The Petrol Trimmer Stalls When Gas Is Added
If the cases when the car stalls when you press the accelerator pedal are becoming more frequent and are not associated with moisture and problems in the electronic components of the car, then, most likely, the fuel system is sick. And first of all, you should check how things are with the vacuum. By default, a vacuum is created in the vehicle’s fuel supply system. But if its tightness is broken, various problems are possible associated with insufficient fuel supply to the engine. And stopping the engine when pressing the gas pedal is an eloquent symptom of such problems. But only an experienced auto mechanic can identify such a problem. In case of vacuum violations in the fuel system, the Check Engine indicator may also light up.
TPS and other sensors
Most often, if the car stalls when you press the gas, then the reason is electronic sensors, because on the basis of information from them, a fuel-air mixture is formed. In particular, the following sensors should be checked:
Again, we are talking about modern cars equipped with direct fuel injection systems, simply put, injectors. In most cases, but not always, the Check Engine indicator indicates the failure of any of the sensors. To determine which sensor is damaged, only a specialist who has the necessary equipment at his disposal and armed with the necessary knowledge and skills can.
But not always, a failed sensor must be changed immediately. For example, an air flow meter, or a mass air flow sensor, can be rinsed with aviation kerosene and allowed to dry. After that, if you’re lucky, the sensor will work out more than one tens of thousands of kilometers. By the way, you can also clean the TPS. If cleaning does not help, you will have to change the failed sensor.
The car stalls when you press the gas
If the car engine stops without the driver’s desire, and there is fuel in the tank and there are no other valid reasons, then some kind of breakdown has occurred. This is understandable even for a novice car enthusiast. But when at idle the car works normally, but stalls when you press the gas, then this is puzzling. Meanwhile, this behavior of the motor has its own reasons and minor symptoms that allow these reasons to be diagnosed, however, without being examined at the service station, it is not always possible to assert that the engine stalls, for this particular reason.
Trambler and moisture problems
If your car stalls when you press the gas, but only with an unheated engine and usually in the morning, moisture may have accumulated under the distributor cover. Because of this, a breakdown occurs and, as a result, a violation in the distribution of a spark.
It is very simple to define it. Firstly, the car starts to troit, sneeze, and sometimes it stalls even at idle. And secondly, in a dark garage or at night, just open the hood and start the engine. All breakdowns will immediately show their face. In general, the problem is very eloquent and easy to diagnose. Well, you can eliminate it either by replacing the ignition distributor cover, or eliminate moisture in any other way.
Other possible problems
Also, the car can stall when you press the gas pedal and for other reasons. And although they are not as common as those described above, nevertheless, such reasons do occur and you should know about them.
- Poor quality or worn out candles;
- Problems with the catalyst;
- Clogged air or fuel filters
Actually, even this list of factors causing the engine to stop when the gas is pressed cannot be considered exhaustive. Much will depend on the car model, on the design features of its engine and fuel system. In general, if we exclude all problems with spark plugs and ignition, then we can safely say that the car stalls when you press the gas, either because of problems with the fuel supply, or because of problems with the air supply. These are the two main components of the fuel-air mixture, on which the motors of all cars work, in addition to electric cars, of course.
As we can see, in most cases, problems leading to engine shutdown after pressing the accelerator pedal can only be eliminated by a specialist. Nevertheless, there is nothing critical, besides the fact that it is simply impossible to use the car normally, such symptomatology does not mean, and as a rule, even expensive repairs will not be required, except when the catalyst needs to be replaced. Since this unit is very expensive, regardless of the car model. Replacing sensors or filters does not cost much.
Therefore, as soon as a similar situation arose and repeated at least two times, you need to contact the service station, since the fact that the car stalls right during the trip is at least inconvenient and unpleasant.
: The car starts and stalls immediately.
Low oil in the fuel mixture
Let’s look at the most unpleasant case first. Why? Because before manipulating the filters, it is better to make sure that your oil and gasoline are mixed in the correct ratio.
