Modern gazonocosyl robots are designed to work in areas with an area of ​​several hundred to several thousand square meters. It produces their rather limited number of companies: the technique itself is not easy and requires the organization of not only sales, but also training specialists in their warranty and service maintenance. over, many dealers also offer a set of services for installing and setting up gazonocosyl robots. In principle, there is nothing complicated about this, but, of course, the specialist will cope with the installation and conduct preliminary tuning faster and better: he has the necessary equipment and experience.

In our master class, we will consider the installation of a gazonocos robot on the example of the Automower 420 model from Husqvarna. In the lineup of six Husqvarna mowers (read their review here approx. Ed.) This model is fourth “in terms of difficulty”. But the main emphasis will be on the features of the installation common to all robotic lawn mowers. In general, all manufacturers are the same, they have “nuances”, but they are not a secret, everything is indicated in the instructions for a specific model.

We will also talk about other “subtleties”, but in passing. In the model rows of even one manufacturer, automatic braids differ primarily in the maximum allowable processing area. And the more it is, the more “bells and whistles” and the model, especially in terms of settings. It makes no sense to make Accent: different manufacturers have the structure of the settings menu varies. over, even the same models, but released at different times, have differences. the technique is improved, individual nodes, electronic blocks and versions of firmware are changing, new opportunities appear. Selection, restrictions and preparation of the site

As already mentioned, gazonocosyl robots-a complex technique. This has its advantage. A potential buyer can count on receiving a detailed consultation from the seller based on the features of the site. It is enough to know what exactly it is worth paying his attention to.

The main parameter is the maximum allowable processing area. It is indicated subject to continuous operation of a mowing with interruptions for charging. It is usually assumed that the mower works around the clock (but not always, some manufacturers still have restrictions on the maximum time of work during the day). Of course, this parameter is indicated under “optimal conditions”. a new battery, a flat lawn of a relatively simple shape with a minimum of obstacles. So there will not be some kind of “area” in the area, and the actual time of work sufficient to obtain the desired result can be configured during operation.

The shape of the site does not play a particular role, but there are some restrictions on the angle of inclination (its maximum allowable value is indicated in all models of mowers), as well as the minimum width of “narrow places”, if any, there are any. In general, before choosing a robot model, there is a reason to draw a site diagram and make approximate measurements. Most lawns “fit” into standard circuits, even a relatively simple model can process them.

As for the preparation of the lawn for installing a gazonocosel robot, it is almost no different from preparation for any other mowing equipment. It is necessary to provide an even surface without pits, where rainwater usually accumulates, remove tubercles and extraneous objects that can fall under the knives. Before the first launch, if the grass has grown high, it must be cut to any other device.

Planning and preparation

Automower installation process must be carefully planned. We recommend that you draw up a scheme of the working area with all the obstacles and relief features on your site. Using such a scheme, you can easily determine the perfect location of the charging station, restrictive and guide wires.

Also in advance, select the junction of the guide wire with a restrictive one, and when laying a restrictive wire, leave a loop 10 cm in this place in this place. This will greatly simplify the connection of the guide and restrictive wires.

Laying the wire

Laying the restrictive wire begins and ends at the charging station. Leave an additional 50 cm wire to connect to the charger.

Fasten the wire with fixers or deepen it into the ground:

After laying the restrictive wire around the perimeter of the entire working area, connect both ends of the restrictive wire to the charger.

Distance from the restrictive wire to objects

Since the lawn mower always moves through the wire before stopping, the wire should be laid at different distance from obstacles. To determine the correct distance, use the Automower line included three marks in the kit: the minimum, average and maximum distance. Suitable distances depend on the model. General recommendations

  • Lay a limiting wire at a distance of 35 cm from obstacles with a height of more than 5 cm.
  • Lay a limiting wire at a distance of 30 cm from obstacles 1-5 cm high.
  • Lay a limiting wire at a distance of 10 cm from obstacles with a height of less than 1 cm.
  • To solid objects, such as fences and walls, you should leave the maximum distance. otherwise the lawn mower will hit a solid facility at every turn.
  • To floral flower beds and shrubs, where there is no risk of blow, it is enough to leave the average distance. With a lower distance, the lawn mower can go beyond the lawn and get stuck. If the distance is too large, downshole will remain along the edges of the lawn.
  • To the paved tracks located on the same level with the lawn, it is recommended to leave the minimum distance along the ruler. When turning, the lawn mower will drive slightly on the track, while mowing the entire grass along the track.
  • On gravel paths, the lawn mower can get stuck, so choose the average distance.
  • On the paths with hard coating, the lawn mower can move calmly.
  • For safety reasons, it is necessary to install a barrier with a height of at least 15 cm around the pools or ponds.

These distances should be used as a guideline. After the trial period of the mowing, you can move the restrictive wire so as to improve the results of the lawn mower.


If there are sites on the lawn for which the lawn mower should not call, for example, flower beds and alpine slides, create islands using a restrictive wire.


