Grinder for parquet with their own hands

Sanding (scraping) parquet and hardwood floors with their own hands. the choice of equipment

The floor covering bears a considerable mechanical load in the process of exploitation of the house, which is the cause of rapid wear and tear of the floor, and as a consequence, causes the need for repair work or replacement.

One of the popular materials for flooring is wood. Installed in the form of parquet, solid or parquet board, it is characterized by strength and durability. But wood also deteriorates with time and needs to be repaired. Wooden parquet or parquet flooring can be made attractive again with the help of scraping and sanding. The essence of the procedure is to remove the worn-out top layer of wood using hand or machine tools.

What is the difference between scraping and sanding parquet / floor?

Planing or scraping. the process of leveling the surface of the floor, by removing the worn surface layer of wood cutting tools.

Sanding. a similar process, but abrasives are used.

Today scraping and sanding of the floor can be considered synonyms, and wide spread spreading of machine scraping, which works on the base of abrasive materials.

Squeegee and polishing parquet is performed by different equipment for different purposes.

  • the scope of work: for scraping a small area use hand tools, with a large area of work. grinders;
  • The condition of the flooring. In a neglected case, performing work manually will take a long time, the machine will cope faster;
  • Cost: manual scraping and sanding parquet is more economical option than machine sanding. The latter is more expensive to purchase and maintain;
  • time. Manual work is by definition more time-consuming than machine work;
  • performer. Professional teams use only machines, hardwood flooring sanding with their own hands is done manually or by renting a sanding machine.

Floor scraping. when it is needed?

It is not difficult to understand that your parquet needs scraping, because in most cases the floor is heavily trampled. The hardest thing to understand in such a seemingly simple matter. when the hardwood flooring is meaningless?

So, there is no point in hardwood flooring if:

For the feasibility of parquet flooring scraping, you can conduct a small test and cover the meter area of the floor with a thick plastic film. It goes without saying that the edges of the film should be firmly pressed to the parquet with a board or something else.

Leaving the film in this position for about a day, then determine whether there is condensation under it. If the condensate is still there, then the further plane-sanding of parquet at home can be considered useless.

Floor scraping parquet angle grinder

As mentioned above, hardwood floors are sanded by a special machine. In this case, the base of the floor is evenly cleaned from the layer of old and damaged material. Nevertheless, many craftsmen at home successfully practice parquet squeegee angle grinder. using an ordinary angle grinder (angle grinder).

What can we say about it? Angle grinder should be adapted to a fairly large grinding wheel, in which case all the work get to perform much faster. Secondly, it is equally important that the angle grinder for parquet cycling in the home conditions would have an adjustable speed.

Well, thirdly, care should be taken to remove dust, which will certainly arise during the parquet cycling. In special machines for scraping, the dust is removed immediately into the dust collector. Using the same for scraping parquet usual angle grinder in the room where the work takes place, simply there will be nothing to breathe.

Repair or replace?

During the scraping process the surface layer of wood is removed. Depending on the thickness of the planks, your parquet can withstand 5. 8 cycles of scraping. But only high-quality, dry and even flooring can be processed. Before you schedule any work, make sure the parquet in the room:

  • not cracked (no gaps between the slats);
  • not swollen;
  • is not seriously potholed or chipped;
  • not damaged by the woodworm bug;
  • Not touched by rot;
  • The thickness of the upper slat to the tongue and groove in the most passable places is at least 5 mm (check the awl inserted in the seam between the slats).

If there are any problems listed above, scraping is not possible and the parquet in the room will have to either replace or fix the defective areas.

Types of floor sanding machines

As sanding is a preliminary stage of grinding the floor surface, the task of any sanding machine is to remove a layer of parquet or wood no thicker than 11,5 mm. Therefore, in any machine design there are two working units. for separation of a surface layer from the base of the floor, and for subsequent removal of swarf into a special collector.

The tool for the first phase of sanding is a sanding pad, which is fixed on an elastic substrate (its role is usually played by a rubber base). Chips are removed with a paddle-type fan.

Sanders for wooden floors or parquet are produced in two varieties. belt and drum. In the first case, the removal of the surface layer is made by endless sanding belt, in the second this operation is performed by the sanding sandpaper, pre-cut to the size of the surface of the drum. Machines are electrically driven from 220 V domestic mains (for small and medium-sized machines), or from three-phase network of 380 V (for professional machines).