Here, however, it is worth noting that if your saw has already been turned on many times (for example, ten times), but continues to start, and then stalls again when the speed increases, then apparently everything is in order with the fuel. Otherwise, she would have simply stopped working at all.
But still, I recommend that you immediately dispel the slightest doubts about the quality of the fuel, as soon as your saw stalled when you accelerate for the first time. Because, if the reason is in the fuel, then, as mentioned above, you can get expensive repairs. Otherwise, you can still do it. To dispel doubts is to drain the old fuel from the tank and fill in freshly prepared fuel, in which oil and gasoline are mixed in the correct proportion.
The correct ratio is best seen in the instructions for the saw. If you have lost it, then we look at the ratio on the oil package. It is usually 1:50 or 1:40. If the oil is used non-native (well, for example, for Stihl chainsaws, Stihl will also be a little native), then I recommend using a ratio of 1:40, even if the oil packaging says 1:50.
For an accurate dosage, I myself personally use a medical syringe and a measuring container in which one liter of gasoline can be clearly measured. I pour a liter of gasoline into a container, draw 25 (at 1:40) or 20 (at 1:50) cubes of oil into the syringe and add it to the gasoline.
After preparing a new mixture, drain the previous mixture from the tank, in which we are unsure, and fill in the fresh one just prepared.
Now that you have done everything to dispel any doubts about the quality of the fuel, we move on to further actions.
As I wrote above, with a lack of oil on the piston and cylinder walls, scuffs can form, and they are almost always formed. If you are lucky and no seizure appears, then with the new fuel mixture prepared in the correct ratio, the chainsaw should start working normally.
If seizures have appeared, then the saw may start and stall several more times, after which it will stop starting altogether. In such a situation, I sympathize with you, because, most likely, now you will need to replace the piston group, which will be very expensive.
If the saw, as before, starts and stalls at high speeds, then we manipulate the filters.
Why does the chainsaw stall when you press the gas?
Hello! If you find yourself on this page, then, most likely, your chainsaw stalls when you press the gas, and you want to know why this is happening and what to do about it. Well, I will try to help you with this problem by examining the most common causes of such a misfortune, as well as methods of eliminating them.
To begin with, I will immediately write for novice users that many chainsaws require warming up the engine idling for about one minute before work. Saw may stall when gas is added while engine is cold.
So, if a heated chainsaw can idle, but stalls under load, then this means that:
- Improperly tuned or clogged carburetor is the most common case;
- It does not have enough air, the consumption of which increases sharply with increasing speed, which means that the air filter is dirty (a rare case, since the filter becomes clogged gradually, so the user first notices a loss of power);
- It does not have enough fuel, the consumption of which also increases with increasing speed, which means that the fuel filter is dirty (also an infrequent case);
- Well, and the most unpleasant case, if there is excessive friction between the piston and the cylinder wall, associated with a lack of oil in the fuel mixture, after such a chainsaw operation, you will most likely fly into the repair of the piston group, since seizures form on the piston and cylinder walls that impede operation saws.
Let’s analyze these cases separately.
Air filter dirty
It’s easy to make sure the air filter is dirty. You just need to remove it and start the chainsaw without it, if the saw works fine, then it’s in it and it just needs to be changed or washed, depending on its type. And do not be afraid that the chainsaw will work for a while without protection from dust if there is no dust cloud around you, then everything is in order.
So, remove the air filter. To do this, you need to remove the cover from the rear upper part of the chainsaw, which is fastened either with screws, or simply with some kind of lock, which you just need to turn or snap off.
If the saw operates normally when the filter is removed after starting up, then it is dirty.
The air filter is either felt or nylon. The first resembles cotton wool or synthetic winterizer, and the second looks like a fine mesh of nylon threads stretched over a plastic case. Felt needs to be changed to a new one, but nylon can be simply washed in soapy water, dried and put back in place.
Well, then we calmly use the chainsaw.
Fuel filter dirty
If the option with an air filter did not suit you, then we try to change the fuel one. It is located in the gas tank and is attached to the hose through which fuel is taken from the tank.
