How to plow with a tiller.

We will tell you how to prepare the tiller for plowing, how to properly attach the plow to the tiller and how to adjust the plow, and at the end of the material we will tell you how to directly plow the soil on your garden plot.

Step one. Preparing the tiller for plowing

Before plowing with a tiller, preparatory work must be done. What is this job? In principle, there is nothing difficult in preparing the tiller for plowing the soil.

1. Roll out the tiller onto a flat area of your plot.

2. Prepare lugs and replacement axles.

3. Replace the tiller’s transport wheels with lugs by installing them on replaceable (extended) axles.

Now that the tiller is ready for plowing and the lugs are in place, move on to the second step.

Step two. Installing a mounted plow on a tiller

Before adjusting the plow, of course, you first need to install the plow itself on the tiller, here, just like in the first step, there are no difficulties in the work performed.

1. We attach the plow to the hitch, while fixing the fastening nuts so that the plow can be adjusted, that is, do not tighten the nuts completely.

2. Use two pins to fix the plow hitch to the tiller’s attachment eyelet.

That’s it, the plow is ready for adjustment and now you can proceed to the third step (photo 1).

Step three. Tiller plow adjustment

Unlike the first two steps, the third step for adjusting the plow is a little more difficult and requires high-quality work, since with an incorrectly adjusted plow, plowing the land takes a lot of time and effort, and, accordingly, the quality of plowing leaves much to be desired.

The first step is to put the tiller on specially prepared stands (photo 2). We put the tiller on the stands with grousers and under the support leg of the tiller we substitute the stand so that the tiller does not tilt towards the plow, that is, it is necessary to balance the tiller standing on the stands.

The height of the supports for the lugs depends on how deep you will plow the soil, if plowing for the winter, then the height of the supports can be 20-25 cm, if you plow in spring, then the height of the supports can be 10-20 cm.

3. When you have installed the tiller, it is necessary to adjust the inclination of the plow body using the adjusting bolts, while the plow heel should be parallel to the ground surface (photo 3).

Tiller or shovel. What to choose?

In the spring, all summer residents rush to the garden. It is necessary to cultivate the land and prepare it for planting. Digging the earth is an occupation that requires time and effort. There are two main options here:

Economical. It’s digging by hand. All you need is a shovel and a rake. In this case, you yourself will take out the sod and pick the weeds by hand.

Convenient. Digging with a tiller. With the help of attachments (cutters, lugs, plow), you can process the soil and prepare it for planting.

The principle of the cultivator:

To plow the garden with a cultivator, cutters are put on its front part. A coulter is installed on the back of the tiller. It can be used to adjust the plowing depth.
Also, the plowing depth will greatly depend on how fast you move with the cultivator across the field.

When removing sod, especially if it is a large cutter, it is better to pre-sharpen it on emery. With sharpened cutters, it will be much easier to tear apart the sod.

In addition to standard plowing cutters, an optional weeding kit can be purchased for each cultivator. For hilling potatoes on the cultivator are installed: forward. Lugs, and back. An adjustable hiller, which will allow you to adjust the width of the furrow.

If you decide to purchase a cultivator, you need to remember the following:

The weight of the cultivator should not exceed 50-70 kilograms so that you can lift it yourself;

The reverse speed on the cultivator is really very convenient;

It is better to choose a cultivator with a capacity of at least 4 horsepower. This is the best option.

Differences in characteristics and options for motor cultivators can be found in the catalog:

Tiller plow adjustment

Adjusting the tiller plow

In order to adjust the plow, it is recommended to put the tiller on the supports (A), for example, place two short bars with a section of 150×150 mm under the lugs. Such a height of the bars will allow us to adjust the plow to a plowing depth of about 15-18 cm.