  • Electric motor.
  • V-belt drive.
  • Operator shaft in antifriction bearings.
  • Mechanical transmission to the fan shaft.
  • Snail, to which the swarf container (dust proof bag) is connected.
  • Clamping mechanism and adjustment of axle spacing between motor shaft and machine shaft.
  • Connection hose.
  • Control panel.
  • Casing with wheels for moving the machine.

Version of the drive mechanism depends on the type of the machine. If the belt is the driving tool, the power and torque are transmitted by rollers. Clamping of the belt to the rollers. eccentric, frictional. In drum-type machines, the nip force is adjusted by turning the platform on which the electric motor is mounted. V-belt pulleys are tensioned and loosened in the same way.

Work sequence

Depending on the current condition of the floor surface need to choose the type of sanding sandpaper or tape. Usually manufacturers equip techniques with several types of tapes. But in many cases, the price of a new machine is quite high, and preference is given to the rental option. All the more so, that the constant performance of sanding works is characteristic only for special repair teams or workshops.

Selection of the optimal grit of the sanding tool can be performed, using the following data:

  • For cosmetic work on parquet (for local leveling, for example) a water-resistant paper sanding abrasive with a grain size of P60 is sufficient.
  • To remove the surface layer of paint or varnish, as well as to remove the wood thickness up to 2 mm suitable sandpaper with grain size P80.
  • For surface finishing or removing thin layers, it is preferable to use abrasives with a grain size of P100 or P120.
  • To prepare the parquet for painting it is advisable to use sandpaper grain P150 or P180.

The attachment of the skin in the sanding machines is different, depending on the type of machine. In drum-type machines the skin is prepared to the size of the drum, then, using tension rollers placed in a special technological groove, the skin is pressed to the surface of the drum. In belt cyclers, the installation and change of sanding belts of the desired width is faster. just put the belt on the transport rollers and press against them.

Next, a spigot to the top of the cast aluminum housing is put on the chip collector and connected to the hose, which captures the waste coming from under the drum or belt. the nozzles at both ends of the hose are used for this (they are identical, so the hose can be installed as desired).

Adjustment of the pressing force is done manually, according to the specific parameters of the test pull: if the removal efficiency of the surface layer is low, the tension of the belts is increased by turning the motor-driven platform. If the machine is rented, it is useful to remember: at interaxial distance between pulleys up to 280 mm belt deflection should be about 6 mm when pressed with thumb in the middle, and for distances over 280 mm. 1 mm extra for every 50 mm.

Once you have set the optimal tension, you can start skidding. There is a perception that drum type machines work the floor more evenly than belt type machines, and do not leave streaks. However, this trouble is easily solved. it is enough to perform each subsequent pass of the tape machine with a small margin.

Restoration of wood or parquet floors

Stage Preparation

Well, now you know everything about hardwood flooring levelling. Approach this activity very seriously, because it is not a matter of one day. Now familiarizing yourself with the whole process in detail, you can apply your knowledge in the working process. The main thing is not to forget about the possible nuances that may arise in the process and in time to eliminate them.

If possible, test the dye for color accuracy in the unseen area.

On the scratched area, lightly paint the floor with paint over one area of scratches. If this proves successful, move on to the rest of the scratches.

As a natural alternative to lighter wood floors, try rubbing raw walnut flour into the scratches. Depending on the color of your floor, a solution of equal parts olive oil and vinegar may also be effective.

If you need to sand, start with a fine sandpaper. Rub it lightly over the scratches, then wipe with a sticky cloth.

As loosening is a preliminary stage of grinding the surface of the floor, the task of any looper. remove a layer of parquet or wood thickness not more than 1 1,5 mm. That’s why any machine design has two working units. to separate the surface layer from the floor substrate, and to then remove the shavings into a special collector.

The tool for the first stage of the cycle is a sanding pad, which is fixed on a resilient backing (usually a rubber base). The swarf is removed with a vane-type blower.

Sanders for hardwood floors or parquet are made in two varieties. belt sanders and drum sanders. In the first case, the surface layer is removed by endless grinding belt, in the second case this operation is performed by grinding sandpaper, pre-cut to the size of the surface of the drum.

