The drill cannot be pulled out of the perforator

It is difficult to imagine carrying out construction or repair work without the use of a specialized tool. A perforator. Hammers produce three classes: light, medium and heavy. All of them are equipped with a chuck with the ability to quickly change tools on the SDS system. The Germans say Steck-Dreh-Sitzt in the English version. Special Direct System. To whom it is more convenient. A standard developed by Bosch in the mid-70s of the last century.

Sds shank. What, how, where

For convenient operation, quick change of the working tool, as well as to increase the contact area of the drill shank with the chuck, the SDS standard was introduced.

The drill cannot be pulled out of the perforator

Bosch has developed 5 types of shank:

  • Sds. The first representative of its class, a shank with two grooves;
  • Sds-plus. Developed on the basis of SDS and is fully compatible with it, complemented by 2 grooves. Shank diameter is 10mm. Used in lightweight rotary hammers. Maximum drilling diameter. Up to 26mm;
  • Sds-top. Reinforced SDS-plus, shank diameter. 14mm. Designed to eliminate drill breakage when drilling large diameters of 16-26mm. Requires the installation of another cartridge on the hammer.
  • Sds-max is the standard for heavy professional rotary hammers. Shank diameter is 18mm. Diameter of holes. From 20mm.
  • Sds-quick is a system developed in 2008. It is used only on specialized equipment (several models of Bosch rotary hammers). ¼ inch holder compatible

Two standards have become widespread and popular: SDS-plus. For light punchers and SDS-max. For heavy ones, as the most demanded in the construction market.

Punch Tool Classification

A modern rotary hammer is a multi-purpose tool. It is enough to choose the right equipment and you will have the opportunity to perform a wide range of construction works, from removing tiles in the bathroom and ending with the expansion of a door or window opening.

Most rotary hammers on the market operate in three modes:

Yes, exactly so, drilling with an impact is called drilling. Each operating mode has its own equipment. State-of-the-art drill punch kits provide most basic operations.

Impact mode. The main mode of operation of the tool. Depending on the model of the perforator, the translational movement of the piston transfers energy to the shock mechanism and to the equipment (pneumatics). In some light punchers under the influence of a mechanical system. Springs.

Bosch rotary hammers are also equipped with the additional function of turning the chisel at a given angle (46 positions). Vario lock.

In shock mode are used:

  • Shoulder blades;
  • Peaks;
  • Duct chisels;
  • Semicircular chisels;
  • Gear teeth;
  • Mortar cutters;
  • Ramming plates;
  • Core boards;
  • Sledgehammers.

The drill cannot be pulled out of the perforator

The drilling mode is used when drilling holes in concrete, brick and masonry. The simultaneous use of impact and rotational motion ensures rapid destruction of the material in the cutting zone due to crushing with subsequent sampling of the material. The drills used for such work are called drills or drill bits. Also in the drilling mode with impact, core drills are used to select material for future installation of outlet groups and switches. The length of the drill for the punch is from 100mm to 1m.

Drilling mode is used for drilling wood, plastic and other soft materials. Also, a lightweight rotary hammer (up to 3 kg) can be used as a screwdriver.

Important. Drill mode without impact must be used with certain specifications. When operating only in rotation mode, the hammer must be put into rotation mode with a shock and idle to distribute lubricant inside the tool.

Selection and installation of drills for a perforator

As the earlier ones said, among 5 Bosch standards, two were widely used: SDS-plus. With a shank diameter of 10 mm and SDS-max. With a shank diameter of 18 mm.

Accordingly, most rigging is performed to these standards. Of course, it is possible to use equipment with an SDS-max shank on lightweight rotary hammers, but this is not advisable due to their low power, which will lead to a reduction in tool life.

Choosing a drill manufacturer for a hammer drill

Only a dozen or so (to be precise 14 companies) manufacturers of drills for perforators are registered in the world. At the same time, several brands can be produced at one factory. So, in Germany, the DreBo Werkzengfabrik factory produces products for Hitachi, AEG, Milwaukee, Wurth.

In this case, there is no doubt about the quality of the drill. At the same time, these brands are also successfully produced in China.

But not all of China is of poor quality. So, the same Bosch has its plants in China. Products manufactured under the Bosch brand are no worse than their European counterpart, and in some cases even better. The main thing is to get into an industrial producer, not a scrub.

Slurry Intensity

Sludge discharge is one of the most important properties of drills. The quality of drilling directly depends on the speed of removal of crumbs. For shallow holes (up to 60 mm) drills with a small slope of the helical grooves are well suited. For more intensive drilling, it is necessary to use a drill with a steep spiral. The disadvantage of this equipment is a decrease in the strength of the drill body.

Screw drills are removed as quickly and efficiently as possible. They are most effective for drilling deep holes.

How to insert a drill into an SDS cartridge

Installing a drill in an SDS cartridge is not a big deal.

Before installing the working tool, you should make sure that the tool is working, make sure there are no chips and cracks on it, and check if the rubber boot is broken. It must be cleaned of dust. After this, you need to apply a specialized lubricant to the slots of the snap and insert it with effort into the perforator cartridge.

Press it until it clicks. Pull the drill toward you, if it cannot be removed, the installation is successful. To replace the drill, it is necessary to squeeze the cartridge ring along the axis towards the tool and remove the drill.

Important: During operation, the drill heats up; change the equipment only with gloves to avoid burns.

To increase the operating line and prevent accelerated wear, the tool, like the tool, must always be kept clean, removing excess grease and dust adhering to it.

Punch cartridge malfunctions

Since the hammer operates in very difficult operating conditions, breakdowns can not be avoided. Most often, perforator cartridges fail. Sometimes a drill may fly out of a punch, which indicates wear of the ball or washer of the cartridge. In this case, they must be replaced in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

With improper use, you can break the drill in the drill chuck. In this case, there will be two options for the development of the event.

First. Remove the sealing washer, plastic clip and stopper. Remove the sleeve and the retainer ball. The shank of the drill must exit freely from the barrel of the hammer drill.

Another option is to flatten the back of the shank. In this case, it will be necessary to disassemble the entire drill to “drown” the drill shank in the tool barrel. You can independently carry out this procedure if you have experience or, at least, a detailed diagram of the disassembly of the tool. But it is better to entrust this work to professionals.

Important: in order not to break the drill in the perforator, it must be removed regularly, inspect the shank, remove dust and grease, and also apply new grease.

The operation of the tool, according to the requirements of the manufacturer, will provide the tool with service for many years.
