A metal spring is mounted on the plunger shaft, which, resting with one side against the oil pump housing, constantly pushes the plunger shaft towards the adjusting screw.

The profiled surface of the annular ledge is in contact with the cylindrical body of the adjusting screw. At the point of their contact, an interface is formed, which, when the plunger shaft rotates, sets a value that limits the movement of the plunger along its axis and affects the process of capturing and pumping oil by the plunger.

The oil pump will operate at maximum efficiency provided that the adjusting screw eccentric does not come into contact with the center lug on the end of the plunger shaft.

As the adjusting screw rotates, the eccentric will approach the protrusion and push the plunger shaft away from itself.

In this case, the amount of oil supplied by the pump for lubrication will depend on the position of the eccentric relative to the protrusion on the plunger shaft, and in this example, the amount of oil supplied by the pump is controlled.

If there is smoke on the cutting attachment or the chain stops, we can talk about a lot of heating. The main reason is lack of lubrication. Other reasons could be:

  • blunt chain;
  • strong tension.

The oil supply by the pump has a special regulation. Chainsaw chain lubrication occurs constantly during the operation of the machine. Therefore chainsaw chains have a long service life.

During operation, the chain requires a constant supply of lubricant. Its continuous supply must be ensured. This is required by the design of the device. During the operation of the chainsaw, the oil leaves the groove of the tire, instantly absorbed by the sawdust.

For this reason, the chain is lubricated automatically. Some chainsaw chains are equipped with a system that regulates the exact amount of lubricant supplied. The cheapest devices are equipped with a hand pump, which is powered by a drive located on the handle.

A special oil has been specially developed for good lubrication of the chain. After work, it quickly decomposes, so there is no violation of the ecological system. You can also use oils of the brand:

Transmission grease is absolutely not suitable for work. In winter, it freezes, as a result, the oil system clogs up, you have to completely clean it.

In winter, chain lubrication requires special attention. Branded oil “M-20” thickens in severe frost and resembles petroleum jelly. Therefore, to work in winter, it is necessary to lubricate chainsaws with special winter oil, which has a more liquid consistency.

It is not always possible to purchase such a lubricant. To solve the problem, diesel fuel is mixed with oil, the viscosity is lowered. However, if the previously filled oil remains in the crankcase, then the addition of diluted oil will not have a positive effect, the system channels will remain clogged. There is only one way out. heating the chainsaw in a warm room.

If the chain oil does not solidify too much, you can try to melt it by running the saw at low idle.

Chain tension

Chain tension adjustment is carried out:

  • when installing the chain on a chainsaw after sharpening;
  • when the tension is released during the operation of the chainsaw;
  • when replacing a worn out or broken chain with a new one.

The chain is tensioned with a special screw. Most often, for convenience, it is placed on the side surface. The tension force is adjusted empirically. The normal position of the chain is determined by the bar, while the lower part of the chain cannot have a gap, since it should not sag.

The degree of tension is determined manually. with a hand wearing a protective glove, the chain is scrolled. With the normal arrangement of the chain in the tire, the movement of the cutting tool should be carried out freely, without much effort.

Note: when adjusting the chain tension, the brake must be in a free state. unlocked.

Advice: when using the saw in winter conditions, the tension must be carried out on a heated saw. the metal elements expand from the temperature rise and the chain can sag. At the end of the work, the tension should be loosened. during cooling, an excessive load may occur from the contraction of the metal during cooling.
