjusted mount of lawn mowers will make grass mowing much safer. As for me, it’s worth sorting out this issue.

Mounting and adjusting the mounting of the gas trimmer. Strap backpack.

Ease of use depends not only on the correct placement of the gas trimmer on the backpack belt, its balance, but also on the correctness installation and adjustment of a two-handed handle, often referred to as cycling.

Adjustment of fastening of a lawn-mowing ground. What you need to strive for.

After adjusting the two-handed handle and backpack belt, the cutting tool lawn mowers, being in a hanging position on the harness, should be parallel to the ground, while your hands should not touch the garden tool. The height, of course, may vary depending on the task, 20-30 centimeters when mowing tall grass for food, 5-10 centimeters for mowing grass.

It is necessary to balance a lawn-mow with the installed cutting tool: a disk or a reel with fishing line.

Adjustment: backpack belt / backpack belt / backpack type belt / shoulder strap / parachute belt.

Perhaps due to translation inaccuracies, now you can find many names of belt suspension for gardening equipment: a knapsack belt / backpack belt / backpack-type belt / shoulder belt / parachute belt. For lawn mowing, only a two-shoulder belt is suitable, hence the association with a backpack and satchel, which must be correctly attached and fitted to the figure. You can of course hang on one strap, a belt loop, but I do not recommend, except for very low-power models. Weight and vibration will quickly make themselves felt.

First of all, you need to adjust the hook height of the two-shoulder belt in accordance with your height. To do this, we put on a knapsack belt and pull the shoulder straps so that the hook is below the hips to the width of the palm, and the load is evenly distributed over the straps. If you pull the trimmer higher, then only narrow the grass grab, and the cutting tool will most likely be at an angle to the ground.

We hang the lawn mow. Rearranging the hook into the desired hole in the bar, we balance the gas trimmer so that when the hands are released, the knife is at the selected height, depending on the tasks.

On those models of lawn mowers that are equipped with a hinge for fastening, and not a bar, it is necessary to balance by moving it along the bar.

The purpose of this balancing is to distribute the weight of the garden tool through a backpack-type belt onto the shoulders, rather than constantly supporting it with your hands. Hands should only set the direction of the cutting tool.

Then you need to adjust the two-handed handle of the gas trimmer. If the balancing of the garden tool after this is disturbed, then it is necessary to repeat all the steps until the result is achieved.

It’s not always possible to get the perfect lawn mowing balance on a knapsack belt. Sometimes the parallelism of the knife to the ground can be achieved only by personal selection of the length and replacement of the standard trimmer bar. Do not forget that the amount of fuel in the tank of motor vehicles will still influence the center of gravity. But even not perfectly carried out adjustment of the mount of the lawn mowers can greatly facilitate the work of the operator.

on how to wear a Stihl lawn mower:

How to maintain a lawn mowing

Lawn mowing. A popular technique for mowing unnecessary vegetation in areas, in gardens and parks. But like any other equipment, lawn mowers require constant care, maintenance and sometimes minor repairs, which can be done independently. And if you bought not an electric, but a lawn mower, which gasoline should be poured into the fuel tank? In this article, we will consider the basic principles of lawn care and tips on what to do with the unit before each start-up, how to prepare the fuel mixture and tell you some secrets of mowing grass from experienced gardeners.

Lawn maintenance

Here you will find information on how to properly care for all parts of the equipment, how to adjust, how to disassemble and how and how to lubricate the lawn mower (moving parts).

Engine. Keep the air filter clean; foam products should be moistened with oil. The fuel filter needs to be checked at least once a week, and in case of a malfunction, be replaced in a timely manner. The muffler and candles should be regularly cleaned of soot (as it gets dirty). Before each start of operation, check the tightness of all screws and nuts.

Bevel gear must be cleaned of dust and dirt as necessary, as this interferes with effective cooling, and then lubricated with any lubricant for the gearbox, for example, STIHL.