For the convenience of adjusting the plow, you can put a board or plywood (A) under it, as seen in the photo. This will help us to more accurately adjust the angle of inclination of the plow from the heel (B) to the nose of the plow. The angle of inclination of the plow is adjusted with the adjusting bolt (B) on the hitch as follows:

1. By turning the adjusting bolt clockwise, we raise the plow heel up (yellow arrow), which increases the plowing depth.

2. Turning the adjusting bolt counterclockwise. Lower the plow heel down (white arrow), while the plowing depth decreases.

The distance from the ground surface to the heel of the plow should not exceed 3-5 cm. Otherwise, the plow will “dig” into the ground. If the angle of inclination of the plow is not set correctly, then the quality of plowing of the area will decrease, while the load on the tiller engine and on the human hands increases and, as a result, fatigue sets in very quickly. After the adjustment has been made using spanners, tighten the plow and hitch mountings (A).

We check with a tape measure the gap between the tiller gearbox and the control surface, which we used as a board or plywood. The gap at point (A) should be from 15 to 20 cm.

Preparing the tiller for plowing

Before plowing the land, it is necessary to prepare the tiller. What do I need to do? Let’s break it down in order.

It is advisable to deliver the tiller to the plowing site without a plow and lugs. Usually, a dismantled tiller is transported in a car to a summer cottage. If you have a land plot next to your house, then you can prepare the tiller for plowing in any chosen place with a flat surface.

When the tiller is delivered to the site of preparation for work, it is necessary to replace the transport wheels (B) with special lugs. In order to make it easier to remove the transport wheels, a stand (A) can be installed under the rear trailer hitch.

Instead of the hubs on which the tiller‘s transport wheels are installed, it is necessary to install the extended hubs (A). This is to increase the distance between the lugs in order to maintain the stability of the tiller during plowing.

Preparing the tiller for work

After the hubs are installed, proceed to the installation of the lugs (A). Be sure to pay attention to the correctness of their installation. The herringbone lug tread (B) should have the direction shown in the photo. The tread taper is the forward direction.

When both lugs are installed, you can remove the support (A) and proceed to the next step of work. Preparing the plow for work.

Plowing a plot with a tiller

Before starting to plow the area, it is necessary to carry out a test plowing and check the plow adjustment:

A) checking the depth of the furrow and the quality of the dump;

B) checking the progress of the plow in the furrow;

C) checking the load on the tiller;

D) checking the load on the arms (smoothness of the tiller during plowing).

Only when all these factors are checked, and you evaluate them positively, you can start full-fledged plowing of the site. If at least one of the listed factors has a negative assessment, then in this case it is necessary to re-adjust the plow.

You need to plow with a tiller correctly!

Control plowing is as follows. Install the tiller on the edge of the plot where the control furrow will be made.

We turn on the first gear, smoothly press the clutch lever, while the wheel of the tiller should be parallel to the ground. There is no need to press on the steering wheel and push the tiller during plowing, he plows beautifully himself. The main thing is to keep the steering wheel exactly relative to the ground surface so that the plow does not dig into the ground and, conversely, does not lift up.

After passing the first furrow, it is necessary to control the plowing depth, using a tape measure or ruler, measuring the distance from the bottom of the furrow to the ridge. If the plowing depth corresponds to the parameters that were set when adjusting the plow (15–18cm), then you can start plowing your land.

With the correct adjustment of the plow, you get a high-quality work result, as shown in the photo. After plowing, it is necessary to clean the plow and tiller from dust and dirt, after which you need to remove the plow from the tiller and mothball it until the next moment when you need it again.

Important! When plowing the land, especially during hot times of the day, pause when working with the tiller to allow the engine to cool down and not overheat and, as a result, fail.

Installation of wheels

Before the start of the summer season, you will need to adjust the tiller for plowing. Before plowing, rubber wheels must be replaced with metal lug wheels. This must be done so that the unit does not slip during excavation work. The choice of wheels should be taken seriously, otherwise it will not work to plow the soil compacted after winter.