  • Electric motor.
  • V-belt gear.
  • Working shaft in roller bearings.
  • Mechanical transmission to the fan shaft.
  • A particle conveyor connected to the swarf (bag made of dust-permeable material).
  • Clamping mechanism and interaxial distance adjustment between motor shaft and machine shaft.
  • Connecting hose.
  • Control panel.
  • A housing with wheels for moving the machine.

The drive mechanism is determined by the machine type. If the executive tool is a belt, then the transmission of force and torque is performed with the help of rollers. Belt clamping to the rollers is eccentric, frictional. In drum type machines the adjustment of the contact pressure is performed by turning the platform on which the electric motor is installed. Pulleys of V-belt drive are tensioned and loosened in the same way.

The well-deserved popularity among specialists enjoy smoothing machines tape type models SO-206M and SO-206.1М of Belorussian production. SO-206М belongs to the units of professional type, because the machine runs on a network of 380 V, for other technical characteristics models are identical:

  • The maximum productivity of cycling, m 2 / h. up to 50.
  • Drive power, W. 220.
  • Operating mode. continuous.
  • Weight, kg. 75.

Model SO-206M is equipped with a phase converter, which is interlocked with the circuit breaker of the electric motor. Described line of sanding machines in comparison with the previously produced model SO-206 features increased drive life, as the electric motor is installed horizontally, which improves its blowing and reduces the load on the rotor bearings. The accessibility of the machine has been improved for sanding work in hard-to-reach areas.

Of the drum-type machines, one can have a closer look at the units produced by German company Hummel. The equipment can perform not only smoothing, but also sanding, it can easily be adapted to any type of coating. not only for parquet and wooden floors, but also for mosaic coatings. A significant limitation is the high

Natural materials have been used as flooring since ancient times. Earlier it was done involuntarily, because there were no other products available.

But over time, people have come to the conclusion that the warmest, most beautiful and long-lasting floor can only be made of wood.

One of the oldest natural floor coverings is parquet and, although it requires careful attitude and regular care, a decent substitute for him has not yet invented.

To make it stay flawless for many years you need to periodically conduct restoration activities, and the first tool for them. a machine for parquet scraping. What is it and what features does it have?? How to choose a necessary model?

Previously, the processing of materials made of wood was carried out manually. For this purpose a planer was used. But to give the parquet floor ideal flatness and smoothness required good tools and skills to perform such work.

Machine for scraping simplified the process of parquet processing. The first model was created in Germany in 1964, but in the domestic market its analogues appeared only in 1980s.

When the Ukrainian company “Novatek” together with the Belarusian MISOM developed an analogue of the German model. They have completely replaced manual labor, performing the same functions as an ordinary planer, but much faster.

Nowadays such a technique surprises no one. Manufacturers offer dozens of different modifications. Do not get confused in the brands and models from the most well-known manufacturers will help the following information.

Scraping a wooden floor: sequence of work

Depending on the current condition of the surface of the floor, you need to choose the type of sanding sandpaper or tape. Usually manufacturers complete their machinery with several types of belts. But in many cases, the price of a new unit is quite high, and preference is given to the option of renting. All the more so, that the constant performance of sanding works is typical only for special repair crews or workshops.

Our company “Parket-Promaks” can help you to make a parquet floor scraping in Saint-Petersburg.

Selection of the optimal grit of the grinding tool can be performed using the following data:

  • For cosmetic works with parquet (for local leveling, for example) water-resistant paper sanding with grit P60 is enough.
  • For removal of the surface layer of paint or varnish, as well as to remove wood with a thickness up to 2 mm suitable sandpaper with grain size P80.
  • For surface finishing or thin coat removal, it is preferable to use abrasives with a grain size of P100 or P120.
  • For preparing parquet for painting it is advisable to use sandpaper grain P150 or P180.

The skin is attached to the sanding machine in different ways, depending on the type of machine. In drum-type machines, the skin is prepared according to the size of the drum, and then, using tension rollers placed in a special technological groove, the skin is pressed to the surface of the drum.

Then a swarf accumulator is put on the spigot to the upper part of the cast aluminum housing and connected to the hose, which catches the waste coming from under the drum or belt. This is done by using nozzles on both ends of the hose (they are identical, so you can install the hose any way you want).

