Gasoline with chainsaw oil. How to dilute and why it is done
Chainsaws from different companies are based on a two-stroke internal combustion engine that drives the cutting headset of the tool. To drive the internal combustion engine, the proportions of gasoline and oil for chainsaws are used. Combining gasoline with oil is a mandatory procedure, so if you just bought a tool, then you need to understand the peculiarities of refueling it.
Chainsaw refueling instructions
Knowing the ratio of the preparation of the petrol-oil mixture, you can start refueling it. The refueling instruction is as follows:
- First you need to prepare the mixture. Having combined the two main components, you should mix them thoroughly
- Place the tool on a clean and level surface. Before unscrewing the gas cap, it is necessary to clean or blow off sawdust, dust and dirt
- Tank neck must point up
- Install a small watering can in the neck, then pour fuel
- Control the refueling process, as the volume of the tank is small, so it fills up quickly
- Do not fill to the full maximum, since when the tank cap is closed, the remaining fuel will spill out.
- After the fuel is poured into the tank, immediately add chain lubricant.
- Fuel consumption and chain lubrication are approximately the same, therefore both tanks must be filled at the same time
- After refueling, you can start starting the engine
It is better to start the engine not in the place where the refueling was carried out, but to move to a distance of 2-3 m. The tool is ready for work, and you can start to start it. How to start a chainsaw engine, you can read in this material (link).
Why gasoline is mixed with oil for refueling chainsaws
It is necessary to dilute gasoline with oil in order to avoid the failure of the internal combustion engine. The reason for this is the design features of the lubrication system for two-stroke motors. In the design of such engines there is no chamber for filling engine oil, and if you fill in fuel without lubricant, then the crankshaft, piston, bearings and connecting rods will not receive lubrication. This will significantly reduce the service life of all of the listed parts, therefore, do not fill with clean fuel.
Gasoline and oil for the chainsaw must be poured in the appropriate proportions, which makes it possible to effectively lubricate the rubbing parts. Lack of lubricant or its excess will lead to negative consequences in the form of carbon deposits. In order for the tool to work properly, it is necessary from the first day of operation of the tool to fill it not only with high-quality materials, but also to observe the correct proportions.
For the engine to work properly, the main thing is to fill it with clean fuel without contamination.
Choosing a gasoline mower
Before choosing, you need to decide on the type of lawn, the goals of purchasing a lawn mower, with their additional functions, which may be necessary or may not be useful. The site, the type of vegetation, the frequency of work, the expected result should be carefully analyzed.
Read the instructions carefully before use.
Before starting work, you need to clear the area from foreign objects. Fill the mower tank with only high quality gasoline. It is allowed to operate the unit from the age of 18. Clothes and shoes must be covered.

At work a safe distance of 15m is required. Do not smoke, open the tank cap, refill gasoline. Do not work near flammable liquids or gases.
On the basic safety rules and features of choosing a lawn mower.
Trimmers should only be used for their intended purpose, cannot be used for chopping branches, leveling the ground.
Lawn mowers. Well thought-out equipment for lawn and gardening work, which allows you to not depend on the length of the cable and the source of electricity. It allows you to quickly and efficiently mow young and not very grass, thickets of bushes and weeds, cut down trees and bushes. Although their cost is higher and they are more expensive to maintain, with the right choice and operation, they pay for themselves many times over.
The larger the diameter of the wheels, the easier they move on bumps and large grass. The wider the wheels, the less they damage the lawn. Stronger and more durable wheels with bearings.
Collectors can be soft or hard, the former are easier to store, the latter are easier to wash.
An important condition when choosing a lawn mower is the availability of service centers, which many Chinese manufacturers cannot boast of. Find out more about the most popular petrol-powered lawn mowers here.
Caring for your lawn mower is similar to caring for any other combustion engine unit. Periodic replacement of oil, belts, air filter is required.
Usually, refueling requires high-quality gasoline of the A92 brand and higher, not expired, without contamination. The tank should not get water or dirt, foreign objects.
Worn parts should be replaced, promptly sharpen knives or change cutting parts.
At the end of the day, the bar and gear should be cleared of grass. At the end of the summer season, the lawnmower should be prepared for long-term storage. Drain the fuel mixture from the tank, in order to generate fuel residues, start the engine. Allow the engine to cool, then clean the entire tool. Plastic parts are cleaned with a soft bristle brush and solvent.