Trimmer head with fishing line. The mowing head must be cleaned after each use of the trimmer, and replaced promptly as soon as deformation or cracks are detected. It is necessary to use only a special cord (fishing line) for trimmers, no cables or wire! The diameter of the fishing line should be the same as stated on a particular model. Winding the cord should be carried out tightly, but without crossing the threads.

Cutting tool (saw blade or knife). Metal products must be sharpened (for this there are special templates and files) at a special angle. Double-sided models are preferably turned over from time to time for uniform wear. Blunt or improperly sharpened blades and blades can overload the engine and shorten its life.

Protective covers must always be worn while mowing. They shelter the operator from flying grass and stones from under the cutting equipment, and also reduce the load on the engine. After work, thoroughly clean the inside and outside of the casing with a jet of water or a soft cloth, being careful not to scratch the surface.

How to adjust the lawn mowers (carburetor)

Correct adjustment is the key to successful operation of the unit in the future.

Beginners sometimes don’t know how important this process is for lawn mowers and gas trimmers, and they skip it or simply don’t know how to adjust the lawn mowing carburetor, assuming that the factory settings are enough. However, it is not. Inspection of all mechanisms and carburetor adjustment should be carried out regularly.

Important information and tips for setting up a gasoline carburetor in lawn mowers:

  1. There are 3 screws in the carburetor: left (H), bottom (T) and right (L). To get to the screws, you need to know how to disassemble the lawn mower, or rather, how to get to the carburetor. This information should be indicated in the product data sheet.
  2. The bottom screw (T) is responsible for idling, the right (L) for the amount of fuel entering the combustion chamber at low revolutions, and the left (N) is responsible for the flow of fuel at high revs.
  3. Turn on the carburetor at idle. Properly tuned, it works evenly with a hot and cooled engine, at low and high speeds. If something goes wrong, rotate the bottom screw (T).
  4. The fuel flow adjustment at low revs is adjusted by turning the right screw (L) a quarter of a turn counterclockwise.
  5. Setting the carburetor at high speeds is as follows: open the throttle and press the maximum gas. Turn the left screw (H) clockwise until a reduction in speed occurs. After that, turn the screw counterclockwise until the engine slides. Then slowly screw the screw back clockwise until you hear the motor running smoothly and evenly.
  6. The spark plug also serves as an indicator of the correct carburetor adjustment. In the event of malfunctions, a deposit appears on the candle, and if correctly configured, its working part will remain clean.

This is the most universal algorithm for how to set up a carburetor on a lawn mowing machine. Individual adjustment depends on the configuration of the model of your unit.

We prepare the fuel mixture for lawn mowing

Many novice users ask what kind of gasoline to fill in the lawn mower. The passport of each lawn mowers should indicate which fuel can be used with this particular model. However, the scythe will not work on gasoline alone, you need a fuel mixture prepared in certain proportions. What is included in the fuel for lawn mowers and gas trimmers?

Petrol. Any high-octane (AI-92 and 95 and a density of 750 to 770 kg per cubic meter) is suitable. Gasoline must be fresh and clean, which means:

Butter. You can use oil for two-stroke engines (with speeds of 10,000-15,000 rpm) of high quality, for example, the brands Stihl, PATRIOT, Husqvarna, Bigmaster are also suitable.

The proportions of the fuel mixture. If other products are not declared in the passport, you can use this scheme: 1:50 (2 percent oil from 100 percent gasoline) or 20: 1000 ml.

One example fuel mixture preparation (in the proportion of 10 ml per 0.5 l): pour 0.5 l of gasoline into a transparent container and carefully inject 10 ml of oil (you can use a medical syringe without a needle), mix and add the rest of the gasoline at the end. Stir the resulting mixture thoroughly. With low quality gasoline, you can increase the amount of oil to 25 ml.

Our article is for guidance only, so if you have a lawn mowing machine, how to breed gasoline (the correct proportions of gasoline and oil) should be indicated in the technical passport of the model.