Adjust the clamping force manually, according to the specific parameters of the test removal: if the efficiency of removing the surface layer is low, the tension of the belts is increased by turning the platform with an electric motor. If the machine is rented, it is useful to remember: when the distance between the pulleys is up to 280 mm, the deflection of the belt when pressing it with the thumb in the middle should be about 6 mm, and for distances over 280 mm. 1 mm extra for every 50 mm.

After setting the optimum tension, you can start sanding. There is a common opinion that drum type machines treat the floor more evenly than belt type machines, leaving no streaks. However, this nuisance is easily remedied. it is enough to perform each next pass of the band saw with a small margin.

What kind of machine to use for grinding parquet?

Choosing a machine need to consider these parameters:

  • the quality of grinding;
  • the width of the sanding belt: 75-100 mm;
  • the weight of the machine;
  • power: 1-2,5 kW;
  • control. The presence of the speed switch, RCD, limiters will allow you to work without the risk of damaging the wooden floor, parquet or walls;
  • Availability of a dust collector;
  • complexity of design (in terms of the possibility of replacing the belt).

Rules of operation and safety

Regardless of the type of sander, it is necessary to observe the rules of work with it:

  • performing work only during the day, t.к. the process of scraping/sanding is quite noisy (applies to work in the apartment, for private homes is not relevant);
  • full protection: to protect against noise use headphones, and to protect against dust use goggles and respirator;
  • You should not overload the equipment in the process of sanding;
  • Constant monitoring of the abrasive belt and the filling of the dust collector.

How to choose a lacquer for parquet

Varnishes for parquet are divided by degree of gloss and durability.

Mattishness depends on the quantity of a passive filler in the lacquer composition. Changing the proportions, glossy, semi-matt and matt varnishes can be produced. But this filler is deposited on the day, based on that before the application of varnish stir carefully.

The durability of lacquer is chosen based on the functionality of the room in which the parquet is laid. For the home, lacquers with low or medium resistance are suitable, for more crowded places are chosen with a higher abrasion resistance.

  • Polymeric varnishes. They are also produced on the basis of solvents, acrylic or urethane. To their advantages they belong high elasticity, heat stability, excellent adhesive properties and ultraviolet resistance. They can handle high loads perfectly, are not afraid of household chemicals and high humidity. The disadvantage is that the resin varnish glues the strips. And in case of water penetration during the lacquering process, it starts foaming.
  • Water-soluble lacquers. They are a fairly new product. It hardens after the evaporation of water, forming a film. They are practically harmless and have the same durability as other types of lacquers. They are suitable only for the rooms with constant positive temperature. The acrylic-polyurethane varnish is more wear resistant, but the acrylic varnish needs to be renewed from time to time.
  • Varnishes based on oil resins. They are urethane-alkyd and oil-based lacquers, made of linseed or wood oil, which allows them to penetrate deeply into the wood. They do not glue parquet strips, and the coating comes out slippery. But they are poisonous and take a long time to dry.
  • Acid-curing varnishes. They are made on the basis of a varnish and a hardener. It has the highest abrasion resistance, undemanding to the temperature and humidity. The disadvantages are a strong odor and strong bonding of slats.

Consumables

For grinding parquet requires different amounts of materials, depending on the volume and labor intensity of the process.

  • Abrasive paper of various types 0, 0, 0, 00 and For example, for a floor area of 20 sq. m. The most popular brands are Resident, Forbo, Flow, LOBA etc. One sample is needed for 10 sq. m, which is consumed during one filling. Standard paper sizes for sanders. length 2000 mm at a width of 200 mm.
  • Varnish or oil. For 10 sq. м. Consumption of paint and varnish material will be about 5 kg. The most popular brands are Resident, Forbo, Flow, LOBA and others.
  • Paint or varnish coating equipment (brushes and rollers).
  • Rubber spatulas.
  • Putty for sealing cracks (about 5 kg). Putty is chosen to match the color of the wood or can be made from the wood dust that was created after scraping and a liquid putty base.