How to dilute gasoline with chainsaw oil
Dilute gasoline for a chainsaw
For 1 liter of gasoline, add 30 g of special engine oil. The resulting mixture is poured into a special compartment for fuel.
To dilute gasoline for a chainsaw. It is necessary to consult with specialists before this. It is best to ask those who work in the service center to repair them.
They ate their teeth on this.
And the sellers who advertise them in the supermarket and hang all sorts of noodles on our ears will not tell us anything about the trip.
It was so with me, but not with a saw, but with a scythe. It worked poorly, did not start very well, detonated strongly and did everything to mix gasoline and oil, as the sellers said.
But when I turned to the service center. Said a completely different ratio of fuel parts.
And everything is working fine now.
You need to take gasoline for the saw AI-95 or AI-92 and mix in the ratio with oil. In 1 liter of gasoline 40 g of oil.
How to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw
In order for the chainsaw to serve for a long time and not cause problems with repairs, you need to properly prepare the fuel mixture. Internet forums are rife with questions on this topic. We interviewed experts and compiled a short guide.
To prepare the fuel mixture, use AI-92 or AI-95 gasoline. A lower octane number will not work. Gasoline is necessarily not leaded (otherwise the engine will fail) and not old (octane number can change over time). It is forbidden to use oil for boats and four-stroke engines.
The main issue is proportions. Excess oil will cause carbon deposits on pistons and spark plugs. Excessive gasoline will cause piston seizure and early engine failure. On average, one liter of gasoline is mixed with 20-50 ml of oil. Stihl and Husqvarna, for example, recommend taking 100 ml of oil for 4 liters of gasoline. The specified proportion is optimal for chainsaws up to 1.5 kW. For chainsaws with a power of more than 1.5 kW of the same brands, use a ratio of 1/50 (100 ml of oil per 5 liters of gasoline). Recommendations from Partner and Jonsered: 1/33 ratio (3.3l petrol, 100ml oil). The supersynthetic oil is added at a rate of 100/1. These figures are approximate. Always use the data given in the instructions for your particular chainsaw model. Trust the numbers on the oil labels to a lesser extent.
What to mix? On sale are canisters with graduated marks and two holes. For oil and gasoline. Pour in the ingredients, screw on the lids and stir by tilting the container.
Many people use glass and plastic bottles, baby horns and syringes. Be careful with glass and plastic to avoid static electricity. Make sure that no solid particles or drops of water get into the mixture. Be sure to stir the mixture thoroughly.
Finished fuel cannot be stored for more than 25-30 days, because the oxidation process changes its composition. Engine breakdown caused by overexposed fuel is considered non-warranty. The amount of repairs reaches 80% of the cost of a new chainsaw. After the end of the working season, use up the remaining fuel, stop the engine, remove the remaining fuel mixture.
Remember, your goal is to create a mixture that will ensure smooth engine operation, complete combustion of fuel without the formation of deposits, smoke or scuffing.
What gasoline to pour into the mower
To be honest, what kind of gasoline you pour into your car and at what gas station, I recommend that you pour it into a gasoline mower. Personally, my choice fell on the AI-95 and I buy it at Lukoil. I agree that many of you will begin to argue with me about the high price and low-quality fuel, I will cut you off immediately, where there is gasoline, I buy 100% good.
But this does not mean that if I fill the AI-95 in my trimmer, then the AI-92 does not fit, no. But below 92, I definitely do not recommend pouring into the mower tank. Honestly, I have never poured 98 and 100 gasoline into the mower. If any of you tried, please share your experience.
I note that if the trimmer is new, you just bought it, be sure to look in the passport, which brand of gasoline the manufacturer recommends. Maybe your mower even runs on diesel fuel, just kidding.
What gasoline to pour into the mower. Advice from the experienced
I am glad to welcome you again to my gardening blog. In a personal note, they often began to write words of gratitude on social networks for the post about how to clean up a grassy area in the garden or vegetable garden. Many talked about their personal experiences and shared tips. I listened to many and made a conclusion. Due to the fact that most of you asked me about what kind of gasoline to pour into the mower, what it should be mixed with and in what quantities, I decided to devote a separate post to this.
