How to make a potato tiller for a power tiller with your own hands

Every homesteader knows the problem of harvesting potatoes. When processing a small plot, it is possible to use a shovel, and this is what many people do. However, it is much easier to use the potato puller for the tiller, even on one sotka. This attachment equipment can be purchased or made with your own hands.

Attaching the spudger to the machine

The method of attachment to the motoblock:

  • This is first of all done by preparing the tiller. Remove PTO shaft guard. Take out the securing pin from the trailed unit.
  • Put a semi-cardan on the potato harvester gearbox input shaft.
  • Attach the implement to the trailed unit of the power tiller. Secure it with a bolt.
  • At this stage check the operability of the driven shaft and the driven shaft. To adjust the alignment use the adjusting bolts on the trailed unit.
  • Secure all threaded joints with lock nuts.

One of the most important steps is to adjust the length of the half gimbal. It is set so that in relation to the gearbox there is a gap of 5-10 mm.

To connect to a mini-tractor, you will need to buy a special mechanism designed to connect the potato harvester as an attachment.

Rules of manufacturing of each detail separately and assembly of the whole mechanism.

The base

It is optimal to use a square sectional tube 40×40 mm. It is better to take a billet of 4 meters and divide it into pieces of 120 and 80 centimeters. Create four support beams.

From them it is necessary to weld the base at right angles in the form of a rectangle. Its dimensions will be 120 x 80 cm.

Fixing for tie rods

It is necessary to weld crosspieces not in the middle of the frame (rectangle), but on a quarter of its length.

Fix the square tubes vertically on the back side of the base by welding. They are placed outside the base to install the axle. The wheels are subsequently mounted on the axle.

Use a drill or an engraver to make a 1 centimeter hole in a convenient location for attachment.

Vertical props

Let’s make a 5 centimeters step back from the edge of the frame and fix a square profile by welding. Its length is no more than 50 centimeters. After 15-20 cm. We also fix a square profile by welding, but it is already 40 centimeters long. After the second post, we measure 40 centimeters, and weld the profile of 30 centimeters.

As a result, the construction looks like a metal ladder.

Stiffen the uprights

Fix the uprights at the bottom of the structure. For this purpose a 0,4. 0,5 mm strip of metal is used. Connect the uprights by welding at 45 degrees, with additional welding strips between each other.

Stanchions or a frame

Creation of the working part of the potato plough. This self-made ploughshare has to plunge into the soil, digging the potato rows for the harvest.

You need 0.3mm thick steel to make the frame. Cut out two “working” blades according to the drawing and weld a homemade plow. To give a volumetric shape that is convenient for gripping the soil, you need to hammer the center of the blades, pre-tightening the entire structure with a fastening rod.

Making a rolling board

The ladder board is an extension of the potato harvester, or rather steel bars welded to the base. The easiest way to do it is to use reinforcing bars with diameters of no more than 10 mm and a length of up to 120 cm. Every 4-5 centimeters you need to weld a rebar, as shown in the photo.

Adjustment rods

Unnecessary element, because the adjustment is needed only on the problem (watery) soil.

The rods easily regulate the right angle for the inclination of the reinforcing (sloping) board. The easiest way to make a movable structure in the form of a frame, on which the sloping board is placed. The frame is tightened with conventional bolts.

Support wheels

The design of the digger for the power tiller, created with their own hands, necessarily equipped with movable wheels for the convenience of work and movement.

It is most advantageous to equip the digger wheels from a garden wheelbarrow with a wide tire. We purchase axles, fix them to the frame and install the wheels. The wheels are easier to fix with a pin (as in the construction of a garden wheelbarrow).

Potato digger for MotoBlock. features of making it with their own hands

Harvesting potatoes used to be a lot of work and time-consuming. Today the life of farmers has simplified, because there is an opportunity to buy potato digger for power tillers, which greatly simplifies the process and allows you to save time and effort. And if you’re not lazy, you can assemble a digger for your power tiller with your own hands. In this case, the farm will also save a good amount of money.

Potato harvester for MotoBlock

Potato digger for power tiller. mounted special equipment for mechanization of the last cycle of potato growing. digging. Considerably simplifies the work of the landowner. The crop is dug up in a few minutes, depending on the size of the plot, all that remains is to collect the potatoes in bags. The devices come in different types, designed for small households with different soil conditions.

Important! To harvest potatoes with this type of mechanized harvesting method you need to consider the width of the planting, the potato position and the size of the potato digging blades. Also important is the power of the power tiller.

Potato digger with their own hands. equipment, materials, manufacturing procedure

Fast harvesting is not only important for farmers, but also for owners of homestead lands. Digging potatoes in one or two days is especially important in cold, rainy autumn, when it is difficult to choose a nice day to go to the fields. Speed up the work will help potato harvester, your own hands can make a simple and effective unit, the performance is not inferior to factory analogues.