Passages are used to connect two parts of the working area, between which the lawn mower can move. In the presence of a guide wire in the aisle, the minimum distance between limiting wires is 60 cm. If the working area has a passage where there is no guide wire, the minimum distance between the limiting wires is 2 m.

Secondary sections

The secondary section is formed if the working area consists of two sections not connected by the passage. The working area with a charger is considered the main site.

In order to find out the answers to this question, I asked the company for a give me a mower for a test of some robot. A week later, I had a huge box with a fairly expensive Stihl RMI 422 p robot in my country house.

Most gazonocosyl robots cost from 35 to 150 thousand. Almost all of them work according to one principle. A restrictive wire is laid on the site (it and the pegs for attaching to the ground are included in the kit of the robot), with the help of which the territory is determined where the robot works. The beginning and end of the wires are connected to the base (by the way, until the wire is connected and the base is not included in the network, the robot generally refuses to start). Those places, inside the territory of the mowing, where the robot cannot be climbed (flower beds, pools, and so on) are enclosed by a wire, and in places where two fragments are folded together and go there and back, the robot passes freely, without feeling restrictions.

Most robots have only two sensors: a collision sensor (this can be either a movable bumper or an internal sensor) and a rain sensor. Very expensive robots have an ultrasonic obstacle sensor, for some robots, such a sensor is sold in the form of an option.

Almost all robots move randomly: the robot reaches the wire and turns to an arbitrary corner. As far as I know, only Bosch robots build a map of the site, but judging by the reviews, the result of their meaningful movement is often even worse than a chaotic in other robots.

Any robot coser uses the charger, while he knows how to find it (he gets to the wire and rides along the wire until he meets the base), charge and continue the mowing after charging.

Typically, robots of mowers have two large drive wheels (20-22 cm) and one or two videos (8-9 cm). Stihl has two videos.

Many manufacturers to the detriment of ability and quality of mowing make the robot as safe as possible. so that he could not injure the hand of the child lying on the grass or cut off the tail to the cat. To do this, he underestimates up to 2.5 cm clearance in the front of the robot and knives are protected as much as possible with combs and metal elements. All this leads to the stuck of the robot and the fact that the robot is clogged with grass. It seems to me a situation when a small child lies on the grass, and a stupid cat substitutes the tail of a mower almost incredible. Ordinary robots have a clearance of 5 cm and as soon as the robot meets something thicker, he immediately turns around.

The robot knows how to mow on schedule. In the simplest robots, the schedule is set automatically: the area of ​​the site is set, on the basis of which it is calculated how many days a week (from 2 to 5) and how many hours (from 2 to 10) mow. You can only configure the start time. In more advanced robots, the schedule can be adjusted in more detail. Of course, the robot can be launched manually (or yet you stop it, or for the indicated number of hours depending on the model).

Many robots have a setting of mowing zones. The point of the restrictive cable is programmed, where the new zone begins. After that, you can launch mowing of certain zones or sequence of zones (to find the desired zone, the robot just goes along the wire remembered, and then begins to mow).

There are robots equipped with Wi-Fi. They set up and control from the application on the smartphone (you can start and stop mowing, send the robot to the base, set the schedule). Perhaps the main plus of Wi-Fi at the robot. Work and problems notifications. If the robot gets stuck (and it necessarily gets stuck), a push notification will come to the phone.

Let’s get back to the Stihl robot and answers to my questions.

This robot does not have Wi-Fi, all control through a large LCD screen. There is a setting of zones, many additional “chips” like finding a wire break.

The main impression: Robot “rushing like a tank”. He turned out to be completely in my way of my bumps, pits and bumps. For the first time he got stuck when he ran into the pit so that one wheel hung over it, and the second hung in the air. This is where the whole stupidity of the robot manifested itself: he simply twisted endlessly with wheels and a mowing disk, thinking what was mowing. I was surprised that the programmers did not guess that if the robot “rides to the wire” for too long, then something went wrong. A couple of times the robot stuck, finding himself in the corner of thick grass. He began to “fray” left-right, but he could not drive, and then he couldn’t get away. But in general, the robot travels along an unprepared area and rarely gets stuck. All places of potential stuck can be corrected.

My second question was about the density of the grass that the robot might mow. Mows dense wild grass “with a bang”, but it is important that the grass is not high, in it it can get stuck. In general, in the instructions for any robot it is written that before using it, the lawn must be mowed with an ordinary mower. Ideal for the robot, when it cuts a little bit every time, preventing the grass from growing. For the lawn itself, this is also good, because the robot does not collect grass, but leaves it on the lawn (when the trims are small, they will quickly overwhelm, turning into fertilizer, and large can be visible and they will rot longer).

The main question: is it really possible to use the robot only once a week, removing it when there is no one in the country. Answer: Not always. As I wrote above, it is desirable that the grass in front of the mowing be low (perfectly. up to 5 cm). In May and early June, the grass for a week grows 10 centimeters by 10. The robot will be able to mow such grass, but inevitably sometimes it will get stuck.

How I chose a gazono-core robot.