Signs of wear and tear on your parquet

After prolonged use the flooring comes in disrepair and requires cosmetic repairs. In some cases, the restoration of the coating is performed before the expiration of the warranty period of the floor.

grinder, parquet, their, hands

The reasons may be the following: the use of soft wood for the manufacture of the floor, which is mounted in rooms with high traffic, poor quality of installation work performed without regard to the requirements of technology, lack of proper care for the parquet.

To find out the degree of wear, free the floor from all kinds of coatings, clean the dirt. Parquet is restored by sanding in such cases:

    If only minor scratches and cracks, furniture and pet claw marks are visible.

It is useless to perform the work in case the following defects are detected:

    If the lumber is loosened and on a large area between the slats there were gaps of more than 5 mm.

Choosing a sanding device for your parquet flooring

Modern electrical devices reduce the time for surface treatment, but without hand tools for grinding parquet flooring level the floor can not. For comfortable work in the arsenal of the master should be several different in purpose and device working tools.

Sanding machines for parquet processing

The number of varieties of grinding devices is enormous, all of them are used in certain cases.

Drum type products are designed for roughing, they can not create a smooth surface. The working tool has a cylindrical shape, the abrasive tape is fixed on it. The rigid design tightly presses the skin to the floor, which allows you to remove in one pass from 1 to 1.5 mm, depending on the diameter of the grain. Many dust is generated during the procedure, so the devices are equipped with dust collectors.

Machines for grinding the parquet tape type is used for preliminary grinding. leveling and stripping. The surface is processed by a ring-glued abrasive belt, which moves along two rollers like a conveyor. Machine performance depends on the rotational speed of the working tool, from 150 to 500 rpm./min. Power consumption. 600-700 W. Recommended ribbon width for private households is 75 mm.

Disc devices are used at the final stage of repair. In such devices, the plates are aligned by one or more flat abrasive wheels. When rotating discs remove defects left after the pretreatment and smooth the surface qualitatively. For processing corners apply angular machines for leveling areas under radiators and pipes. special devices, which, because of the specific shape are called the “boot. In inconspicuous places you can sand your parquet with an angle grinder, which is attached to the disc with sandpaper.

Vibrating products are universal and can be used for rough and fine sanding. In these machines on the floor act flat platform measuring 100×200 mm with fixed abrasive plate. The platform makes reciprocating movements and levels the flooring. For the finish treatment the vibration amplitude of the base is 1-2 mm, for rough treatment. 5-6 mm. Power consumption. 150-300 watts.

Eccentric machines combine features of vibrating and circular machines. During operation the tool vibrates and simultaneously rotates, which ensures high performance and good quality of processing. The product is used for rough and finish sanding. Modes are adjusted by changing the circle diameter, vibration, and rotation speed.

When choosing a machine for sanding parquet, pay attention to the following characteristics:

    Household devices have movable tools 7,5-10 cm wide and are designed for surface treatment up to 10 m 2. In large rooms it is difficult to achieve good smoothness, it is necessary to use professional equipment with a sanding belt width of 20-25 cm. The disadvantage of these products is a large weight (over 100 kg) and dimensions.

Manual scraper for sanding parquet

The tool is designed for manual removal of old coatings and rough sanding in hard-to-reach places. The device is able to replace the products of the drum type, if the problem area is small in size. The scraper is not suitable for large areas of work because of its high labor content.

The tool for grinding parquet looks like an iron planer with a hook-shaped blade. The cutting edge is sharpened on the wedge from the outside. It is recommended to use factory-made devices, they have very sharp blades of regular shape. The most convenient product has a wide handle. Ideal size of the blade. 5 cm, with smaller dimensions more movements are required.

Abrasive belt for grinding parquet

The width of the belts can be from 60 to 250 mm. The maximum size is used in high-powered professional machines. In household appliances, the most popular sizes are 75 and 100 mm. Very narrow blades (from 6 mm) are used in hard-to-reach places. Also the hardness of the hacksaw and the properties of the wood species from which they are made influence the choice of sandpaper.

Various densities of sandpaper are used for the job. It is not permissible to change the order of sanding sanders, because the.к. the next number removes deeper scratches from the previous one.

The medium of use of sanding sanders with different grain size:

    Abrasive 6 is designed to remove the coating created by olive or varnish.

Special tapes with an arrow on them can be fed into drum-type machines. Only insert the sanding pad in the indicated direction.

