How To Remove A Gear From A Screwdriver Motor

How to remove a gear from a screwdriver motor

If you want to change the motor on your screwdriver, watch this, there is nothing difficult about replacing the motor. The most important thing is to find a donor. In terms of size, all screwdriver motors are the same, they differ only in operating voltage and gears. It will not work to remove the gear from the shaft just like that, for example by knocking out, and if it does, then with damage to the gear. I made the simplest puller at home from the available materials in 10 minutes, it quietly squeezes out such gears.

Puller so that you can pull the gear off the screwdriver motor.
I spied the idea on YouTube, but there a man made from a very small nut.
It took in time, somewhere an hour, an hour and a half, I did it from what was at hand, the tap was found M5, a couple of files, triangular, flat and square, rasping bastardness, a vice and, most importantly, hands))))

I have not tested it yet, I decided to make a puller after I could not disassemble the engine from the Hitachi screwdriver to the screw

I wrote it for what, on Ali and in shops, such a puller costs from 400 to 1500 rubles, you can make it from what you have, even if you buy everything, then the nut costs 30 rubles in leroy, taps are 100 rubles maximum, everyone probably has a file , hands and time.
The slot was made by an angle grinder, with a cut-off wheel, with the same circle and expanded.

I disassembled the engine, and the smell went off, dust began to get between the rotor and stator.

Update: made fitting

Dismantled several (4) screwdrivers from different companies, all have the same Chinese motors. Coincidence?!

No, 550 were more likely all of him, there is still a little more and a little less

All were 12 volts, the older terminals were slightly thicker. Now they probably already put neodymium magnets on expensive equipment

Motors for the cheap and expensive segment are standardized in terms of docking dimensions, expensive ones can have their own bodyless, brushless, etc., in cheap ones everything is the same and depends only on the manufacturer who collects, and the motor can be assembled at the same factory, which is for the brand, which is for China, for example, Bosch put a standard motor in the blue series for 12v, which is suitable for both Makita and Metabo, they are all compatible. The situation is the same with buttons. Akums, there is generally such a spread, all manufacturers put the cheapest banks, just brands put Samsung, false, etc., the Chinese are what is left))))

I also repaired a few, the same motors are on shura from 9 to 14 volts.

Where to find or any explanatory diagram that will help to independently remove the gear from the engine on the “Makita” screwdriver?

It is a pity that the brand of this screwdriver is not indicated, but I think that basically the line of this brand should be more or less the same. Since the sprocket on the engine is pressed in quite strongly, it can only be removed with the help of a special puller. Since pullers are still not available for all users of such wonderful equipment as Makita, I strongly advise you to contact the service center, where they will very quickly remove you and, if necessary, replace this part (most likely with high-quality, and not with that junk that is sold on the market). How the cartridge works

The assembly consists of a hollow cylinder equipped with a special ring and a regulating sleeve. Inside it there are cams that fix the working nozzles, it is put on the tool shaft, using a cone or thread located in the middle of the part. At times, a situation arises when you need to remove a part in order to disassemble it or for replacement. Unfortunately, in none operating instructions for the screwdriver, it is not said how to change it.

Can I use a screwdriver as a drill

Drilling with a screwdriver is possible only if this mode is provided by the manufacturer. Then drilling is safe. Read the instructions carefully. On the coupling, this is the last position or the pictogram showing the drill.

Drilling mode designation

In screwdrivers with a drilling function, a keyless or key chuck is installed. A magnetic or snap-in chuck will not be able to hold the drill and ensure safe operation. Proceed as follows to replace the equipment:

    In a double sleeve keyless chuck, hold the rear sleeve and turn the front sleeve counterclockwise.

Replacing a drill in a double sleeve chuck

If there is only one clutch, then turn it.

Replacing the drill with a water-oil chuck

  • The cams will open. Insert drill.
  • Turn sleeve counterclockwise to clamp the drill in the jaws.
  • The key chuck has three holes. Insert the key into them in turn and turn until free rotation. Key teeth must mesh with chuck teeth.
  • Replacing the drill in the key chuck

  • Rotate chuck counterclockwise to disperse jaws. Remove the old drill and insert the new.
  • Screw in the cartridge first. Then tighten each hole with a wrench.
  • Tool set

    Usually, such a tool is sold in special cases, where each part has its own skill place.

    The drill-driver itself consists of the main tool of a non-removable battery, which is recharged from the household electronic network.

    A special charger is used for charging, which is equipped with a set.