The area of ​​my site is about 10 acres. I do not grow strawberries and tomatoes, in the country my family and I prefer to rest. Accordingly, the whole thing is sown with a good Danish lawn mixture. And everything in it is great except that at least once a week the grass needs to be mowed. At first, this is cool, but last year I was frankly tired and decided to automate the process by buying a gazono-bass robot. The choice fell on Bosch Indego. advertising, brand fame and urgent recommendations of the seller in the store have done their job. It was assumed that this miracle of technology mows the lawn very smoothly, literally a strip in a strip, and not chaotic, plus creates a map of the garden and carefully cuts the grass around the perimeter. Unfortunately, in fact, everything turned out to be not so rosy. Firstly, in addition to grass, fruit trees also grow on the site-about 3-4 meters from each other. They, like the whole territory as a whole, I carefully “circled” the perimeter restriction with a wire. The instructions said that after the first 2-3 cycles, the robot will remember everything and will begin to do its work according to the verified algorithm. However, instead, the mower went around the perimeter and near the trees, then crawled a meter to the side and stopping forever. It was strongly impossible to endure this, and I tried to remove the wire laid around the trees. After that, Indego earned more or less normally, but at some point he stopped again. This happened with a frequency of 2-3 days, I had to regularly reset on factory installations. While the grass is not very high, the mower cut down quite high quality and evenly. But as soon as the grass grew up, for some reason the robot began to carefully fold the mowed segments 2-4 centimeters long right on top of the lawn. And you have to collect this dried hay with a hand. The advertising story with a haircut overlapping, of course, was also not so ideal: as the settings do not turn, and the strip of not cut grass constantly remains here and there. Now a couple of words about the quality and service of Bosch. Five days after the start of use, the Indego broke the wheel, and I had to take it to the service to the new apparatus only after 35 days, and it was also faulty: the wire of the perimeter was not determined. First lay 300 meters wires, and then immediately get it back from the ground. then another pleasure. In a word, it turned out that I bought a mower in May, and actually began to use only in August. Along the way, I had to manually finalize the design of the wheels, since they were constantly falling off, and spare knives in online stores with the day with fire cannot be found. As a result, the miracle of equipment went back to the manufacturer, since at least the money was returned quickly. I approached the choice of replacement more responsibly. I independently a bunch of articles and reviews on the Internet. And for 2 months now, Robomow has been crawling around my site. At first I wanted to buy a RS622 model, but it was not available, I had to take RS612. I was very afraid to make a mistake again, but in the end I did not regret it: if you compare both the devices of the forehead in the forehead, then this is like “Zaporozhets” and “Mercedes”. Robomow. a device of a completely different level. The first thing that surprised is the menu. At first it seemed that there was somehow not enough settings, but in reality they are enough. The mowing schedule is adjusted very simply and quickly: you need to choose the time when the robot will not work, and mark the days. Do this enough once, and not every three days immediately after resetting the installations, as was the case with Indego. In addition, the mowing has a very successful modular design. If the hands grow from the desired place, then individual parts can be easily replaced independently. Agree, there is not always time, desire and opportunity to carry 20 kilograms of iron and plastic to the service. The rain sensor is also built in RS612: when a decent amount of water gets on the housing, the robot stops itself. And that’s right, because if you mow in the rain, then the grass is stuffed between the knives. To pick it out from there. pleasure below average. In the Bosch model, such a function is not provided. Well, most importantly: the RS612 lawn mows is much more accurate, although sometimes small “islands” still remain. It is treated by an increase in the intensity of mowing. The 1000 m 2 I subsequently increased to 1350 m 2 indicated at the beginning of the recall. probably the case, In the specifications, the recommended area of ​​the lawn is 1200 m 2. But Robomow separately bakes 4 zones of different shapes, and Bosch developers obviously believe that everyone has one perfectly even rectangular or square lawn without a single bump. A robot can be manually controlled from a smartphone on iOS or Android. In truth, mowing is not at all interesting, but it is convenient if necessary to move RS612 from one place to another. Without certain shortcomings, of course, of course. The assembly quality, although good, after a week of use, crept in one of the engines. I decided to lubricate it myself. The modular design allowed to easily remove the motor with your own hand in less than a minute. There is a lubricant in the gearbox, but it is not enough, and almost everything is smeared around the edges, and the gears are empty. It would be good if the manufacturer had paid attention to this. nevertheless, not everyone is ready to climb into the bowels of the robot. The second point is that the declared Robomowo function of the line of the lawn works only along the paths or the edge of the lawn, if you need to shave the grass along the fence or at home, there will be a strip of 3-5 centimeters. Bosch without this function, leaves 11-15 cm.

But in the end, if you compare Bosch with Robomow, then at an almost equal price in dollars, Robomow clearly wins.

What are the sensors for

In the housing of the gazono-shower robot there are sensors with various functions responsible for:

  • tracking the site during processing;
  • interaction with a restrictive cord;
  • recognition of the already passed site;
  • determination of an obstacle that has a height of more than 10 cm.;