Equipment for polishing parquet: drum type machines, belt type machines

Despite the labor-intensive installation, wooden parquet is still one of the most popular types of decorative coatings. In addition to its good functional properties, it has a unique aesthetic component. The possibility of forming an individual pattern and natural material coverage are the main factors of choice. To process the surface it is necessary to use special equipment, among which the most important is the grinder.

Improving the installed parquet is carried out in stages, and the most important is considered the initial. grinding. The procedure, which is necessary both in the finishing of new, and in the restoration of the old flooring.

Equipment can be of different types, and its choice on the one hand determines the condition of the coating, and on the other hand. the task to be implemented.

Scraping the floor can not only construction companies, but also private workshops or craftsmen. This creates competition and allows you to choose the master. The in this case are different, which allows you to choose. But still not the cost should not be the deciding factor when choosing a master who will carry out scraping the floor. It is necessary to start from the skill, quality of work, recommendations and professional equipment that is used. When choosing, evaluate such sides of the specialist:

  • the cost of the work, an assessment of the condition of the floor;
  • the tools to be used;
  • The technology to be used;
  • the list of works to be performed.

The price requested by the craftsman will depend on many factors:

grinder, parquet, their, hands
  • the condition and wear of the flooring:
  • the area of the room where it is necessary to perform floor scraping;
  • of services in the process of restoration.

The machine for grinding parquet with their own hands

Once the scraping tool is assembled, the machine is equipped, the room is cleared of furniture, and the floor is cleared of debris, you can begin scraping. Carry out this process can be carried out with the help of two types of machines:

The first type is most suitable for rooms with a large area. Unfortunately, this equipment has its disadvantages:

Even a professional is difficult to conduct a scraping with such a tool at a high level. Some craftsmen believe that drum tools are intended only for the first stage of scraping. removing the protective layer from the floor surface.

As for the disc technique, it is a relatively new development, which does not have the defects of the previous range of equipment. The result polishing parquet with such a machine will be perfectly smooth and even floor. After floor treatment with disc equipment there is practically no need to putty and refinish the floor.

When performing floor scraping with special equipment, the following stages of work are carried out:

  • rough screeding. old varnish coating is removed and the unevenness is corrected;
  • After the repeated processing of the current correction of defects on the surface, which remained after the technique;
  • Filler cracks, chips and minor irregularities are made;
  • Applying a protective layer, experts recommend applying several layers.

How to choose a tool for hardwood floors

Even if you have special equipment, you will not be able to avoid manual work. Difficult-to-reach places, unevenness, narrow spaces cannot be reached by a scraper. Let’s get acquainted with the list of tools, without which it will not be possible to make a floor scraping:

  • Parquet. sanding machine with the function of scraping. the technique is expensive, but it can be rented;
  • Manual angle machine for processing inaccessible places;
  • Hand scraper. a tool for scraping in places with difficult access;
  • A roll of sandpaper with a coarse-grained surface;
  • Putty on wood to eliminate gaps in the floor surface;
  • varnish for covering parquet.

After the room is ready, you can start scraping the floor.

Scraping machine for parquet

You can also do the same about the sander. It is necessary when carrying out floor restoration works with your own hands, but it is also not cost-effective to buy it for several times. Rental fee for sanding equipment is higher by one and a half to two times. Or another option is to buy a sander and then rent it out.

Machine for hardwood flooring loosening and sanding equipment necessary for restoration work on the parquet.

Wood scraping on your own

Before you conduct scraping work, you must carefully prepare the surface. The floor is carefully freed from dust, small particles of debris. After that you can perform sanding with a special equipment. During such work should work in soft socks. Shoes on their feet is not allowed, because it can scratch the surface and spoil the result of the work. Even slippers, as practice shows, are not suitable footwear for sanding the floor surface. During the sanding process, the doors must be tightly closed, because a lot of dust is released in the course of the work. Will form a small sharp dust, which can cause respiratory irritation, so you need to protect yourself with a respirator. The important condition when working with the tool is not to wear loose-fitting clothing with hanging edges, because the machine can capture these parts of the clothing.

Technology and tools, as well as tips on how to properly sand your parquet with photo and video instructions

You’ll be surprised how good your old parquet will look when you remove those countless layers of varnish that have accumulated over the years. The surface will become lighter, stains and scratches will disappear.

