What Lubricant To Use For Punch Reducer

Any tool based on complex mechanisms requires timely maintenance. One of these tools includes a hammer drill. This is due to the fact that its use is accompanied by significant loads on the mechanism of reciprocating movements. Also, the work is accompanied by a large amount of dust, which with a high concentration in the air can adversely affect the operation of the tool.

What Lubricant To Use For Punch Reducer

Many users believe that if the lubricant for the perforator gearbox is present on the mechanism, then you can work with the tool for an unlimited amount of time. But in fact, the right choice of lubricant and its timely replacement will help the puncher maintain the working condition of the entire warranty period. Next, we will analyze which lubricant to use, when and how to change it..

Types of greases for gearbox

Lubricant is a viscous consistency substance necessary to reduce the coefficient of friction between the individual moving parts of the mechanisms. At the same time, it is impossible to completely remove friction, therefore, in order to avoid wear in the perforator gearbox, its timely replacement is required. During friction, small particles of metal are separated from the tool and in the form of metal dust fall into the oil. Because of this, the oil loses its properties. At the first stage, the viscosity of the substance changes, and at the second, it itself causes additional tool wear. Viscosity is the most important parameter of the oil, which is worth paying attention to when choosing.

Two types of lubricants can be distinguished:

Liquid lubricant is similar to motor oil. It can only be used in rotary hammers having a gearbox with a sealed housing. In order for the oil to be held inside, the tool shafts are protected by sealing glands.

Liquid grease is replaced through grease fittings, special holes with a tight-fitting lid. It is highly effective, as it is able to evenly cover the entire surface of gears and other elements.

Also, liquid oil helps to cool the gearbox, and in case of overheating of the tool, the pressure in the gearbox housing increases significantly. This can lead to oil loss through the seals.

Grease is more common. The grease has a thick, plastic consistency and excellent adhesion. It differs in the method of application; to replace it, the gearbox must be disassembled. This allows full-time control of the required amount of lubricant. At room temperature, it is quite thick and adheres well to metal elements. The advantage of grease is that its use does not require complete tightness, just using good gaskets and bushings.

During operation, the temperature of the lubricant increases and it, when melted, evenly covers the surface of the mechanisms. After finishing work, it cools down and is held on gears.

When choosing a manufacturer, you should adhere to one rule. The oil manufacturer must comply with the manufacturer of the hammer drill. Almost every manufacturer develops oil based on the requirements and characteristics of their own tools. Typically, the technical documentation of the tool indicates the type of lubricant recommended for use. The documentation also contains a list of power tool models for which it is suitable. Do not underestimate these recommendations, since even the slightest deviation of technical characteristics can adversely affect the performance of the tool.

Among the domestic lubricants can be distinguished Vityaz. It is produced in the Moscow region and is sold in a tube weighing 100 g. Convenient to use, the narrow nose of the tube is great for applying oil to the openings of the gearboxes.

How to lubricate the gearbox

After choosing the type and manufacturer of the oil, you can start the routine. To work with liquid high-temperature grease, most modern tools are equipped with special grease fittings. For oil infusion, a hole with a lid is installed, the location of which is indicated in the documentation.

The whole process of replacing liquid oil can be divided into stages:

  1. Removing the cap. The removal scheme is indicated in the instructions.
  2. Discharge of mining residues. If the old oil is too dirty, rinse the perforator gear with a special solution.
  3. Blowing the mechanism with compressed air.
  4. Filling with new grease. The amount of oil must comply with the recommendations specified in the instructions, and not exceed the level of the reference mark.
  5. Cover the filler hole with a protective cap.

It is worth noting that if the punch is relatively new, and it is covered by a guarantee from the manufacturer, then the use of oil recommended by the manufacturer is mandatory.

When there is no filler hole and you need to use a grease with a breakdown of the mechanism, it is worth contacting a service center.

Self-changing oil with gearbox disassembly should be carried out according to the instructions and special tools. Before work, you need to prepare:

  • Locksmith tools (screwdrivers, pliers and hex keys);
  • Selected type of oil;
  • Petrol;
  • Clean pieces of cloth.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Review the instructions provided by the punch manufacturer to understand the design of the punch.
  2. Cleaning the housing from contamination, dust from the remnants of old oil.
  3. Cartridge analysis:
  • First you need to remove the rubber and retainer rings with a screwdriver;
  • The casing is removed;
  • The clamping ring is removed;
  • Spring and balls are removed.
  1. Next, the mode switch is removed. Such manipulation should be carried out strictly according to the instructions, since each model is performed differently.
  2. Using the key and a screwdriver, the back of the case is disassembled. This is necessary to disconnect the brush from the collector.
  3. The front of the case is removed.
  4. The gearbox is removed.
  5. Taking a piece of fabric, you need to moisten it with gasoline and wipe the removed elements and the inside of the case.
  6. Allow the parts to dry and then wipe them with a clean rag.
  7. It is necessary to completely lubricate the gears and other elements of the gearbox so that the grease covers the entire gearbox with a thick layer.
  8. Punch assembly.

Features of selection

The choice of grease for a hammer drill does not require much effort and knowledge, the main thing is to pay attention and study the attached instructions to understand how to lubricate the gearbox. It indicates the appropriate type of lubricant, usually branded, recommended viscosity and water resistance.

Among the profile manufacturers stand out: Makita, AEG, Bosch, Lubcon. It is also worth highlighting manufacturers of lubricants for various purposes, such as Shell, Castrol and Ravenol. They produce high-quality products, the proper use of which will help to achieve maximum performance of the punch.

Ultra grease deserves special attention. They have an average consistency between liquid greases. This allows you to use it in both sealed and non-sealed gearboxes.

In some cases, when the documentation does not contain relevant information, other types of oils can be used. Often, a substance for diesel engines is used to replace the lubricant for the gearbox. Some craftsmen prefer graphite grease. In some cases, for an amateur tool, you can use Litol 24. But for professional punchers, it will not work, as it leads to an additional increase in temperature and excessive braking, and also requires more frequent replacement to maintain properties.

Choosing how to lubricate the gearbox, you need to focus on your own tool and on what purpose and how often it is used.