Firstly, their diameter must be at least 55 cm, and secondly, the width of the wheel is selected within 20 cm, otherwise, if the wheels are too narrow, the tiller will lose stability and will swing in different directions. If the diameter is too small, the gearbox will catch on the ground and may become unusable, and it is known to be the “heart” of the tiller.

For wheels, a monolithic rim is suitable so that the ground does not clog in the lugs. Working with wheels is done by placing the tiller on special stands. The height of the hill directly depends on the depth of future plowing: for working with ordinary soil. 20 cm, with frozen soil. 25 cm.

Tiller launch

Every time before starting the engine, the oil level and the amount of fuel are checked. A lack of both can damage the engine. The diesel engine is fueled with seasonal diesel fuel (for warm or cold seasons). Before starting, check the operation of the clutch, steering wheel. Movements in systems occur with a certain effort.

To start the engine, you need to free the tubes from air with an electric starter, which will subsequently be filled with diesel fuel. During manual start, it is necessary to give access to fuel, to produce gas and a certain amount of rocking by the starter. The decompressor returns to its original state and the engine starts.

For two-stroke engines, gasoline is used (the proportions of dilution with oil are indicated in the instructions). To start the tiller, open the gas tank, direct the handle to “start”, move the starter several times without turning on the ignition. And only then turn on the ignition to start the engine. Further, the handle should be at the “Work” mark.

How to choose the right plow for the Neva Tiller?

The plow is a specially shaped share and a heel. It is with such a design that it is very convenient and easy to plow stale solid soil. This attachment is made of durable steel, as it performs quite complex work with increased stress.

Plows are of different types:

  1. Rotary. Has several active blades. The soil is cultivated only in one direction, so you have to constantly return to the beginning;
  2. Negotiable. It has the appearance of a feather, which makes the process of plowing very hard and stale soil very simple and quick. In this case, at the end of the furrow, you just need to turn around and continue working;
  3. Single-hull. It has only one share and is designed to work on light types of soil.

There is another type. This is Zykov’s plow. It has a special design:

  • Support wheel;
  • Double-sided body with a share and a blade. This allows not only crushing the earth, but also turning it over;
  • A field board rests against the furrow. This makes the structure more stable;
  • Attached to the beam with a stand;
  • Swivel mechanism with attachment of plow bodies.

Before starting work, you need to install the plow and set it up.

Tiller plow Neva

Each farmer has in his arsenal such a technique as a plow. And every farmer knows how hard it is to work with such a tool. Tillers have appeared on the modern market that can greatly facilitate work on the ground. Tiller Neva is one of the most popular and reliable units in our country.

The plow for the tiller Neva is an attachment with which you can quickly and effortlessly process the soil before winter, as well as in spring before planting plants.

How to install and adjust the tiller plow?

In this section we will show you how to set up a plow on the Neva tiller. The plow and hitch are the most important parts, without which you cannot plow a field with a tiller. They need to be properly assembled and adjusted.

Each model of a tiller has its own hitch. Sometimes preliminary work is required to secure it. You can find out how to attach the hitch from the instructions for the tiller. The original hitch guarantees a reliable connection between the machine and the attachment.

Plow adjustment also requires certain knowledge and takes place in several stages:

  • Adjustment of deepening into the ground;
  • Adjustment of the slope of the field board in relation to the nose of the share;
  • Plow blade tilt adjustment.

First step of plow adjustment and furrow cutting

Plow assembly and plow attachment to the tiller

The plow and hitch are the two main components you need to complete your plowing. To do this, the plow and hitch must be assembled in one piece in order to mount the plow on the tiller and adjust it for plowing.

The plow is attached to the tiller with a hitch. Since the couplings have different modifications and each model has its own differences, in some cases it will be necessary to carry out preliminary work on installing the coupling on the plow. When the hitch is installed on the plow, we proceed to the attachment of the plow to the tiller.

Note:

The attachment of the plow to the tiller through a universal hitch ensures a reliable attachment of the plow to the towbar of the tiller, and also allows a number of precise adjustments of the plow for plowing the soil.