To achieve this effect, you will have to carry out the procedures of scraping and sanding. They are also used when installing a new parquet in the final phase of the.

What is the difference between sanding and sanding, what and how are they done??

The difference between sanding and sanding

Today many people confuse two terms. scraping and sanding. replacing one word with another. However, although the principle of work is the same here, the methods are still different from each other.

Parquet sanding

This is today’s parquet strips are made absolutely identical, and the error between their thicknesses can only be a tenth of a millimeter. And a few decades ago the difference was more noticeable, up to several millimeters. And that’s why after laying parquet we had to sand it.

The process of scraping consists in leveling boards by removing the top layer from them. By the way many of you have seen this process in a famous Gaidai comedy: loudly humming machine with shavings flying out from under it. Modern floorboards are thinner than before, and a sander can’t work on them.

Today this method is usually used to remove old paint layers from the floorboards or to clean old-style parquet. The photo shows just such a case. Here is a hardwood flooring your own hands, from under layers of paint began to see the clean slats.

Flooring sanding. Photos of the surface before and after treatment

Sanding parquet

As mentioned above, modern parquet is not kiklyuyutsya, it applies only to the grinding, to a greater or lesser depth. This depends on whether you are treating a freshly laid floor covering or want to refresh an old one. Machines for the processing of wooden floors are now available in various modifications and with different sets of functions.

The essence of grinding is the same: in the removal of the top layer of wood from the floor covering. However, the thickness of the layer to be removed can vary. It can be quite thick. when the sander can remove a layer of old paint, and quite thin. to finish polishing parquet.

Sanding and scraping parquet

Number and types of stages of parquet processing will vary depending on whether it is a new or an old coating. When choosing the type of equipment to be determined by the same criteria.

Equipment for scraping and sanding

Grinding and scraping parquet with their own hands often done with the following machines: drum, tape, disk and eccentric. Drum machines are universal, and can be used for both sanding and scraping. The design of such machines is quite simple and at the expense of this reliable. Many models are equipped with bags for collecting sawdust and dust.

Disc models can perform a fine, pre-finish sanding, after which you can proceed to the lacquering of the parquet. Mainly used for hard-to-reach floor areas, under radiators, pipes, in corners, etc. д.

How to ottsiklivat parquet with their own hands: it is best to use a drum or disk machine

Belt sander is suitable for different levels of surface cleaning, from light sanding to removal of layers of varnish or paint. Depending on the model, the machine can be equipped with belt centering and several belt speed settings.

Eccentric. Suitable for both rough treatment of wood, and for polishing paint coatings. Here it all depends on the type of nozzle, the speed of its rotation and vibration, as well as the degree of hand pressure on the machine itself.

Sanding your parquet. Here is a video on how to work with a sanding machine.

Preparatory work

Before scraping and / or sanding inspect your parquet for any damage: cracks, deformation, or mobility bars. Small cracks and chips we patch with a special mastic. If the wood is lost a lot. cut a board of suitable size and put it in, fixing it with glue.

Remove the sliding parts, sand and glue them back on. Those that are badly damaged. replace them. We try to match new planks for replacement so that they match the color of the old ones as much as possible.

Attention: material for filling chips and cracks can be taken from defective parquet strips that were left after replacement with new ones. So the “patches” will not match the color of the rest of the surface.

First we do the repair of parquet. Scraping can only be started afterwards

How to scrape your parquet with your hands

To scrape your parquet we need a drum sander or a disk sander. The drum should be chosen if you need to remove a very large layer of paint coatings. The disc machine is suitable for fine scraping, if you just need to remove, say, a couple of coats of varnish. It should also be used instead of a drum sander if you have a modern parquet.

The machine movement pattern can be of any kind. For example, it is convenient to start from a corner and move obliquely. This option is illustrated in the picture below. The whole surface of the floor is treated that way. places that are not suitable for sanding with a drum sander, we refine with a belt sander or an eccentric sander, with coarse sandpaper.

Important: If scraping is carried out without taking out the furniture, you need to take measures to protect it. This is done with the help of masking tape, with which you paste all the modules and their fronts at a height of about 10-15 cm.