A little bit for beginners about motors
Those who first purchased a gasoline mower, and I’m talking about the new owners, will surely go online sooner or later for certain questions. What is the ideal fuel for it. I myself remember myself out of inexperience. Fortunately, the Internet is helping today.
- Let me remind you that the trimmer model Impulse BT 5200 is ideal for cleaning a garden with the same mower that I used to mow the grass, because it is first of all lightweight, not whimsical in maintenance, it “eats” almost any gasoline and, of course, is mobile. One thing I want to say is that it is definitely not worth saving on the quality of gasoline for the trimmer.
So, let’s continue. Gasoline mowers, as far as I am concerned, meet with a two-stroke engine and a four-stroke engine. The difference between these engines from each other lies in the number of revolutions made by the engine. If we consider a two-stroke engine, then in one cycle there are two piston cycles, respectively in a four-stroke. Four. Why am I saying this, and all to the fact that the second “eats” a little more, but for your garden and nature in the forehead, the second type of engine is safer.
Fuel mixture: the proportion of oil and gasoline for the chainsaw
The chainsaw engine is the heart of the tool, so it is very important to use a properly prepared fuel mixture.
Chainsaw fuel mixture prepared from two components. Oil and gasoline. Chainsaws are equipped with two-stroke engines, so oil is not added to the lubrication system (like a four-stroke engine), but directly to gasoline. In this case, it is very important to observe the correct proportions of ingredients, of course, in no case try to work on pure gasoline, because in this way you will very quickly “kill” the chain saw.
If we talk about what kind of gasoline to pour into the chainsaw, then it will be optimal to use fuel with an octane number A-95, in this case, fuel savings can turn out to be deplorable. Often European manufacturers indicate that it is possible to use A-90 or A-92 gasoline, but in post-Soviet countries the quality of gasoline is inferior to that of Europe, so in our realities it is better to use higher quality gasoline.
As for the proportions of petrol-oil mixture, then everything is simple: you need to follow the instructions for the tool. All manufacturers of chainsaws indicate the required ratio in the instruction manual or in the passport of the tool, in addition, the proportions for refueling the chainsaw may differ depending on the model of the chain saw. As a rule, the proportion of oil and gasoline to a chainsaw of famous manufacturers is a ratio of 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part of oil for, for example, 40 parts of gasoline. Now arithmetic 1 liter of gasoline = 1000 ml of gasoline, divide by 40 and we get 25ml of oil. If you follow the same steps for the ratio 1:50, then we get 20 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. As for budget chainsaws made in China, the situation is slightly different. The ratio of gasoline to chainsaw oil made in China 1:25, that is, divide 1000 ml of gasoline by 25, we get 40 ml of oil. The thing is that in branded chainsaws, a solid assembly and the distance between pistons and cylinders in the engine is much less than that of Chinese chainsaws, therefore, the required amount of oil differs almost twice.
Use a conventional medical syringe with sufficient volume to measure the correct amount of oil.
Another subtlety. First fill the dry gasoline can with gasoline and then oil. The procedure, on the contrary, is fraught with a low quality fuel mixture, because the oil is more dense, it will stick to the bottom of the canister. What a good mixing there is.
Be sure to prepare the fuel mixture in a canister and pour ready-made special fuel into the gas tank! Never cook or mix it directly in the fuel tank of your chainsaw!
If you figured out the question of how to breed gasoline for a chainsaw, then storage conditions and shelf life of the fuel mixture it is worth saying a few words. It is best and easiest to prepare a petrol-oil mixture for 1 liter of gasoline, it is recommended to do this immediately before working with the tool. Chainsaw fuel tanks have a volume of 0.3 to 1 liter. In the conditions of domestic use, the entire volume of the prepared combustible mixture is rarely used in one session, so the remainder can be saved until the next session. It is necessary to store the fuel mixture in a special canister for gasoline, in a dry, dark place. It is optimal to count that shelf life of the finished mixture will be 7-10 days. The fact is that the oil on the market now is not synthetic, but organic, that is, natural. After 10 days, all lubricating properties are lost, gasoline simply “eats” the oil. Naturally, it is no longer possible to use such fuel, this can cause breakdown and failure of the chainsaw.
At the end of the work, it is necessary to drain the fuel mixture, start the chainsaw, the tool will stall (so that the saw has a dry carburetor) and now you can leave it until the next operation.
Dispose of unsuitable fuel mixture.
