What Can Be Done From A Motor From A Screwdriver

We make a mini-drill and 5 other useful electric DIY
Mini drill, collet chuck, drill and accessories for them with your own hands: how to assemble at home, 5 instructions, useful recommendations.

DIY collet chuck

The mini drill collet (or chuck) is an adapter used for clamping drills, which is attached to the output shaft of the motor. The mini-chuck allows you to use drills with a diameter of up to 3 mm. The smallest homemade drill can work with drills with a diameter of 0.7 mm.

Therefore, the choice of clamp should be approached with all responsibility. And if you can’t find a high-quality device, you can easily make it. In this case, you will not need to use a lathe. In order to make a clamp, you only need an M8 screw and a closed M8 nut.

Making a collet for a mini drill:

  1. Drill a hole with a diameter of 2 mm in the screw head;
  2. We take a hacksaw saw and apply two axial saws to the screw body;
  3. In a closed nut, drill a hole with a diameter of 2 mm strictly in the middle;
  4. Using a larger drill, expand the hole in the closed nut to 3.5 mm;
  5. We make a cone out of the nut by connecting it to a conventional drill and grinding it with sandpaper.

The collet is ready! Now you can insert a drill of a suitable size into the bolt and screw on the nut. In order to use the drill conveniently, you can make such a collet for each micro drill. A special drill stand will help to do high-quality work.

How to make a dynamo from an old printer motor

A dynamo is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. The dynamo is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. That is, an electric current arises in a closed circuit of the device when the flux of the magnetic induction vector penetrating the circuit changes over time.

In everyday life, a dynamo can be used to charge audio and equipment, a smartphone and other low-power gadgets (for example, fitness bracelets, tablets, a toy robot, etc.). In addition, the device is perfect for powering bicycle headlights, LED strips, flashlights and other devices powered by single-phase networks.

To assemble a homemade product you will need:

  • Motor (electric motor) from an inkjet printer;
  • Belt and gear from the same device;
  • Handle with a comfortable, non-slip grip;
  • Two small wooden bases;
  • Four 10,000 uF capacitors;
  • Diode;
  • Metal corners and fasteners;
  • Wire and solder.

what can be done from a motor from a screwdriver

Before making a dynamo machine, you should complete its drawing on paper

Making a dynamo is easy enough. To do this, connect the capacitors in parallel, bring the phase from the capacitors through the diode to the electric motor, and connect the capacitor zero through a jumper to the zero of the electric motor. The wires for connecting electrical appliances should be removed from the capacitor connected to the diode, observing the polarity. After that, you should put the entire structure on the base, fastening the electric motor to the second wooden plank so that the pulley sticks out of it. On the side of the pulley, place the gear with the handle, and tighten them with a belt.

DIY drill for small jobs

The drill has long ceased to be an exclusively professional dental instrument. Today, a drill with a flexible shaft is actively used for small decorative work, grinding, polishing, cutting various products.

At the same time, it should be borne in mind that a sufficiently powerful motor will be needed for high-quality homemade work. So, for powering the drills, an 18V motor from a screwdriver is perfect. The easiest way is to make an engraver from an old blender.

To make a drill you will need:

  1. Detach the upper part of the blender from the working;
  2. Using a clerical knife, remove the rubber pad on the button, and use a screwdriver to unscrew the bolts located under it;
  3. Using a screwdriver, from the side of the power cable, pry the top cover of the case, and carefully remove it;
  4. Remove the circuit connected to the power cable from the blender body;
  5. Remove the plastic part located above the rotator from the body;
  6. Remove the plastic tip from the motor shaft;
  7. Measure the diameter of the shaft with a vernier caliper (if it is not there, then a stationery ruler is also suitable for this purpose);
  8. Clean the motor housing from oil and degrease its surface with an alcohol wipe;
  9. Slide a collet of the appropriate size onto the shaft;
  10. Replace the power buttons with a push mechanism that controls both turning on and off the device;
  11. Assemble the blender.

Parts for making a drill can be found at the flea market

The hand drill is ready! Power to such an instrument will be carried out through a power cable with a plug. You can also power the instrument with batteries, but then the batteries will have to be changed or recharged from time to time.

There is a way out. Reworking the screwdriver in the network

Yes, it loses one of the benefits of a cordless tool. Mobility. But for work in rooms with access to a 220 volt network, this is an excellent way out. Over, you give new life to a broken instrument.

There are two concepts of how to make a network out of a cordless screwdriver:

External power supply

The idea is not as absurd as it might seem. Even a large and heavy buck rectifier can just stand near the outlet.

You are equally tied to the power supply, and to the stuck mains plug. And the low-voltage cord can be made of any length.

Important! Ohm’s law says. With the same power, decreasing the voltage. We increase the current! Accordingly, the 12-19 volt supply cord should have a larger cross section than 220 volts.

Using a power supply from a personal computer

On the radio market, you can purchase an old power supply from a personal computer for a small cost. We need a variant of the AT format, which had to be turned off by pressing the key after exiting the operating system.

Experienced users remember such system blocks. The advantage of such a power supply is also that it indicates an honest power. If it says 300W, it means you can safely remove 15-16 amperes from the 12-volt output (again referring to Ohm’s law). This is enough to power an average screwdriver.

Such blocks have a power button in the kit. Another advantage is the presence of a cooling fan and an advanced overload protection system.

If you are hiding the power supply in a beautiful case, do not forget to leave a hole for ventilation.

The connection is very simple. Black wire (-), yellow wire (12V).

Limitations. A screwdriver with a supply voltage higher than 14 volts will not work.

Using a car battery charger

The principle is the same as using a computer power supply. It is necessary to purchase an old charger for the starter batteries. The modern fashion for compact impulse chargers has left analog linear devices with manual control of voltage and charge current behind. Therefore, such a device can be purchased on the automotive market for a symbolic cost.

Charger MAX INTER

It’s good if the voltage can be adjusted smoothly. In this case, your makeshift power supply will fit any screwdriver.

Converting it to a power tool is reduced to connecting the input of the electric motor to the power terminals of the charger.

Battery case power supply

Mobility remains, you are limited only by the length of the network cable. The only problem is how to squeeze a sufficiently powerful transformer into a small case.

We recall Ohm’s law again, and understand that a powerful 220 volt electric motor can be compact.

Ac adapter for screwdriver in battery housing

If your tool is not too powerful, you can place the power supply in a handle or case from damaged batteries.