Important! Shake the fuel mixture before each refueling so that the gasoline and oil mix evenly. Such fuel can be stored for no longer than 2 weeks in favorable conditions (not frozen and not overheated in the sun). Attention! If the color of the fuel has changed (cloudy, darkened), this mixture cannot be used to avoid equipment failure.

A few secrets on how to mow a lawn mow

Many people know what a lawn mow looks like, how to use it in a grassy area. However, there are some tricks that will allow you to mow vegetation faster and more efficiently.

  1. When mowing grass, make movements from right to left, so the cut part will fall on the already treated area. This is because the snap rotates counterclockwise.
  2. Large and flat areas are best treated in squares. Always mow from the boundary of the plot to the center.
  3. High thickets are best mowed by moving the trimmer from side to side, starting from left to right. The first movement you mow the total length, and the second. Trim.
  4. Slope mowing. Use the direct mowing method. Cut the grass along the slope, at the end go back and go through the next line.

Self-repairing lawn mowers

This information refers to minor repairs of the unit, in case of serious breakdowns or replacement of the main parts of the braid, it is better to contact specialized service centers.

Consider how the lawn mowing is arranged: the unit usually consists of an engine, a mowing head and a connecting rod, as well as additional parts.

What can I fix on my own?

Carburetor trimmer, trimmer trimmer

The increased fuel consumption and the rapid formation of soot on the lawn mowing candles when using a correctly prepared fuel mixture indicate the need for carburetor adjustment. This describes how to set trimmers with carburetors that have one screw for adjusting the fuel supply.

Carb adjustment

Flush the air filter before adjusting the carburetor. It is recommended to rinse it after every 10 hours of operation. After that, you can begin to adjust. The example photograph shows the carburetor of the gasoline trimmer PRORAB-8406. The numbers indicate the adjusting screws that we will use.

Prorab-8406 gas trimmer carburetor adjusting screws

Purpose of adjusting screws:

  1. Fuel mixture adjusting screw.
  2. Idle adjustment screw.
  3. The screw limits the maximum speed.

Start the lawn mower and wait until it warms up.

Fuel adjustment

Start slowly tightening the fuel mixture adjusting screw until the engine stalls or stalls unless you catch the moment. Then unscrew the screw a quarter of a turn if the engine is not dead, or half a turn if it is dead. Start the stalled engine. Check, by opening the throttle, how the engine accelerates. Continue to loosen screw # 1 a quarter of a turn until the engine starts to confidently gain high revs when progazovka. This will be the moment of the most economical stable engine operation. At the PRORAB-8406 gas trimmer, the adjusting screws are turned clockwise, unscrewed. Against, for some other brands the lawn mowing may be vice versa.

Idle adjustment

We proceed to adjust the low speed. Screw number 2 restricts the return movement of the throttle lever. By wrapping it, we increase idle speed, unscrewing. Reduce it. Adjust so that the engine runs confidently at low speeds and even slightly faster (for a better start), but so that the reel with fishing line or knife does not rotate, and before starting to rotate, there is a sufficient margin of speed. If the engine starts poorly, still increase idle speed.

Maximum speed limit

After adjusting the flow of the fuel mixture and low revs, check how the lawn mowing engine will operate at maximum speed. If necessary, limit the maximum speed to the required level using the No. 3 hollow screw. Loosen the locking nut and screw in to decrease the maximum speed or unscrew to increase. After adjustment, tighten the nut. Setting the maximum speed is necessary to protect the trimmer motor from overheating and the ability to use the release key lock to reduce fatigue of the right hand.

In the future, it may be necessary to adjust the trimmer carburetor. For example, if the engine, when operating at full load, starts to pick up revs poorly, loosen screw No. 1 another quarter of a turn. If it is difficult to start, increase the idle speed. Weather conditions and the quality of the fuel mixture can affect the operation of lawn mowers. The vibration can also make the adjusting screws turn themselves.

The spring may interfere

My first attempt to adjust the carburetor of the lawn mowers did not work, as the spring of the fuel mixture adjustment screw prevented it. The factory spring turned out to be too thick in a compressed state and did not give the opportunity to reduce the fuel supply to the required level. I had to pick up another spring and continue adjusting after replacing it.

