Tool for chamfering plastic pipes

Fixing pipes

When installing home plumbing pipes are most often attached to the wall with special plastic clips. They are simple latches, which are attached to the wall with an ordinary screw.

Obviously, in the case of wooden walls, installation on a frame made of galvanized profiles or bars of the tools you will need only a screwdriver and an electric screwdriver.

In the case of concrete or brick walls, the set of tools to fix the plumbing will be bigger:

  • Peorator with a drill or an impact drill with a pobedit drill of the appropriate diameter;
  • Hammer (plastic or wooden dowels should be hammered into the wall, so?);
  • A sharp knife (the dowel left outside the wall should be carefully cut);
  • Again, a screwdriver or an electric screwdriver.

Scope of application of the various tools

Polypropylene pipe products are widely used in many areas, but the greatest demand and importance they have in the installation of water lines. The popularity of polypropylene pipes is primarily due to the fact that they are easy and convenient to work, excellent technological characteristics, durability and low cost. At the same time, often professional plumbing installation is much more expensive than the cost of materials.

To avoid such costs, you can take up this work by your own efforts. This is not complicated: having a minimum of skills and familiarity with the instructions for assembly, it can almost everyone. All that is needed for this: a little desire and effort, the availability of necessary materials and, of course, tools for the installation of polypropylene pipes.

In working with polypropylene pipes, you need to perform various actions, so the tools with which you have to work, too, are different.

Chamferers

In the process of creating carving, trimming pipes and some other types of processing of rounded metal workpieces, burrs may form on their edges, which create certain inconveniences, in particular. prevent the process of docking products. And, in addition, such irregularities can cause injury with sharp edges. For this reason they must be removed using specific tools such as a metal pipe chamfering tool or an edger.

Deburring the outer surface and ends

Stripping is required for polypropylene pipes with aluminum reinforcing film, which can be located between the polypropylene layers in the walls of the product or outside. Depending on this, you may need a tool for external scraping of such pipes or a facing tool (read more: “Do you need scraping for polypropylene pipes and how to make it if necessary”).

You can not replace these tools with home equipment, but any of these tools for polypropylene pipes can be easily found on the market. Their price is very inexpensive, because there is no complicated mechanics or a significant amount of expensive steel grades.

Stripping methods and technology

Before installing reinforced pipes, it is necessary to choose a tool for stripping. It can be both manual and mechanical devices.

Varieties and application of galvanized profile pipes

Tools for the job

Stripping of propylene pipes is performed either with the help of hand tools or by means of mechanical nozzles. The choice is determined by the skills of the performer, experience and the scale of work.

When the work is performed for the first time, it will be more correct to stop at hand tools. This gives more control and accuracy when deburring. Mechanical tools are used more often for more extensive scope of work.

To obtain an even, finished cut, for stripping it is recommended to choose stainless steel tools, made by the method of crimping.

Double-sided tools are used for manual scraping, which allows to perform scraping of pipes of different diameters. Detachable handles are provided for convenient operation.

  • A pencil for marking the level of the layer to be removed;
  • Scissors or a cutter. They are used to cut off a section of pipe;
  • Counterbores. The gauge helps restore the geometry of the pipe, smooths the cut, and the countersink chamfers and removes unnecessary burrs;
  • A conductor or pipe bender. If it is necessary to make angles of turn according to the project, with the help of such mechanisms, the pipe is bent under a certain radius;
  • Bending sleeves. To remove the metal jacket, a coupling is put on the pipe. And when you turn it, the blades in the middle remove the outer layer of aluminum. Removable handles make the process quick and neat;
  • Trimmer. The blades are on the inside face of the tool. The perfect cut is obtained after several turns of the facer over the pipe. Its blades remove the middle layer inside the pipe. The process looks like this: a facing tool is put on, several turns are made, and you can immediately proceed with soldering. It is possible to use the pipe facing tool for ordinary plastic pipe without a reinforcing layer;
  • Shaver. Can be of different caliber, depending on the diameter of the pipe. Processing is done with a drill on which a nozzle is mounted instead of a bit. In doing so the speed of the drill should be carefully controlled. The nozzles remove both the inner and outer layer of foil. Choose the nozzle according to the type of reinforcement on the pipe. After using the shaver it is ready for the next step.

What is the maximum pressure a polypropylene pipe can withstand??

Scraping methods

Stripping methods differ depending on the method of reinforcement, and, accordingly, on the location of the reinforced layer: outside or inside. Each scraping method is performed with different tools.

Deburring the outer layer

If the pipe is reinforced by applying an external reinforcing layer, the connection with fittings is possible only when this external layer is melted and then stripped.

If stripping is neglected, the molten aluminum foil will not be able to bond with the polypropylene, and the connection will be unreliable. The main idea of stripping is to clean the upper layer, to a depth that is necessary for good adhesion to the polypropylene. The work is carried out with the help of couplings.

Working process of facing and chamfering with the Mangust machine

Using additional equipment, it is possible to drill out of the pipe grate pipes of different diameters and make a cutout of fittings.

Manual

Manual chamfering machine is portable, rather light and compact unit. This equipment is used for chamfering holes, effectively processes straight and radius edges. Suitable for sheet metal and pipe work.

Equipment is versatile, can work with different materials, perform a variety of tasks. Due to its productivity is actively used on construction sites, for the implementation of small-scale works, excellent for domestic use.

Manual equipment has the following advantages:

  • ease of operation, the specialist without prior training can qualitatively perform the processing of edges, it is easy to change the angle and width of the bevel removed;
  • small dimensions provide mobility;
  • less energy is used for the work than in case of stationary analogues;
  • Manual chamfering machines for pipes and sheet metal consume much less power than stationary models;
  • it does not require additional space for the location of the machine, the welder does not need to worry about preparing a place to install the unit;
  • Wide range of adjustments, i.e.е. the work can be performed at different angles;
  • ergonomic: special handles ensure comfort and convenience for the operator, and the absence of vibration is guaranteed by the rubber coating.

Manual chamfering machines also have some disadvantages:

  • Designed for work with small-sized workpieces;
  • Lower productivity, in comparison with stationary analogues;
  • The necessity of additional processing of pipes before using them, the sheets can be welded at once;
  • workpiece clamping required.

Why do you need reinforcement?

Internally reinforced pipe is a three-layer product. Products consist of two PP and one reinforcing layer. Due to reinforcing, the strength of rolled products does not deteriorate when the temperature changes drastically.

Types of polypropylene products

Reinforced products also have a lower coefficient of thermal expansion. This characteristic of products with aluminum reinforcement is 6% lower compared to pipe products made of polypropylene alone.

Thanks to an additional reinforcing layer in the pipeline engineering systems created from it are able to move hot water. In this case, there is no rupture of networks made of reinforced pipe products. The flexibility of the reinforcing material enables it to compensate for temperature changes.

Reinforcement of polypropylene pipes is performed when using:

Manufacturers make pipe products reinforced with solid or peorized foil. In the second option, polypropylene penetrates through the aluminum mesh.

This allows the inner and outer polymer layer to connect securely. Therefore such pipes have greater reliability with increasing temperature loads.