This hose must be gently pryed off with something and removed from the gas tank its edge, on which the filter is fixed. Here, the option with work without a filter, as in the case of an air filter, is better not to apply, since you cannot know for sure if there are any unnecessary impurities in the fuel.
Therefore, we simply change the fuel filter to a new one and try to work. If everything is fine, then congratulations you found the reason.
Cleaning and adjusting the carburetor
If all of the above did not help, then, most likely, adjustment or cleaning of the carburetor is required. It is not recommended to do these procedures on your own, since most often such attempts still end with a trip to the service. So it’s better to go there right away and not disassemble anything on your own. But if you still want to dig deeper yourself, then it is best to look at which shows how experts do it:
I will end on this. Thanks for your attention! Read more articles on this site! Until next time!
Why does the petrol trimmer stall
A scythe with a gasoline drive is a useful thing for owners of home gardens, lawns, and when the trimmer suddenly stalls, the work on clearing the area from grass stops. The device itself is a rather complex mechanism, so there are many different reasons for its breakdown. The most common problems are contained in the operating instructions. You should know the reasons why the trimmer stalls in order to effectively repair the device yourself.
At idle, common reasons for trim stopping are as follows:
- Contamination, misalignment or incorrectly adjusted carburetor adjustment;
- Clogged air filter;
Replacing the air filter for lawn mowers
Trimmer air filter
- Reducing the speed of the gearbox when it heats up, which is a consequence of the use of an unsuitable fuel mixture;
- Clogged throttle;
- Air entering the system;
- Not enough fuel to operate the lawn mowers.
What could have broken
Problems with the lawn mower due to the fact that this device does not start are classified in a certain way by service specialists. They highlight faults with the following components of the mechanism:
- An engine in which the piston and bearings may wear out or fail, crack the crankcase;
- Fuel supply system, while filter clogging or problems with the carburetor is possible;
- Mechanical damage to wires, tubes, hoses;
- Ignition circuit.
When you hit the gas
If the lawn mower stops when the throttle is pressed, the reasons may be as follows:.
- The most common variant is carburetor adjustment failure, which occurs when the drive is under heavy load, after prolonged inactivity of the mechanism, or when it is used in difficult conditions.
- Clogged fuel valve, which is eliminated by loosening it, as a result of which gasoline begins to flow normally through the system.
- Loosening and drooping of the cable in the carburetor. The fuel hose may also be stretched to the point of rupture due to significant stress.
- Clogged breather (check valve), as a result of which fuel does not flow into the tank.
If the problem is related to the carburetor unit, then it can be recognized by the appearance of vibrations of the lawn mower.. When the hose bursts or the cable is stretched, these components are replaced.
At high revs
When the scythe stalls at high speeds, this is due to the following problems:
- Clogging or sticking of the valve located on the gas tank cap;
- The carburetor is out of alignment under the influence of vibrations arising from the operation of the mechanism;
- Problems with the circulation of the fuel mixture;
- Suction of atmospheric air;
- The fuel intake hose is cracked or loose.
Adjust the carburetor referring to the trimmer operating instructions. For adjustment, it is often sufficient to loosen the tightening of its housing. If there are problematic points with the circulation of the fuel mixture, then it can gradually enter the carburetor. After its development, the engine stalls at high speeds.
Immediately after wound up
The unit may stall immediately after starting if the carburetor is misaligned or incorrectly adjusted, this causes uneven fuel supply. The result of this is that the device vibrates distinctly. For troubleshooting, the carburetor is reconfigured, following the instructions for the mechanism.
Also, the engine stops when the fuel supply valve becomes clogged. In such cases, it is sufficient to simply clean it. If the mower started working at first, but then immediately stalled, then it is possible that the fuel enters the carburetor unit with some difficulty. Weakening the valve helps to resolve the issue, which ensures free circulation of the mixture in the system.
The stoppage can also be caused by air leaks in the presence of mechanical damage to the hose (holes, cracks) that takes the fuel. In this case, add more revolutions to the drive in order to quickly expel air bubbles from the system.