In the photo above, the factory spring, below the adjustment screw with a selected spring. I am writing about this, because I’m not sure that this is an isolated case, and someone else may encounter the same situation.

From personal experience

Lawn mowing or trimmer

A trimmer is a broader concept than a lawn mow (lawn mow), since it can also be electric. A gas trimmer and a lawn mower are one and the same.

Some authors claim that the trimmer is a weaker tool, in contrast to the more powerful lawn mowers, which can be used to mow shrubs. Personally, I have a tool with a maximum power of 1.7 kW and capable of mowing a small shrub up to 10 mm thick, as stated in the instructions. The user manual is called “Petrol trimmer. “.

Fuel mix ratio

I read somewhere that if in the instruction manual for lawn mowers and on the canister with oil different proportions of the preparation of the fuel mixture are indicated, the proportion indicated in the manual should be used.

It did so for a long time. Excess oil flowed from the engine to the gas tank and soot was constantly forming on the candle, since the manual indicated the proportion for the engine being run in 1:25, and on the canister. 1:50. After the transition to a proportion of 1:50, the appearance of oil drips stopped. The candle continued to burn, but with less intensity (the carburetor was not yet adjusted).

Until now, some users of gasoline tools determine the proportion of the fuel mixture “by eye”. If during the preparation of the mixture the amount of oil is underestimated, after some time an extraneous sound may appear immediately after the engine starts, gradually disappearing during warming up, and the engine stops with a sharp jerk. Continued operation of the trimmer in this mode will lead to its failure.

Candle cleaning

In the worst days of working with a trimmer with an unregulated carburetor, the engine stopped starting after using each fuel tank. And only after cleaning the candles from soot could we continue to work.

To clean the electrodes, fine sandpaper was used, and to clean the space between the insulator and the body, a thin clerical clip with a bent end was used. First, the electrodes were wiped off with a lot of dirt with a rag, then they were cleaned with sandpaper. After that, the candle was lowered into diesel fuel and the moistened soot was scraped off with a paper clip from the surfaces of the insulator, the inside of the housing and between them. Further, the candle was lowered several times in diesel fuel, which was then shaken off from it along with impurities. Sometimes the cleaning procedure with a paper clip and washing are repeated. After that, the candle was wiped dry and was ready for further use.

Incredibly, one tank of the fuel mixture with an unregulated carburetor can be consumed in less than 10 minutes. It was tested in practice when the trimmer was started and operated at high speeds with maximum fuel supply (the adjusting screw was unscrewed much more than normal).

How to wear a trimmer belt

Working with a trimmer is much more convenient and easier with a special belt. Thanks to him, the operator can mow large areas of grass for several hours without pain in the joints and muscles. The design of the two-shoulder belt is designed in such a way that the lawn mowing is held by means of fastenings itself. Without the help of hands. She only needs to set the direction, and she will do the rest herself. How to properly attach the belt to the trimmer and adjust it for yourself to ease the load, and we will talk about this material.

Trimmer Backpack Strap. Intended Use

Many models of trimmers are equipped with a regular slanting belt. However, for work it is best to purchase a backpack strap that is specifically designed for lawn mowing. Thanks to a well-thought-out design, it evenly distributes the weight of the device to the whole body. Padded shoulder pads reduce severity and relieve pain in the forearms. A hard back disperses the load between the upper and lower back, excluding the lower back. The shockproof protection for the thigh prevents the lawn mowers from contacting the leg so that it does not rub and does not transmit vibration. In addition, the belt provides:

  • Convenient transportation of the trimmer;
  • Comfort during operation due to ergonomic position of the braid relative to the body;
  • Safety at work. A backpack belt prevents the lawn mowers from slipping out of your hands when hard objects get under the knife.