/Potato diggers are used on loose and medium compacted soils. Machines for digging potatoes are different:

  • size;
  • design features;
  • the width of the working strip;
  • The requirements for clearing the field of weeds;
  • how to clean the tubers from the ground.

Masters make several types of potato diggers with their own hands. The most popular are fan and screen units. experienced craftsmen make conveyor and drum shovels for potatoes.

Types of potato diggers

The units under consideration are divided into two main types lancet and vibratory (screen).

Arrow-shaped potato diggers, they are also called fan-shaped, are a ploughshare, to which are welded inclined rods. This is the simplest kind of device, which can be attached to any power tiller or small tractor. Such a potato digger for a power tiller is made quite simply.

The principle of operation of a simple potato digger is to undercut the soil layer, along with the crop, after which the soil falls back between the bars, and the tubers remain on the surface. This construction is only effective in loose soils.

The vibrating or screen potato digger consists of two main parts. This is a ploughshare (ploughshare) and a vibrating sieve, located on support wheels. the ploughshare picks up some of the soil with tubers and throws them onto the screen. It vibrates the soil so that only the potatoes remain on the sieve.

Despite the simplicity and ease of use, as well as high performance efficiency, the screen potato digger for power tillers with their own hands is difficult and laborious. However, all the difficulties in the making of the machine later on are more than worth it.

Basic types of potato diggers

Any potato digger is designed to loosen the soil under the potato bushes and transport the tubers with its tines to the surface, where they remain easy to collect by hand.

There are several types of potato diggers for power tillers, which you can make yourself for digging crops on the homestead plot:

  • simple (lancet, single-row, fan-type). the type of plow;
  • vibrating, or screen;
  • conveyor type (they are also single-row);
  • universal.

A simple potato plough for a power tiller is a plough to which guide rods (arrows) are welded. When the plough digs into the ground, the soil, together with the tubers, rises along the bars. in this case the excess soil is sieved and the tubers remain on the soil surface. Such potato digger can be installed on a mini tractor or any single-axle tractor, such as Neva, MTZ, Salyut.

Vibrating (vibrating-crushing) potato harvester is a design, which uses ploughshare and one or more sieve grids, supported by wheels. The blade loosens the soil, which together with potato tops and tubers falls on the grates. The soil is sifted in the process, and the potato tubers, separated from the haulm, are poured onto the surface of the cultivated row.

Transporter potato digger for power tiller is a more complex version, where the soil from the ploughshare falls on the moving conveyor belt, equipped with a hitch device. This allows you to hold the tubers on the belt, while clearing them from the soil. This kind of digger is more practical than a vibratory digger, but only for heavy soils.

Universal potato diggers combine several of the above types of attachments. here it all depends on what functions you want to give your potato digger, made specifically for your site.

Instructions for constructing a passive potato digger for a power tiller

The self-made potato digger is much easier to make than a lot of other makeshift devices. To make a passive design, you should stock up:

  • a sheet of iron for the ploughshare with a thickness of 3 to 5 mm. Preference should be given to strong steel, so that the shovel will remain sharp as long as possible;
  • with a steel circle or rebar with a diameter of 8-10 mm for a grid with a screening function;
  • with a 10mm thick channel or steel strip for a trailed structure;
  • Angle 30 mm to strengthen the installation;
  • a machine for manual arc welding;
  • a drill, and elements for fasteners.

The most effective form of plowshare is the form of a classic cultivator called a dovetail. If you need to bend a whole sheet of metal in a straight line, it should be preheated with, for example, a gas burner. Experts recommend that the working edge for hardness should be forged. Harden the workpiece after giving it its final shape. Once you have welded the bars to the backside, this part of the metal can be released. No need to worry about this, the work surface will still be strong enough and hard enough.

The second method of construction and the most preferred is to use old circular saw blades. excellent wear-resistant steel. Cut out two squares with an angle grinder and weld them at an angle with an electric welder. Of course, subsequent hardening is recommended. This ploughshare will give you a long service life and sharpness.

You can use old farming equipment as a support, for example, you can use the holder from a classic plow. That’s what most people do, as a rule. If such a part is not available, a steel strip would do. But the use of channels, and even more so of angles, is not possible for this purpose, because too much resistance in the process of cutting the ground.

It is possible to make a channel hanger, but it is necessary to provide the ability to adjust the plunge depth and angle of attack.

For such a homemade potato harvester does not require mandatory supervision during digging and harvesting. If your power tiller has a seat attached. you just need to move quietly along the rows with ripe potatoes, and the freshly dug-out white crop will be visible behind you.