    How to change / insert / pull out the nozzle (bit), drill

    After the desired nozzle (bit) for the drill has been selected, taking into account the size of the screw head and the configuration of the recesses (straight, cross), it must be installed in the very center between the open cams, and fixed in the chuck by turning the sleeve clockwise. If a key type chuck is selected, then the key is installed in the recess on the chuck, and then rotated hourly until the attachment is secured. The end of the bit fits into the groove in the screw. Before starting the device, check the accuracy of setting the direction of rotation, the direction should match the screw.

    Increasing the pressure on the start button regulates the optimum rotation speed. When the screw is fully immersed, the force limiting mechanic is activated and then the drill stops.

    Types of chuck for screwdriver, how to remove and disassemble the chuck

    The screwdriver today is probably one of the most popular types of tools. And now we hold it in our hands. One of its components is a cartridge-device for fixing working bits. In the event of a breakdown of this part, it becomes necessary to remove it from the screwdriver for repair or replacement.

    Chuck repair

    The chucks in different models of screwdrivers may differ slightly from each other. They can be attached to the shaft in three ways:

    1. Morse taper.
    2. Threaded connection.
    3. Threaded connection with fixing screw.

    To determine how the cartridge is fastened, you need to read the inscription on its sleeve:

    • Marking “1-6 B10” means Morse taper. Nozzles with shank diameters from 1 to 6 millimeters are used. The coding “B10” indicates the size of the cone. Take a hammer and knock out the cartridge with blows to the body;
    • Inscriptions like “1.0-11 M12x1.2” or “2-13 mm ½-20 UNF” mean metric and inch threads.

    If the cartridge turns out to be threaded, proceed as follows:

    1. Open the chuck jaws.
    2. If there is a screw inside, unscrew it clockwise (the screw has a left-hand thread).
    3. Take a 10mm hex L key.
    4. Insert the short edge into the chuck and clamp tightly in the jaws.
    5. At low speeds, start and immediately turn off the screwdriver so that the long edge of the hexagon hits the table. Instead of turning on the device, you can simply hit the key with a hammer. The thread will move and the chuck will unscrew.

    In order to remove the cartridge, you need to clamp the hex key in it and start the engine at low speeds until the key hits the table

    Frequent malfunctions of the screwdriver

    Since all modern screwdrivers have a standard device diagram, their faults, as a rule, are typical. The main defects of this tool include:

    • Battery malfunction;
    • Wear of brushes;
    • Broken button;
    • Beating of the cartridge;
    • Lack of response to attempts to turn on or off;
    • Work intermittently.

    You can fix all these breakdowns yourself if you have experience working with measuring and soldering devices. In some cases, you will have to change the nodes completely, since not all parts are sold separately. If repairing a gearbox or motor is too difficult for you, these elements can be completely replaced or taken to a workshop.

    How to disassemble a screwdriver

    The screwdriver is disassembled in the following sequence:

    1. Remove the battery.
    2. Unscrew the screws connecting the two halves of the case.

    The screwdriver body consists of two parts, connected by a rather large number of self-tapping screws. In order to disassemble it, you need to find all the attachment points

  • Take off its top.
  • Take out the contents.
  • Disconnect the button.
  • The screwdriver button is integral with the switching mechanism, which is connected to the motor, therefore, when separating the button from the socket on the body, care must be taken not to break the wires

  • Remove the speed switch.
  • Disconnect the motor, gearbox, adjusting sleeve and chuck.
  • In order to disconnect the screwdriver gearbox from its motor, it is necessary to unscrew the four screws located at the contact point of the two plastic covers

    Button problems

    A malfunction of the start button can lead to the following malfunctions of the screwdriver:

    • Self-propelled gun appears;
    • The device does not turn on;
    • The device is unstable.

    From the button, two wires go to the battery contacts and two to the engine. If there is a transistor, then it is connected with three wires. Make sure the problem is in the button:

    1. Connect the battery. Press the button and measure the voltage at its output with a tester, it should be absent.
    2. Remove the battery and remove the upper motor wire from the button housing.
    3. Connect the motor directly to the battery. To do this, take two wires of the required length and connect them to the battery contacts. Connect the other ends of the wires to the motor housing and to the wire that was inserted into the button. If the engine is running, then the button is faulty.

    Engine repair

    The screwdriver uses a DC motor in a cylindrical housing with magnets. Inside there is an anchor with windings and brushes. To check the motor, disconnect the gearbox and the wires leading to the button, and measure the resistance of the armature winding with a multimeter. The lack of readings of the device indicates an open circuit, and a very low value indicates a short circuit. The collector resistance is measured on the shaft and each plate. It should be zero. Armature faults lead to shutdown during operation, loss of power, sparking and smoke.