What is a backpack belt

It should be understood that the weight of the refueled lawn mowers is on average 6–9 kg. And this device must always be kept in limbo. In order to evenly distribute the load, the backpack belt seems to encircle the body from all sides. The main load falls on the shoulders and back, so its upper part is complemented by wide foam inserts and fabric straps. Further, the belts descend along the body and, with the help of a quick-detachable clip, are connected to each other in the area of the chest or abdomen. And so that under load the belt does not crash into the body, a wide and durable lining is provided. A plastic foot protector is attached to the belt. It has a snap hook for attaching to the trimmer and spring cushioning. Easy to unfasten and fasten the lawn mowers provides a quick-release latch located on top.

On a note! Different models of knapsack belts may differ among themselves in the design of locks, carbines, the presence or absence of additional pads and latches. However, the principle of design and operation is the same for them.

Belt adjustment

To ensure comfortable working conditions, you need to be able to correctly wear a backpack belt. This process requires some skill, but then, after adjusting the satchel for yourself for the first time, it will be worn much faster and easier.

Hook height adjustment

The most important thing is to adjust the belt so that the trimmer is at the right level from the ground. To do this, raise or lower the height of the hook, which is done by tightening the shoulder straps until the holder is below the hips by 10-15 cm (palm width). In this case, the knife of the attached braid should be parallel to the surface, that is, in strictly horizontal position.

On a note! If the trimmer is attached too high, it will severely limit grass grabbing.

Balancing the scythe by moving the abalone

After fixing the required height for yourself, you need to balance the trimmer. To do this, the eye is rearranged, with the help of which the device is suspended from the belt, forward or backward. As a result, you need to attach the belt to the trimmer so that when releasing the steering wheel, the knife or saw blade did not lie on the ground, but hung over it, without touching the surface. How far it will be located depends on the goals set.

Advice! A distance of 20-30 cm above the ground is suitable for mowing tall grass, and for lawns you need 5-10 cm.

Shoulder strap adjustment

In order for the load to be distributed evenly on the shoulders and back, you need to adjust the shoulder straps well. To do this, it is enough to tighten or relax the straps. They should not dig into the body or hang down. You can understand how the weight will be dispersed if you press the hook for hanging the braids with your own hands.

Securing the lawn mowers to a belt

Depending on the model, the gasoline braid can be mounted on a belt using a strap or loop. In the latter case, to balance, you need to move it around the bar to get the desired result. In some cases, shock absorption mechanisms are provided that smooth out the vibration and soften the sharp jumps of the trimmer.

Handle balancing

An important step in adjusting the knapsack belt is also to adjust the handles to the optimum level. When the operator holds the lawn mowing, his hands should be relaxed, and his shoulders should be parallel to the body. Therefore, after fitting the two-shoulder belt, the two-handed mechanism should be adjusted by moving it up or down. It is necessary to achieve such a result that the hands only set the direction, and not hold the device. If after this the trimmer balance is again disturbed, you will have to repeat all the steps again.

Safety regulations

Among the safest and most popular trimmers, products from German manufacturers (including Denzel) are especially valued, as they pay increased attention to quality and reliability. However, despite the brand and model, there are a number of rules that must be clearly known and observed when using the trimmer.

  1. Before use, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the instruction manual.
  2. You can not work with the trimmer in a state of fatigue, illness, intoxication.
  3. It is forbidden to use the braid in explosive and fire hazardous areas.
  4. Do not mow during thunderstorms and rain, or after rain when the grass is wet.
  5. You can only work in the daytime, in good light conditions.
  6. Use only the type of fuel and lubricant that is suitable for the particular trimmer model.
  7. It is not recommended to repair the tool yourself.
  8. Do not touch rotating or heating elements during operation.
  9. Do not smoke or make fire during mowing, etc.

Important! When using the trimmer, there are other factors harmful to health: increased noise, vibration, exhaust fumes, high temperature of some parts, flying branches, etc. To minimize risks, you need to use protective clothing, glasses and headphones.

If you still have questions about adjusting the lawn mowers on a backpack belt, you can try to find the answers in the instruction manual that came with the product, or watch a on the Internet where it is clearly and readily shown how to set up and adjust the belt with the lawn mowing.
