  • pull back the ignition cable;
  • screw a stopper to fix it on the motor shaft of the centrifugal mechanism;
  • use a multi-purpose wrench to clamp the clutch in the counterclockwise direction;
  • Put the remaining parts you removed back in their original positions.

The second method on how to unscrew the sprocket on a chainsaw with a collapsible clutch drum looks simpler than the previous one. The procedure will be similar, but it will not be the whole sprocket that has to be disassembled and reinstalled, but only a part of it, the ring gear.

Do not forget that installing a new chain on a chainsaw bar is one of the reasons to re-equip the saw with a new sprocket. Otherwise the chain will stretch prematurely or break while you’re working. Less clutch drum wear is obtained by alternating the use of several chains and periodic maintenance of its bearing.
